I went to the Five Guys in the Washington DC airport and it was the driest most cardboard like burger ever. I was reluctant to try this place but we were on a ride and wanted something fast. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the small burger (it was not small) with all toppings which included mushrooms, grilled onions, jalapenos, pickles, tomato and more! It was very juicy and tasty - so different from the Washington DC location. My hubby had the veggie sandwich and he was equally happy with his burger - lots of jalapenos and mushrooms. We order the small fries and they threw in more fries in the bag - couldn't finish it. They were hot and crispy - no complaints!! While you are waiting for your food, they have boxes of peanuts that you can munch on. It was not busy when we got there as the lunch crowd was gone. I've written a review for the Pleasant Hill location but I'll write one here since I just visited this location. Anyway, I went here because it's so close to my house but if I have to choose between In N Out or Five Guys , it's not even close. Five Guys could be 20 Guys but even if it were 4x better than it is currently, it still wouldn"t measure up. 1. I hate eating out of a bag. I asked the manager on duty, "why don't you have trays?" Manager: "our bags are made out of recycled paper." Whatever - I still think it's very wasteful to waste all those bags. Strike 1 2. You can't customize your fries like IOB. I asked for fries well and was told "We only make our fries one way." I had to take my soggy, greasy fries and pop them in the toaster oven to crisp them up. Strike 2. 3. I hate how they foil their burgers. Wrapping in foil traps in the steam and when I got home, my burger was soggy. So, the bun didn't hold up. At IOB, you can also specufy "extra toast" but no such option exists at Five. Strike 3. Other negatives: - it is very pricey for what you get. 3 little burgers, 1 large fries, and a shake was 25. For that price, I better be able to customize all I want! - Five's customer service line doesn't exist. I have called and emailed but never received responses. With IOB, I have always been able to get a hold of a live person and they always insured a pleasant experience. I think Five should spend less time extolling its accolades and spend more time listening to its customers. When you are the best, the product speaks for itself and you don't need to plaster your walls with "best of..." awards. I don't care how good you are in other cities - all the customer cares about is their own personal experiences which Five fails each and everytime for this customer. read more

Went there the night of the Alamo car show as it was close and surprisingly, not crowded. We each ordered a mushroom cheese burger and fries and I had a malt. After nearly needing CPR when I got the bill we sat and ate a bunch of peanuts I guess to quell our appetite so we could savor the wonderful 5Guys burger I had heard so much about. We were at a table not far from the drink machine and your conversation was interrupted every few minutes by the counter guy yelling numbers. He would not just yell a number once and wait but would repeat it 4-5 times in less than a minute. This plus the yelling coming from the cooking line made conversation difficult. In addition, about the cleanliness many have complained about, there was a guy sweeping and bumping my stool with his broom nearly constantly. When Little Caesar finally called my number, 5 or 6 times while I was standing up I went to him and was directed to the other end of the counter where a guy was holding up a paper bag as if I knew I was to go to him and not Tony Tonsils. Now about the meal. Malt OK---had better. Burger was so greasy I had to chase the meat. It had two smallish patties instead of one large one. Again ho hum. I like crispy fries...not so here. There are too many good or better places in the area. In n out, Fudruckers and Nations all yell your number BUT my personal favorite currently is the Habit and instead of yelling they give you a buzzer that you may or may not want in your lap when it goes off!! The shakes at Fudruckers are THE BEST. Real ice cream and served with the tin mixing can for the second helping. Peanuts??? 5Guys and Fudruckers. Summary? Overpriced and ho hum burgers in a noisy environment. Not going back. Spoiler alert---I'm what you might call a cranky old f#$t if you have read my other reviews. Maybe this is just the place for the millennials that will sit in a noisy restaurant and text (each other???) but I'm old fashioned and actually talk to my table mate when I dine. read more

I think most people will compare other burger places before choosing Five Guys, and rightfully so. For a "fast food" type place it is indeed expensive but the burgers are good. However, here is the problem. Two cheeseburgers and two fries and maybe a drink will cost you about $20. You better be craving burgers in Alamo because I can recommend 10 other places that are better for the same price. And I'm talking about restaurants - not a high school burger joint. Also, if your just craving a fresh burger And want to save half the money 9/10 people will drive to San Ramon for In N Out. Heck you can walk across the street to Lawrence Meats and have them bbq you a burger for the same price. This five guys is really about the employees only.. The music is way TOOOO LOUD!! you can't even have a conversation with your spouse or friend. You have to shout over the way too loud music. This is not a athletic gym where you need the music to pump you up to get a work out!! We come here to have a meal and relax some.. Beside that the Air conditioning is turned down too cold not comfortable to eat inside had to go outside and eat on the red tables.. This is fall time you don't need to turn the AC down to uncomfortable levels.. I talked to another patron outside where we had to eat and the couple said the same thing.. Music too loud and too cold!! Alamo is a small city the word goes out quickly. I thought I was in a bar lounge!! Make it comfortable for patrons not just the employees! Stopped in on my way home after a long shift at work and didn't feel like cooking at 7:30. No line, ordered a small cheese burger & small fries. Waited and watched as they made my and the couple other burger orders after mine. Everyone on task at their stations, gal at fryer busy timing and flipping burgers. Another guy nicely prepping with perfect swirls of ketchup/mustard on buns, lettuce & tomato & pickle stacked neatly. Fryer dude working multiple baskets. When it got my dinner to go they dumped extra fries into the bag (so if that's a small I'd be glad I didn't order a large). Everyone wore gloves, and changed them periodally. Ate a few fries on the way out, hot salty and a bit crisp just the way I like them. So didn't need them but really delicious! Got home, my burger was good and still together from the nice foil wrap. I offered to show him my receipt and he yells out "STOP" and hands me a little container of mushrooms. Fries were cold and burger was slopped together with also other missing toppings. Don't let any of the negative reviews discourage you. I had been wanting to try this location for awhile but was hesitant because of previous reviews. However, they couldn't be more wrong. I ordered a cheeseburger with everything, fries and a banana milkshake. The cheeseburger was perfectly cooked, tasted amazing, and took only a few minutes. The fries were just the same and the banana milkshake was arguably the best I've ever had. I definitely will be back and highly recommend. Good service and great food! read more

