We were in the backyard area for a wedding reception. The doors were let open and the space really flows. The place is classy. I love the old British décor with solid dark wood. Ambiance is so elegant yet cozy. We sat near the garden windows at night, there were little candles lit. Service was wonderful. Attentive but not too much. All courses of the dinner service was so delicious. Everything was fresh, well cooked, and definitely makes you want to come back to try other dishes. Patty, I think that was her name, provided just the right amount of attention. We ordered two Caesar salads but had mine with the herbes de Provence dressing which is very yummy! Not good. Ordered the "surf & turf" for $95. Other two guests ordered other things. The salad was a split (should not have been, but the server confirmed as much). There should have been 2 full salads (one ordered a la carte and one with the surf and turf). The prime rib with the S&T should have been a crown cut, ordered medium rare. Instead, it was more like a California cut, well done. The mashed potatoes were stale- not creamy at all. The lobster was good as was the creamed corn. We had a dinner with friends and our children there last night and thankfully had Steve as our server. Not only was he knowledgeable about every drink and dinner course we asked about but he was very gracious and kind to us and our small children. We had a party of 4 adults and two children and it was our first time there at 5 Crowns. We were a lot but he was so patient with us and went out of his way to make sure our first visit was memorable. The food was AMAZING! My husband had cocktails and I got to enjoy their mocktails. The strawberry squeeze was delicious! Angelina, the manager, greeted us and took the time to speak with us. Most places the staff zooms past you but not at 5 Crowns & definitely now when you are cared for by Steve with Angelina available as well. She even had the carolers come to our table! It was such a beautiful moment for our 4 year old daughter who loves to sing. The restraint and the pride their staff have for their establishment is truly nice to witness. The food was so good! My humans had prime rib of course which they specializes in and I had the Branzino. So delicious ! Oh if you have children don't forget to get a bizzy bag! Last night, after a few years absence, we returned for dinner to what had always been one of Orange County's best special occasion restaurants. What a disappointment! In years past, upon entering the restaurant, we were warmly greeted by a gracious manager, such as Phil Crowley. Not anymore! The dining room always sparkled with freshly pressed white tablecloths. Not anymore. We were always welcomed by a warm and friendly sommelier (Tommy), regardless of whether we wanted wine or not. Not anymore! We always enjoyed the wonderful bread basket with three or more freshly baked breads. Not anymore! The bread basket contained three or four slices of very mediocre sourdough bread with a disposable plastic cup of butter! Cocktails were fine, but at $23 each ($30 with tax and tip) were vastly overpriced. Most importantly, the food was really quite mediocre. The salad was simply OK. The Crown cut of prime rib was good, but not overly generous and was quite fatty. A small disposable plastic cup of horseradish and a very dried out Yorkshire pudding accompanied it. At least equivalent, (perhaps better) prime rib can be had elsewhere in OC for almost $20 less (Brü Grill And Market in Lake Forest, for example). The Five Crowns is currently just a shadow of its past. What was always a dress-up, special occasion, fine dining restaurant, is now an extremely overpriced very mediocre restaurant. Think twice before choosing FC for a celebration dinner. Very sad, indeed. read more

The prime rib cut like BUTTER. The warm au jus was amazing alongside their creamy horseradish! Yorkshire pudding was light & crisp! We also ordered the lobster Mac & cheese which didn't disappoint! For a start we had a Martini and Queen Bee which was whiskey, allspice dram, lemon and honey. Delicious! The Prime Ribs were quite the highlight at Five Crowns and I am not surprised. Went to their burger tasting event and was happily surprised. I have been dining here (and at Lawrys) since I was little but have never really come to an event like this. It's typically for special occasions with my family. This was hosted in the beautiful patio outside the five crowns side of the building. They had a table of samples where you could taste the three burgers and cast your vote. Then you could order your full size burger (came with delicious French fries) and you got a beer in a custom souvenir Side door glass tumbler! The food was delicious, my personal favorite was burger #2 but they were all really good. I liked the communal style of seating; it was great to meet new people and it was a nice sense of community. We ordered the Calif. Cut prime rib dinners, after reviewing their menu on the web. The pic showed a reasonably thick piece, but just a little smaller portion. Perfect for us. What we got was pancake thin, and undercooked, my wife sent hers back to kitchen. Side dishes were mediocre. Then halfway through our desert, the waiter came up to us with the portable pay terminal...we're still working on 1/2 glasses of wine and 1/2 desert...didn't seem to matter. What a disappointment! Came on Mother's Day and was not disappointed. We had reservations for 4:45PM but the place was PACKED (it was Mother's Day after all). We ended up finding street parking, but there is a valet across the restaurant that will park your car for you. It took maybe 15 minutes for us to get seated. Btw, if you're coming with a baby, only the woman's bathroom has a changing table. That was a bit disappointing for me since it was Mother's Day and I wanted my husband to change the baby, lol. Overall, we had a good time - the food came out pretty promptly after we ordered. If anything, the bread took the longest to come out but it was being freshly baked. We opted for the biggest cuts of prime rib (Henry VIII) and thought we wouldn't finish them, but we did. The Henry cut comes with the prime rib on the bone, which of course adds onto the weight. We got ours medium rare and it came out perfect. The au jus was piping hot and smelled heavenly when it arrived at the table. You also get the option of raw horseradish or creamy to pair with your food. They also serve Lawry's seasoned salt and pepper, but we opted for fresh cracked pepper from the pepper mill instead. 