I ordered cajun style fries and a bacon cheeseburger with mayonnaise, lettuce, tomatoes, grilled onions, grilled mushrooms, and ketchup. First, they forgot to add ketchup. Second, the meat patty was very juicy and well prepared, while the vegetables were very fresh. Third, the fries were the best part of the meal, as they were warm, fluffy, and packed full of flavor. The price for the food is a little more than the other premium hamburger chains in the area, so that's probably why I don't eat here much. Also, this location could use an upgrade in customer service, as you aren't greeted when you enter the restaurant, nor are you thanked when you leave the restaurant. read more

The old Country Gourmet sat empty for a while but it's been renovated and transformed to the latest outpost of Five Guys. Was on my way to my fave taco truck when I saw them open. Pre meal? :) Got a bacon cheeseburger with pickles to go. Watched the dozen or so folks working the line/expediting. Lots of yelling and movement but they kept it going. Burger was fresh and hot though Id like the cheese to be melted a bit more. Salty crunchy bacon and tart of the pickels gave decent balance. My first introduction to Five Guys was in about 2008 when they were still relegated to the East Coast. Back then, I was already on a burger kick and felt like these guys were revolutionary. I had been to In N Out and felt like Five Guys was in a completely different league. Unfortunately, the legend only continued to grow in my mind over the next 8 years, so when they made it all the way to this West Coast, they were larger than life. Except, they're not. They're exactly to-scale, just greasier. First, they don't seem to have the same machine-like efficiency of In N Out. "Fast" food is a bit of a stretch for these Five Guys. Second, the Jr., which is actually a single burger, is more than enough. They need to re-scale their portions. Third, as mentioned above, they are greasier than I remembered, and not in a good way. As others have noted, the bun is always a little too flat and little too soggy. It's still a pretty good burger, but for the price, the wait, and the grease, it's just not what the same. read more

Super nice staff who work hard. I love that I can see my food being made - it reassures me of a higher level of quality than a closed kitchen where customers can't see what's going on with their food prep. Their fries tend to be too soft for me, so I requested them be crispy, and they delivered without complaint. I will hold my stance that their fries are better than In-n-Out. Hands down. Plus, I got to add whatever toppings I wanted to my grilled cheese, to give it some glam. Onions, mushrooms, tomato, yums. For science, we did a head-head burger challenge. Challengers: 5 Guys (5G) In N' Out (INO) Submission: 5G: Double cheeseburger with grilled onions, mushrooms. INO: Double Double with cheese, animal style Results: 5G: Better, fluffier bun. Meat patties larger by at least 25%. The whole thing tasted fresher and less processed. INO: Solid taste but bun tasted processed. The whole thing kinda mashes together. Little bit of a mess. But that's part of its charm. Conclusions: Extremely surprising win for 5G. Soft spot in my heart for INO considering all the late night runs in the younger days. Didn't think anybody could hold a candle to that masterpiece - the Double Double. But 5G was legitimately better. Enjoyed eating it much, much more. Also, this meal was more than enough for (2) adults. Side Experiment: Fries ranking 1. INO Fries 2. 5G Cajun Fries 3. 5G Regular Fries 5G fries have waaay too much salt. I was randomly driving by on the way back to Palo Alto when I saw the Five Guys sign by the road. I went "what the!" as I did not know a Five Guys was there, and the last time I ate at Five Guys was literally 4-5 years ago in New York. I knew they had starting opening up branches in Sunnyvale and San Jose, but I didn't know one had popped up in Mountain View (last Saturday apparently) I got a cheeseburger All the Way, with relish and hot sauce. The hot sauce was weaksauce but I did appreciate all the other toppings, especially the mushrooms and grilled onions. Pretty good overall. I also got little Cajun fries. These are not little. There are a lot of them. Also Cajun fries are delicious. Peanuts are peanuts. They are tasty. People don't seem to really throw them on the floor here, as they do elsewhere. Great to have another burger place around MV. Normal burger have 2 patties and little burgers are a single patty. You can put as many or as little toppings that you want on the burger so you can cater it to your taste. They give you a bunch of fries so a normal size is typically good for 2 people to share. The cajun fries are the way to go!! The burger are wrapped in foil and helps keep the big burger together while you eat it. Great place to go for a filling burger! read more

