I have ten check ins so I just assumed that I'd written a review previously. And I've been here many more times than I've checked in.. I have to confess that I really didn't want to write a review on this restaurant. It's packed in season already with top reviews on Yelp and on TripAdvisor and was just voted "best seafood in Broward" for the 2017 Best of Awards (Sun/-Sentinel). Even now, we try to come here at off times -- lunch during the week; very early or late. And we skip some months during the winter as you may find yourself waiting outside in the heat an hour or so for a table. Mike, the owner, is a sweetheart. He gives great hugs too. He sells only the freshest fish and is a fisherman himself. As you've read before, this place is tiny with only 4 tables and a small counter/bar. Drinks are limited -- they have one red wine and one white; Bud or Bud light. The sodas are off brand, so if you're not drinking alcohol, I recommend the ice tea. I have some go to items -- like their buffalo shrimp, and their conch. I also like their steamed clams which are very large (and chewy) but delish. But the blackboard specials draw me in as well with fish(es) of the day. You can order them blackened, grilled or fried. As an entree with 2 sides or as a sandwich with one side. Tonight I got the triple tail sandwich (from the blackboard) and had it done lightly blackened. The fish itself is white, light, and melt in your mouth. Just delicious. The sandwich had lettuce and tomato on a bun. Instead of the cole slaw or fries, I opted for a side salad. It comes with tartar sauce but you can request cocktail if you prefer. For dessert, I had their one and only key lime pie. It's a very good version that you can get with or without whipped cream. It's also a great palate cleanser after eating fish. Save some room for dessert. So even though it's a casual, hole in the wall place, it's not cheap. Good fish (by the way the grouper is authentic) is expensive. Plan on having a long wait -- especially in season -- and if you get in sooner be happy! Don't forget to give your name to be on the wait list with one of the gals at the bar as soon as you get there. Then settle down in your car or hang out front until your name is called. I have heard and read about this place for years but they were located in a very small restaurant with a long wait. Fortunately they moved into a much larger spot. Excellent service, great menu, and very good food. I had the Cracked Conch, huge portion that comes with 2 sides. The choice of sides are Side Salad, fries, Beer Battered Onion Rings, Cole Slaw, Yellow Rice, Bleu Cheese and celery or a cucumber salad. I had the onion rings and cucumber salad, Great dish. Amazing fish, amazing service, down home feel! Greeted with warm smiles and my day got better and better. These people just made my day. The fish is absolutely delicious and I mean FRESH FISH! Not frozen little fish patties you get at most restaurants around here. This fish dinner was perfectly cooked with great flavor and a terrific selection. Either get a platter or sandwich, you cannot go wrong. I wish I would have discovered this place long ago. I'm 66 and a Broward County native so I've spent way too long without finding this little gem. The word is already out so don't delay getting over there because they have a line going out the door if you're not there on time. Clean, friendly and delicious. The servers are all related so there's no drama, just sweetness! Even the cooks are super nice. I sat outside the kitchen window and more than one of them waved at me through the door. Updated review for the new location in Lighthouse Point. Ok. Deep breath. I really liked it in its previous incarnation. This is much, much bigger, they've also made a bunch of menu additions. Got there at 11:30 on the dot, place was already half full with people starting to line up. The hype is real. Server, Shawna, is excellent, very attentive, responsive. She definitely earned her 20 percent. Soups: Lobster Bisque not good. Tasted more like tomato bisque, was not well seasoned. The clam chowder was underseasoned, required a really good dash of tabasco, potatoes were undercooked, not enough clams. Raw Items: Very good middle neck clams and oysters. Commercial cocktail sauce. Crab Cakes: Mushy, bready, lacking color, very unattractive, just not good. Sent them back. Hogfish: The taste I had of Patty's was flavorless. Jonathan thought his blackened one was meh, not happy with the fish texture, but I will let him discuss more. Broiled Seafood Platter: I think they did a good job on the scallops and shrimp. Fish Dip: Everyone liked it even me who is not a fish dip person. Fried Items/sides: French fries and Onion rings are Sysco commercial stuff. Slaw also not good. Very disappointing for the price point of this place. Fried Seafood: We believe frozen commercial cod filets are being used, they are not good. Fried shrimp was just ok, using Mccormick-style commercial breading mixes. This is very disappointing for a place at this price point. Fried Conch: This we thought they did a good job on. Nice seasoning, tender conch. Overall: Expensive, middling seafood with basic preparations. There are better places in the area for fried and broiled stuff. read more

Went there twice last week. It was that good. It's crazy that we just discovered this place. Be ready for a 20-25 min wait if not longer for weekend dinner. Our lunch visit was quicker and we got sat right away. Fresh catches (Mahi) were the best we've ever had. Get the cracked conch appetizer. The best. It's light and crispy and so delicious. Loved this place! Tucked in a corner of a strip mall, their creamy coleslaw was perfect...really creamy and just the right amount of sweetness. First time I ever had fried conch and i thought it was way better than calamari which I like. Onion rings, shrimp, cod and clams (all fried) were crispy and done right. The crab cakes were nice. I assume they were pan fried. They seemed like they were mostly crab which is a good thing (ever ordered crab cakes and they taste like crab stuffing?) We were quickly seated and our waitress was attentive. The waitstaff is friendly and right on the ball! There are only 12 booths in the place and space at the counter, and usually a wait for a table but it's worth it! I really like local places like this. It's in a grocery store parking lot, but the seafood was fresh and amazingly good. The owner, I believe, came out from the kitchen and sat with and old friend and her husband and talked most of the time we were there, and he knew a lot of his customers. I ordered the combo grilled shrimp scallops and fish it came with two sides steam broccoli and a side salad. The salad was lettuce a few cucumbers onion and croutons. Boring. My meal tasted good Not great. Good. My husband ordered the buffalo shrimp and he said that was very tasty. The presentation of the whole meal was just mediocre I just expected more. This hole in the wall has so many amazing reviews for a reason! Even though I don't particularly like seafood, Fish Shack has been on my radar for a while because of all the rave reviews. It's also really close to my dad's house. So when we had nothing to do on a rainy Tuesday, we stopped in for lunch. We walked in around 1:30 pm and thankfully had no wait. I opted for the fish and chips, while my dad decided to get a salad and the clam chowder. The salad was not memorable at all, but he LOVED that soup -- so much that he ordered a second bowl! I have zero interest in trying clam chowder, but he was thrilled and he usually doesn't get too excited about food. My fish and chips came and it was a ton of food. There was no way I'd be able to eat all three pieces of fish and the fries, so I enlisted my dad's help. The fish was light, flaky and crispy on the outside -- definitely some of the best fish and chips I've had! Even the fries were nice and crispy and seasoned just right, and I'm usually not a big fan of fries. The only issue I had was I'd asked for extra lemon and, though they brought more, it was still a big stingy. I will definitely return, but I'm bringing my own lemon juice (I need to drown fish in lemon, it's the only way I can eat it, haha). Though we didn't have a wait when we arrived, the place filled up soon after, and a few parties were standing and waiting in the tiny place for a seat... and this was on a Tuesday afternoon!
