Unprofessional taking between owner and staff that all could here while eating. Food was just so so. Not worth the price

After walking from store to store all day trying to keep up with the family, it was a pleasant surprise to sit outside and enjoy a cold Guinness at Fitzpatrick's Tavern. Our server Sam was humorous and inviting, and recommended the Reuben sandwich. As it turns out he was right when he told us it was "the bomb". I can't remember ever enjoying a Reuben that wasn't dry or like all the others. This Reuben is a real stand out. Great onion rings, pulled pork, even the pickles were exceptional. The only reason this review is a four star is that the restaurants restrooms are two Porta Potty's while the building is under construction. Other wise, everyone in our party of six were very pleased with Fitzpatrick's Tavern and I look forward to tackling another "killer" Reuben soon. read more

Amazing food, I brought family from out of town to Solvang for their first time visiting. The service was great very friendly and helpful. I was impressed how delicious the food was. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich and we were afraid the chicken would be dry but the on contrary it was very juicy. We will be back. read more

Service and food were not good at all. We called ahead to see what wait time was as every other restaurant in town had at least an hour wait. Person who answered said there was not wait for a table. We got there 5 mins after we called and all tables were occupied. Only 5 or 6 tables in the place. As we walked in waiter who sounded like person on phone walked by and said seat ourselves even though there were no tables available. After 5 or so mins of feeling like we were in the way someone finally got up. We sat down as to not loose the table and took a bit for someone to come clean plates,cups and leather tip holder away. No one wiped the table down. Just handed us menus. I ordered a beer and my Wife a soda. Took forever to take food order. Asked for an appetizer then main food. My wife's soda came quickly. After that felt like 10 mins before I got my beer. Appetizer finally came and in less then 5 mins our food came. Barley ate half the appetizer. My wife got Mac n cheese and said it was so tasteless she had to put a ton of salt on it. She ended up only eating half of it because it was so flavorless. I got corned beef with veggies. Veggies were warm and beef was barley warm. Was obvious it sat for a bit before coming out. I ate it as we were hungry and hate to waste food. Mine had no flavor as well. Took forever to flag someone down to get check and this place was super small. Two wait staff were talking behind bar and not paying attention to anything else. I wanted to leave no tip but my wife insisted I leave at least a few dollars on a $40 check. Terrible experience. Saw another table that only a few people got food then had to wait a bit for others in group which felt like it took a bit so am sure their food got cold. read more

Came to this place based on location.... the staff is aaaamazing... helpful picking drinks for those with gluten allergies... had the dubliner burger that was great... cooked well.. good flavor. Fries were great as well. Had the fish and chips as well... the fish was seasoned and cooked perfectly... not greasy. This place is a must try. read more

Disorganized and bad service. We were excited to see an Irish pub in Solvang and after only wine for the last 2 days were more than ready for a beer and a glass of whisky. When my husband ordered a Guinness and whiskey, instead of nicely or even professionally letting us know they only serve beer, the response with an attitude was" we don't serve hard liquor, we don't have a license, it costs 200k" wow ok, first hint we should have left, So then same rude guy in kilt takes our order, tells us he will bring drinks and change to our table. Well he Never brought the change, but did bring us a bill about 40 mins later? We already paid for the drinks! We asked for our change and he seemed offended. Then to top it off as we looked over the bill he had already added gratuity to it? So no change, and on top of that adding his own tip? Annoying. If you don't like what you do, then do something else, please don't take it out on your customers. read more

We live near by and walk to get some good food and good local beer on tap. It's dog friendly in the outside area. So we walk our pup their. Also a good pit stop on farmers market days. Good customer service always. And TVs inside and outside for watching the game. read more

Fun place, bar tenders are nice. Not a full bar with some weird alcohol and normal Irish bar beers. Down side is it closes at 8pm. I would recommend it and will be back. read more

Three stars because the food was good but the service was not. When our waitress came to take our drinks order she was extremely rude. My family and I didn't know that the drinks menu was on the side of the table so when I asked what drinks they had she proceeded to sigh, point to the drinks menu, and slowly read out the options as if my family and I were all illiterate. At this point we were pretty pissed off but made our orders anyway. We ordered the Dublin burger, fish and chips, and soup in bread (I don't remember the name of this one). We got the food promptly and it was all delicious. Even though the food was great I probably wouldn't come here again just because of her rude behavior. Oh and there's an 18% gratuity so she got a good tip even though she didn't deserve it. read more

