Finally got to try Five Guys. Solid burger. What's nice is that you can choose all the toppings you want. Be warned, its automatically a double patty unless you order the junior. While I'm not complaining, I definitely don't need that much beef digesting in my stomach. The fries were just ok for me. I prefer thin, crispy Belgian style fries over homecut fries. In my scorebook, for fast food chains, the ranking goes: Fatburger on top, 5 Guys second, then In n Out. All these lose out to local joints Fantastic Burger (because of their fried zucchini) at the same price point. I've been to a lot of 5 guys all over California. The best by far is the Lakewood location on candlewood. If you've been there then you know what I mean. First off the food is, as it always is, outstanding. There are few burger places that can compete overall with the 5g franchise but what sets this 5g apart is the outstanding customer service. If you have ever read any of my reviews it all comes Down to customer service. As I have said in the past , you could be serving me goldplated steak and lobster but if the service is non existent then don't even bother. The staff is head and shoulders above all others and if you've been to a 5g before then you know the service is always above par. Long story short if you are in the neighborhood...need your 5g fix....go here. The manager, Peter, is terrific as is the balance of the staff we encountered. When arrived I was asked to wait 2 more minutes on the fries. 15 minutes later i watched them take care of all 3 of the in customer orders before I received my order. My burger had been ready before I arrived so it's been sitting for at least 20 minutes before my order was ready. By the time I ate my food the patty was cold and buns or soaked. My concern is customer service, pre- ordered on line at their site, an hour before, notified them I was on my way, notified when I was there, still waited a half hour for $70.00 dollars of food , burgers where in the bag for a half hour , 10 people come and order after me and get their food, finally get fries with order and take home hour later to cold wet buns , over spiced Cajun fries and grease everywhere, will still visit them but will be weary. read more

Yikes! Whoever thinks Five Guys is better than In-N-Out must enjoy mushy burgers because that's honestly what you get at Five Guys. A lackluster burger that's squished as it's wrapped in foil. And don't get me started on the prices! A "little burger" costs about $5 while a regular burger costs about $8. Call me frugal, but that's ludicrous! I'd much rather go to In-N-Out for a double-double, which will leave me and my wallet happy. The only thing that saves Five Guys is the (free) add-on toppings like jalapeños, mushrooms, green peppers, etc. And we can't forgot about the free, oversalted peanuts! First time here & wasn't very impressed. Didn't know the difference between the regular & jr. Apparently its one patty vs. two. Had to ask a ton of questions before the girl at the register told us that. The price point is pretty steep for these burgers and the quality is average & nothing special. The wait that afternoon was long and we were the only ones waiting on food. It took about 15 minutes. At least there were stale shelled peanuts for us to munch on while we waited. The first time I ate at this chain a couple of years ago was at the Carson Mall. It was packed with people since it had just opened; they allowed us to throw peanut shells on the floor (and they left it there) which gave it character; the workers at the Carson Mall branch were super friendly; and there weren't too many competitors during that time. I felt that this place was pretty special. Fast forward to October 2016, I now have a more objective view of Five Guys - at least for this Lakewood location. PROS: - A large variety of fixins - Free peanuts - They have hotdogs - Modern soda machine that gives you a million different choices - Tasty burger (decent bacon - thickness and crunch) - Made to order (might not be a good thing if you only have a 30-minute lunch break) - No long lines - Served with aluminum foil so I can just wrap it back up if I need to take it to go (but the foil got really messy with the bbq sauce I requested) CONS: - $$$ My wife and I shared between the two of us a bacon hotdog with cheese, a bacon double cheeseburger, large fries (big mistake...they put toooo much), and a small soda. I paid close to $25. No wonder this place was empty at 5:30PM. - Burger was a bit sloppy for my taste. I know that this is the style of the franchise but my burger had bbq sauce all over it and all over the foil. - Their natural cut fries tasted a bit burnt/bitter. I still prefer In-N-Out's real natural cut fries. - Taste over cost ratio is not that great, although the patty is a little bit thicker than In-N-Out's. - Even if you were dining in, they served the food inside a paper bag. All the cajun seasoning they used for our fries got all over the bag, the sandwiches, and my hands when I attempted to get everything out of the bag. It's just super messy. I get the point of serving it in a bag so they can overstuff the bag with fries - a lot more than I expected - but I'm sure there are people who aren't big fans of overly messy food that might want to eat here. Verdict: Because of the cost, I feel like I always have to get a ton of toppings/fixings, as well as devour a ton of peanuts, to get my money's worth. I've been to the Five Guys locations in both Brea and Cerritos before. I liked it, but wasn't super impressed by any means - just seemed like a standard, overpriced burger to me. Fast forward to today...and not much has changed. I only came here because In-N-Out was too crowded and my lunch break was a bit limited. The burger was good, but very greasy and extremely messy. I still like the fact that they let you get a multitude of toppings for one set price, but I don't like the fact that their fries must be ordered on the side and in huge quantities that I find nearly impossible to finish. I personally would still prefer The Habit, In-N-Out and many other burger chains over this place, but I do like how they have the digital coke machine that can dispense a million different flavors of soda! The customer service is also pretty good at this location, as they once overcooked my burger and happily offered to replace my entire meal, which was cool. read more

They make a pretty decent burger here at five guy burger. I think the only thing I would take issue with is you don't get a whole lot of beef for your buck in my opinion. Very friendly staff and relatively quick service. Just what I want in a fast food chain! And then there's the fact that they have the choose your own Coke machines! Those are the absolute best!! However, just remember that if you put some of the sauces (I do BBQ most of the time) it is very running so your burgers will make a mess. I seem to go through way more napkins than I should when I eat here. Now...if only they would start selling shakes like I know they're testing out in some markets. Yum!! read more
