We both got swamp soup and I'm pretty obsessed with it now.yes, it looks like the dregs of a swamp but the way the sausage, kale, and black eyed peas combined was just delicious and I hate kale. But you call something " swamp soup" I just gotta try it. My meal was pretty good. The mahi mahi was a bit dry, but everything else? Thumbs up. Five stars for the employees and service. The food was about a 2 out of 5. I had the Seafood Trio Tavares. It was rather bland and did not taste like it was freshly made. I am from Maryland and that is NOT a Maryland crab cake. It's not even close. If the crab meat started as lump, it was broken down to tiny thin stranded-like pieces. No vegetables go in a Maryland crab cake. This was the worst crab cake I have ever had, unfortunately, and I would recommend to avoid. My wife had the Clams over Linguini with Scampi Sauce and she enjoyed her dish. I tasted it and it was better than my dish. Once seated the manager (owner?) and the Chef came to our table to welcome us and explained about them having a large group. Explaining our food may take time. Apologizing in advance that there may be a delay, but assuring us our orders would arrive as quickly as possible. We understood and were not concerned if there was a delay, to our pleasant surprise our food came out timely. It has been a few years since we have been here, and ownership has changed since then. It was a bit cool so we ate at an inside table. The meal was great. I started with a bowl of their intriguing swamp soup. It was tasty and just a touch spicy, but barely noticeable. The main course was fried oysters with Cole slaw and fried. It was very good. What a great find! We went to a theater show about 15 minutes away got a recommendation for Fish Camp. Service was fantastic and the food was great. Very generous portions. Every day there's a special meal and on Saturday it was shrimp with 3 (!) sides. You could get the shrimp friend, blacked, grilled or boiled (peel and eat). Two of us got the shrimp and it was so good. I think about a dozen on each plate. I got grouper tacos, which were also on point. A couple of beers on tap, nice looking cocktail choices. It's right on Lake Eustis so there are nice views of the lake from all the tables. My mom lives about 45 minutes away, but we all agreed it's worth a drive down just to eat there again. We found the Fish Camp by searching for restaurants in the area and we are happy to have found such a unique place on the water for a lunch today. Paulo was our server/bartender and was very friendly, informative and efficient. We ordered a cup of the Swamp Soup as an appetizer and shared the special of the day which was mahi mahi. We chose to have the mahi mahi blackened. With the meal, three side choices came with it. Lots of choices for sides, but we chose a side salad (that was super fresh), hush puppies and sweet tots. We love FishCamp. Location, food and service are excellent. The food never disappoints. The new owners are friendly and take time to visit with you. One little thing that we did not know on wing night until we got our check was that they now charge for the sauce on your wings. This was not how it was and we think if you are having wings the sauce should not be an extra charge. We have never been charged for sauce anywhere. We will be back but maybe the sauce could be included. We love our wing night. read more

I stopped in for dinner at Fish Camp on Lake Eustis in Tavares, FL. It was my first visit, and it had been on my list for a while. I started with Fried Gator bites and a Crab Cake made with Maryland Blue Crab. For my entrée, I chose Soft Shell Crab--one of my favorites this time of year--with hush puppies and coleslaw on the side. The atmosphere was exactly what you'd expect from a lakeside seafood restaurant and bar. The service was exceptional and attentive, and the food arrived promptly and was delicious. We were seated quickly , the food was hit and tasty. Service was just right. We sat outside and that night , no bug problems at all.