Enjoyed spending my evening at this place on my last stay at Solvang. It's small and gets busy as things here close at 5 in danish town. My wife got the Sheppard a pie and loved it! I got the philly which was packed with meat and peppers. The manager is a great guy! He is friendly and very serviceable. He knows what he's talking about and makes you feel super comfortable. Been coming to Solvang since I was a kid. Love the place. Have seen this Irish Tavern the last few times we've been to Solvang and have been wanting to try it out just never got a chance. Finally able to check it out last week but was pretty disappointed. Rude staff. My older buddy who is super nice was with us. Asked the tall/tattoo'd (with the green streaked hair), server if she was from Solvang and her response was: "Yes unfortunately", and she looked like she meant it(I would have been proud). Took our drink order but seemed really snappy and pissed. Drinks arrived, beer was cold. The wine mixer(no liquor license), my girlfriend ordered was very tasty as well. Took our food order. Started giving her our very simple "3 item to go order" and she shushed me. Told me I was ordering too fast in a rude tone. Waited a while for the order(place was not really busy). Didn't come back to check on our drinks(Tavern), went up to the bar to order a couple more drinks. The tattoo'd fellow who I guess is the owner/manager was quick with the drinks but not with the smile. Order arrived but one of the items was wrong. Mentioned it to her a couple times as she was taking the order but the order was still wrong. Received the make-up order and tho it didn't look right(again), we went with it. Didn't want to linger the issue since my buddy and I wanted to enjoy a couple more beers up at the bar. Order left with two from our party. My buddy and I went up to the bar to catch up some of the MLB scores. We were the only two at the bar and were never approached again after 15 minutes. Ordered the check. Still left a decent tip since I know some places share with the kitchen staff(I hope here too). Left, took our money around the corner(our original plan in the first place), to Copenhagen Sausage Garden. Great food, great beer, Great helpful (happy/smiley looking staff), great time! Thank you. Long story short and sorry but I had to tell it as I saw it. Won't be coming here again. I couldn't in good conscious recommend this place either. It's a shame since it has a lot of potential and is centrally located. Better customer service goes a long way. Over the years I have seen better establishments in Solvang close their doors for good. Establishments who appreciate and respect their customers and know damn well that those tourist dollars are what keeps this beautiful little town and it's merchants and their families thriving or afloat. I can't review the food....because we never received it. We placed our order for drinks (just water so not complicated) and food. And then waited. And waited. And waited. I finally asked my husband to go inside and ask for water bc I was thirsty. And then we waited. And waited. Finally after 50 minutes, my husband went and asked about our food. They had no record of our order. They didn't offer to comp it or rush it. Just said they would put in the order then. After almost an hour of just waiting. Sooooo we just left. Man!!! I'm just going to start out by saying that the food was good. Haha. We sat outside for about 10 minutes before the owner(according to my bf) himself came out to greet us. Super friendly and you can tell, a very hard worker man. He had an awesome Irish accent and made us both feel super welcomed. We looked at the menu and there was just a lot of things we wanted to try but I eventually ordered the Spicy Melt burger with a glass of Blue moon and my bf ordered the Chicken Pot Pie with drink in which I forgot the name of. The prices might look expensive for a pot pie but let me forewarn you, the serving size is well over the deserved amount for the price. It was huge! My spicy melt burger came not with a typical bun but sliced bread(I cant remember exactly the kind), but it was soooo good. I absolutely loved the addition of cilantro, it would not have been the same. And the spice level, finally someone got it right. It was the perfect amount of spicy for me. But you can not take spicy food that well, I don't recommend it. Oh! And the fries that came with the burger, sooooooo YUMMY!! All in all, sitting on the patio was a bonus because the weather was beautiful and you get to eat delicious food while people walk past you. Haha. read more

We were visiting for Valentines weekend and came here on a Thursday. We were greeted by Shante. She was super cool and efficient with the seating policies. We didn't even eat at this restaurant. We were completed ignored, after waiting an hour to be seated, they acted as if we were invisible, walking past us. We asked multiple times what the wait time was, and they acted as if this was rocket science. The tables cleared and there was space for us, but they never seated us. Happened to be passing thru this little city and came across this gem. To start the staff was very friendly and welcoming. Our waitress recommended a few of there popular dishes. I decided to try the corn beef with roast potatoes and veggies. Wow when she first brought it out I could believe the amount of food for the price. The portions are more then generous. The dish was excellent the corn beef was cooked just right the potatoes were also yummy and full of flavor. Defiantly a good place. read more

