Before I start I want to specify the low score is for this particular restaurant for reasons I will get into. Overall, Five Guys is a slightly overrated, but quite good place to eat. Like most of the "better than fast food but still really just fast food" restaurants it has its fans that will tell you how amazingly great it is and that you'll never have a burger or fries like you get at Five Guys. It also has its detractors that will tell you it Five Guys is horrible because they're just trying to be like Shake Shack or In and Out but failing. I don't eat burgers, but love fries. So my Five Guys lovin' friends wouldn't stop about how great the fries are and how you get so many. Too many to eat. And they tell you where the potatoes are from! The fries are ok. I've had both Five Guys Style, which is plain, and Cajun Style. Neither will blow your mind but you will generally get more than what should come in the cup that holds them. Of course, like a dram of good Scotch, the excess depends on the generosity of the fry guy. (As an aside, in the time since I began writing this review ages ago, I've found, through completely unscientific research, that ordering a regular nets you significantly more "bonus fries" than ordering a large.) The hot dogs are also good. I'm not sure they're almost $5 good, but they get the job done. A Five Guys fan will say "but you can get any ans all the toppings you want!" And you better to make it worth $5. Food from a Five Guys (including this one) is a solid 3-3.5 stars. Sometimes you just have a craving for it and the food never fails to satisfy even if it is expensive for what it is. Keep in mind going to a Five Guys means waiting. They provide peanuts in shell and free refills on soda to keep you occupied, which is nice. Now, this particular restaurant is the one closest to my workplace. They offer delivery through both Seamless and FiveGuys.com. If you think the wait is excessive when you go into a Five Guys (it is). Do not order from this restaurant.. After ordering, they will send you a text quoting about a 45 minute wait. In 4 out of 5 orders I've made over the last two months they have failed to meet this 45 minute estimate. Once they were a tad late. Twice I had to call twenty minutes after their stated time of arrival to find my food hadn't left the store yet. and once they claimed to have not received the order, said it would be right out and arrived an hour late. I'm not far by the way, the walk is only 5 blocks. The employees who answer the phone don't really seem to give a damn. I'm not certain if it's because they're used to hearing people complain about the length of their wait or if they truly don't care. Either way, I've stopped caring. I won't be ordering from or walking to this Five Guys again. Odds are I will avoid every Five Guys because of the piss poor service of this one restaurant. Excellent burger. This was my second time trying it, as I had a bad experience my first time at the one down by NYU. That location was grimy, but this wasn't an issue here. My burger came out hot and sizzling, and I took advantage of some of the free extras they're willing to give. The double was nicely sized. This burger is up there with the best of the fast food type burgers in NYC. Also got the fries again. The portions are extremely generous but they're nothing memorable. Since I read on the company website that their double cheeseburger has 55 grams of fat in it, I think I'll just stick to the burger next time I'm here and get my daily fat value from that. I'd also recommend hitting this location later in the afternoon. I've walked by it at lunch and the line amazingly goes out the door. I went there around 4:30 and I was one of the only people inside. I absolutely love Five Guys. There's no need to write about how amazing their burgers are and honestly, how amazing the whole customization aspect of their food is. Btw - note the "All the Way" option, I'm sure you'll want to go all the way. Their grilled onions and mushrooms make turns the burger from being a burger into being an excellent burger. Do I really need to review Five Guys Burgers? Yes and no. Yes: it must be added to my burger list, so therefore a review is necessary. But no: everyone knows about Five Guys... what can I possibly add? Zzzzzzz. That's me. Sleeping. After I ate a Five Guys burger for lunch one weekday afternoon and went back to my office to finish the day. It's a drawback. The burgers here put me to sleep. I think it may have something to do with the fact that the grease level in one of these burgers is similar to the grease level in a deep fryer. Alas, these fast food-style burgers are quite tasty and actually a normal burger here is a "double" burger since they combine two thin patties on a bun in the hopes that you don't notice. But you do notice. Okay, how about some positive thoughts: It's pretty cool that the good folks of Five Guys Burgers realized that it really pisses off customers when it costs extra to add lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, etc. So Five Guys does NOT charge extra for any of