A friend of mine went to school at UMass Amherst and introduced me to this restaurant. It's a more upscale version of a homey college bar, and he swears by the food. We had the Gorgonzola Garlic Bread, which was out of this world. Think soft garlic rolls swimming in a gloriously pungent gorgonzola cream sauce and you have this garlic bread. I love my stinky cheeses, so I was wiping up every bit of that delicious sauce with my fork, ensuring none of it went to waste. For my entree, I got the BLT, which was indeed packed with bacon and featured a really lovely roasted garlic mayo. Towards the more bacon-packed ends, it got to be a little too salty, but as a bacon-lover, I really enjoyed it all the way through. The fries were just average. My friends all got burgers and enjoyed their food as well. I'd definitely come back if I was ever in the area. It's bar food done well in a really cozy environment. read more

Look...the place itself is....quirky, sensory overload. But DAMN...the clam chowder is SO. Freaking. GOOD. Maybe I just haven't had good 'chowdah' in a while... but dayum. Baked potato fritters with sriracha dipping sauce? Also good. Reuben, kosher dill pickle and ridonculously good potato salad? Also. Really. Good. Also tried the not-so-'spicy' Caesar salad with chicken (not sure if it was their attempt at blackened/Cajun style to go with the 'spicy' Caesar, but it was a little dry & charred. Still, at least they appear to make their own dressing, and I'm a sucker for homemade Caesar. So, all in all way better than I was expecting given the kitschy Bennigans-and-local-tavern-had-a-baby atmosphere. read more

I find Fitzwilly's to be unremarkable. That's not necessarily a bad thing. Their food is good, just not outstanding. The service has always been very good, but not enough to overcome the feeling of "meh" when I eat here. I know I will get a nice meal competently made. The cost is typical for Northampton. The atmosphere is kind of loud. They seem to do a good bar business. You won't be disappointed if you eat here. But you won't be overly impressed, either. read more

I'm not quite sure what they are trying to do with their decor, but I'm a fan of their food and service, and quite honestly, that's really all that matters when it comes down to it for me, an out-of-towner looking for a good meal during a short stay. I enjoyed my seafood stuffed mushrooms, though not really sure if I totally dug the Swiss cheese topping (but certainly didn't mind it overall.) Had a delicious pasta dish with proscuitto and asparagus and a light cream sauce, and while it did not hold a candle to its likeness at an Italian restaurant, it certainly held its own. The menu is diverse and fun and nothing is too expensive or outlandish. I would highly recommend it to anyone such as myself who is planning on passing through the area and needs a good place to sit down and eat and take a break for a bit. read more

JT and I stopped at Fitzwilly's at the tail end of our Labor Day weekend. The place wasn't overly packed, the bar area was definitely hopping, but the restaurant is actually pretty sizable so the area we were shown to (the window seats around the corner from the main bar (by the second bar) was half full. The menu is all over the place...BBQ, Mexican, American, Italian...pick your poison. I went with a shaved steak burrito and my husband went with the "I Love BBQ" Combo Platter (which included 1/4 rack of St. Louis ribs, 1/4 smoked chicken and beef brisket with fries). My burrito wasn't bad, it just wasn't good. The shaved steak was like Steak'Ums to me. It was just too dry. The rice ratio was overwhelming to everything else in the burrito and it just didn't satisfy. I ate about half of it and gave up. In terms of the BBQ platter, my husband said the ribs weren't too bad, but they were slathered with so much sauce that it made them near impossible to eat without dumping it on yourself. The chicken was a disappointment. Though it wasn't overcooked, the skin was soggy and gelatinous. Not an appetizing bite at all. Just take the skin off if you aren't going to make sure it's crispy. The brisket was dry. I tried a bite of the corn bread that came with and spit it out. The texture was off and it tasted like playdough. The server was nice and efficient. She didn't hover and she came around when we needed her. The space was pretty dark (where we were at least) and the many decorations, while interesting to look at, needed a good dusting. To sum things up, while I'm sure that the plentiful menu does offer some gems, we did not unearth those on this visit and as such, I don't think we'd plan on coming back. read more