Where does one eat when visiting the Danish themed village of Solvang, California? Why, an Irish tavern, of course - Fitzpatrick's Tavern, on 1st St half a block South off Mission Drive, to be more specific. At least that is what my companion and I decided on a recent trip to view the beautiful spring wildflowers in the area. The dark interior of Fitzpatrick's Tavern was a cool relief after the late afternoon heat, and we weary travelers were grateful indeed. The interior is full of dark rich wood tones of the tables, backs of the booths, even the long bar that takes up one corner. The padding on the stools matches the brown tones, too. The walks are a medium range color and the lighting is low. The ceilings are covered in beautiful metallic tile with an intricate embossed design, and the lighting is subdued. It was a bright sunshiny day outside, but looking around in here it's hard to tell if it is day or night. Our waiter brings us menus and we quickly decide to split two entrees, Irish stew and fish and chips. The fish was good, golden flakey batter, not overcooked and the fries were steaming hot. But the best part of the late afternoon lunch was the Irish stew, a warm glistening rich brown base full of large chunks of tender meat, potatoes, and colorful vegetables. It was truly a thing of beauty. I can almost taste it again just writing this review. You can be certain that if we return to Solvang that we'll be back for round 2 of that stew. Kept asking us what we ordered and if it had come out yet. Took us about 45 min to get our meals. Couple next to us had to wait even longer. Let's talk about service, or lack thereof. My wife and I were trying to enjoy a day visiting Solvang, and we happened upon this restaurant for lunch. We sat down at 1:00 PM. Checked out the menu and we decided on our order (fish and chips and the Shepard's pie). The couple next to us had to grab another waiter to get their order after ours had left (we sat down at the same time) Order was placed at 1:15, after flagging down a waiter. At 1:30 I was extremely thirsty, so I went to the bar to get a couple beers, since ours never came, no big deal. At 2:00, I checked on the status of our order and the bartender said there was no record of our order, so my wife and I left. The couple next to us left too. 50 minutes wasted for nothing. It's actually hard to find a place that serves regular meals and cocktails in Solvang. Lots of beer and wine only. Although Fitzpatrick's doesn't have a full bar, they have some really tasty signature drinks. I had the Shenanigans Citrus Cooler and the Malarky Mule, both really good. The customer service is awesome...our waiter/bartender was super attentive even though he had to take care of several customers on his own. I would describe the food choices here as comfort food and sooo good. We ordered the Shepard's Pie, Tempeh Sandwich and the Spicy Melt with the veggie patty. So glad they offered a Vegan option. For desert my son went for the fried pumpkin pie and it was delicious. Perfect serving and perfect ending to a satisfying meal. read more

I've been here a few times over the years but not in about 5 years or so. This place is amazing! Owner is from Canada so does some great things to blend a traditional Irish menu with a few Canadian things like Poutine (which my hubs ordered and I though would be so gross-fries with grilled onions, cheese and gravy) but it was such a great pleasure food! Also everything is pretty much handmade here from dressings to sauces. I was kinda boring and ordered the wings but they weren't chinsy(sp?) AND the celery and carrots were so fresh, not all cut systematically like from.the store! It doesn't hurt that the bartender is a kilt-wearin, cocktail making machine! Love this place! read more

The service here was extremely slow for us. We waited about 10 mins until someone approached us about drinks. They took our drink and food order at the same time. Even though we only ordered waters for the drinks they still didn't arrive for another 10-15 mins when some of the entrees started coming out. The wait staff was continually checking up and servicing most other tables except ours. The prices are pretty expensive for what you get. The biggest disappointment was the $8 salad which was incredibly tiny not even enough for one person - should have only been $4. The $11 pork sliders were just ok but also very tiny. We also can't recommend the corn chowder or Mac and cheese as our friends who ordered them said they were mediocre. It then took another 10 minutes to receive our check. Overall can't really recommend this place. Maybe if you sit at the bar you can at least get faster service. read more

