I came here for the first time last week for OC Restaurant Week. They were offering an $85 pre fixe menu which came with a glass of wine, starter, main course and dessert. I went with the prime rib for my main course. If you didn't know, Five Crowns, is part of the Lawry family - so if you live in OC, you don't need to drive all the way to LA to get your prime rib fix. The prime rib was delicious. I ordered mine with a side of mashed potatoes and creamed spinach. However, I tried some of the cream corn and it was soooo good!! Came to Five Crowns for my birthday dinner, August 5th. We got married here in 2022 (which I would highly recommend to anyone). We had a 6:30 reservation and got there early. We were sat almost immediately. We had Mark and Juan and the service was amazing. The ambiance of the restaurant is so warm and inviting. I got the salmon and creamed corn. My husband got filet mignon and the cremini mushrooms. The meal was sooooo amazing. For dessert we had the trifle and banana cream pie....... 10/10. read more

Decided to come here for OC restaurant week and we were not disappointed! Parking is readily available across the street or you can pay 8$ for valet. The ambiance inside was dark, but nice. Our server was fantastic as she always stopped by to check up on us. Onto the food and drinks! We got their wine pairing suggestion with the prefixed menu, but I decided to get their taro alcoholic drink (forgot the name), but it was delicious! Their hamachi and grilled octopus was great as well. My fiancé went with their prime rib (pretty delicious and soft) while I went with their wagyu sirloin (nothing to write home about, but the fries were good). We also got their sundae, but once again, I went and ordered an additional warm butter cake which was fantastic. Overall, it was a great spot to try! read more

I have been to the Five Crowns 3 times in the past two years. It's a bit of a drive from my home, but is worth the drive. The old style decor of the restaurant is warm and cozy feeling. I always get the Henry VIII cut and it always comes out perfect for my liking. The service is always top notch and the restaurant is clean and located in a nice clean location. I have never seen dogs in the restaurant, which is a plus, and hope that dogs will never be allowed inside. That is a negative dining experience for me due to the fact dogs are dirty and I don't care to have them around my food. All of my servings were good sized and all servers were friendly with lots of smiles. It has always been a pleasant dining experience, especially after working up an appetite at the local beach. read more

We came for a graduation dinner and it was great! The bread was great and came with flaky salt that paired great. The prime rib was also great and came with some sides. It is perfectly cooked and super tender. It took an hour for our entrees to be out, but understandable since it's a packed graduation night. I've been a fan of Lawry's for decades. I was extremely excited to try Five Crowns when I was visiting friends that live in the area Service and Ambiance: You get that British old school steakhouse kind of vibe complete with dark wood furnishings throughout and fireplaces. We had some cocktails at the nice full service bar prior to seating. The service at the bar was friendly and the servers that took care of us through dinner were attentive and friendly. The kitchen was quick with getting our dishes to the table. I'm a big Prime Rib fan the Crown Cut (medium rare) was amazing. Juicy and cooked perfectly. This was definitely my current Prime Rib champ for 2022. All the sides we had were on point! Crab Cakes - great way to kick off your meal Calamari - Crispy and tasty Salad - Fresh Creamed Corn - My favorite side dish with prime rib. lovely here. Garlic Whipped - So good with a the perfect amount of garlic. I'm glad I was able to check out Five Crowns. I'll be looking for another opportunity to dine here sooner vs later. Cheers! read more

First this place is way too small. It's very cute and I know it's a historic building. It was crazy crowded and we had dinner reservations for 7:30 in the main restaurant. We got there at 6:30 thinking we could get a drink from the bar area first. We quickly realized that was not possible. A bunch of guests were standing everywhere in the lobby and bar area. There's not enough room for anything. So we put our name down for the bar area and we ending sitting 15 mins before our dinner reservations. The bar area had a table for 4 sitting empty the entire hour we were over there. There were people waiting I don't know why it was never utilized. At 7:30 we talk to the host and we don't sit down for dinner until basically 8pm. The waiter was fine but he seemed a little to relaxed or out of it , it was ok but slightly weird. So we know the food and drinks are expensive, so that's no surprise. Most of us order the prime rib. That California cut piece of prime rib was about 4in across and super thin. It was the biggest rip off. Never again will I go there. I don't understand why the thin slice of meat could at least be slightly thicker. It was very disappointing and underwhelming. The food isn't amazing and the service was just ok. The reservations suck and it's just WAY too crowded. Anyways never going back. Huge waste of money. read more