Ok food, neat atmosphere. I like sitting in the window (to the left of the front door as your in front of the building) or upstairs which is very cozy and intimate. Burgers are average, salads are ok, sandwiches are generally tasty but if you're looking for classy or exceptional this probably isn't your best bet. We've had great experiences with a couple of waitresses who have been really chatty (in a good way) and personable and attentive. Good if you're with a group who just wants lunchy American fare and/or drinks. read more

One of my best buds grew up close to Northampton so I usually go home with him once or twice a year as a little city get-away. We were doing just that last week, and although we both fancy ourselves decent cooks and were cooking all weekend, we ventured out for 1 meal and landed here. The menu is quite extensive and there is also a very deep microbrew list. We went for lunch and each got a sandwich. I had a grilled chicken with a fatty portobello and roasted red peppers on focaccia. He had the pulled bbq pork with coleslaw on top. Both were solid. Service was good and the atmosphere is typical of an arty college town. I saw a few entree's go by and was happy I just went with the sandwich. Whenever I'm passing through the Northampton area I make a point to stop at FitzWilly's. I've introduced several people to the restaurant over the years. FitzWilly's has been great at hosting a large group 3 times, the upper level is perfect for it. Parking would be the only downside here. The best appetizer that is worth the trip is their Gorgonzola & Garlic Bread. I will be very depressed if they ever stop serving that. read more

I am hesitant to give this pub 3 stars and am only doing so because the service was excellent. Everything else was sub par. I had the fish tacos and I've eaten better food at a drive thru chain. This place used to be really good but seems to have gone downhill. The children's menu serves $6 Kraft Mac and cheese. I'm a fan of Fitzwilly's. I've had a good meal every time I've come, which is a lot. The decor (or lack thereof) definitely leaves something to be desired, but, eh, it's easily overlooked. Definitely get the buffalo shrimp if you come here. They're terrific. Like buffalo wings, but shrimp. SO good. Now I'm craving it...great. I've had a ton of things on the menu, nothing specifically stands out, but I've always left a happy and satisfied customer. The service is always fine, nothing outstanding, but not bad either. I stopped at Fitzwilly's for the first time in years. I ordered the steak tips. They were extremely good. My biggest gripe is with the bar. We ordered cocktails and I swear there was little to no alcohol in that shizz. I'm no big drinker, and get buzzed very easy, and after drinking a giant cocktail, I could neither taste the alcohol or felt any effect. When I told the server, she was like "well, you want it to taste good right". Sorry, but I didn't ask to substitute pineapple juice for booze. When I order an expensive cocktail I expect some quality alcohol portion in my drink. Someone seriously needs to talk to the bar staff. Next time I will go to the tunnel bar, before eating dinner. read more

Solid food... Drinks disappointingly weak. To reference properly I should note I'm a lightweight. Generally 2 to 3 mix drinks is my max. So when I have 2 mix drinks ($20). I expect at least a buzz. Rip off alert there big time. Can't imagine there was more than a half ounce of liquor in each drink. I'm sure they are making bank off of it though. So more power to them. I just won't waste any money on anything but a beer there in the future in regards to alcohol.... read more

This was my old stomping ground a few years back and I have many great memories there but those all included alcohol and only the occasional munchies. From what I remembered, the food was decent but nothing special. A lot of food that was "freezer to fryer" but I went a couple of days ago and got the sliders and they were really good. In terms of selection for food, it is a little selective. But I do enjoy the sweet chili sauce Brussels sprouts. Those are delicious! Crispy, a little bit sweet, a little bit salty, and extremely tasty. I like to order different things for my main meal, but I do like their meatloaf. I'm not a huge gravy fan, so usually I scrape their's off. The meatloaf is good and dense. can make 2 meals! I take one slice home and eat the other. I am left satisfied with each meal. Their dessert is also pretty good. Parking is a hit or miss. there is a structure a few blocks away. Parking is free for the first hour, and it is doable to park there, walk to Fitz's, eat, and make it back. There is also street parking, and i think after 5pm parking behind the area is available. But it does get full quickly. read more

