I've been here twice. Only returned for the second visit because we were desperate for something quick. I ordered a burger "All the way," which includes the top black line of toppings listed on the menu. It was just MEH, not really flavorful or memorable. A bit overpriced, too. Got the 1 patty and I was still hungry. Shared an order of fries with hubby. They were WAY TOO salty. (And I like salty fries!) But I liked the seasoning they put on the fries. And it was a very generous serving of fries. The bathrooms were clean and the service was quick and friendly. And the air conditioning was on full blast. I was FREEZING!! Between our 1st and 2nd visits, our daughter was diagnosed with a peanut allergy. Totally forgot that there are lots of peanuts here. So, we just wiped our table down and didn't let her walk around (there were shells on the floor). Needless to say, we won't be back. read more

I am simply giving 5 stars because the service here is great and the young female manager runs this place well. It is clean and well kept, I see them constantly wiping down the highchairs and tables. Visited this place for the first time based on friends and yelp reviews. I had the Little Bacon Cheeseburger with everything except grilled mushrooms. This place doesn't skimp on their toppings, the bacon was plentiful and crispy. I gotta say that the burger was quite delicious with the condiments and toppings. We also ordered large Cajun fries and found them to be a bit soggy for my taste. The portion were large enough to share between 2 people. I would recommend this to the burger lover, its one of those places you gotta try. read more

Simply: not as good as the original in Arlington, VA or Washington DC for that matter, which is a shame because I was excited that they opened up stores in San Diego. Came in after the lunch crowd (around 2pm), so it wasn't crowded and no line. I ordered a little bacon cheeseburger and regular fries. Got a little cheeseburger with no bacon and soggy fries. I really don't have to give it another try, because with In-N-Out, Rocky's and Hodad's in town - which beat the quality of what I had today and not as expensive - why bother? Life-long fan of the In-N-Out grilled cheese. I tried the veggie and cheese sandwich here. My first impression was there were way too many toppings on it, and there was no burger "diaper" like at In-N-Out, so everything was sliding out everywhere. It was not fun. And, I didn't get any of the "free" add-ons, this was just with the normal stuff it comes with. If you want to be like In-N-Out so bad, get some burger "diapers" dang it. The fries were good, but nothing special. I got the normal ones, not cajun. For what it was, expensive. I think the veggie cheese sandwich is like $5 and the fries were another $4 or so. Ok, I've given this place two chances now and I do NOT see what the big whoop about this place is. You can NOT get your burger cooked any other way than well done....blech. At least they're not a totally dried out hockey puck like Hodads...THE most overrated burger on the West Coast! Their burgers are bland, bland, bland. No wonder they offer so many damn toppings, as that is the only thing that gives their burgers any taste. Fries are very good when crisp, When not crisp...meh. No comparison to In 'n Out, or as the locals know, Rockys in Crown Point/P.B. area. Heck, I even like Red Robin's burgers WAY more than Five Guys. I got the smaller burger with fries and no drink and it was still a somewhat steep $8 and change. Even though you want to feel a little deja vu about the decor, you haven't tried a Five Guys Burger unless you've eaten peanuts while waiting for your cajun fries. Delicious burger that rivals In N Out. They have a bunch of different toppings for your burgers so it's not so "in the box". They offer cajun and regular french fries. I prefer the cajun. SPICY- yum! They are pretty quick to serve your meals and it is cooked to order so it's not one of those fast-food marinating under the heat lamp type situations. Try it. Five guys is borderline fast food restaurant. Although it is more costly than In-N-out, it is still worth it. The meat is very fresh and flavorful! I loaded up my burger with lots of toppings! The customer service is also superb! the Cashier allowed me to get mixed fries of their Five guys seasoning and Cajun. I also requested that my burger gets cut in half and individually wrapped (sharing it with a friend) and they gladly did it! Not only did they wrapped the burgers individually, they gave us separate bags and each with a cup of fries! The workers are very happy and ready to help and answer any questions! Five Guys simply isn't known for expansive seating areas, but this one has indoor and outdoor and always seems to have awesome music playing. Free peanuts work well pretty much anywhere, but especially here it's good to have some protein to snack on while your protein gets cooked. Three stars for an A-OK location of Five Guys. I've been curious about Five Guys because of all the Obama hype. To further the hype, the restaurant has posted as its decor laminated covers from Washington magazines that rate Five Guys as the best burger joint in Washington DC. The location in Point Loma is spacious and clean, but the cooks yell out orders to each other and will yell out your order number when your food is ready. The music blares pretty loud, so the guys have to yell awfully loud to get their message across. That should give you some idea of the ambiance. I went for the regular sized cheeseburger classic style (lettuce, tomato, fresh onion, pickles and ketchup), fries and a drink. All three with tax came out to $11.50. Whether you get your food to go or to eat there, your food comes in a brown bag. The burger was okay, nothing mind blowing. It was kind of hard to get a two patty burger into my mouth (although I don't have problems with In-n-Out's double double). The bun was pretty good but the bottom layer dissipated under the moisture from my fixings. The fries come in a cup, overflowing in a cup. They're skin-on potato wedge type fries. I think they'd be special if they had some kind of special seasoning, but they were just fried potatoes. Good tasting but quantity-wise, too much of a good thing for one person. All in all, I'm glad I satisfied my curiosity but there's nothing mind-blowing about this burger. I don't know about the quality of burgers in Washington DC for this place to get top billing, but then again, they don't have In-n-Out. They're twice as expensive as a comparable meal at In-n-Out but there's way more selection on the fixings and the seasoning. I guess it's worth it if you like your burger just so, and also want the option of a hot dog or other kind of sandwich. read more

