We have been loyal First Watch patrons for more than 25 years, but we had a bad experience on our last visit. We were seated promptly, but were subsequently ignored for 15 minutes. We flagged down the hostess who said she would send our server right over. Five minutes later the server showed up to take our order. When we got our food my order was wrong. I had ordered the pumpkin pancake breakfast which includes two eggs and sausage. What I got was one plain pancake, no eggs, no meat. When I told the server my order was wrong she seemed confused. It was obvious that she didn't know about that meal, even though it was on the menu for several weeks. She finally got the order right and served my meal as the others in my party were finishing theirs. She did comp my meal, but I was very disappointed with the substandard service. read more

I know this is a chain, and there are tons of them around now. But I've always thought of First Watch as good food, reasonable prices and good service. Eh, not so much here in KC, on all three accounts. I ordered the Chorizo omelette and my niece had the eggs meal. Portions were small. Potatoes were burnt, coffee was more like hot tea, very weak and flavorless. And I'm sorry but, serving an omelette with "greens"? No potatoes but there's a salad on my plate? Actually turned out, seeing how they burnt my niece's potatoes. The only reason they warranted a 2 star was the whole grain toast. It was very good. But man cannot survive on bread alone. read more

I love first watch but I am so disappointed. A friend and I came for brunch and the waitress was nice but they barely gave us any food. I got french toast w a side of sausage. They came out w one tiny sausage like an inch long and then proceeded to charge me $4 for it. they gave my friend the smallest serving of eggs. So...I have been eating at first watch for years. The Olathe and College locations always offer prompt service with good quality dining. Not so much for the south Overland Park location. I've eaten there twice in the last month and I am absolutely amazed at the quality of food that they served me both times. They should be ashamed. There won't be a third time. read more

Sunday mornings are probably the busiest times for breakfast/brunch places. I also know from working experience at a place like this how tough it is to provide good friendly service during very very busy times - but this is where great breakfast places really shine and average places really fail. This First Watch location does a terrible job of providing good service during busy times - hosts/hostesses are particularly bad at managing tables. Eggs are generally done right. Potatoes are crispy and not burnt. Breakfast meats also very good. Pancakes are also good but they taste like they are from a mix - granola is better than blueberry. Whole wheat toast is great! Coffee? Not so good - watery. Ambiance - Tables and booths are nice and well spaced. Large windows make the restaurant feel very open and airy. Service - our servers have always been attentive and friendly. I would have given 3 stars but I am taking away 2 stars for their poor table management practices that led to us waiting over 45 minutes for a table on our recent visit. When we checked in, we were told that 4 tables were ahead of us and to expect about a 20 minute wait. After seeing 8 parties being seated ahead of us, we asked for an explanation. We were told that Nowait app users were moving ahead of us. As a frequent user of the app myself, I informed the hostess that the app allowed customers to "get in line" before arriving at the restaurant but NOT intended to allow users to jump ahead of people already in line at the restaurant! Instead of acknowledging her error and apologizing for a discriminatory service, she insisted that we should know better and should download and use the app. I learned from our server that the hostess keeps two wait lists and should have explained and managed the table seating better. I was disappointed that no one from management made an effort to explain and discuss the issue with me. The hostess simply dismissed my concerns. I have had much better experiences at other First Watch locations. Yes, this is a chain and other locations also use the Nowait app - albeit more effectively and more equitably. This location is an average breakfast place with at least one hostess who cannot manage tables well and its management does not seem to care - go elsewhere for breakfast. read more

By far my favorite First Watch location. FREE coffee in the front lobby for your wait, as this location can get busy fast on weekend mornings. Be sure to get here early or late to avoid the crowd. Large, open space with lots of windows and natural light. The back wall is a chalkboard with specials and favorites, which adds color and character to the space. Just off 151st street and Metcalf, also easily accessible from 69 Highway and 151st exit. One word: yum! Everything I've tried here has been amazing. You get a lot of food so the price is on point. Personal favorite: their pancake the size of my face, or the bacado (bacon + avocado) omelette. Fresh pressed juice is also a fave. The coffee they offer at the table is not free, but the price is minimal and you get the entire pot plus refills, and free creamers at the table. Definitely the only place I will skip making breakfast myself to eat out. read more

