Stopped in today on our first visit to Charlottetown, as my dad wanted some oysters and it was the first bar we saw. It gets a 2 star for the service (waitress had no interest in serving us). The glasses were dirty, the beer was not that cold. We dropped in for some pints of beers and some appetizers. Two split some oysters that they really enjoyed, blueberry sauce that came with it was a great touch. I split the mussels (in wine and herb sauce) and they were pretty good. read more

It was a rainy day in Charlottetown and we headed to fishbones for dinner. We were seated at the bar while we waited for a table for about 15 minutes. Our table was excellent - right by the window looking out on the street. We ordered haddock tacos, garlic shrimp and the side summer salad. The tacos were good. Crispy fish, soft pitas but not anything out of the ordinary. The garlic shrimp, too, were tasty but nothing special. We really were not fond of the salad. It was absolutely dripping in mustard dressing and neither of us could eat it. Overall, 3 stars. Would likely be a different experience on the rooftop patio or with live music on the stage. read more

I can't believe I'm about to give this place a three star. The food was tasty - I wolfed down my lobster salad and oysters which were raw & baked. I devoured them. It was phenomenal but the price didn't match. $18 for my salad, ouch! I will however justify that with the fact that there was lobster in my salad so screw my $18. What really broke me was my boyfriends clam chowder. It was lovely but the serving was too small for $16. Also, there were 3 perfectly placed mussels for presentation atop the bowl which looked pretty, but one was closed. What restaurant (that obviously strives for presentation and good eats) serves a closed/bad mussel as a main piece of presentation? The chefs clearly picked out three mussels from another pot and put them on top of the soup. Wtf man?! To end this on a positive note, the atmosphere was vibin' and the artists on stage across the street were killin' it! read more

Our waitress was friendly, but kept checking on all the tables around us and skipping ours (for the first 15 minutes), she came by just as we were ready to give up; service improved significantly from then on. While visiting the East Coast, my friend recommended a few places she had liked and we ended up at Fishbones for dinner one night. As a party of 5, we made a reservation and were seated right away when we got there on the busy Canada Day night. We all ordered some drinks to start off and I had ordered one of their local beers - the Blueberry Ale. The cocktails and beers were all fantastic and thoroughly enjoyed by our group. For apps - two of my friends ordered oysters to share and I ordered a chowder. The chowder very rich and filling for the small size (I shared this with a friend). For the main, I opt for the sesame crusted tuna with potato salad as my side (sesame crusted, seared medium rare, hoisin ginger glaze, veggies, choice of side). I had to say that I was disappointed with this as the hoisin sauce was overpowering and overall made the entire dish salty. I feel like they tried to add an asian flare to it but it ended up just tasting like the sauce. Overall, I thought that the food was decent but slightly on the expensive side for the amount of food you actually get in each dish. read more

Good location on Victoria Row with street seating facing street musician performers and rooftop patio can't make up for the small portions and subpar quality for food. The sesame crusted tuna was quite tasteless and barely enough to feed a small child. Grilled salmon was similarly minuscule but slightly better prepared. The 8oz striploin is respectably 8oz, but otherwise not interesting. The beef vindaloo is decently sized and is perhaps the best dish on the menu to fill you up with carbs, but taste wise is not particularly noteworthy. I would recommend this place for drinks and the atmosphere, but skip the food. read more

Just read the previous reviews for fish bones.. My family decided on a dinner downtown, wasn't my call. Overall food was good, but service was a little scarce. My sis had the paella with 4 out of 6 mussels closed/ bad. What chef serves closed mussels. Obviously untrained cooks, that's who. They did it in the past and are still doing it. We didn't complain but she couldn't finish after being turned off by the bad and the server said she would mention it to someone. When she got the bill, not a credit of any kind. Murphy restaurants are known for hiring anyone and training them themselves, minimum wages paid. That's it Good cooks know their stuff. Enough said read more

We grabbed lunch on the day we arrived in PEI. The portions were HUGE, the price was reasonable and the service was friendly.