5 Crowns visit on Friday 4/25/25 for our wedding anniversary was disappointing in a couple of ways. My wife got the idea of going there from an online ad she saw for a special, this weekend(4/25-4/27) only, Akaushi Beef Prime Rib Special with listed higher pricing for 3 different sizes offered; higher prices than the normal prime rib 5 Crowns lists on the menu and say it is so good. Reservation was made for when they opened at 4:30 and when our server, Nick, read off the specials he did not mention this one so I showed him the ad on my phone. He went to go check as he said "..this was not mentioned in our meeting"; he came back saying yes it is being offered. My wife selected the smallest size and myself the medium. We had the lobster bisque which was about average tasting. I asked for 2 spoons and Nick replied he could put it in two bowls if we'd like; he made no mention of an extra charge for that so I agreed. Sourdough bread was good. While the Akaushi did cut smooth, I tasted no real difference over normal prime rib I've had at other high end restaurants. Cream corn and cream spinach were average though not very creamy compare to other restaurants; mashed potatoes average. Lobster mac-n-cheese just ok; seemed lacking enough lobster. Cream horseradish was good and not too strong. The Yorkshire pudding was good but I've not had that in years to remember how it compares to others. Nick suggested the Chocolate Soufflé for dessert and better for paying extra $3 for ice cream so we got that and was pretty good. This time he properly mentioned the extra charge. We had only ice tea to drink and I made an assumption NIck would get the bill right so I didn't really look it over and paid $242 plus tip for $290 total. Next morning before filing the receipt away I noticed that the prices they charged were more for each of our prime rib dinners than what was listed (see pics below) and that Nick added $4 for splitting the soup yet on the menu, it shows right there $4 for salad and $9 for entree spits; nothing about soup split charge so why did Nick charge for that and never mentioned it? I originally asked for 2 spoons like we do at other restaurants when sharing soup. I figured maybe some kind of honest mistake for the over charges on the dinners so at 4:40 pm next day(Saturday) I called and asked to speak to a manager. A man who identified himself as "Bill" came on the line and I explained about the listed price and what they charged and want this made right. He guessed some kind of price increase took place last week and website was not updated yet this is a current weekend only special not last week. I gave Bill the ticket number and my contact info and said he would see what could be done and said "I'll get back to your shortly"; I figured that meant Saturday or Sunday. It now 4 days later Tuesday the 29th and nothing from Bill so I have to figure he's just decided to ignore me and not make this right on the over charges so my review of 5 Crowns will include this lack of server knowledge on what to charge and manager not willing to make this right. We were the first to be seated at 4:30 and by 6:00 the restaurant was really full and the attached "Side Door" part was also so very full so a lot of people must like eating and socializing there. There are a lot of 5 star reviews here and maybe for some people that don't have budget concerns this policy of overcharging means nothing but for us, overall this was not the visit to a higher end restaurant we were hoping for having paid way more for a special and then having over charges not made right when brought to their attention. Had we decided to go there and order from the normal menu and paid the prices for that cut of prime rib, then our experience there getting good quality for a decent price would have been better and the issues amongst the Lawry/5 Crowns website and management not come into play. Mistakes happen and I understand that and when brought to the attention of management, those need to be recognized and made right, like I tried to do. Being ignored is not acceptable no matter how minor/low dollar. I've had minor issues at other higher end restaurants and brought to their managements attention, did make these right. Came here the other night for the girlfriend's work holiday dinner. Had one of the upstairs rooms rented out for us and decorated for the holidays. Coming in, there was an open bar offering wine to drink, but you could also request cocktails, which they would have made at the bar and brought up to you. There were two appetizers being delivered around the room prior to dinner, one was a bruschetta, which was ok, didn't stand out in any way, and the other was a crab stuffed mushroom. The crab stuffed mushrooms were cooked perfectly, with a nice softness in the mushroom with a good crab meat mix stuffed in the center. For dinner, we all started with a Caesar salad, which, hard to mess that up. For entrees, you had the choice of prime rib or Chilean sea bass. The sea bass, though dry on the outside, was very moist inside. It came with cauliflower florets and there was supposed to be a hazelnut brown butter, but I couldn't make that out of my plate at all. As for the prime rib, it was very tender and juicy, with an au jous they poured on top, that really didn't add much in terms of a flavor profile as I would have hoped. For dessert you had the code of a creme brulee or sticky toffee bread pudding. The creme brulee definitely needed more of a brulee of top as that breaking of the sugar you look for with the dessert was but there. As for the bread pudding, it was more a dense piece of bread with a whipped cream topping. Not that silky, gooey dessert you might think of. This felt like it needed a lot more love to reach its namesake. The one highlight that I can wholeheartedly recommend is one of their seasonal drinks: St. Nicks Heavenly Helper. It's a bourbon drink with a pumpkin liqueur, lemon and brown sugar. Very flavorful. I had a few people try mine and that became the drink of the night people were ordering. Overall, the seasonal cocktail was fabulous, as we're the crab stuffed mushrooms (not a normal menu item). Everything else, nothing you have to run out and try. read more

