OMGosh!! Great food - breakfast sausage is the best I've had in years!! Biscuits are huge and homemade!! So much food I couldn't eat it all - and I am not a light eater!!! One negative- coffee is bad. Not the worst I've ever had - but certainly could be improved. Will I be back - yes!! Even with just acceptable coffee the food is that good!!! read more

We missed our exit to the ren fest. We were hungry and frustrated. Yelp reviews didn't let us down. Thanks guys! Outside isn't much to look at. The parking lot was mostly full. We snagged a spot that a leaving customer vacated. Zero wait time to park. We were seated, immediately. The value is incredible. Hubs loved his chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and fried okra. I enjoyed the fried catfish and shrimp. It was tender. It was not greasy or over fried. Hats off to real onion rings. They arrived hot with no grease. They tasted as good as they looked. We weren't sure if we wanted to try this place because of the way the pictures looked, but the reviews made us want to try it for lunch. We were glad we took the drive to this restaurant. We asked our young waitress what she would recommend and she said the country friend steak. She also recommended to share it and we were so glad we did. The steak was huge and very delicious. We also got the onion rings. They were also huge and the best we have ever had. Also got the fried okra which was so good. We were so full we didn't have dinner that night. read more

Until today this has been one of my favorite restaurants. We purposely drive 45 min to come eat here. I just left after sitting at a table for 20 min waiting to be greeted after being told to seat ourselves . We were extremely patient. Another table sat themselves at the table next to us and were greeted and served drinks within a minute. We got up and walked out. Not a single person said a word to us. Extremely disappointed. We were visiting the area and wanted to explore a local restaurant or two and thankfully discovered this little gem. Upon rolling up to the restaurant, we were frankly a bit unimpressed but once inside all doubt was gone. It's a country fish shack y'all - seriously, a very relaxed yet incredible find. If you pulled up in front of "Roadhouse " your first thought may be they've got cold beer and we may get our asses beat but hey, we're here, let's do it. Well Patrick Swayze wasn't inside keeping all under control but some really terrific staff were in charge and their recommendations were spot on. The grilled pork chop was delicious and of course, the catfish nothing less than legendary. Great home cooking and friendly staff make this a must for anyone in the area. read more

Stopped in this country style restaurant. Steam table of menu, we decided to go with the steam table. Honey had beef tips and rice with a side of broccoli with cheese. Beef tips were so tender they literally melted in your mouth! I chose the fried catfish and a side of greens. Omgeeee, those were the best greens I've had in a a restaurant in years! Perfectly seasoned and no bitterness at all. I ate most of them before I even touched the catfish. The crust on the catfish was just right, three pieces although on the small side we're plenty. I didn't care for the tarter sauce, too mayonnaisey. Decided to try the lemon meringue pie, the crust was light and flakey. Perfect! The lemon filing was not overly sweet or too tart but just right. Cannot wait to come back, we went out of our way to go here and will be coming back any time we are in the area. Sorry, no pictures this time. read more

We were really excited to try this place based on local word of mouth. There is a live band on Wednesdays which we weren't aware of. They were good, but we couldn't hear each other over the music. It was also SWELTERING inside. The place is air conditioned but I had sweat running down my back before they took our drink order. It took over 30mins to get our food, which wouldn't have been awful if we weren't miserably hot and could converse with each other while waiting. I had the fried shrimp, okra, and baked potato and it was OK, as much breading as shrimp. Nobody refilled my iced tea. I might give it another try on a different night but am in no hurry. read more

Way to much food so the Mrs and I shared the seafood platter which came with two sides. It was very good and just the right amount. Got here A little after 5pm. 12 in our party and the staff was able to accommodate us. A live band was a bit loud. The place filled up pretty well with a more mature crowd. read more

We had high expectations based on the reviews and local recommendations. Unfortunately our experience wasn't so great. The service was average. Not especially good and certainly not particularly bad. The food though was below average. We had wanted some good fried fish and ordered fried catfish and cod palters. Also our son had the cheese burger. The burger was bed enough that our 9 year old didn't finish it and he has pretty low standards. He did enjoy the sweet potato fries. The cod was like sticks of fried fish. As if it was from a frozen fish stick. It was not very good. The catfish is 1/2 of a filet. The catfish was not bad, but nothing special. None of the fish was super juicy inside yet crispy and tasty on the outside like we had wanted to have and how good fried fish is served. The fish was just very average. The side salad was fresh and tasty. All and all I can't say we will every venture back to the fish pond. read more

The fish pond is a great local restaurant between New Waverly and Willis. There is a lot of blast to past items on the walls from pictures to almost anything you can imagine. Good ole country fare is what's on the menu. We ate breakfast so can't attest to lunch menu. I had the ham and cheese omelet with a side of biscuits and sausage gravy. My son wasn't to hungry so he had a potato egg and cheese breakfast taco. He said it was pretty good. The only problem I had was that the gravy was not homemade. This "off the beaten path" restaurant is on old 75 running parallel to I-45 (exit Shepard Hill Road). Five Stars is totally based on the great food at great prices. It is true East Texas atmosphere, laid back and very casual. I always end up with the chicken fried steak but everything sounds good and it's a difficult choice. Enjoy! read more

From the moment we walked in we felt comfortable. Everyone was so friendly and the atmosphere was fun. Lots of options on the menu. We started with fried green tomatoes. Yum!!! It was a huge portion as was everything we got. I had chicken fried steak. It was huge and oh so good. Better than probably any I have had. The breading to steak ratio was perfect. The homemade onion rings were so good. My Mom has liver and onions which she said was delicious. We were way too full for dessert but there were some yummy looking pies on display. The best part was the staff. They were very friendly, helpful and attentive without being overbearing. We will definitely be back. They also have an extensive breakfast menu. read more

Another find in my new home town. Great breakfast and lunch, probably dinner too. They have all kinds of things, not just fish. I don't seem anybody going hungry, and everything is made from scratch.
