We came in for lunch on a random weekday. It was very busy. We were placed on a waiting list and it seemed they were trying to space tables 6 Ft apart--until they weren't. I was a little apprehensive but felt okay as we were pretty far from the nearest table. Our server was very busy and she was trying to play hostess and server and take care of the bar area, etc. There was another server who was helping as well. It took a bit longer than I would have liked but I had empathy as she was busy. I got the lobster roll, my husband the grouper fresh catch of the day, and my 3yo chicken fingers. The lobster roll was amazing. Just the way I like it--less Mayo, more lobster on a perfect roll. My husband seemed very satisfied with his meal but after seeing my lobster roll, which he ordered it. I've never had better service in a restaurant. I ordered at the suggestion of our server the triple tail. I ordered it grilled as a sandwich without the bread and my one side was the onion rings. (See my logic? Lol) it was grilled and seasoned perfectly and very good. Tender, mild and the beer batteries rings are off the hook. My date was not in the mood for fish (yes.... at the "fish shack"). So he ordered the grilled chicken breast with rings and cucumber salad. The chicken was butterflied, grilled and juicy. This is an out-of-the way 20 seat restaurant tucked into a corner of a residential neighborhood. You have to know to come here - this is a destination, not a place you happen to drive past. The restaurant was packed when we arrived. We waited about 10 minutes for a table. The store's windows have painted island themes blocking the inside view. It looks a bit sketchy but it's an authentic island fish shack! The interior looked like a typical island place - pale blue walls, plain tables and chairs, a few nautical decorations on the walls and locals lining up for fresh fish. Our server wore a recovered coin from the Atocha on a necklace and sported a British accent. She and her coworkers never stopped moving between the kitchen and tables. Even so, they were friendly and engaging. We shared shrimp and scallop fritters - 2" golden fried balls of diced shrimp and scallops with just enough cornstarch to hold them together. We all thought they were hot and delicious, especially with a spray of fresh lemon juice or dunked in tartar sauce. We shared cracked conch - pronounced 'conk'! The firm, springy flesh was softened and dredged in breadcrumbs before being fried. They were served with a sauce (ketchup and mayo?) but I preferred it with fresh lime juice and hot sauce. Not many places serve conch so I enjoyed having food I only had in the Bahamas! And these were good. What we loved: We had a fried grouper sandwich, grilled grouper platter and fried hog fish platter. All the portions were generous. The grilled grouper was excellent - from the grill marks to the flavor, it was a hit. The fried grouper was firm, fresh and not greasy. Even so, we all preferred the grilled fish. When I ordered the hog fish the server asked how I wanted it and I said fried because I assumed it was a whole fish. This would leave the inside soft and the outside crispy. When it was served, I got a plate of fried fish filets! I'd have ordered it grilled if I knew! Even so, the hogfish snapper was sweet, and almost fluffy! It was not as firm as the grouper but it tasted just as fresh! We all took leftover fish home. We also took another order of shrimp and scallop fritters and a slice of key lime pie! What we didn't love: We all thought the cole slaw had too much mayo. My salad with Caesar dressing was ok - the bottled dressing wasn't the typical creamy type, the croutons were straight out of a package and the sprinkle of shaker cheese didn't do much for the salad. But really, who comes to a fish place for salad? Hubby's fries were average but tasty. I only had a forkful of the key lime pie - the flavor was good but it tasted almost powdery. Hubby liked it. I wanted to love it but I didn't - so we stopped at the store on our way home and I got key lime pie ingredients! I never made the pie before but it was so simple - and tasty - that I'll definitely make it again! In a way I should thank Fish Shack for making their key lime pie as they did - it prompted me to make my own! But when we want fresh fish again, I'm not trying my hand at cooking it. We'll be back here - hubby even wants to try their burgers. The server was a doll, as were her co-workers. The place has a casual vibe. And the food is the real deal! read more

6:45 PM on a Wednesday in February. We waited about 45 minutes for a table for 4 to open up. After being seated, the waitress was very friendly and answered some of our questions about a few menu items and the daily specials. We had the Ahi Tuna Bites as an appetizer. They were expertly seared with the middle still pink and cold. Tartar sauce and wasabi mayo were the two dipping sauces offered, and the wasabi mayo was the winner! Our meals were the Fried Seafood Platter (cod, shrimp, clams), Fried Conch, Grilled Cajun Hogfish, and Grilled Cajun Wahoo. The conch was similar to calamari, and had pieces that were more meatier and less chewy. I had the Wahoo. It was a very dense, meaty fish with alot of flavor. I tried it in a multitude of dipping sauces and hot sauces, and it stood up to each one of them. Very versatile fish, tasty and filling. As far as the sides went the cucumber/onion salad was a pickled salad and a great palette refresher. The broccoli was fresh, and lightly steamed. Not mushy but not crisp...perfect. I also added a squirt of fresh lemon juice to the fish and broccoli to bring a little acid to the party. The onion rings were a little greasy, but the batter had good flavor. The coleslaw was cream based and my mother finished all of it, when she normally isn't a huge coleslaw person. The prices were to be expected for a seafood restaurant in a tourist area. Our 4 meals plus appetizer totaled $100 before tax. We only had water to drink. Honestly, it was worth every dollar. Great food, prepared well. Service was consistent and not intrusive. Our server seemed to care about our dining experience and was quick and efficient when meeting