The staff is very friendly and the location is great, especially seeing I live in the neighborhood right behind the restaurant. But... I have gone 3 times and had 3 different dishes and none of them were impressive. I eat the Shrimp and Grits at every restaurant I go to for comparison, the shrimp were overcooked, the grits had no flavor and were cold and the sauce was nothing more than a hot sauce sprinkled on top. (Not a huge fried foods fan, totally my fault) I absolutely loved the clam chowder! Best I've ever had, and I'm a flavor snob. I also loved the flavor Powerhouse of the blue crab cake, I had to close my eyes and tilt my head back for that lol. My grits were okay, I would have liked more spice and cheese. I got the Trio, loved my lightly breaded haddock, cooked perfectly, and was very well seasoned. The shrimp was okay. Again, I'm not a fan of fried food, so those would be better grilled. I remember first coming here when there was a lobster grabbing machine and swamp soup was served up front during lunch. Today was my first day back since it has been under new management. Lunch started out with me asking if they had house bloody Mary's anymore since they wasn't on the new menu. Waitresses reply was we have never had them and I worked here for 9 years.. nice attitude!! On our way home from the Mt. Dora Art Festival, we stopped in for a quick lunch. It was a pretty day so we thought about sitting outside - until we heard the caterwauling of the hired singer on the deck, and went inside instead. They were perfectly cooked and very flavorful. For my lunch I had the blackened grouper Reuben, and my friend had the grilled fish sandwich. Both of these were just okay. Even though my fish was blackened, it had almost no flavor. The coleslaw on top definitely overpowered the fish. My friend had the same lack of flavor issue with her grilled fish too. Another couple and my wife and I were boating on a Friday afternoon and decided to cruise over to this restaurant to try the Friday special of a pound of cod with fries and Coleslaw. We also ordered a side salad because we were going to split the entree and we didn't need the salad because the coleslaw bowl was twice the size I usually get with a fish fry in most restaurants. The fish was lightly battered and cooked perfectly and the portion, as you can see in the photo was more than enough for the two of us. I've ridden by this joint any number of times on the way to visit Mommy Dearest over the years. It has been any number of different kinds of restaurants, this, obviously, being its latest iteration. So what does she order? A hamburger, cooked medium well; go figure! Queen Bee ordered blackened mahi-mahi tacos with side of Brussels sprouts. I, meantime, am taking advantage of AUCE Taco Tuesday. All the tacos you can eat for $13.99; pretty reasonable for a middle aged fat guy with an appetite such as mine. I tried a taste of the mahi-mahi tacos; eh. Fish tasted old and smelt like, well: fish. She didn't like her Brussels sprouts either. Tasted like lukewarm cabbage to me. Meh! At least they brought out a nice little basket of homemade tortilla chips and salsa. MD took those home with half her meat puck. I wound up with six fried gator tacos. Them puppies were yumm-o! Gator didn't taste old or freezer burnt like that godawful old mahi-mahi taco. Also a pitcher of pomegranate 'ritas for Queen Bee and myself; not a horribly bad way to whet the old whistle. I'll tell you, though: I'm glad we didn't eat indoors. My last note about the place pretty much tells why I only give three stars. I went inside to use the restroom before we left. I truly felt nauseated as I walked through the dining area, especially up the ramp and toward the back. The place reeked of old veggie oil and grease, and I mean reeked! Some of the chairs and banquettes in the rear dining rooms were ripped and falling apart, too. All kinds of random pictures and "artwork" on the dingy walls along with too-dim lighting. Then there was the tight space that contained the men's room. I don't think it was well looked after; Queen Bee says ladies room was clean though. Finally, the outside path to the patio, much as the patio itself, is a wood deck. There are quite a few boards back there that are rotting away and getting spongy. I'd strongly suggest to the ownership that they take care of that before someone falls over or worse. Put some of that insurance money from the tornado and the runaway car into cleaning and fixing all the neglect. Service was certainly good and the food all in all was fair enough. However, certainly not a memorable first visit here, and certainly not a worthwhile revisit either. Bleh! read more

The Crowd was there & it was a popular place. , their Onion Rings drew a crowd on there own. 2nd Owner raised the prices & portions much smaller & those onion rings went away . Staff changed . I met a few girls out that use to work there. Said they couldn't make a living there . Too slow of business. Now a 3rd. Owner . The place needs brighten up , change the lights out. Paint .. We had such a fun family lunch today on the waterfront! Our server was Makenna we could not have had a better, more competent and sweet server. We were greeted warmly as we have been every time we've been here. There seems to be live music most Saturdays and today was Shrimp Saturday. We had a pitcher of the Mango and Prickly Pear Margaritas (both very good but the Prickly Pear was unbelievable), the Tempura Fried Pickles, dozen raw oysters, Fried Shrimp basket, Smash-burger & Fries... all delicious! I hear their Crab Stuffed Flounder is the best in town so we will look forward to returning very soon maybe in our boat since there is boat parking! read more