My wife and I had dinner here a couple days before Christmas. We had made reservations a couple weeks ahead, very wise, as the place was bursting at the seams with people when we arrived, most of whom were walk-ins being told it would be over an hour wait. We, however, were seated exactly at our reservation time. This Lawry's owned restaurant's decor has an Old English feel, from the red phone booth outside to the Dickens-character-dressed carolers inside (although the latter is obviously only during the holidays). Our waiter and assistants were extraordinary, providing the best service imaginable. We started off with some delicious warm dinner rolls and glasses of wine. I enjoyed a red blend by Pure Paso. We ended up ordering the exact same thing and everything was exquisite. First was the Pride Of The Crowns salad (mixed greens, bacon, toasted walnuts, Gruyere cheese, house made croutons, and herbes de Provence dressing). Our main dish was a smaller cut prime rib (the 6 oz. California Cut) which we ordered medium rare but came medium, the only minor miscue of the night. The prime rib was so tender and flavorful and I enjoyed a bit of the horseradish cream and au jus on some bites. Sides were creamed corn and mashed potatoes & gravy. I also loved what I thought was a delightful croissant but later was told I was enjoying Yorkshire pudding, something I'd never had before; I'd heard of it but had no clue. Now I'm educated. Jolly good. I was deciding between a sundae or sticky toffee bread pudding for dessert and opted for the latter as I'd never had it. It was okay, not something I'd order again. I think if it had a more pronounced toffee flavor I would have liked it more. Our experience was highly positive. We had our anniversary dinner at Five Crowns and it was GREAT. Tyler was outstanding, engaging and made the night even better with his service. We both ordered prime rib dinners with creamed corn and mashed potatoes. She got the California cut, I got the English cut. We love Lawry's prime rib on special occasions and it was our first time at Five Crowns. Warm au jus and a dash of Lawry's seasoning salt on our prime ribs are a great bite. The yorkshire pudding is also always a treat. We loved the complimentary warm bread with smooth butter and Maldon sea salt on top. So good. We added each a lobster tail to our prime rib dinners. The lobster tails with drawn butter and some lemon were delicious as usual. The sauteed mushrooms were delicious as well. We were too full to have dessert but Tyler brought us an English trifle with a candle on it for our anniversary. We really enjoyed his service and he should be commended. We added a jar of CC Brown's hot fudge to take home which we intend to have for a future sweet treat after dinner.... Five Crowns was great. The Christmas decor wasnt overdone. It was just right. We loved the carolers. We requested Little Drummer Boy and it was a lovely rendition to hear... tip them! She made our Valentines dinner very special ! Five Crowns is fortunate to have someone like Rani ! Our meals were absolutely delicious ! The best Prime Rib anywhere. The service was great, the food was excellent and the ambiance was very charming. We had a very nice time!

Hit or miss. The complimentary bread buns with butter and coarse salt was nice. The Lobster Bisque was good but could use some salt. So I sprinkled some of the coarse salt in it. The French Onion soup had a nice bold broth. But the type of cheese they used was insane. You chew it forever and it never breaks down. It's almost like chewing gum. I had to remove all of the cheese from the bowl in order to finish the soup. The Prime Rib seems to be their specialty. You can choose how thick of a cut you want. Of course I ordered it medium rare. It was pretty good. It's accompanied with a side of Au Jus, whipped horseradish, and a selection of Lawry's seasonings since this is in fact a Lawry's restaurant. Side dishes include your choice of mashed potatoes with a nice rich gravy, creamed spinach, creamed corn. The potatoes were great. The corn was great and fresh. The spinach was a big sticky lump, as though it was from yesterday. It really needed to be thinned out. I decided to cut it with some Au Jus and that helped dispell the tacky texture a bit. The chocolate souffle was a disappointment. First of all it takes 20 to 30 minutes to bake, so if you want it, you better order it the moment your entree comes out, so you don't have to wait. Finally it's kind of boring. It's not sweet enough, and it's rather dry. I would have preferred a chocolate lava cake. Apparently they also have a butter cake, which is what we should have ordered. We were happy that they had Kim Crawford wine by the bottle at a reasonable price. Service was rather slow and somewhat inattentive. read more

Five Crowns is the more bougie version of your average Lawry's across the nation. According to the server, the reason for its namesake is because this is the 5th store to open from Lawry's. Parking is across the street and you pay $8 for valet. Service could be a bit slow and you are notified that your prime rib will take 25mins to come out. Unlike Lawry's, Five Crowns does not push out the prime rib cutting cart and your food is brought to you already cut. Another difference lies in that you do not get a salad for your prime rib meal but that's not a huge concern imo. Everything tasted good, however just a bit under "salted" but you are given Lawry's signature salt and pepper on your table for your use. Imo Five Crowns is not worth a visit unless you really enjoy the decor around the restaurant. Your average Lawry's is much better imo. read more