I've heard that this place is the "east coast In-N-Out", so I decided to give them a try. I gotta say, it doesn't live up to the hype at ALL. I ordered a regular burger, which consisted of two ultra well done patties that were drier than the Mojave desert. The toppings were sparse, and really didn't have any flavor, especially their grilled onions and tomatoes. It tasted like I was biting into a burger that I would've gotten from a box and heated up in the microwave. The bun wasn't gilled (thanks In-N-Out for doing this so well), but tasted cold and very soft. In addition to this, I spent over eight bucks for said burger and a small cup of fries, which were basically a huge pile of grease....I only ate a few before throwing it all away. I didn't even order a soft drink, as a small was two bucks! So Unless You're An "Off-Season" Bodybuilder Bulking Up, They're DEFINITELY For Sharing! Five Guys was featured in an article on top local SD burger joints, so I had to check it out for myself. Finally went with my dad on a Saturday, quarter to noon. Selections cover burgers, dogs, and fries. All very simple, but you can personalize your burger with over 12 toppings (the usual plus grilled mushrooms, jalapeno peppers, green bell peppers, and sauces). Rather than pick and choose, you can go "All the Way" with your food (all condiments). We ordered 1 hamburger, 1 cheeseburger and 1 order of fries. Cashier immediately called out four patties to be grilled. I didn't realize that the hamburger is two patties, and the junior burger is one patty, so if you want a light meal, definitely go junior. The wait took at least 15-20 minutes, but there are boxes of peanuts all around to dig into as you wait. Also, there are boxes of peanut oil and bags of potatoes neatly lined up to prove they're from Idaho and fresh. Allergy Alert: If you and peanuts do not mix, think long and hard about pros/cons before you walk through the entrance. Likely peanut dust floating around. Our burgers were enormous and juicy. The fries came in an overflowing cup, definitely enough for two to share. The patties were thick (3/4inch each) and the flavor tasty. Extra condiments were merely a plus, they made the burger harder to hold together, but didn't add too much to flavor. A bit messy, but still good. Definitely made use of the foil wrap around the burger. Overall, if you're looking for a gourmet burger in a casual fast-food setting, this is it. read more