Quiet restaurant on a Sunday, off the pedestrian walkway. Waitress missed telling us the specials (which was seared tuna), so we ordered the lobster clubhouse sandwich with fries, and the scallop burger with fries. The scallop burger, while a great idea, was a disaster on a bun. 4 individually battered and deep fried scallops on a bun with a generic tarter sauce on the bun... Even cutting this in half - the only safe way to eat this is a knife and fork. Who wants to eat a burger like that?! The lobster clubhouse was safer on the mess scale, but not that great on the taste scale. Overall the location was good, but the food and service left a person full, but not satisfied. read more

This turned out to be our least favorite seafood dining experience on our recent trip back to PEI. Briefly, our opinion is that the food at Fishbones is overpriced and under-tasty. The oysters -- we always start with oysters in PEI -- were good, the selection small. The shrimp po' boy was, to be kind about it, terrible. The shrimp were large and devoid of any taste, stuffed into bread from a grocery, and filled with a mayo-like substance. Yuck. The chowder was about mediocre, a bit on the thin side and hardly filled with seafood chunks, and it was priced at $16. Nothing else is worth mentioning. We sat outside, which was pleasant, but happily it also allowed us to get out of there a little more quickly. read more

We ate here twice (so far), and I feel compelled to offer a review for two reasons. 1) The fish and chips are AWESOME AND GLUTEN-FREE. Several places in town offer a GF option for fish and chips, cooked in a separate fryer, but at the one other place we tried the batter was nice and crispy but pretty much inedible. Here, they are so confident in their GF batter that it's the only one available. The batter is thin, crispy and neutral in flavour. The haddock filet was thick and buttery. The fries were also good -- shoestring-ish, but crispier. 2) I saw some reviews criticizing main dishes. I can't confirm or deny those, but the appies we tried were great, including oysters, baked oysters and garlic shrimp (with grilled bread to slop up the yummy cream sauce). I'm not going with 5 stars because the service can be slow and a bit disorganized. It's not terribly so, but it could be an issue if you were in a hurry. We weren't. Other notes: - LOVED the red wine sangria. The fruit was just berries, but it was a delicious mix of cranberries and fresh seasonal berries. It worked! - The Bulwark cider is delicious (and GF). - The Acadian Milkshake dessert is outstanding -- quality dairy products, real vanilla and real maple syrup. read more

Super fun place for lunch on the roof when the weather is good. The roof is a few flights up with a more limited menu but really tastes great. Would probably be a great place for a late drink with the singles crowd. The service was a bit slow and in attentive. Warrants 5 stars if the service was better. The location is great. It's right on Victoria Row, in downtown Charlottetown. In the summer you can eat outside on the pedestrian walkway. I really recommend the fries with lobster sauce...it's a great little appetizer. One thing about this restaurant is the wait staff. The service is never consistent. However, given the size of the restaurant and the outdoor seating, it's understandable for the wait staff to be a little flustered at times. This is not a place for fine dining...it's an excellent location to visit with a large group of friends. Make sure to try the Murphy Beers (microbrewery.) The Sir. John A's Honey Wheat ale is my favourite. read more

Service was a little slow but they were busy, and since it was a great experience sitting on the patio taking in the Jazz, we didn't mind too much. The portions were good, but when you're from the US, it takes some getting used to the reduced sizes. I'm giving this a 4 star rating strictly because of the staff. We arrived at fishbones to have a late lunch, we order drinks & they were delicious, we got a margarita and a white sangria (the margarita was better than the sangria & one of the best margaritas I've ever had). Unfortunately, the kitchen ran out of propane so we were unable to get food, HOWEVER, we encountered 3-4 waitresses & they were amazing, even though we weren't able to get food and only had one drink each we will be coming back to try the food because the staff was incredible. They were all lovely girls & even though we had to leave & find another place to eat, we were treated better than I've ever been treated in a restaurant before! We can't wait to come back & have a meal with more margaritas! Fishbones is a really great example of how good staff can make an experience amazing regardless of any hiccups that may happen!! The propane issue was out of everyone's control so it's not something we would hold against them because these things can so easily happen. If I could give a recommendation it would be the option of having battered fish in the fish tacos! See you guys again soon !! read more

PRO's - Sensational food and presentation CON's - Price may seem steep until food is tasted As I walked in and my feet stuck to the floor, I anguished. However, once the friendly staff seated us and I ordered the local craft beer which went down so smooth, I decided to jump into the menu. Although new to the oyster experience, they were delicious and refreshing. Sharing the mussels ($12) was mandatory as the portion is quite large and perfectly seasoned. What really knocked my socks off was the main. I had the Cajun Shrimp Penne ($18) and was savoring every last drop. The shrimp were cooked just right and the sauce was so rich. My fiancé had the chicken supreme which sent her to her own private Nirvana - that is until I tried a bite myself. For dessert she had the Grilled Peach and Ice Cream ($8)s and I devoured the ravishing Ice Cream Cake($). The prices don't exactly make my wallet sing, but my taste buds are yelling from the mountain tops - EAT HERE! read more