They dont open on time and are pretty rude about it. I accidentally came in 5 minutes early, and the lady who barely spoke English motioned for me to leave. I left and went to Safeway and came back around 10 minutes later. Now the doors are locked. Wait a few more minutes. Other people are trying to open the door. Finally they open the doors, and then dont acknowledge anyone coming in. We stand and wait at the register for service. A few minutes later one man, looking hungover, begrudgingly comes up and starts taking orders. Still waiting on food. Dont recommend this location, despite generally enjoying the chain. read more

How difficult is it to take a burger order? For the Alamo Plaza location -pretty near impossible. Ordered 2 burgers with specific condiments. Both came with DOUBLE patties! Didn't order that. One was to have mustard. It was so slight, it was microscopic. One was to have onions-nope. The "lettuce" was so wilted perhaps they salvaged it from a past tossed meal. Ridiculous!! The bill was $21 and the order was "to go" so the errors were not noted in the establishment. This will be the last time we go there and probably 5 Guys in general. So, I feel that many of the reviews are unfair as the store is brand new, so I will be writing this review with that in mind. The first thing I noticed was the employees were very friendly. Smiling, happy, and seemed ready to help you. I will admit that my food was took quite a while, but the store had quite a few visuals and was aesthetically appealing. When I got my food, I was excited and for the most part, it was pretty good. The burger was fantastic, and my milkshake was perfect. I didn't enjoy the fries very much, but I felt that was simply my personal preference and not the stores fault. Overall, a good location with a few hiccups that always pop-up with new places. Also, as I noticed this reviewer earlier. Yes, this place has a lot of peanuts. Every Five Guy's has a lot of peanuts, which means you shouldn't eat there if you are allergic. Just because of this, don't post a negative review because they serve free peanuts and cook in oil. read more

Alrighty I'm back with another one of my famous and downright honest reviews with a kick of free business advice. Exec summary: -Workflow issues -Long wait time to receive order, even at un-busy times -Average burger taste with generic condiments -Pricey -Restaurant doesn't feel clean - peanut shells don't help. Five Guys...the long anticipated burger joint in Alamo is finally here. I waited about a month after it opened because as a business process consultant I know all too well that except for the very best franchises, almost ALL new food service businesses have serious hiccups in the first 6-8 weeks...new employees, process issues, etc. Five Guys was headed for this path for sure when it delayed their opening date no less than 3 times before finally opening in August. I've been there twice now, and my bottom line is, it's good enough but not great. First - it's not a smooth running operation. There are a lot of employees behind the counter and the setup lets you see all the action. You get the impression orders will be turned out fast. But it's not seamless...guys calling stuff out "5 patties....5 patties ON!", yelling at coworkers to read off what the order is. I guess it's part of the 5 guys "thing" but it's kinda annoying when you realize they don't have the basic stuff down...the tickets are lined up on the assembly counter, not hanging in front of the grill - the grill cook can't see what was ordered and has to yell over to the assembly guy ("HEY, was there cheese on 41?") The fries are next to the stack of paper bags; fry guy is bumping into other guys reaching in to get bags. It's painful to watch such poor workflow. It's fixable, but it adds up to unacceptable long wait times. I ordered with two other people ahead of me in an otherwise empty restaurant and waited 20 minutes for 3 burgers. 9 minutes would have been the limit. The burger isn't special. In fact, it's a bit generic. It's not bad...but it doesn't blow me away. This might be because the condiments are very generic. Pickles seem out of a jar and just thrown on. Cheese is american...no other choices it seems. It's all made to order but it's quite honestly akin to a Wendy's burger at twice the cost. It is pricey. I am finding a family of four will spend exactly twice as much for the same meal as In & Out - and that is if you get the 'small' burger. Even the grilled cheese - a bun with a slice or two of american cheese - is nearly $5! Fries are comparable. I haven't had the shakes yet, they look good and better than the competition. Feeding 2 adults and 2 under 10 kids burgers, fries, fountain drinks was about $40; it's about $20 at In&Out and about $30 at Mooyah. Alamo commands a premium but not 75-100% for the same quality meal. All in all...it's a good burger place to have in Alamo, a place devoid of mid-tier fast food, but it's not WOW...it's perhaps on par with Habit - but Habit wins on cost and time to delivery. read more

Let me say what is better at IN-OUT-Burger: The buns are fresher and taste better; the meat is not as greasy; the toppings (lettuce, tomato, onion, etc.) are all fresher and better tasting at IOB; the fries are much fresher and much less greasy at IOB. Even though this place is right next to Safeway in Alamo where we shop we will not be going there. Just a heads up for you IOB fans. I tried the Five Guys in Dublin some time ago and was very disappointed in their food. A new Five Guys opened up in Alamo recently and I decided to give them a second chance. When you look at their menu the first two things you see your cheeseburger and hamburger, the next things you see on the menu are small hamburger small cheeseburger. I would assume that the first hamburger and cheeseburger are regular burgers but they were not they will actually double patty burgers. I did not want a double-patty burger but ended up paying for one anyway. Nowhere does it say this is a double-patty burger. I believe their menu is very deceitful. I will not go there again because they are trying to sell you a double-patty burger without telling you. I don't think that is a good way to run a business. read more