After drinking wine and eating pastries, my friends and I felt that something more substantial was required in our bellies. They remembered coming here upon their last visit to Solvang, and both remembered the place fondly. We entered, and were quickly greeted by Samantha, who gestured to a selection of tables by the entryway. My friends sat down at one, and I followed their lead. Samantha asked if we'd like something to start with, and I picked up the beer card. (I was the passenger in this adventure, and had a 2 hour drive back to their place to sober up from my one alcoholic cider.) I'd be okay with just one. Angry Orchard Cider was in the cheap row, so I got one of those. At this point, my friends spoke up about how wonderful and tasty and delicious the onion rings were the last time they were here. They ordered some sodas and an order of onion rings. Samantha nodded, tapped the order into her tablet, and then left. We chatted about life, happenings, and I complained about my earlier 6am overtime at work. It stinks. Truly it does. Before too long, Samantha came back with a small tower of Onion Rings, and our drinks. She then asked if we knew what we wanted to eat. My friends ordered Dubliner burgers. Since I didn't want to order the same thing, I shifted a few burgers down and went with the 'Spicy' Melt Burger. Samantha warned me of the epic spicy levels of the Spicy Melt Burger and made sure I wanted this burger. After her repeated warnings, I was concerned, but also somewhat challenged. I assured her that I indeed wanted the burger I asked for. She punched it into her tablet, and then left again to handle some 'over there' stuff behind the bar. The Angry orchard cider was good. A bit more chatting and Samantha came back out with three cutting boards in her arms. Atop each sat a burger, and a very tiny pail of french fries. She set each one down in front of its respective ordererer. I looked at my friend's burgers, and they looked great. They were on regular buns, and looked quite tasty. Mine was on sourdough bread. Not a Sourdough bun, but...bread. It kinda looked like it was a burger that was wearing a great big sombrero while also dancing the Mexican hat dance. But, it had jalapeños, cheese, bacon and assorted salad-type items on it. Bacon makes it really difficult to hate anything for more than a few microseconds. We dug into our meals. The fries were decent, and it did take me a few moments to figure out how to attack the burger. Once I did, and after a few bites of bread, I eventually hit meat. The Jalapeños were roasted, which cuts their heat a lot. The multiple spicy warnings I had received weren't really necessary, as I barely tasted them. But it was a decent burger overall. Samantha came over and we chatted. She remembered my friends from their last visit, and they reminisced about the time that had passed since then. I inquired about a street I had seen on the way in "Painted Cave Road" and she had no idea what it was. I let her know I'd research and get back to her. As they conversed, I got up to use the restroom. Turns out the bathroom was outside the building, down a hallway, when you get to the bathroom door, you need to punch in a super secret code (I forget it at this point) and then you may access the bathroom. I'd imagine using their bathroom would be super challenging if I was really drunk. But it was clean and pleasant. No complaints from me. I returned from the bathroom, and we sat, ate and chatted about our day, our lives and our future plans of adventure. After a little while, we decided it was time to go, and after paying the bill we bid adieu to Samantha, and then left. Overall this is a neat little place in downtown Solvang. If back, I'm pretty sure I'll skip the 'spicy' melt. But I'm honestly not sure if I'll be back. Solvang has lots of choices to see and eat. But this place definitely gets at least a thumb up from me. read more

Just happen to stop here for lunch and loved it! Really small cute environment the bartender was really nice and great drink prices. Plus they had Flogging Molly playing which is way up in my book! New owner took over in October. Talk about an upgrade, food was absolutely delicious. So fresh, so flavorful! It's rare to come across a pub that serves actual real, fresh quality pub food. I had the philly cheesesteak and my husband had the burger. Both of us were so impressed with the quality of ingredients. Bun from Solvang bakery, so fresh and perfectly accented the seasoned meat and melting provolone cheese. Best Cheesesteak I've had in years. Now on the the beer, the new owner knows how to pour a perfect Guinness (a rare trear in our Millennial age). Just 5 stars all around, food/drinks/atmosphere and service! We used to be regulars here but the ownership changed a while back and sadly, the quality of the food has regressed. This used to be a, "farm to table" eatery but the once-delectable grass - fed beef burgers are now clearly made from a lower quality beef. Go back to what once made you great! read more

The four of us went for a beer this afternoon. To be honest, we were a little apprehensive because of previous bad reviews. What a pleasant surprise to find this gem of an Irish Pub.