A "most unenjoyable experience" is the summary of this seafood spot , there's "no value" to be found on the menu, with pricey dishes with mediocre flavour; expect the rare cooked tuna to be cooked thoroughly, the Caesar salad to be swimming with dressing, which is enhanced by "worst mohito ever" from the small bar and "uncoordinated", "inattentive" service. Expect to wait ~40 minutes to order a beer and get the orders wrong anyway, when you sit on the patio on a dead Sunday night. read more

Some say location is key and this place has prime location. Beautiful atmosphere and the outdoor seating is prime at night with great live entertainment, beautiful lights and fun atmosphere. Our server was great, coming back to check on us often and when I asked about the local beers she seemed to have a wealth of knowledge or at the very least seemed interested enough to give me some input. Being in the east I clearly wanted some fresh east coast seafood. And obviously, I was looking for dealsies. I unfortunately did not find it. I was always under the impression that if you're in the East, seafood, ie. Lobster was dirt cheap. I guess I was wrong. The only thing I found was cheaper was salmon. In the end, we got the seafood platter which consisted of a 1 lb. lobster, lots of mussels, 2 oysters, some smoked salmon and shrimp. Delicious, fresh and delicious. Straight up yum. Classic steamed lobster, and the rest I don't really care but it was very basic but very yummy. It was a total, with tip was about $115 with a beer. Pretty pricy but it was a good experience and I was pretty happy. I would definitely come back here but I've heard of multiple other great eats in the area. read more

I enjoyed a nice meal on the rooftop. I recommend the tuna sliders with a summer salad. The rooftop view is quaint (but quite windy and can get chilly) and this seems to be the place to go to find young and hip from town... I didn't have cocktails but folks seemed to be enjoying it. read more

Bar tender was hot and polite potato farmer! Oysters were juicy, but sauces suxed. (where is the champagne vinegar and shallot sauce?) Outside seating was worth it with the live entertainment on the street. Our waitress was a bit flustered. I think her bun came undone, but still pleasant. Went There with Friends on Thursday Night for drinks. the rooftop is Amazing in the Lounge Area and the music was also Awersome! Great place to enjoy a drink and dance on some pop/rock live music. Some nice seats on the first floor too and on the outside terasse. We went 3 times in the month we spent in Charlottetown: Definetly our Favorite Bar in the city for the Roof, the music and the feel of the place. I would recommend the fuzzy peach Fishbowl if you feel like having a lot or want to share with a friend altough it's pretty sweet. read more

We went here our first night in Charlottetown. Our evening started off well enough. We waited at the bar for a table and had some oysters. We were then shown a table outside and ordered some PEI mussels. They were good but the presentation was lacking, they can in a small bucket. I prefer in a large bowl with some bread so you can sop up the broth. Then it all went down hill. We waited for an hour an a quarter for our main course to arrive. We asked the waiter several time and were assured they'd be right out. Twenty minutes later the manager came over and said our dinners went to the wrong table, but ours would be out in 8 minutes. After another twenty minutes we said we were leaving and ask for our check. The manager comp'd our bill and gave us a $25 gift card, so he did what he could. Clearly they need a visit from CHef Ramsey. I'd try the Pilot House where we had a nice meat the second night. read more

Ordered sweet and spicy wings along with the jalapeno popper dip. Both were quality choices. My first visit to Fishbones a few years ago was very memorable - had gorgeous flavourful fish tacos and an ice cold lager to wash them down. Around a year and a half later I went back... my second round of tacos were flavourless. Some bland deep fried fish and some limp and slimy mesclun mix. Pathetic. My service on my second visit lacked confidence and any warmth. On other visits to this location for their bar scene, the bartenders tend to preferentially serve friends/other MHG employees and ignore other patrons. Will never be back! read more

There were four of us and we ordered the red pepper and lobster dip (excellent), calamari (greasy and too few calamari), Caesar salad (okay only), fish and chips (fish as good, chips were little soggy), pulled pork sandwich (pork was a little too sweet but that may have been a personal thing), seared tuna (not a great tuna - a little tasteless).