Had the rehearsal dinner for a wedding booked here (about a year in advance). Called the week before to confirm arrival time to find out they had "double booked" the event space and would not be accommodating us. They were extremely rude, despite the fact that they were very much at fault. We now have to contact the entire guest list a week before the wedding with a new location, as if there isn't already enough stress involved in the final days before a wedding. Most of the people on the guest list are local, so Fitzwilly's just lost a lot of regular customers. Shame on you for handling this as poorly as you did. read more

the service was great and fast.... the food... we ordered the buffalo wings as our appetizer and once i bit in..they were kind of slimey... wasn't a fan at all... for the entree, i ordered the "wicked alfredo" it was very creamy and delicious. i've order it before.... my bf ordered the "porky burger".... he hated it... said the patty was under flavored, the toppings that came on it made the burger sort of cold...... mainly, avoid the wings here. staff was friendly and drinks were good! read more

For my first time trying out this "must goto" place I have to say I'm rather unimpressed. Got steak tips and substituted for mashed potatoes on the side. For $22 I was expecting a decent amount of meat and was greeted to just 6 small tips and what looks like half of what should have been an order of mashed potatoes. Its like I got the kids meal for the adult price. My friend got the southern fried chicken and I think that chicken was a real troublemaker because it was beaten and breaded to the point that it was dry and hurt to chew. For visiting what locals said was a hip/go-to place I was sadly disappointed and felt KFC would have been a better choice. read more

I will admit it was the weekend, but when I walked in and was told there was 'at least' a 45-minute wait to get seated I went elsewhere - too hungry to wait! Of course, a packed restaurant tells you the food must be good. I returned about a week later on a quiet Monday night. We ordered the Thai chicken roll-ups on the Bibb lettuce, and it was delicious - but we were confused how one was supposed to 'roll' them up! A lot of sauce running all over the plate. We finally cut it into pieces and ate with a fork - seemed too runny for a 'roll-up' - but they were delicious. I ordered the Cuban sandwich - which is NOT a Media Noche since this was grilled and not pressed. It was delicious! A large portion, so I took the remainder home. My companion ordered the meatloaf (wrapped in bacon) sandwich - it was also very delicious! We had won a free appetizer so we ordered the chocolate brownie - a very good end to a good meal. Fitzwilly's is either hit or miss. During my most recent trip, got a great appetizer and lunch: the turkey pot pie was SO good! However, during another visit here, got the salad with cranberry sauce and turkey. Multiple pieces of turkey had huge chunks of dribbly fat and grizzle... yuck. How can you miss that? Overall, I like Fitzwilly's but I think they need to improve kitchen staff. read more

My husband and I have been frequent diners at FitzWillys over the years anytime we visit the area. We were there a few nights ago and we're disappointed to see how things have changed. They are no longer serving my favorite wine and seems they have done a complete overhaul of the wine list, bringing in brands you'd expect to see at an inexpensive chain restaurant. My sandwich was fine, but nothing to write home about. We used to love their food. Consistent and quality is what we always got. I wish they'd reconsider some of the changes they've made. Unfortunately we're going to need to rethink dining there again the next time we're in town. read more

So 8 months ltr I find myself there again. I got the jambalaya. I asked if it was premixed or fresh. Was told fresh. Chicken came white no season. Shrimp no season. There was 2 small shrimps. It was white rice half mixed with tomato paste and barely cooked super crunchy celery. Came with cold cornbread with chewy jalapenos for 18 bucks. It was gross. I've never not like jal cornbread. Chilli taste better. If it had no jal would be good. The jambalaya needs season. Try sautee the chicken and shrimp in garlic, oil, Creole seasoning. Add some fresh tomato. If sending back wouldn't have ruined my bf night it would have gone back. read more
