The seating is fcfs so if you arrive right after opening, expect to stand in line for 30-40 mins. I wasn't a big fan of this set up so it's definitely all about timing and when people finish their food. The menu is straight forward and pretty easy to understand. I ordered the Estilo Baja and the De Coco, both had similar toppings and had a mild spice. The De Coco had a strong good coconut flavor that tasted like coconut oil so keep that in mind if you're not a big of that. The Estilo Baja was solid, the crunchiness of the fish was good and wasn't soggy. Overall a solid spot but I would prefer Oscar's battered fish taco if I wanted a simple fish taco, but Fish Guts is still good!

We went on a Saturday right around when they opened at noon and there was already a line waiting out the door. They are dine in only, and there is limited seating. Since we were a group of 6, it took us ~30 minutes before we were seated together. We were bummed that their smoked fish dip wasn't available, but we loved all the tacos! We tried the Estilo Baja and the De Coco, and both were fresh with a satisfying crunch and a chipotle-forward flavor. The swordfish was also delicious, with a well-seasoned peppery flavor. I'd recommend getting there earlier in the day as their they seem to close once they run out of ingredients. Their sign lists opening hours but doesn't include a closing time, and my friend mentioned she arrived once around 4pm on a previous visit and they were already closed.

Amazing tacos in the San Diego area! This was our first stop while visiting SD and it was a great start to the trip. First of all, the place is quite small but worth the wait if you have the time. It's intimate but the tacos come out relatively fast. They all come with 2 tacos and my husband and I ordered 2 fish and 1 shrimp plate and it was plenty. The al pastor margarita was also good and sweet. The fish tacos are all filled to the top with meat and slaw, all of which are perfectly seasoned. The tacos are also especially good and actually hold together. Great stop in the San Diego area!

Came here a few minutes before opening and there was still a line! Parking can be tricky because you only have the option for street parking. Once we were seated though, our orders were taken fairly quickly considering there was only one person working! We ordered everything on the menu basically, except dessert. The smoked fish was not available that day, but we got to try all the tacos, and we got seconds on the coconut shrimp. The fish n chips was brilliantly reinterpreted with the potato salad, the coconut shrimp was delightfully crispy and coconutty, and the swordfish was also good due to the yummy slaw. I had to ask twice for hot sauce though because it didn't have the heat I needed, but with it, it was superb! Would come back - though earlier next time to beat the line. One wish: (I wish they'd hire more people.) She was extremely professional despite the fact that she was the waitress seating people, taking orders, bartending, clearing dishes and tables, and being the cashier too! For a place doing SO well, I hope the owners would consider hiring more staff.

This place doesn't have any take home containers so you can't order to go or take home anything. I wanted to try their smoked fish dip but knew I wouldn't be able to finish it on my own but I was told they don't have anything to give you leftovers in. I don't think I have ever been to a restaurant that doesn't have any take home containers The de Espada tacos were good but it's annoying you have to sit and eat there. For lunch, I like to grab and go. It was pretty crowded at noon on a Wednesday too. It was good but I probably won't come back

Love this place! Fresh fish and flavorful tacos!!!! I'm so impressed and not even mad that one can't mix and match because I want to try everything here! Small establishment but they make you feel at home, get you seated as quickly as they can and server your food hot and fresh. These are also some of the best fish tacos in San Diego. Can't wait to be back!!

First time here, came here while visiting San Diego. We tried the Baja fish tacos, shrimp tacos and fish and chips. We also tried a Michelada and a few of the different margaritas. The service was great and the restaurant was clean but small. You sit bar style. I recommend giving this place a try.

The best fish tacos in San Diego, cross into Baja without having to leave California. Any options of the fish, shrimp and marlin tacos are delicious, but my favorite would be there rockfish tacos . Each order comes with two tacos and served with the freshest and most delicious tortillas and slaw to accompany your protein.

