I was preparing for it to be tough to get a reservation on a Sunday afternoon, but there was a lot of availability and the restaurant wasn't full. The decor is sooo nice at this location and the food is just as good. I ordered the summer corn and tomato salad as well as the fish with Thai herbs and a side of rice. I also love the crab curry, but I didn't want something too spicy for lunch. So pro tip: if you can't get a reservation for the Manhattan location, then try Williamsburg! read more

I'm normally not a huge Thai food person but I absolutely love Fish Cheeks. My fav was definitely the crab fried rice! Everything was very well seasoned and the flavors were balanced. First time dining here, and I'd give the overall experience 3.5 stars. The food was good overall, and if it's available, definitely order the raw marinated crab, it's absolutely worth it. Wow. Totally unexpected. Went here on the recommendation of my daughter for her birthday. Mind you, I am not a big seafood eater, but it wasn't my birthday either... touché! This place did not disappoint on any level. The space is cozy, bright, and welcoming. We were seated immediately and went straight to the drinks. Phenomenal. We got the Lucky Ducky and the Punch Drunk Love--10s across the board! For starters, we got a dozen oysters. Very fresh, and that green sauce was outstanding. We also got two orders of the Zabb Wings. Niccce. The spice and citrus combo with the dry rub was excellent. We also had the squid ink calamari... deeelicious. Definitely a solid thai spot with good food that id come back again to! Fav was def the zabb wings! It's sweet and tangy almost has a kumquat hint to it! There's also a small kick to it, but bearable with some water. Apparently the seasoning is so good that they sell it as a store product. Some of the chicken wasn't fully cooked all the way; it was a bit pink in 2 of the pieces, but still my fav dish!! Next fav and a must order is the steamed branzino!!! Yum yum yum. Everything we ate. We did the menu à la carte. The Crab Curry sauce itself was too spicy for me, but the crab itself was delightful and well seasoned, really good and I was able to balance out the spice with rice. We also enjoyed the Basil Manila Clams (devoured too quickly for photos) and the Branzino which were both very well seasoned and not super spicy. The Morning Glory side dish was a little spicy, but well seasoned. Crisp veggies not overcooked. We had the Cheeky Tiki and the Punch Drunk Love, both very unique and complex. The NYC location has been on my radar for some time now but I knew I was going to be in the Williamsburg area so I made a 5pm dinner reservation for two on a Saturday here. So glad I did! I loved the interior so much; it give the best ambiance. Our waitress was really nice and helped break down the menu for us. We decided to have the Selection number 2, that feeds two. For the starter, we got the Somtum Corn salad and Zabb Wings. The corn salad was fresh and spicy and the wings was fried to perfection.. and the seasoning was delicious. I was blown away by Fish Cheeks. It's been on my list for quite some time and I'm so happy i was able to snag an early dinner reservation. It's such a cute location and the service was pretty good. On resy, it says you have about 2 hours for the reservation but i never felt rushed during my dinner. Now the food?! SENSATIONAL. This was my favorite dish of the night - the flavor and texture of the fried trout combined with the Thai chili and other spices/salad ingredients created a unique sweet/savory/spicy flavor that was incredible. This is definitely a treat and highlight everytime I visit and the food is consistent across multiple locations, I highly recommend making a reservation as it gets busy and it's recommended you share dishes family-style so you can try many different entrees! The must get dish is the Steamed Fish with Thai Herbs, flavorful and tender and the debone the fish for you which is so nice and the broth is very comforting. I appreciate the tables are spaced out so you are not on top of each other. I imagine when it is busy busy this can be a problem. We were seated quickly because of our reservation. I've had Fish Cheeks bookmarked for quite some time, and being that we were only about seven minutes away, we decided to finally give it a try. On a Friday night with no reservations available online, I fully expected it to be rough--but we went for it anyway. The moment we walked in, we were warmly greeted by the hostess, who let us know they had one table for two available for an hour. We jumped