I feel like first watch has always been a staple for good breakfast/lunch in Kansas City. I have been to a few of their other locations, but tried this one while back in KC visiting my parents. Although this location is a bit smaller than some of the others, it is still just as good. I went there twice during my visit, both for lunch. The first time I ordered the Power Wrap, and the second time got their Baja Turkey Burger. Both were very, very tasty. I really like to come to this place for lunch, because they actually have a very good variety of healthy foods and sides. Both times we ate here, was around 11:30 am during the work week, so they weren't particularly busy, but I imagine this place gets packed on the weekends. The service while we were there was FANTASTIC. The staff are SO courteous and friendly. One time, the woman did accidentally drop the tray while serving drinks and dropped water on the floor. It didn't land on any of us or the table, but she was good at turning it into a joke and making sure we were okay/taken care of. The building itself is very open, airy, and full of natural sunlight. Wonderful breakfast, wonderful company! My wife and I had a morning breakfast date, without kids... Everyone working was warm and welcoming. The service was great! We sat in open seating at the bar table...and had the opportunity to meet Bill, who is affiliated with FirstWatch. He made some recommendations and explained how they would love to cook the foods we want, the way we wanted...and they did! The steak hash was delicious with the steak cooked perfectly tender. The Rusitca frittata was fantastic also. All of the food was fresh, clean, and well cooked/seasoned. The coffee was fresh and hot. And the juices freshly squeezed! I've been to every First Watch location in Johnson County and each location tastes the same - absolutely fantastic. You have to order orange juice. I don't know if it is freshly-squeezed or not, but they add a splash of goodness to them. Also, their Sensational Skillet is the best! read more

Meh. My first time here. Ordered the breakfast sandwich. The potatoes were extremely salty. The breakfast sandwich had cold bread, barely warm egg, cold turkey sausage, unmelted cheese. My friend ordered the blueberry pancake. The pancake came out with the blueberries cooked in the batter and was nothing to crow about. If you want to have a nice meal experience go to the one across from Costco. The blueberry pancakes were served hot with fresh blueberries piled on the top over there. read more

I love this chain. First watch has good food and other locations I've eaten at have great service. This location is poorly managed, and has been for awhile. Long waits, and when we went there today (on a holiday so I knew they would be busy) we were told they were short staffed and it would be a long wait to receive our orders. During our 45 minute wait for our food to arrive, soft drinks, coffee, and water were not refilled at our table. We had to ask multiple times for refills. When our food finally arrived my eggs were cold. I wasn't about to send them back though. Another persons potatoes were burned black. My husband said he had to practically beg someone to cash us out at the register. Corporate needs to take a hard look at this location. It's in an area where it has the potential to be one of your most profitable locations, but I don't see how it can be so when you've got people leaving their tables due to slow service. And yes, I saw 2 large parties get up and leave after ordering but before the food arrived. After one next to us left our server stated she had shared the troubles they were having. At one point during our wait for our food, I overheard one server tell another that they weren't seating anyone else until they got caught up. I place blame on management. If you've got employees not doing their jobs well, that's on the manager. If the manager is hiring low quality help, again, that's on the manager. Since I know there are well managed locations close to me, I will simply go to them. But there are too many good, well-run restaurants in southern Johnson County to eat at. I doubt I'll return to this location for a long time. read more

Excellent food and service and reasonable prices except the cost of a la carte eggs. $1.59/scrambled egg seems a bit excessive... Our family loves this place and it is always busy on the weekends so many others do as well. My one tip would be to turn down the heater. Oh my, it was like 80+ degrees in there this past Sunday morning. I can't imagine that's comfortable for guests or the staff. Other than that we are big fans! read more

Traveling through KC and visited this new location. It has a cheerful and bright decor, space to move around in the restaurant - not crammed like some diners - and the food was good and fresh. This location is REALLY REALLY good and consistent during the weekdays. On the weekends they are very busy and not that good. The food is mediocre on the weekends, I don't know if it's because they are rushing everything or what. But the eggs are always over cooked the 'million dollar bacon' is always WAY over cooked no matter how many times you ask them to remake it less "burnt" lol. During the weekdays We have no issues at all and will continue to come during the weekdays. Weekends if we want First Watch we will go to the location on Blue Valley Parkway and 119th they are better on the weekends just further away from us. Staff is very friendly though at both locations never really had an issue ever with servers or managers at either of these locations. read more

When I think of Hashes I think of more finley chopped potatoes and meat all mashed up together. Their definition was just some potatoes with meat on top. My family and I have been enjoying First Watch in the Johnson County area for years. In terms of breakfast locations I have always personally recommended this restaurant to others. After today's experience I must admit that I will be much more reluctant in providing such a glowing recommendation. At ten thirty on a Saturday morning, a twenty minute wait is not unreasonable. Despite the cramped atmosphere of this specific location, my wife and I were more than willing to wait for the quality we have come to know and appreciate. Once we were seated we were able to breathe a sigh of relief and quickly ordered our meals. Upon receiving our food, it was evident that very little care was taken in preparation. The bacon atop my wife's scramble was more carbon than meat, and the eggshells did very little to complement my meal. Had the server taken the initiative to even look at the food prior to delivering such a product to the table, or had the manager taken the time to inquire about our meal, the experience could have been very different. Unfortunately, the only positive aspect of today's experience was leaving the building in agreement that we would not return again. read more