First time eater here as of 2012, LOVED it. Service was friendly and fast. Burgers are double patties cooked well done & juicy; I like when they taste fresh like you just grilled them at home with nothing added but seasoning (as opposed to the usual fast food spots). They give you a TON of fries (go cajun if you're a salt lover) so no need to EVER order a large, unless you're sharing with 4-6 people. Even the smaller size is more than enough for 2 people. Menu is very short, simple and to the point which makes for the speedy service. My other favorite part is the soda machine! Coke/Sprite/Fanta/MelloYello/Barqs all come in various flavors. I am a coke fan, and the raspberry stole my heart! My only con about this place was particular to the location... Don't come when school gets out; the kids pour in & it gets pretty crowded. Not the worst burgers, but def not the rave people are shouting in the streets about. They are trying to hard to be as simple as In N Out, especially with the few items on the menu, color schemes. The peanuts don't go with burgers but it keeps you preoccupied while you wait for your stuff which doesn't take that long. The burgers tasted like I BBq'd them myself in my backyard w/ half-melted cheese. It's seasoned well and the 1-patty burger is a good size. They foil wrap em up for you. Came for lunch today. I though for sure there would be a wait time since it was lunch time but I was wrong. The cashier was polite and friendly. I placed my order and it was ready in about 5 min. The restaurant was well maintained and clean. There is ample seating inside and outside of the restaurant. The only draw back I found was the straw bin being empty. I mentioned to cashier and he immediately filled the straw bin and handed a straw to me. I ordered the "Little Cheeseburger" an order of "Little Fries" and small drink. My cheeseburger was very filling and I couldn't finish. The fries were pretty good. Not very greasy or salty. I will be back again. read more

Went to 5 guys for the first (and likely last) time after hearing so much hype. Very disappointing. All the zagat and magazine reviews just demonstrate how bad the east coast needs good burger places. The quality of meat is poor, which is why they will only serve your burger well done, the fries aren't great, and the staff seems to be clueless as to their own menu (which isn't very big) as well as customer service. Overall, I would stick with In-n-Out for a quick and cheap burger or Burger Lounge for a real burger. read more

SEXY BURGERS. I was in town visiting and ended up begging to go back here to eat a second time a few days after the first. Second time around I had the "Little" bacon cheeseburger (hint: it ain't little) and Cajun fries. A single order of fries was enough to feed two hungry, hungover foodies. Excellent value, great service, decent atmosphere. Liberty Station, a cluster of Spanish Colonial style former Navy buildings, is a pleasant alternative to the rest of So Cal's bland strip malls. My only constructive criticism is that the music is effing LOUD. If you're hungover, be prepared to be blasted with Huey Louis at top volume. Additionally, I think the only thing that would make the food rock harder is if they had a few more varieties of cheese to pick from; currently it's only American. Great job, Five Guys! read more