that. It's brilliant, really. It's like a choose your own adventure book. Who doesn't like a choose your own adventure? The most brilliant thing: great fries. Burger joints focus so much on burgers that they very often forget about the fries. But Five Guys hasn't forgotten about the fries. They even have a bag of potatoes in the place just to make you remember that they make their own fries, and they are not frozen. I like it. And the orders of fries are huge -- even a small fries results in almost double that amount in the bottom of your to-go bag. The best thing about the fries here is the option to get Cajun/seasoned fries (even though they aren't prominently advertised, for a reason I can't understand). Bonus points for seasoned fries. A final point to note is that Five Guys has a self-service fountain soda machine. Would you like to mix Pibb with Diet Coke? Sure. (As a side note: yes, they have Pibb... deep breaths, now.) Back to the downsides... price is a problem. It's not cheap for a burger, fries & a drink. $13ish. This would be okay at a restaurant but at Five Guys it's more like a red & white tiled floor self-serve experience. We're only talking about burgers & fries here... not a gourmet meal. It's simply too much to spend for a midweek lunch in my office. We shoot for under $10. Previous tenant Prince Deli: RIP. Overall impression: this is a really good burger that gives a new standard for fast food burgers to climb to, but the burger here doesn't stand up to places like JG Melon, Burger Joint or some of the other top spots in the city -- then again this is a fast food burger, and a different beast altogether, so enjoy the nap you'll be taking after devouring one of these burgers but just don't forget to set an alarm. read more

As a weekly commuter to NYC from DC, Five Guys was a breath of fresh air from the mediocre history I have had with New York burgers. The place lacked the efficiency so commonly associated with DC. But it was not the staff I was there for, it was the burgers and fries. Burgers were cheap, juicy, and tasty (with grilled onions, mushrooms, BBQ sauce, and American cheese in my case). The fries were heaping and greasy, though not the half baggers I'm used to from DC. The peanuts were tasty and kept me busy while waiting for my friend to arrive, albeit the shells were noticably absent off the floor before I arrived. Either they had just been swept or the previous patrons were too fearful to throw them on the floor as I'm accustomed to see in DC. Best tasting burger I've had in NYC to date. This five guys burger shop On 3rd ave and 44th st is comfort food with juicy burgers , hot dogs , fries with the fat and sodium levels so high the numbers will match your blood pressure after the first bite .I still like the free peanuts gimmick but the slobs really make a mess of the joint . Place is long with good amount of seating in an narrow layout . The veggie burger is a good alternative to the beef burgers as long as you pile the toppings heavy . I skipped all the burger options and ordered a giant hot dog with mustard which the condiment table supplies along with other sauces along with napkins , straws , etc . The fries in the brown baggy was so saturated with oil that if the fonz walked in and needed to grease up his hair I could just hand him the empty bag when I am finish with my fries . They do have a simple system for ordering , just put in your ordering and pay and wait for your number to be called its that easy and my wait was about 5 minutes . Yes the fries are soggy and the hot dog taste a bit different then the usual dog but it's not that bad especially if you are hungry and have a large beverage to wash it down with . I think I've gotten a smile and a "have a nice day" with every order. To the haters giving bad reviews for the veggie burgers - What in the world are you doing going to five guys for a veggie burger? There's a reason they have about 3 things on the menu, and each one has meat. It's what they do well. If you want a veggie burger, go to Pump or a Vegetarian restaurant. Plus, if you're a vegetarian for 'humanitarian' reasons (snyde face here) then what are you doing giving your money to five guys? I guarantee they're taking your money and pumping it into breeding more cows - as they should be. You're in a very vegetarian friendly city, and those vegetarian friendly places need your money so they can survive long enough to buy more organic produce. Tried their burgers and fries for the first time ever from Five Guys chain today with my boyfriend! My boyfriend loved his cheeseburger and regular fries order. And the free soda re-fills are awesome, you don't see that a lot in this area. We were surprised that the cheeseburger was actually a double cheeseburger. All this comes out to around $13. Not too bad, since they make it up by giving you almost half a brown bag full of thick fries and then you get free refills on soda/sweetened or unsweetened ice tea. And love how you can choose your own toppings/sauces at no additional charge. Instead of annoying the workers by asking to hold