I'm generally a fan of the Five Guys chain and have been to multiple locations in the SF Bay area. I pretty much order the same thing every time: little cheese burger with everything, little Cajun fries, and a drink. After visiting this particular Five Guys a few times, I've been disappointed by this location compared to others because: * Fries have not been fresh; instead of crispy they are soft. * The portion of fries they give you is smaller; at most other locations they usually give you 1.5 cups of whatever size fries you ordered. * The wait is unusually long. This location is never very busy but it seems normal two wait at least 15 minutes. I'm ok with the occasional off day but after multiple visits it seems this location consistently under performs. read more

Low quality, high prices. I don't know how a restaurant can get a bigger so wrong. The burgers are drenched in oil, greasy, and tasteless. The fries are soggy and dripping with so much grease that you can't even taste the potato. The burger and fries are handed to you in an oil soaked paper bag even when dining in. There are no trays; there are no plates; there is not even paper to place down on the tables. You either eat off the bare table or you tear open the paper bag to try to create some makeshift barrier between the bare table and your food. The prices are sky high. 15 dollars for a cheeseburger, a small french fry, and a small soft drink. These prices are higher than some sit down where at least you can get high quality, organic meat and your choice of cheese. Here, the cashier could not even say what type of cheese this was. The decor consisted of bathroom tiles on the lower half of all the walls and kinkos color print outs of all their purported great reviews. They even hung poster board size quotes stating how great their value and food was. It was like being in some horrible stadium bathroom where the scent of urine would be sure to fill the air. I'm rating this four stars for a non-sit-down burger joint. The chargrilled substantial burger (compared to thin flapper from In-n-Out) and the variety of toppings and the awesome fries make this a go-out-of-the-way for burger destination. Good bacon cheeseburgers and fries. Burgers come in big, full meal, sizes and smaller sizes that go well with fries or a milkshake. Milkshakes have a bit of that sweet and gummy chain restaurant style. It's nice to have dogs on the menu too, in case you're tired of burgers. The restaurant is minimally staffed so it's always trashy in the eating area. There are no serving trays so your meal is heavily packaged "to go" even if you're cleaning your own table for dining in. Always skip the tomato toppings here - they're unripe, hard, white things resembling a sour vegetable. read more

I promise to give 5 Guys another try, but after my first brush with the latest gourmet burger outlet to stake a claim in Mountain View, I was left feeling ambiguous about both the food and experience. Walking in the door, I was struck by two somewhat contradictory impressions: 1) I enjoyed how they integrated their storage of potato sacks and other bulk ingredients into the entryway's décor -- a fun and original concept. 2) But everything else about the place -- from the red and white tiles to the server's uniforms -- seemed to have been lifted wholesale from In-N-Out's familiar motif. Now, I don't own In-N-Out stock, so I don't have any skin in the game, but it struck me as being an unusual choice to so closely mimic the retro look of an iconic west coast hamburger chain -- especially here on the west coast. However, my attention quickly shifted to more important matters when I realized you could help yourself to free shelled peanuts while waiting for your order. My first impression ticked up a notch. Wait time was longer than McDonalds but shorter than In-N-Out, so it generally clocked in at a reasonable timeframe (again, noshing on the shelled peanuts kept me busy in the meantime). It seemed like an ecologically indifferent option to serve all orders in brown papers bags, even for diners that plan to eat in. But I'm not exactly a tree hugger, so the practice didn't tip the scales too much, though it does seem like unnecessary landfill fodder. When my burger arrived, and I began to negotiate the plain aluminum foil wrapper, it wasn't until my burger fell onto the tabletop that I realized I was holding it upside down. Since there are no markings on the foil packaging it wasn't clear which side was up. Okay, I'm embarrassed to admit in public that I ate the cheeseburger even though it touched the table. Believe me, I understood the possible hygienic consequences of my decision, but didn't want to wait any longer to eat, and salvaged the sandwich within the three-second rule. That's kosher, right? Like other reviewers here, I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the burger included two thick patties (not wafer-thin ones like Wendy's) that were well done (which I prefer). Taking advantage of 5 Guys' impressive range of toppings, I ordered mine with mustard, ketchup, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms. The meat and grilled onions and mushrooms combined for a very nice, fresh tasting cheeseburger. This might sound odd, but my main gripe was the heaping amounts of condiments, which quickly began falling out of the burger and rendering the soft bun to a mushy consistency that became hard to hold onto. Sure, it's nice to get generous portions, but perhaps the buns would better hold together if they were toasted. (And if in fact they are already toasted, perhaps they need to stay in the toaster for an extra few seconds). The kicker for me was that I paid just short of $10 for a cheeseburger and a fountain drink. No fries. That seems overpriced to me, considering I can get an almost equivalent order (minus the grilled mushrooms, but equally fresh tasting and customizable, plus fries) from In-N-Out for dollars less. That's an inherent problem. As I wrote in the first sentence, I plan to give 5 Guys another try, and this time order some French fries to see if they nudge my opinion upward. But if my next experience is similar to the last one, I probably won't become a regular customer, even though it was a pretty darn good burger. read more