at the opportunity. Once seated, we were gifted shrimp toast with a dip so delicious I honestly wished I could take a bottle home. The menu is extensive, but it happened to be Restaurant Week, and they were offering a three-course prix fixe for $60. Starter, entrée, and dessert--with all the heavy-hitter favorites included--an absolute no-brainer. For starters, we ordered the raw marinated crabs and the Zab Zab wings. The crabs packed a serious punch--spicy, bold, and incredibly refreshing, the kind of dish that leaves you wanting more. The wings were perfectly fried, dusted in seasoning, and insanely flavorful. I also have to point out that for a tasting menu, the portion sizes were shockingly generous--pretty damn impressive. For entrées, we chose the branzino, the crispy pork, and added the crab fried rice. The rice came out first and let me tell you--this is an absolute must-try. Light, perfectly cooked, and loaded with fresh lumps of crab meat, it was pure perfection. I genuinely couldn't stop eating it. The branzino was soft and buttery, paired with a sauce that elevated the dish beautifully. And the crispy pork? Hands down the best I've ever had. We made a reservation a month in advance and the prime times were already booked. The entire staff was very attentive and we were given water and menus very quickly. Every time a dish came we were told what it was a quick summary on the ingredients, something I very much appreciated. Chips with jam(?): Sounds really weird but this little free appetizer was delicious. Pandan Lemongrass Ice Tea: It sounded really interesting and it tasted even more so. The lemongrass flavor was really strong and set up the flavor profile for the rest of the night. Grilled Pork Cheeks: Very tender and flavorful. The sauce has a little kick to it but the pork pieces were good enough on their own. Zabb Wings: Comes with 4 full wings, medium sized, spicy. A must get. They came out piping hot and with wipes for your fingers. Coconut Crab Curry: Very strong coconut flavor with clumps of crab meat. I have very low spice tolerance but with jasmine rice helped. It was one of those dishes where it was a tad too spicy for me but I didn't want to stop eating it. Beef Kaprow: Also accompanied by a bowl of jasmine rice and a fried duck egg. This was a bit salty and spicy, but again tempered by the neutral jasmine rice. Crab Aob Woonsen: Probably my favorite of the three main dishes (because it wasn't spicy) but a tad on the sweet side. Also has clumps of crab meat in it. Pandan Ice cream over sticky rice: Our favorite item of the night, and it wasn't even on the menu. We couldnt finish any of the main dishes but we asked the waiter if they had any dessert and this is the only dessert they serve. We love anything pandan so we were intrigued. The sticky rice was warm and sweet and slightly melted the pandan ice cream which made the dessert even creamier. Disclaimer I'm not a huge fan of Thai curry mainly because I prefer coconut milk as a sweetener than in my savory dishes. I will say if you like Thai curry the crab coconut curry was spicy good and crab cooked nicely. I did love the crab fried rice, it was perfectly done. The Zabb wings were tasty as well and had a spicy kick. (Triple check for strays of fur) I do prefer a crisper look however. Im a spicy lover and there is an overwhelming amount of spicy on the menu, beware if your tolerance is not up to par. The Thai tea was okay and typical. I prefer it to have a slightly sweeter note. One of my top 5 restaurants in NYC! The steamed branzino was INSANE. So soft, so light and it comes in the tastiest broth. We ate the whole thing clean and its the best branzino ive ever had. In general, many items on the menu lean spicy--even the morning glory vegetable side had noticeable heat. My friends shared the fried whole fluke, which is one of their signature dishes. It's been said that when you don't get what you want, it may just be a redirection to something better. That definitely rang true in this case. This dish is AMAZING. Worth coming back for alone. We tried the noted "fan favorite" crab curry, which was interesting. I've never had crab in a Thai curry so it was nice to try. It was deceptively filling. A bit on the spicy side for me (I can take a bit of spice), so if you're slightly sensitive, I would recommend getting more rice or another neutral dish to balance this one. There aren't any other veggies that come with the curry so it's crab + sauce, so maybe that's why the spice hit me harder than the usual curry. Also had the sautéed cabbage which was