I had 2 dreams about this place last night. No, seriously. TWO. One during my 6 hour nap and another during my normal sleep. I'm still trying to figure out why other than the obvious reason: I wants their burgers. And yeah, 6 hours. Woke up to move from the couch to my bed and went back to sleep. Guess I was tired. I always tried to avoid this place only because my bro & sis-in-law back in Florida said they're burgers weren't worth however much they cost (I wasn't the one paying so I don't know) and were too dry and she'd rather go to Steak N' Shake. I guess maybe the Five Guys in Florida just sucks or they had poor luck. This place though is total yums. The boyfriend likes it over Hodad's (I still like Hodad's better, but maybe it's more for their ambiance). Anyway, the burger was deeeeelish. It was nice and JUICY, toppings were great (I just had mushrooms and grilled onions and it was perfect), and the fries were great. You know what's a good combo? A bit of malt vinegar with your ketchup. Thanks RJ. Yeah. Try it. Just don't put too much vinegar, unless you're into that sort of thing. Oh, and you know what? They serve Gold Peaks Iced Tea. I went here today because I was shopping at the Vons at Liberty Station and thought I'd try something new. Wow what a mistake, now I'm not complaining about the service which was very good. I'm saying this isn't worth over 20 dollars. The Bacon Cheeseburger I got was so so, nothing to write home about. The fries are horrible, I prefer shoestring fries. I can't understand why so many fast food places serve these awful thick cut fries with the potato skins on the edges. The shake was crap as well, it's the dairy mix crud that McDonalds serves. I've been a Chef for over 11 years now and it amazes me that this place is still in business. Even with all their copies of the magazine awards they've received over the years. I seriously doubt those critics if they went to any one of them now would give them such stellar reviews. Then again, those magazines are not on the top list of popular magazines. I tried it and hoped for the best but got crap that is way overpriced and not close to being something like Hodad's, Rudfords, In n Out, Shake Shack or even Carls' Junior for that matter. Best burger on a budget, period. This is possibly my #1 spot for a burger when I figure in cost, portion, options, and access to multiple locations. Sure, there are other fantastic burgers out there, but they just don't have the whole package like 5 Guys does. Burgers are always amazing, with the exception of a couple locations (which are still a 7/10), fries,.. okay, let me tell you that if you order a large fry here, you are wasting your money. They will top your bag off with a ton of fries even with a regular order, so save your money! Cajun fries, although sometimes a little overseasoned, are awesome and I don't down the seasoning simply because it's made fresh-to-order and seasoned by hand. Of course it will vary from time to time if it's made fresh and by hand. If you want a good burger and fries, have only $10 to your name, and can't stomach another dollar menu mystery patty, make your way to the nearest Five Guys and get down on one of the best burgers you'll ever taste. read more

Why don't mind if I do! I'm willing to drive a distance to get this burger too, but thankfully they're opening one in PB and one in La Jolla/borderline SD so I don't have to go all the way to Point Loma. From the outside this place like your average hamburger joint. But after stepping in and smelling the freshness of the hamburgers and fries, there is no way to resist ordering something. My first time here I ordered the little bacon cheeseburger, which was absolutely delicious and filling. My boyfriend ordered the big bacon cheeseburger which is the same as what I ordered. The only difference is it has a double patty. On top of the burgers, we split some fries and boy, let me tell you they hook it up. After finishing my meal there were still fries leftover in the paper bag! The workers were really nice at this location and were helpful in explaining the menu. Oh and two perks about this place: 1) the Coca-Cola Freestyle machine is awesome. It has more than 100 flavors and combinations 2) free peanuts while you're waiting. It doesn't get much better than Five Guys. Everyone must try it at least once. read more

I wanted to see what all the hype was about this place. The menu was fairly simple. A regular burger/cheeseburger is two patties while the junior burger/cheeseburger is one patty. You can choose if you want to have bacon with your burger. You can build your burger the way you want it. It's not as great as Burger Bar in Las Vegas but it seems to cost just as much. The burgers are made quick and delivered in a brown paper bag. Unwrap the foil and you have a good burger just waiting to be eaten. The meat was juicy and tender. I ordered large fries with my burger and my bag was filled with fries. In fact my burger was buried in fries. I am a huge fan of french fries. In fact it is my favorite vegetable. The cajun fries were great. Just the right amount of spice. The regular fries were not that great. They were extremely salty. I would recommend at least trying the place out once. If it is not for you there is always In-n-Out. read more

4th of July Weekend My family and I went to Five Guys in Liberty Station because they didn't want to wait at Slater's 50/50. By the time we got our food, we should have just waited!!! It took over 40 minutes for us to start getting our orders. When we spoke to them about the service they said "We are short staffed and that guy is new." Seriously, it's a holiday weekend!!! The only reason this is 2-stars instead of 1-star is because they did try to appease us with free fries. The irony is when they started calling numbers from our group, my number was skipped over because they had to wait for the fries to get ready!