They have a gimmick which is that peanut sitting in the middle of the order area. I am lowering my rating of this specific Five Guys location to 2 stars. I am a big fan of Five Guys in general. I love their food and I like the style of service. The issue with this particular location is that the staff are poorly trained and unprofessional. On my last 3 visits they: -- Forgot to cook my order until I asked after several people behind me in line got their food first. When I complained, they acted like I cut in line or something. -- Were out of half the flavors on their soda machine and gave my partner grief about wanting a refund because they had nothing she'd drink. Then, after returning her money, they demanded her cup back and PUT IT BACK ON THE RACK to give to the next customer. Health violation! -- Entered our order wrong on the register, charging us for things we didn't ask for, and then ARGUED WITH US when we asked for a refund, saying it was somehow our fault. To be clear, the problem at this restaurant is not just a few mistakes happened on a few visits. Mistakes can happen anywhere. The staff at this restaurant does seem to make a lot more mistakes than average, though. But worst of all they have terrible service recovery: instead of apologizing and correcting problems that occur they are HOSTILE to customers. read more

For price, these burgers are AWESOME and I hate that word, but WOW!! I'm pretty much of a classic cheese burger guy. No cheese for Her Ladyship. When you go in, if you're like myself, all of those ingredients are listed in black. The outside "my box," toppings listed in red. How nice that you're not charged, an arm and a leg, for what would normally come with a burger, in any diner, in the good ol' USA. I probably could have just went with a junior, it's more with the size that I grew up with, and with the fries, it's more than enough for me. Burger was juicy, flavorful, toppings fresh, couldn't have been happier, her Ladyship felt the same. Very happy they leave the potatoes skins on the fries. One order was enough for the both of us. No proper pint of lager or ale, here, or it would be 5 stars. I need to try this place a few more times, and if it's consistent, will give it 5 stars. My personal preference - still in n out. That toasted bun and those animal fries are tough to beat! BUT - I will say, they did start to win me over as I made my way through the meal. One major plus, the "all the way" option - basically a bunch of free toppings that you can add if you so choose. Additionally, the burgers come in mini size and normal size, and honestly the mini size looks about NORMAL to me...definitely comparable to an in n out burger size. The place also has complimentary peanuts, which is a plus if you're into that. The side of fries are also unique because they are fried in peanut oil - they don't have that in n out "we chop fresh potatoes right in front of you" perk, but they are crispier and more flavorful than your average fry. Another plus, my friends and I were particularly amused by the soda machine, which is obviously not a five guys creation, but a definite perk to this location. Consistency of a fast food chain is key. And, 5G in Mtn Vw does not disappoint. This location is in a corner all by itself. So, it's generally not crowded compared to their Sunnyvale location. I've been to three other Five Guys, and they're great. However, this particular location was a complete turn around from the other ones. I think I'm going to Sunnyvale next time. There were no bag fries - I got an order of regular-sized cajun fries, which is now $4.09, and the measly water cup was barely filled (no bag fries). For some reason this location also serves fat-fries? No other Five Guys location I've been to serves fat fries. My friend and I both ordered LBCs, and were the only ones in the waiting queue. We did not get our order for 15 minutes from placing the order - my bun was burned, and my friend's burger did not have any of his toppings (and was missing the bacon). Of course, we went and got his burger fixed (by having him open the bun, and having the worker place the toppings inside). I can't say I'm too pleased with this visit. I can't go here without trying to picture the old Country Gourmet that used to inhabit this barn. It's been there so long, was it ever a real barn? Or fruit stand perhaps? Kinda pricey, call counter doesn't face most of the seating, the extra aisle of tables is always colder (and the metal seats don't help). But once you've been distracted by cracking peanuts for 5 minutes, your number is called, and the ridiculously tasty burger and fries will make you lose yourself in a heaven of greasy, salty American style lunchtime indulgence. read more
