I was so happy to be back I St Louis and extra pleased to have breakfast at the First Watch in Clayton. I had breakfast with my family Wednesday and lunch with friends Thursday. For breakfast the flavors in their pumpkin pancake did not disappoint! I added pecans for a little extra crunch. We also appreciate the turkey and chicken meat options as most of my posse does not eat pork or beef. For lunch I indulged in the velvety yumminess of the butternut squash soup. Nice atmosphere, super friendly staff, and most importantly the food is pretty tasty. I was skeptical about the multi grain pancakes, but they ate really good and don't taste "healthy"...I'm sure you know what I mean... It is a bit on the pricier side, but the quality is worth the extra buck or two. In a nutshell: nice, quick lunch. A decent brunch option. Nice that the coffee carafe and water pitcher are on the table. It makes the service much more efficient. In fact, service was super efficient and really friendly, which included a manager asking about our experience. Food was decent. Egg burrito was tasty, caprese benedict tasted just as one would expect it to. Slightly expensive for what we got (glorified diner food) but I suppose that's a chain restaurant for you. Also, nice touch with fruit on the side, but no one's health is going up with 3 grapes and a cube of pineapple. Could try a little harder on it. read more

Not impressed. To me it seemed like an upscale Denny's. While our food came out relatively quickly, mine wasn't piping hot but more so just warm/room temperature. I got the biscuits & turkey gravy, egg whites & potatoes. If I had gotten a whole plate of those breakfast potatoes I would have been happy. However my biscuits were hard, the turkey gravy had zero flavor - I had to keep adding pepper & hot sauce to give it something. When you have this mindset that you're going to have a plate of hot fluffy biscuits smothered in gravy and you get what I got, you're disappointed. I wish I would have taken pictures of the water glasses they gave us - THEY WERE FILTHY. We asked twice for new glasses and each time the glasses came back filthier. I'm not sure if she took them walked around and brought us back the exact same ones or if every glass looked like a 5 year old with slimy hands had brought them to us. Despite the food & dirty glasses, the service was great - from the hostess, waitress to check out everybody was extremely friendly and kept a smile on their faces even though it was hectic in there! Waitress checked on us often, asked if we wanted our bill split right off the bat and just provided all around great service. But you won't be seeing me at First Watch again. I like that they use the No Wait app so that we had a very quick wait once we got here on a busy Sunday and the food tasted fine mine but my florentine benedict and the potatoes on the side were cold. Considering I watched people who came in after us get their food before us I suspect our food sat around for a bit before being served. The air conditioning vent blowing on top of me while I was eating only helped to continue to chill it faster. My husband was happier with his breakfast tacos. read more

Every time we are in St. Louis, we stop at First Watch for breakfast. It has a great selection of healthy and farm fresh meals on the menu (which is great when you're on the road and need a meal that is more on the healthier side). We also love to try the drinks that they have on special. My favorite was the Day Glow that had a great mix of vegetables that included fresh carrots. The service has always been good, and we will be back next time we are in St. Louis. read more

Eggs Benedict! Gotta love it! I am almost certain that I have ordered the eggs benedict every time I have visited. It is consistently good. Comes with hash browns and fruit. This location has a breakfast bar in the cafe and is a nice alternative to the wait that one often has to endure. The service can be super fast or super slow at the bar, but if you flag down a server, you get to order right away. Food always comes out rather quickly too. The wait staff is always friendly and will give you a to go cup for your beverage, if you ask for it. A pitcher with water and lemons is always brought to the table or available at the bar, so enjoy :) read more

This place isn't bad, nothing special but their food is always good. If I am going for breakfast in Clayton I would choose this place over Half & Half (honestly don't get the hype for this place especially with the lines). They have a lot of healthier options if that is what you are looking for and have everything that you would expect on a breakfast menu. Nothing I have ever eaten has been memorable, but no complaints either. You could do worse than First Watch if you are looking for breakfast in Clayton, but I wouldn't choose to come here if you aren't already in the neighborhood. read more

I visited twice while on a trip to Saint Louis. On my first visit the waitress I had was so helpful and attentive. The second visit the waiter I had was very slow. That's really my only criticism. The food here is consistent. You can really make any changes you want to items on the menu to cater to your taste which I like. They have lots of healthy options and they aren't bland. I always get the triathlete which comes with salsa to flavor it up. The fruit cup that comes with it has some of the standard honey dew and cantaloupe but also has fresh berries. Have been a big fan of First Watch over the years. This is definitely a 3-4 star breakfast place. Service is always quick and friendly, food is tasty, prices are right...no real complaints. However, the times I've had lunch here, they have been underwhelming. I had a salad recently and the dressing was overpowering and chicken was not cooked fresh. Would come back, but due to the disappointing lunch experiences, I'd only return for breakfast/brunch. read more