this hold that, you can be like stack it up with this this this and that! I got their little hamburger and cajun style fries, and mine came out to around $8+. kinda pricey. I love the cajun style fries better tho. very flavorful. and their little hamburger is a single patty, pretty small :(, but tasty. It's juicy, never frozen, and 80% lean meat. I couldn't finish my fries, so next time when we come we will definitely just share fries or order a large and share it. finishing regular size of your own fries is too much! All in all, this is a review based on people who haven't tried Shake Shack's burger though. I'm hearing it's amazing. The only thing holding me back is the lines. Tried Five guys at this location for the very first time! my friend and I split a bacon cheeseburger (its pretty big with two patties), we also got a side of cajun fries. The cashier was very understanding it was our first time and gave us suggestions. As I was waiting they told me to get myself to peanuts to snack on. They have these huge barrels of peanuts and you can take as many trays of it as you want. When i got my order I saw that the cooked hooked it up with a lot of fries and even gave me a free soda! I guess this is where New York gets its bad rap about customer service/ rudeness of its locales.. Fast food and retail chains really need to institute a special "New York" training to teach them how to give a (insert four letter word of your choice) and stop being so freaking creepy every time a half way decent looking lady walks in! My goodness.. Five Guys is a relatively new chain in Southern California and they are few and far between unlike the plethora of them scattered in every neighborhood all over the east coast. I think something about that dynamic, that makes the experience very different in southern California than I have had here. The ones in Cali are clean, friendly and professional. The NYC staff seem to take their jobs for granted, treating it like playtime and open territory to oogle and hit on chick customers. Food: The Cajun fries are good. For the burgers/sandwiches, I love all the toppings available at no extra charge. The buns here seam to be handled with less care than the west coast counterparts and are often squished. Mmmm, that's a tasty burger. The basic burger comes with two patties, so no worries on it being filling enough. I appreciate that you can add a wide selection of complementary toppings. Between the juicy meat, tasty cheese and your personalized choice of toppings, it more than makes up for the humorously short menu (four permutations of burger, cheese and bacon). The fries are also good, a thicker cut that I personally don't find as much an attraction as the as the burger. I'd say even the small serving of fries is enough to share. It would be safe to say this was a much-anticipated opening. As you can probably expect from a Midtown East location, it can get pretty crowded during prime lunch hours. But you won't have to deal with lines the later you go for dinner -- not a bad time at all to get your fix. You kind of know what you're getting into when you go to Five Guys. You're going to get a burger. It is going to be very greasy, covered in free toppings, and it's going to be delicious. You won't know what you're going to get if you're allergic to peanuts, because not only do they use peanut oil for frying, they also have boxes of peanuts available for free while you wait for your food. I feel for those with peanut allergies, who have to miss out on some of the best things in life (the simple joy of a PBJ, Five Guys, Reese's EVERYTHING).The pricing is kind of in between fast food and restaurant level, so a meal for two (two burgers, medium fries [which alone can feed a family of 4], and two drinks) will run about $25-30. The staff here is very nice, no complaints. The soda machines, a pair of Coke Freestyle, were out of a bunch of things, which is a bit of a peeve of mine, since the machines tend to not notify anyone. Replacing the local Jamaican eatery (Golden Krust), Five Guys is adding a tasty burger alternative to midtown east. I've seen the sign up for a while, but today when I got back to the city I saw it was open and very excited to get over there for dinner. The burgers here are very well cooked -- still juicy, but not sloppy. I also like the variety of condiments you can throw on there (bacon, onions, jalapenos, A1 sauce etc.). I didn't get a chance to really try the jalapenos, but my roommate tells me they aren't pulling any punches. The fries are also super tasty, still with pieces of the skin for some authenticity. I'm also a big fan of places that don't have too many options on the menu and just focus on doing a few things very well. Five guys is an example of this, and while I probably won't eat here every night, it'll definitely add some flavor to my regular midtown east lunch/dinner rotations. read more

Burgers are decent - with the meat, cheese, lettuce, tomatoes (if I recall correctly you can pick whatever toppings you'd like) they get vertical. My patties kind of fell apart by the end though.