Fish Guts in Barrio Logan is the kind of place that proves you don't need a fancy setup to serve outstanding food and drinks. The space itself is pretty simple, but what comes out of the kitchen absolutely delivers. On a recent Friday evening my partner and I grabbed seats at the bar and shared a few different tacos: the De Espada (swordfish), De Coco (shrimp), and the Estilo Baja fish taco. Each one was excellent in its own way. The swordfish taco in particular stood out, but honestly all three were fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. We were served by a friendly young waiter whose name I unfortunately didn't catch. He mentioned he grew up in the neighborhood and was genuinely warm, attentive, and outgoing. Service like that always makes the experience feel more personal. For drinks, I had the Pepino Santo, which I highly recommend. It was refreshing and perfectly balanced. My partner tried the Smokey Mango and enjoyed that one just as much. If you're used to grabbing tacos across the border in Tijuana, the prices here might cause a little sticker shock at first. But for San Diego, and especially for tacos of this quality, the pricing really isn't surprising. One small tip: if it's a chilly evening like it was when we visited, you may want to sit inside away from the open windows or bring a jacket. Great tacos, great drinks, and a relaxed neighborhood vibe. We'll definitely be back.

Food ran out so they closed the restaurant hours early on a Saturday!!

This place (Fish Guts) was recommended to try by my cousin. I went to the restaurant today (sat 8/29/26) @ about 4:30pm & they were closed!. the place is supposed to be open until 6:00pm on saturdays & a sign on the door said *Sorry we are sold out*. I have been to thousands of restaurants & never had one close hours early because they ran out of food. I have never heard of that crazyness so I will never go back to this place seeing I wasted my time making the trip. A restaurant should NEVER run out of food & have to close because of that reason. Anyone who thinks about going to this place better call ahead to make sure they are open & haven't closed early because *FOOD RAN OUT**

Stopped by Fish Guts and was seriously impressed. Their crispy fish tacos are legit -- perfectly fried with great crunch and tons of flavor in every bite. Everything tasted fresh, well-seasoned, and thoughtfully put together. Service was really good too -- friendly, fast, and welcoming without feeling rushed. If you're in San Diego and craving excellent fish tacos, this spot absolutely delivers. Simple, delicious, and done right. I'll definitely be back.

Delicious! Totally lives up to the hype. Everything we ordered was so good!! The famous Baja fish tacos, fish dip and mushroom tacos were all excellent. Worth the wait in line. And the service was super friendly. Very cute spot! My husband started chatting with a busboy who turned out to be the owner/chef. Such a nice guy. A true artist. My husband asked him why they don't do takeout and he said it would compromise the quality. So he's basically leaving money on the table to not compromise the high standard and craft he holds for these tacos. So impressed by that ethos! That care really comes through in his food! Very deserving of all the accolades!! I would give it 6 stars if I could. Yummmmm!

    Very nice location here

All I can say is I really loved this place. It was one of the top food places I was able to fit into my few days in SD, and their tacos were so fresh and this was one of the very few places that lived up to the hype. The Fish Sandwich was amazing. As you can see from my pics so got an assortment of tacos and took recommendations from the staff- who I believe was the owner. He was very friendly and eager to please. The fish tacos were superb, probably my favorite and that's why I stopped in there. When I make it back this is on my priority list to see them again.

The plain quesadillas are simple but something about it was taste soo good, might be the cheese that they use and their handmade tortilla. The huge pile of shredded beef tasted okay, but the red gravy got all of the chips that it came into contact with really soggy and unpleasant to eat. Maybe it would have been better if I had eaten it in the restaurant, but it should not have degraded that quickly. And to claim to be Nachos? Why? What was Nacho about this messy, uninteresting dish? The only suggestion of cheese that I got was one stray pipe of yellow processed cheese that could have been mustard for all that I know. There were NO Jalapenos whatsoever. The guacamole was just one spoonful plopped down in the middle of the order. There was really nothing red hot about the food at all. So the sour cream just made it taste incredibly bland. My advice? Always go with as authentic to real Mexican food as you can find. If you really want "Gringo Sonora," I would heartily recommend Del Taco over this restaurant.