our needs. We would definitely return to Fish Shack. You'll find Fish Shack, a neighborhood hovel of a place located in a squalid, disheveled, deteriorated and disintegrating off side neighborhood strip mall. However, that being said, I like the place since the area is generally safe, not located in all that bad of a neighborhood, the restaurant is clean, the one waitress service friendly and the little, approximately 12 person table seating capacity, rather nice with a simple seaside type of décor. Your beer choices are two: Bud or Bud Lite, but the menu (see picture) is decent and the quality of the food very good. I had some of the best fried Ipswich clams ($14.95 with two sides) ever, really delightful, plump, not over breaded and perfectly prepared. Elsewhere I've paid a lot more, have been served a lot less and generally ended up with an over breaded grease plate. The atmosphere is "neighborhood divey," but extremely pleasant. Overall, Fish Shack happens to be one of these little hole in the wall gems that we Yelpites generally tend to seek out. read more

I have tried the wings and chicken sandwich and they are also excellent. This is exactly the type of hidden gem that one can find thanks to Yelp! We walked in at 5 PM to a cheerful hello, 4 tables that were full and took 2 seats at the counter. (Capacity is only about 20 seats.) While the shrimp and mahi were very tasty, the scallops may have been the best I've ever had. Flavorful, tender and buttery texture made me wish that's all I had ordered. The fish platter came piping hot, crunchy and flaky. By the time we left there was a 20 min wait. We also ordered 2 key lime pie slices to go and they were the perfect balance of sweet and tart. Just as my sister and her partner arrived, another party of 5 arrived at the same time. They seated the other party. Very silly & disrespectful rule especially considering my mom is in a wheelchair. So we had guests visiting from Long Island, NY (our original hometown). Their one request was to have good fried shrimp at a local seafood place. Living in far NW Broward, we had no idea where to go locally. So we turned to Yelp, and low and behold, we found Fish Shack. Great reviews, and on the way to (sort of) the airport! The reviews said it was small, and it is, and they said it can get crowded, and it can. Our plan was for our group of five to arrive just before noon. When we arrived, all the tables were taken, but there were six stools at the counter. No sooner had we sat down, when the lunch rush started. Our plan was successful. Our group ordered: Grilled Mahi sandwich Panko crusted crab cake sandwich Ahi Tuna burger Fried shrimp plate Grilled crab cake plate, and a bowl of clam chowder. Well we spent a significant portion of our time there switching plates and trying everyone else's food. EVERYTHING was just delish. Now, the place will not win any awards for its decor, but that's not why you go to Fish Shack! We also looked at what some of our fellow diners had ordered, and the tuna bites and wahoo sandwich our counter-mates were eating also looked really nice. Something they confirmed. Finally, I need to comment on our server, Kim. Even though it was super busy, she made sure we had everything we needed, and our drinks remained filled. AND was smiling and happy throughout. I am so happy to have found this place! What a tiny, easy to miss place it is- but don't be dismayed at it's simple appearance! This place makes some wonderfully fresh seafood. We grabbed a seat at the bar, and were waited on by Jodi. She was so sweet, and attentive. I begged my husband to split the cracked conch with me- but he assured me he hated conch and to only count on him for a bite. Jodi joked with me that he would be singing a different toon once the dish arrived, and she was right. I love conch, and this was among the best of them. My conch hating husband was eating more than me! I had the sandwich with the catch of the day- hogfish! I love hogfish and order it everywhere i go that has it. It was blackened to perfection and served with the most delicious fries. The tartar sauce was a little... Ehh, not my taste, so i just used more of the wonderful sauce that came with the cracked conch. We visited Fish Shack in Lighthouse Point mid week on a Wednesday afternoon as I had heard about how busy they get and how good the food is from several locals including my Dentist who is an avid fisherman. In conversation, I was telling him about another local seafood restaurant that I was about to review. He immediately suggested Fish Shack. They are in the Beacon Light Plaza in Lighthouse Point. When we arrived we were promptly greeted and seated by our server. We were given our menus and offered water. The server explained the fish board to us which is a board that lists the fresh fish that they have in house and the ways that you can have it. After reviewing the menu I saw they offered a Shrimp and Scallop Fritter. I have never seen that so we had to give them a taste. Well, I can tell you this, I now have a new favorite fritter! They were perfectly fried to a golden brown and so light and fluffy yet loaded with shrimp and scallop. FYI they also offer the same mix as a burger. We then went on to order our main meals which were the fried combo platter as well as the grilled combo platter. This would give us a better feel of the freshness and authenticity of the seafood. I must say both were totally awesome. The grilled Mahi tasted so fresh it must have been caught that day. The scallops and shrimp were succulent and so flavorful. On the fried platter the breading was deliciously seasoned and like the fritters cooked to perfection. The cod was out of this world and the shrimp also seasoned wonderfully. For dessert we opted for the Key Lime Pie that had a great balance between sweet and tart. I must mention that they do offer Hook and Cook which I'm sure that the local fishermen take advantage of. The service was very friendly and attentive. They explain the menu and even offer suggestions. My first impression upon entering was that I did not smell seafood or fish and the place was impeccably clean, which is a great sign and scores major points for me.