I had breakfast here last weekend with my partner, his parents, and some of their friends. They were quite busy but we still only waited about 15 minutes to get a table. Service was a little slow, but the waiter himself was fun and friendly. Compared to 40+ minutes at another place we had tried to visit, we were not going to complain about 15 minutes and waiting a bit for the server to finally get to us! I had the pineapple cooler juice drink and the biscuits and gravy meal. I love that their gravy is made out of turkey meat. It still had a nice kick to it, and the fresh-made biscuits were thick and fluffy. The seasoned breakfast potatoes that came with it were really great. Everyone at the table raved about them--even those who aren't huge fans of breakfast potatoes. My partner had the Chickichanga and really enjoyed it. I didn't realize this was a chain restaurant until I went to write this review. It certainly didn't *feel* like we were walking into a chain restaurant, and that is really nice. This location had a pretty homey feel, lots of greens and neutrals. My biggest complaint is that there weren't enough glasses when we sat down. A table for six had three coffee cups and three plastic glasses, set in front of three place settings. The other three were just empty. Perhaps we were overzealous, but we had to ask our server to bring additional water glasses. This is minor, but it's just crazy to me that you'd knowingly seat six people at a table and not have glasses for everyone. Glancing around the restaurant, it looked like most tables were set for fewer than the actual number of seats at them. Maybe they were just running low on glasses, maybe they just assume most people will buy juice or another drink and not use the cups on the table? Silly hang up, I know. read more

This place is full of good stuff. Great staff, very clean establishment, cheap public parking, and quick service. Not to mention the food is yummy. This place is really popular! We came here at 11:30a for some brunch but it was packed and we waited 20 minutes. Be sure to come expecting a short wait at least! The food was definitely worth the wait though. We ordered crepes and I had the chikichanga. The chikichanga and crepes were great! The chikichanga was well-cooked, the potatoes they came with were well-seasoned but not crispy, and it also comes with a side of fresh fruit. The sizes were good and the fillings were delicious. We spent the holiday weekend in St. Louis and we were getting ready to head out of town. This restaurant came as a recommendation to us from a local. It's more of a fru fru place that has all organic, cage free stuff and is a bit pricier than a diner. With that said, the food was very good. My kids had the chocolate chip pancakes and French toast. I had a crepe with turkey and avocado in it and my husband had a hash dish with bacon and onion. Our bill was $37 for 2 adults and 2 kids. The coffee is good. The waiter even gave us to-go cups filled with piping hot coffee for the road. I'd recommend this place if you are looking for something a little nicer than the usual breakfast place. We've been coming to the Clayton location since they first opened. Don't know if they're trying to cut expenses, but the scoop of chicken salad on the open-face chicken salad melt is minuscule--had to have not for chicken among the big pieces of water chestnuts. And when the sandwich first came out, the skimpy cheese on top was cold (how do you melt cheese with cold??). We asked for a fresh sandwich and were told that "chicken salad is always cold." On the other hand, the pancakes are still great. Maybe they just shouldn't do lunch food. read more

The staff at my local one in Clayton are superb - always friendly, always cheerful, and always make sure I'm completely happy with my food and experience. Everything always tastes fresh and hot. They have seasonal specials year-round, which helps prove their dedication to freshness. Love that they leave a coffee pot at my table so I can serve myself at my own leisure. Currently, I'm obsessed with their fresh baked biscuits and pumpkin pancakes. Highly recommend this yummy breakfast place! read more

I kinda wish I had read the reviews before letting my brother choose this place for breakfast. I'm surprised that this place has been open for several years now...a couple months ago was the first time I had ever heard about this place! And it REALLY does look like a bank...a Commerce bank! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who thought so! (My brother thought it looked like a Denny's.) So the only reason why it got three stars instead of two was the coffee. I drank the entire pot. No kidding. It was pretty good. I also was going on two hours of sleep. And I was so wired for the rest of the day. My brother thanks you for giving his sister the carafe, hahaha...and I kinda wish I had asked for a to-go cup...not that I really needed it. It's like midnight right now and I've been up for 19 hours...and I feel like I could do 19 more...do me a favor and send your coffee out to the hospitals. We got there at around 8 AM on a Thursday...and it was...frenetic. Chaotic. Our server was terribly efficient...so efficient the only reason why I remember her name is from the receipt. My coffee came before I even had a chance to open the menu. She wanted to take our orders before I had reviewed all 5 panels of the menu. The check was on the table before I had even gotten through 25% of my breakfast. I bet they do IV coffee back there. I mean, such efficiency isn't bad, but it didn't do much for the atmosphere...it really was a slam, bam, thank you ma'am. And I'm feeling jittery just reading this paragraph back to myself. I ordered the Acapulco Express omelet (Chorizo sausage, avocado, green chilies, onion with melted Cheddar and Monterey Jack, topped with sour cream and served with a side of housemade salsa). Instead of the potatoes and English muffin, I opted for the greens...it came heavily dressed to hide the half wilted greens underneath. My brother got the potatoes and English muffin with his omelet, and they didn't look much better...the potatoes looked like cafeteria potatoes, and the muffin didn't look that toasted and had a slathering of butter on it. The omelet was ok. It was heavy on the onions, light on the chorizo, and smaller than I thought it would be. I really doubt that the salsa is housemade...I thought it was Paco...and I laughed when I read that review that said it was Pace...because I really do agree...it's not housemade, period. The green chilies are from a jar too...and my taste buds aren't up to speed just yet to the different brands, but it was a dollop of green chilies on top of the omelet instead of inside the omelet. I don't know if I got the wrong thing...but it's easily an omelet I can reproduce at home. They do have mint-flavored toothpicks at the register. PS Avocado is spelled wrong on the pop up nutritional facts on their website. Geez. I don't think I'm going to need coffee for the next year and a half. read more

This is a great place to go for healthier breakfast/brunch options. The last few times I've been here, I ordered the elevated egg sandwich and I love it.