delicious. After ordering, we were first given some complimentary shrimp chips with a savory Thai dip that was really fun to try. Shrimp in 3 crab sauce - This was a party in my mouth. Tangy, acidic, salty, spicy, fresh garlic slices, fresh mint, fresh chilis, and raw marinated shrimp. Strong and refreshing flavors. The shrimp was the perfect vehicle for this sauce, and the shrimp had good texture. There is said to be bitter melon but I couldn't taste it. These wings were so skillfully prepared. Steamed fish with Thai herbs - This was my favorite dish of the night. The branzino was steamed perfectly and so tender. There are bones, but it was worth it. The sauce was sour with some sweetness to balance it out with very fresh aromatic herbs taking the forefront. The sauce with the herbs reminds me of the Vietnamese sour soup with the same type of herbs. Very similar flavor profile, but the sauce in this dish is brighter to pair perfectly with the fish. Very lime forward, bright and zingy. I loved the soft cabbage on the bottom that soaked in all of this perfect flavorful sauce. Coconut crab curry - I didn't like this dish. I wasn't a fan of the curry sauce. The flavor profile just wasn't to my liking. There was also a hint of bitterness in the curry that I couldn't figure out. I also found the sauce to be very coconut cream forward, which isn't for me. The crabmeat was plentiful. Pakboong fai dang (aka stir-fried morning glory) - I love morning glory, but for being "wok fried" I found this to be a weak dish flavor-wise, but it serves its purpose as a side dish. I didn't get any wok fried flavor, nor did I get any garlicky flavors, it was mostly one note of just salt and some soybean. I much prefer my mom's stir-fried morning glory. There was some hits and some misses for me with the food but the whole dining experience and ambiance pushed the overall rating to a 5. There are 2 fish cheeks locations but we decided to visit this location as we were staying in Brooklyn. I believe this is a smaller location, but if you make a reservation, you should be all set. We ordered the chicken wings, duck curry, and crispy rice salad. My favorite dish was hands down the chicken wings! The wings could have been a bit more juicy in my opinion but the seasoning was delicious. The duck curry was good, but I would probably opt to try a different main dish next time. As for the crispy rice salad, I don't think I was quite prepared for the format of it. You eat it similarly to lettuce wraps, and I found the rice to be a bit too crunchy in contrast to everything else. I also felt like the mint and other flavors were more powerful than I had hoped. Overall, I would highly recommend the chicken wings here, but as a comprehensive Thai spot, I'm not sure if this would be at the top of my list. Tried the Williamsburg location exclusive food and drinks while here, and similar to the Manhattan location the food is delicious and the drinks are good. Oysters were okay, I liked the sauce that went with it but I much prefer classic raw oysters with standard accompaniments. My spice tolerance must be failing me lately, because the raw spicy marinated crab was so spicy. It was really delicious, but very hot. Reminded me a bit of the Korean soy marinated crab but with a fishier, more sour and spicy taste. Tom Yum noodle soup was delicious, great flavors, wide variety of seafood and meats, everything tasted great as expected. Service was great, glad to have a really good Thai restaurant here in Williamsburg (beyond cheaper options like Noods N Chill). read more

I came here after work on a hunch just to try it out since I've heard so much about it. It's definitely small. They said make a resy but I just showed up around 5 and still had to wait as I was solo. I got seated pretty quickly at the bar. I tried to zabb wings and crab fried rice. I was hesitant with the wings bc I don't like spicy food but I was able to handle the kick with plenty of water lol. Definitely flavorful and they give you a small bowl for your chicken bones lol. The crab fried rice was my favorite though pricey. There's was an abundance of crab meat in big pieces all throughout the rice so definitely worth it. I had enough to take as leftovers. The bar stuff was very attentive. This is where you enjoy a Thai food experience. Mid sized restaurant with an incredible decor. Party of 4, we were sat at a table with a banquette and a three fish lamp behind us ( my fav). I ordered a bottle of Muscadet that pair well with dinner. The unsweetened ice tea was getting good reviews. Dinner: whole branzino, grilled