Overall, we had a fabulous holiday evening celebrating at Five Crowns! Our server, who I sadly can't recall his name, went above and beyond and helped make our experience feel 5-star. As well, the carolers were fabulous and made the evening feel magical. I asked for them to sing Mariah Carey's All I Want for Christmas, and the lead female was next level...all of them were amazing! And if you've never been to Five Crowns during the holidays, I highly recommend it! They do a fabulous job with the decor, and it creates such a cozy and welcoming celebratory environment. Then, of course, the food and drinks. Other than two hiccups, everything was spot on! We had martinis, oysters, Pride of the Crown Salad, Prime Rib all around, Banoff pie, and chocolate soufflé. With the exception of the oysters, which were dry and flavorless, everything else was on point and delicious! Sadly, I do have a critique that brought our experience down enough that had it been our first time, we would not have returned. When the runner brought our prime rib, our son was served a very disappointing slice. Not only was it not the temperature that he ordered, but it looked significantly smaller than my aunt's California cut (more like what I would imagine the Tokyo cut should be), and he had ordered the crown cut. We immediately told the gentleman it couldn't be right, but he said no, they're all weighed. Our server popped in at that time and agreed it couldn't be right, and he'd make sure to remedy it. The manager came, and this was the most disappointing. She argued that they're all weighed and it must be right! We spent over $800 that night on food and drinks for 4 people. For an establishment of this level, I have NEVER had a manager respond this way. They are typically good at customer service. With reluctance, she brought it back to weigh it, then came back with a proper cut and temperature and quickly, under her breath, said it was underweight and ran off. Are you kidding me!?!? We were there on Wednesday, December 3rd, for reference, @ 6:30. She has no business having employment there! read more

Went to five crowns for a special occasion and was happy with the overall experience. Everyone from the staff was welcoming and smiley. Our server, Ms. Vicky(?) was charming. She shared with us a bit of fun facts about the restaurant and the history of the delicious hot freshly baked sourdough bread. For dinner, we opted for for the famous prime ribs. The cuts are generous but they had more fat than other places we've been to. Seasoning and the tenderness were top notch. We loved that we had the au jus on the side to add to the ribs. Their drinks were good. Our favorite was the spring fling (for anyone who loves strawberry, lemon, and lychee, this is your drink). I've been coming here my whole life. I've probably eaten here a couple of hundred times, most recently on Mother's Day. Always great food. On Mother's Day, they saw fit to put table cloths on the tables again. It really dressed the place up and made it look the way it used to. For the life of me, I don't understand why they felt the need to dumb it down and make it casual rather than the fine dining restaurant it used to be. The whole thing has basically been turned into one big gastro pub with no dress code or high standards of anything. On Mother's Day, the table service was very unprofessional by people who clearly don't have any fine dining experience. I really wish this restaurant would get its act together and go back to what it used to be. read more

My husband and I have been coming here for years for consistent delicious food. I love the crab cake and Caesar salad. I usually get the California cut and it never disappoints. We usually end with the chocolate soufflé which we love and is not overly sweet. Service is great and the decor in the restaurant is so cute. Highly recommend. Spend your money elsewhere... that is the takeaway from this review. I am only giving it 2 stars because the ambiance is charming and that particular night they had carolers. The food is okay, and for this price (over $340 for a family of 5 with 2 kids meals) you should expect it to be at least above average.. We went here for the Prime Rib and there simply is nothing special about it, or anything else they offer here. Our waiter made several mistakes, some of which were understandable and some were not. He forgot one of our appetizers and when we brought it up after our main meals were served, he deflected the blame onto us asking if we ordered that earlier. When he gave us the bill, we noticed he charged us for 2 kids' drinks, which should have come included. When I brought it up, again he said, "oh actually the kid's meals only come with milk." When I pointed to the menu, which said milk and soft drinks, his response was, "oh so it does." before going to correct the bill. I also left my credit card with the bill when I handed it to him to get corrected. When he brought back the corrected bill, my credit card wasn't there. I asked him where it was, and he confidently said, "you didn't give me a credit card." I told him I'm positive I provided it with the bill, and I even checked my wallet, pockets, and surroundings to make sure. He said he'd go check again, in a tone that came off as, I'm sure you didn't give it to me but I'll check if it'll make you happy. Moments later he returns and mumbled under his breath, "oh it was actually on the floor" (he dropped it). No apology for the misunderstanding, not even a farewell and have a nice evening. Just plopped down the check and moved on. I would say some of this is more forgivable if it was a very busy night or he was overloaded with tables, but from what we saw, he had maybe 2-3 tables aside from ours and this was right as they opened. read more

