My friends and I went to the Shack a few weeks ago and it was their first time going there. It was not my first time. I talked them into going. They were hesitant to go at first but once they arrived at our big round table, they were ok. They found out that the shack serves only fresh fish and when they saw the chefs cooking in the open kitchen, they loved it even more. Most of us ordered the fish of the day meal and one gal ordered the fish tacos. Everyone loved their meals and the service was great. The highlight of the night was when a few of the gals got the onion rings and when they got them, the rings were really thin and there was a huge pile of them. Not the usual onion ring situation. Actual rating is 3.7 and not definitive as I would like to return and dine in. Ordered the oyster po'boy and the fish and chips. Parking right in front of location is limited to a few spots but there is public parking right a cross the street if needed. The place is small but has a comfortable feel to it. They have a bar, patio seating out back, and table inside. Prices are not too bad. The fish and chips: battered was more of a casing. The fish would slip out and/or batter would just fall apart. Def too much air inside creating the pocket and not adhering to the fish itself. The fish though was very fresh, good flavor, and was not skimpy at all. Fries were basic. Oyster po'boy: huge sandwich loaded with a decent amount of fried oysters. These were vary flavorful and cooked perfectly, not too much not too little. The coleslaw was amazing, such great fresh flavor. Fries a little too basic and greasy. Overall I would return as mentioned before to try out other items on menu. read more

We had a wonderful experience at the Fishack today. Everything was as described by the staff. They do seafood New England style. Their fish is fresh and wild caught. I had the shrimp and grits and boy was it comforting. The grits were warm and creamy, the shrimp were blackened and a bit spicy, the spinach was sauteed and fresh. Together the three made an incredible winning combination. I tried the mahi special too. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the quality was excellent. The mahi was grilled just right and the feta, tomatoes and other seasonings worked well with the dish. We turned down dessert and opted for a walk instead. After a while, the conversation came up about pie. We started looking to find something in the area. There really wasn't much open or available so we ended up stopping back in at the Fishack for some really good key lime pie. I have not had many items off of their menu but, I have noticed that some of the food items on the menu tend to be greasy, and many of the prices seem a bit high for the portion size. For instance, the conch fritters appetizer was tasty but a bit greasy, and the portion size felt way too small for the price of $12.95. However, the restaurant's location is convenient, and there isplenty of parking available. I also found the staff to be very friendly and welcoming. read more

Stopped in for lunch today with the parents. Loved the menu and all it had to offer. I ended up going with the Maui blackened tacos. It came with fries which were so good and tasted freshly cut and not from a frozen bag. The mahi was a tad over cooked but still Delish. The hot sauce they have is fire and worth the try. I just moved to Vero beach! I was told to try Fishack! The service was great and the food was superb. In the pictures you will first see the conch chowder. Rich and spicy. It was very chili like but had great flavor. Next are the conch fritters. These were some of the best I've ever had. I also ordered the blackened tuna tacos. I ate them and the crispy onion straws at home. It was good but the slaw needed more flavor. What impressed me besides the great service was that all the food came out hot as hot food should. I had a nice view of the cooks line and I was impressed. It's a nice beach feel of a restaurant with lots of nice beach type scenery. Overall I'll definitely go back! read more

This is a small and casual restaurant with bright & lively beach decor. The seafood gumbo was spicy but could've used a little bit more seafood. The lobster salad was excellent. Generous portions of tasty lobster meat on top of a fresh bright green salad with a great vinaigrette dressing. Service was prompt and friendly. This place is my favorite hands down! I had the very best blackened mahi mahi sandwich here. They have sweet potato tots which are my fave and the peel and eat shrimp were delicious. Today we had a conch fritters app with boom boom sauce. Fritters were fried to golden brown in nice clean oil. Huge chunks of conch , peppers onion very nice with their yummy remoulade called boom boom sauce. Real good stuff. My wife also enjoyed a cup of clam chowder, that was super flavorful and house made. Big pieces of clam, potato's onion in a rich creamy herbaceous broth. Delicious. For entrees we had a shrimp po- boy, a ton of perfectly fried, lightly breaded fresh shrimp, w lettuce, tomato, onion on a nice soft hoggie roll. I applied tarter in place of mayo. Soooo good! Wife got the shrimp basket at least 12 nice size shrimp on a bed of very good fries and house made coleslaw. She loved it. My son ordered the fish and chips, three nice pieces of cod in beer batter fried to perfection also w fries and yummy coleslaw excellent. They have sailfish ipa, from the next town to the south. Piney/ citrus foamy goodness The service is very good, on top of it but very chill. Go with their recommendations! Different fresh fish which can be use in dishes or sandwiches for small upcharge. The Fishack is a funky beach-themed bar and restaurant featuring many varieties of seafood. The decor is mostly beach kitsch with lots of hand-painted details and some great murals. (The ladies room included!) We were in the neighborhood to visit the place next door and decided to stop in for a pre-drink beverage. After seeing some yummy food options delivered to others sitting at the bar we had a look at the menu and ordered the conch fritters and the lobster mac & cheese. The conch fritters were small, but had nice big chucks of conch in them. They were the conch-iest fritters I have ever had and I would order them again and again! The folks next to us also order some oysters that looked great, some fish tacos and a grilled fish sandwich, all of which they seemed really happy with. Another gem in Vero Beach. We first visited the restaurant in the middle of 2021 when there were still some restrictions due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both of our visits have been excellent thus far. The seafood stew is a must-try! We've ordered that in each of our visits and it is always delicious. The shrimp and grits is another home-run, their grits are flavorful and great portion. We are a stickler for hospitality, and this restaurant passes with flying colors. It is not overpriced and what you get in return is worth every cent and more. First of all, finding anyone claiming to serve "true New England style seafood" anywhere OUTSIDE of New England, is nearly impossible, but the Fishack nailed it! Ipswich whole-belly clams were sheer perfection and are flown in daily! Wow! Who would've ever guessed it? The dirty oysters were also phenomenal- succulent, sweet and salty, and well, I just had to close my eyes to fully enjoy the flavors swirling and dancing on my palate. I was in my happy place!