We went to a 5 guys in So-Cal and was not impressed. Saw the one here and my husband wanted to give them another try and I am glad we did. I had just a regular burger and fries and my husband had the double bacon cheese burger. The burger was so thick it was hard to fit it all in with one bite. The meat was perfect, the bun soft, and thd lettuce tomato and all that stuff fresh. Between thd burger and fries, it's a big meal. The fries were freshly cut and made. I am not a big fan of those type if fries, but they were good. They also have one of those coke machines with all the flavor choices. I am glad we gave 5 guys another chance. read more

The cheese is that nasty American Cheese Food Product that you know you probably shouldn't eat. If they offered an alternative cheese, wow. This is the first time I've ever been to a five guys so if you are already a fan of the Five guys then my review probably won't change your mind. I ordered a cheeseburger with fries and was surprised when it came out to over $10. Seems high for fast food but I'll forgive for a killer burger. That's not what I got though. All of the burgers apparently come as doubles. The burger was pretty much flavorless and I didn't taste any seasoning. The plethora of available toppings (all free add ons) and plenty of mustard saved it. The fries were in a cup and dumped into the bag. Good fries but overall I couldn't help but feel disappointed in the food. Not poor, but there wasn't anything interesting going on with the meal at all. No desire to go back read more

Minus the palm trees on the tile, it looks a lot like In n Out inside, but the fries are a lot better, get the cajun salt. or whatever they call it, really good. A review on here complained about the soda machine-really? Food is good, I actually got a bacon cheese dog with grilled mushrooms, and was not disappointed. The free peanuts are also a nice touch, and this location has lots of indoor seating. My only complaint, and this is very, very minor, was no mustard next to the self-serve ketchup condiments. Seriously, the fries are awesome, I typically toss out about 1/4 of the fires I get at just about anywhere else, but I ate all of this and they didn't skimp on the amount either. I have never tried Five Guys Burger and heard that the food is greasy so I don't have the incentive to try anyway. After what happened to my friend this past Sat, I will NEVER try their food to boycott them. My friend's car got towed away after we parked there for only 15 mins! Maybe we should not have parked in their parking lot and walked away, but what if we decided to come back for their burgers?? The parking lot was not even full. This place is amazing!! Nothing frozen, including their meat they use for their delicious burgers. The french fries are by far the greatest I've had. We went to this location tonight and it was great. We were greeted when we arrived by the staff, had a great burger just the way we like it because it was made to our specifications, the fries were fresh and hot, the free nuts were very nice and kept us busy while we waited for our burgers. These burgers are the real deal so it does take a little extra time to make them. Not some precooked meat like other places. The staff asked us during the meal if everything was OK, and then we were thanked for coming when we left. The meat was tasty the tomato and lettuce was fresh. My husband is picky and it looks like they have worked out the bugs on this place from awhile ago. This is our go to place for a real burger and fries. Now we don't have to drive all the way to Five Guys in Sunnyvale. Enjoyed the music also. read more

I went today because of favorable press compared to In and Out Burger. First, the basic burger is a double burger...with cheese is $7.19. Yes, I can eat all that, but I would rather not. The taste was good. Fair enough though pricey. The staff was minimally attentive, yet the place was nearly empty at 2pm. I sat and ate and noticed that the floor and at least half the empty tables--and MOST of the tables were empty--were covered with debris from previous customers. The staff was just sorta hanging around chatting. Nobody was wiping tables or cleaning up the messes on the floor. Net: Good burger if overpriced. The place: below average in service and cleanliness. Not going back. I appreciate the In and Out menu, quality, and the attention to keeping the tables, booths and floor tidy. read more

Very convenient to me off of El Camino in Mountain View. The parking is a little tough especially on the weekends. Inside it was super clean and the staff was very friendly. When you walk in there is a large menu that was very visable and convenient. I am kind of a pain in the ass because I ask for everything on my burger but the cashier was very patient and nice. It was very busy however I didn't wait long and it was ready before I knew it. One of the cooks that gave me my food asked if I needed help with bringing my food to my car.The trash recepticles were empty and clean which was surprising since it was so busy, and the ketchup and peanut area which are a mess at others places was neat here. I had the cheeseburgers with cajun style fries which I never do but was recommended to me was ok. The cheeseburger was great and super juicy like they normally are. However the cajun fries had way too much seasoning and would have been tolerable with less, but the burger was great. Price was also not bad at all, the norm at Five Guys. Would definitely recommend and would go back. read more