If you're craving prime rib and you're in the OC, this is the spot for it. Definitely a lot closer than driving all the way to Lawry's in LA! (And it's the same thing, isn't it?) You can either park in their lot with a valet, or park on the street. The several times I've been here, I've been able to find parking on the street with no problem. All the times I've been here I had the prime rib, and my dining companions had the fish dishes. Do NOT get the fish dishes! They are decent tasting, but Five Crowns is more well known for their prime rib. The cuts are pretty large and the au jus is super flavorful. The souffle dessert is amazing and recommended! Service is good overall. When one of the waitstaff took my leftovers to pack, they accidentally threw away my side, so they packed me a fresh side free of charge. read more

Came here for a Xmas eve dinner for my son's birthday. We had managed to snag a reservation one month ago and it was not easy. Even with a reservation we still had to wait about 25 minutes as they were backed up. However the service from the lovely and personable Ronnie made up for it, and our prime rib, and lobster bisque were excellent. I am still amazed at how energetic and kind she was after being on her feet for so long.We are Lawrys VIP members and service is always a hit and miss I feel, but tonight, on the busiest of nights, service was amazing. I finally had the pleasure of dining at this beautiful restaurant after seeing it for years!! The building is a replica of a one of England's oldest inns. It's charming both inside and out. We met another family for dinner and enjoyed taking pictures outside in the pretty garden areas. Our dinner was delicious! Our group of 8 all loved the prime rib. It was tender, well seasoned and cooked perfectly. I loved my thin medium rare English cut prime rib. The chocolate soufflé was a sweet ending to our dinner. If you like lawrys, you'll love this place! Prime rib is amazing here and their drinks and wine menu is among the best in Orange County. The staff here is extremely helpful and the service is surprisingly fast. The prices themselves are decent - especially compared to the other restaurants in the lawrys portfolio though they don't serve the beef bowl cut regularly. They sont have the spinning salad either but they have a much larger selection of appetizers! If you want a great prime rib though, you'll want to keep coming back to this place! read more