mussels skewers with crispy shallots, chilled corn salad, chicken wings, shell on prawns in curry sauce and fried trout. We loved everything but that trout. It was fried hard and over garnished. The service is amazing. Dirty plates removed in a timely fashion, removing dishes you haven't touch to prep for take home, and patience for questions. I feel I've never had a bad Thai meal and this place did not ruin my streak. Everything here was amazing. I went with a party of 4 and we shared a bunch of dishes. We started with the shrimp in 3 crab sauce which is akin to ceviche, very good! We then shared the whole fried fish, crab fried rice, prawn karee and sautéed cabbage. Fish Cheeks finally opened in Williamsburg so of course I had to try! Came on a weekday with a party of four (7pm reservation). The server greeted us warmly and started us off with complimentary shrimp chips and dipping sauce; the chips and sauce went perfectly together. Appetizers: We ordered a dozen oysters, which came topped with fried shallots and sauce. The oysters were on the smaller side (which they're known for), but the sauce and crunch of the shallots made them really enjoyable. The Zabb wings were a standout. Crispy with a lime dry rub that was super flavorful. The grilled pork cheeks were on the drier side though; I've had them at the Manhattan location and they were juicier and more tender there. The Somtum corn salad had corn, cherry tomatoes, and string beans with lime and fish sauce. Flavor wise it worked, but the string beans were a little too raw for me. Entree: The Pakboong Fai Dang (fried morning glory with garlic) was delicious; you could really taste the garlic infused into the veggies. My favorite dish was definitely the crab fried rice, big portion, loaded with crab meat, and perfect for sharing. We also tried the Mama Tom Yum Soup with ramen noodles, crispy pork, shrimp, squid, and mussels. Personally, I wouldn't order it again, it leaned way too sour for my taste. The steamed fish with Thai herbs (whole branzino) had great texture, the fish melted in your mouth, but the lime overpowered the dish so much that you couldn't really taste the fish itself. For desserts, I got the Mango Sticky Rice. The mango sticky rice was delicious! The mango was fresh and sweet, and it paired perfectly with the warm, chewy sticky rice. A simple but perfect way to end the meal! For drinks, I got the pandan lemongrass iced tea. Refreshing with a minty note, but it honestly reminded me of Froot Loops cereal. The space is big, clean, and the staff were really nice. Overall, it's a solid addition to Williamsburg and I'd definitely come back, but if I'm craving Fish Cheeks, I think I still prefer the SoHo location. read more

Always a solid restaurant and everything was great . I've been to the city location but this was my first visit to the Brooklyn location . My favorite drink was the pandan drink with clarified milk. We also tried the mango and lychee drinks . Didn't care for the zabb wings but loved all the other appetizers which included the shrimp in 3 crab sauce , the mussels gorlae, crispy rice salad and pork, and the Manila clams . All dishes delivered and we would definitely order all again. For the mains we ordered the choo chee scallops , the crab curry , the crab fried rice , and the steamed fish with Thai herbs . The crab curry didn't have a lot of crab but the curry was great. The steamed branzino remains one of the best dishes there and it has almost zero bones ( they de-bone it ). Awesome! I had the tofu pad prik khing (came with rice) and pakboong. The tofu was intensely spicy and flavorful, with aromatic red curry paste and delicious fried tofu. The tofu was still a bit airy with a well browned exterior, which was great for carrying the curry. The morning glory was light and savory, with a simple but flavorful broth. These came in at around $45 with taxes, which is a tad pricey but felt like a reasonably heavy meal. read more

Fish Cheeks is simply a welcome addition to the delicious restaurants in the Williamsburg area. I have been able to come a few times for lunch which has been quite easy to grab a reservation for. Between the friendly and welcoming service to the bright and colorful decor the vibes of this restaurant is just perfect. My favorites here are the grilled pork cheeks, crab fried rice, prawn karee, and the sautéed cabbage. Honorable mentions are the wings, shrimp in 3 crab sauce, as well as the duck curry. They also have one of the better Thai iced tea I've tried. I can't wait to come back to try the other dishes. read more