It's no secret that San Diego has tacos in…read morespades and being so close to the border, you'd think that a quest to find the perfect taco would be as simple as rolling down to the nearest taqueria. Except, it's not quite that simple. Many beloved staples have gone downhill, while some newer spots that might boast things like a Michelin mention or multiple locations ranging from TJ to Vegas contain more hype and gristle than tender meat and substance. Enter Chula Tacos. Chula is, and always was, the type of place that makes you forget that you're not actually in Tijuana. While part of me misses their OG Market Street location, seeing them with brick-and-mortars feels hard-earned and well-deserved. This location on Palm in IB is relatively easy to access from the freeway, but parking can be tricky. You can safely assume that it will be busy and you will either have to be very lucky or be willing to find a spot on the street. Out of all the times I've been here, it's always been crowded enough that I've never been able to find a table inside, but I enjoy sitting out on the patio next to the ahumederos. The first thing that hits you walking through the door is how amazing everything smells. The queue to the cashier takes you near a window showing the kitchen where you can see the Chula Tacos team making fresh tortillas, slicing meat from the trompos, grilling up jalapenos, nopales, onions, labio, and tripa. For me, it's not so much a challenge to decide what I want, it's more a challenge to keep myself from ordering everything. My usual is four tacos: two asada, two al pastor (but I've heard that I should also try their world famous keka). The tacos though? Perfection. Every time, the asada is the juiciest and most tender I've ever eaten, the al pastor is succulent and flavorful, and no taco in front of me is long for the world. At $3.50 each, every one of them is absolutely loaded. Three would honestly fill me up, but I always want four. After getting burned by spots that ask around 75% more and deliver anywhere between 25-50% less, Chula Tacos feels like an absolute godsend of a Tijuana-style taqueria and I can't see any other contenders being my go-to. So, when I say "Tacos will fix me," what I mean nowadays is "Chula Tacos will fix me."

The highlight of the menu is the Keka Taco. It is incredibly delicious, loaded with flavor, and so filling that it can easily satisfy even the biggest appetite. The only downside to this establishment is the limited parking, which can make picking up your order a bit challenging during busy times. However, the amazing food and generous portions more than make up for the parking inconvenience. If you're in the area, the Keka Taco is a must-try!

They also had some really great vegetarian options. The tostadas, veggie tacos, and flautas were all awesome and full of flavor. The margaritas were reasonably strong, which was nice. And definitely save room for the churros -- they were so good! The only thing that wasn't quite our preference was the queso fundido. It was a little more solid than we like; we prefer ours to be extra melty and gooey. Otherwise, everything was fantastic. Great food, drinks, service, and vibes!

I picked a place off Google but when we landed there we were not comfortable stopping to park, so we looked again and decided to check out La Puerta not realizing it was in the Gaslight District. I am not a fan of the Gaslight District, which is why I am so mad!! I'm going to HAVE to go back to the Gaslight District!! The food was AMAZING!! I HIGHLY recommend the Potato Flautitas. It's the kind of dish I'm going to dream about, I'm salivating now just thinking about them. I also did the Pick 3 Street Tacos (and actually ordered a 4th). The Ranchero Shrimp and Grilled Veggie were top notch. The Conchinita was recommended by our waiter, and it was interesting, tasty but different. It could have used a little more pickled onion. The only one I would not recommend (shockingly, I thought it would be the easy pass) was the carne asada. It was too greasy. My husband ordered a carne asada quesadilla and said the same, it was too wet and soaked through the tortilla. But there were no many other delightful options, I would say just don't go traditional. But honestly my favorite thing on the plate was the side dish rajas con crema, seriously, that alone is going to drag me down to the Gaslight District. I'm even considering going to a Padres game just for the excuse. I'm salivating again! As for our waiter, Colin, he was fantastic. Very informative, made great suggestions and seemed genuinely pleased by our satisfaction. He was smiling the whole time, friendly and stayed very present. I highly recommend you get yourself through the door at La Puerta and sit down for a meal ASAP. (We ate the food so fast I forgot to take pictures.)