Decided to try this English steakhouse on a Friday evening. Made a reservation online the same day and got seated shortly after arriving. What stood out immediately was the vibe and ambiance. It felt like walking into a English castle and pub. The restaurant is a majority of the space but they have a nice bar area called the Side Door and it was very lively all night. Parking can be found if you look hard enough in the residential area or Main Street. Otherwise there's valet across the restaurant. Service was superb and all the hosts/waiters were extremely welcoming, attentive, and helpful. Definitely gives you the fine dining experience. Food was good, no complaints but I can't say I was mine blown. We ordered the English Cut and Henry VIII. The Henry was as thick and big as expected at 28 oz! Great quality meat and I have to say the asparagus and calamari we got on the side were impressive. Highly recommend going with one of their signature prime ribs. We have been coming to the Five Crowns on our anniversary for 45 years to the day without fail. Except for the year you were closed for Covid. Broke our streak . It was sooo excellent in the past . We are some of the "Old Timers" that were not happy when your changed your restaurant format. For several years you've slipped and have not been as good as before. Last year's anniversary was good again. Not the same but good. We have celebrated graduations, weddings, and anniversaries at your restaurant and hopefully will continue to do so. We hosted our son's 100 days celebration here and it exceeded our expectations in every way. We worked with Alison to coordinate the event and she made the whole process seamless and was great to communicate with from start to finish. We had the event in the garden patio area and the ambiance was perfect. All the staff were incredibly attentive and service was amazing. We came here for dinner. Lucky for us this place had tables available. Plenty of parking across the street. The staff was super friendly. We had Tim servicing our table. He was so knowledgeable about the dishes, the food's sources and the wine. It made a big difference to us. His recommendations were exquisite. Our appetizer was the Ahi Crudo (basically poke). It was marinated so well. I had the fillet mignon and it was also perfection. My friend had the salmon, which was good except its farm raised and despite the great seasoning, well we could tell. I've been going to the Five Crowns since high school senior prom in 1968. Over the years my family and I have really enjoyed dining there several times each year - especially once, or most often twice, every holiday season with the Christmas carolers. But several years ago something changed...drastically. It became a mere shadow of what it had been. To be honest, we have really missed the Five Crowns and weren't expecting very much. BUT....TONIGHT....it's obvious that the Five Crowns is back!! Our servers Mark and Pretty Ricky were awesome! We never had a chance to ask for anything because it was always there before we even asked. The food was like it was years ago. We started out with the shrimp cocktail. Sometimes shrimp is sorta glossy or mushy. Sometimes it's good. But, if you like shrimp cocktail, I'm sure you know what i mean when I say that just every once in a while you have huge, perfect shrimp. They were unbelievable. I said to my wife, "Well, I hope the rest of the dinner is as good as this." And it was! The Carolers sang... well, it brought me back to when we used to take our kids and our entire family there during the holidays over the past several decades. This group of carolers were absolutely impeccable, funny, friendly. They even sang Santa Baby, The Christmas Song and Rockin' Round the Christmas Tree for me by request. Ate here tonight and wow what a disappointment. Their poritons have shrunk SO much. We ordered two of the largest cuts of prime rib and wow it really honestly could've been the smallest cut. The Five Crowns is a very special place because we celebrate the anniversary of our first date very year we can get there. There have been occasions where the food was just not up to par, the environment and temperature uncomfortable and the service just not up to what we expected. This time, our experience was the Best we have had in recent memory. Everything was perfect from the table for 2 in a quiet corner, to excellent, attentive perfect service with Shelly who has been there as long as we have been coming and her trainee Patty. Shelly adjusted the door that made it breezy an noisy so the atmosphere was perfect. The Prime Rib with Yorkshire pudding, creamed corn and spinach were perfectly prepared. Shelly reminisced with us about Tommy the long time sommelier who retired a few years back because of Alzheimer's. Madison was kind enough to give us his current address so we could visit him. According to their website, "Five Crowns is a charming replica of one of England's oldest country inns and a Corona Del Mar landmark steakhouse." I tend to agree and this restaurant happens to be one of my personal fave spots for prime rib. It's also a great venue to celebrate special events like holidays and birthdays. My recent visit was for a personal birthday celebration. I started the meal with a specialty cocktail dubbed The Sinner's Sour - Elijah Craig bourbon, Singani 63 brandy, lemon juice and port wine float served on a perfect cube. The port wine is served on the side, so the bartender recommended drinking it both before and after pouring in the port wine to enjoy two distinctly different flavors. It's tradition at Five Crowns to start each table off with freshly baked sourdough bread that is nothing short of divine. The roasted prime rib is what made Lawry's famous, so it makes total sense to go with their biggest cut - the 23 oz Henry VIII! Besides a whole lotta meat, this entree also includes Yorkshire pudding, au jus, horseradish, and choice of two sides. You really can't go wrong with any of their sides, but IMO the creamed corn and mashed potatoes are spectacular. Near the end of our meal, Turi, our exceptional and hospitable server, presented the birthday boy with a complimentary dessert which we believed was a strawberry trifle. It's a memorable dining experience every time we visit Five Crowns or any of Lawry's restaurants, so come see for yourself! read more

Disappointed. We made a reservation for a party of 9 for outdoor dining over a week ago. The person who took the reservation over the phone was very nice and assured us that at 4:30 p.m., we would have no issue dining outside. We emphasized that this was important because one of our guests is immunocompromised (but very excited to dine here), and they acknowledged and understood the importance of this request. Fast forward to the day of the reservation: we arrived to find a wedding party occupying the entire outdoor area, and we were told they could only accommodate us indoors. They had texted back and even called to confirm our reservation, but never once mentioned that a wedding would be there, taking up all the outdoor seating. It's surprising this wasn't mentioned when we made the reservation weeks ago. We were very, very disappointed. This is not the way to treat guests. We had to scramble to make alternate plans, and fortunately, we were able to find a new location. There was no apology when we informed them we were leaving -- just an indifferent "OK." read more

Unless you want four bites of tasteless raw meat for $69.00 I'd give this place a big miss. The Crown Cut had a 2" bone with 1/4" of undercooked meat. One order was so raw, not rare, it was literally cold! I couldn't eat after seeing it. I ordered the Crown Cut (most popular) and it was tasteless and undercooked. I ordered medium well and it was very rare to the point of being giggly. The third person in our party exchanged her roast beef for a sandwich, nuff said. We were all hungry after the dinner so we ordered desert; we normally wouldn't. The waiter recommended the ice cream Sunday and it was awful. This restaurant has gone so far downhill it's really a shame. We still left hungry. read more

This is the venue/restaurant I recommend to wedding clients who want to enjoy their special day in a more intimate setting. The food and service are both remarkable. The different available spaces are stunning and full of character. I love the red accents! Valet parking across the street is helpful, especially in such a busy area. All around, Five Crowns is an excellent choice to celebrate weddings and events! Tip: Botanica Floral across PCH offers gorgeous arrangements should you need a florist for your celebration.
