I heard a lot about this place and decided to go! My husband and I dreamed of a good tasty hamburger or cheeseburger ... but unfortunately it did not work! When ordering the girl, we decided what we wanted to add from the fillings, but since we ordered a hamburger we decided that this was a strange question, usually everyone had their own filling standards: we decided to add tomatoes and went to the table waiting for the order! This place is awesome. That's all! The employees are always on top of everything, they greet anyone that walks in. They're awesome. This is also the cleanest Five Guys that I've been to as well, every time I've gone in there's always one person focused on sweeping, cleaning tables, or emptying garbages. I haven't been to Five Guys in a long time, so we decided to grab a quick and late lunch here. I had the little bacon cheeseburger, and got some cajun fries. I love their cajun fries. Delicious. The texture of the fries is just the way I like it--a little crisp on the outside, but soft on the inside. And the cajun seasoning is on point. The burger is good, although I wouldn't say there's anything really special about it. I like my burger with everything, which includes mushrooms and grilled onions. The Ballard Five Guys is sub-par compared to other Five Guys locations such as the ones in Northgate and Lynnwood. They occasionally get my order wrong, as in the contents of the burger don't match what's on my receipt (even though there are no other orders), and they don't give as many fries as the other locations. Decent overall but the Ballard store is definitely not as good as most other Five Guys stores. read more

They put my cheese dog in hamburger buns and never mentioned a thing until I left. I came home and found out about it and phoned the store. The staff said she knew about it but forgot to tell me. When my order was being placed, there was only me and one dude in the entire restaurant. So given that it wasn't busy, I can't take her excuse. We loved five guys and went regularly. Then my son and I had food poisoning from the restaurant. We were both quite ill for a week. My 5 year old son ended up at Childrens hospital ER getting a workup that included abdominal ultrasound for abdominal pain that had him bent over and unable to walk for a week. Being a Ballard resident watching all the new construction spring up how can you not be interested in what new restaurants move in, especially in such a foodie part of town with a string of fantastic places to eat. The new Five Guys was my first experience with the seemingly popular chain. But after experiencing it I remain perplexed what the hype is about, especially considering the cost ($10-15 per head including side and beverage) . I went with co-workers a few weeks after their opening for lunch. A few people but not insanely busy. Took about 20 minutes to get the order... Perhaps that's the reason for the peanuts. I had a bacon burger, and my co-workers had burgers as well. For me one of the two patties was overdone and a bit crunchy, the other almost too medium, both flavorless. Really no amount of bacon, cheese, or condiments could have saved it. My co-workers were also unimpressed. The fries in our case were plentiful. We ordered a single order of fries which were placed in a cup, but there was a full second order just dumped in the bottom of the bag with the burgers. They were rather greasy and uninteresting. I don't get it! Sorry Five Guys but the Ballard Scooters and the Seattle icon Dicks will have an edge over you for value and quality. read more

I've been to other locations before and had excellent burgers there, Five Guys used to be one of my favorite burger spots. But this one (Ballard) is consistently bad. IDK why but the quality standards at this location are lower than the norm. This time, the bun to my burger was incredibly stale to the point I thought it was toasted (it wasn't) and fell apart. The grilled mushrooms/onions on the burger were luke warm at best making me concerned about food safety. The burger itself was a dry hockey puck. If the guy who took my order & made my food wasn't having a heated argument with some one over the counter in a foreign language while he took my order and cooked my crappy food, I would have sent it back. But I didn't want to risk starting another argument. I won't be coming in here again. My suggestion: go to Lil Woody's for a much better burger at a comparable price and support local business at the same time. read more

I was excited to try Five Guys. After reading the stellar reviews I was prepared for something amazing. However, upon trying the bacon cheese burger with grilled onions and mushrooms, I was thoroughly disappointing. I am still bewildered as to how a burger with those ingredients could taste so unbelievably bland! I was also quite unimpressed with the Cajun fries, which were also bland and completely devoid of any salt. They don't offer any gourmet type sauces and only have the basics which would appeal more to little kids who like to dip hotdogs in ketchup. I've had many delicious burgers and other foods with amazing flavor, so it's not as though I have dead taste buds. The Five Guys burger was well assembled and looked great, but the taste just wasn't there. Very bland. I know there are some people who love bland food and just can't cope with any culinary sophistication, but I'm really bewildered by all the stellar reviews of Five Guys. Voted best burger? Really? Are people nuts? Have these people never had a burger with flavor? I don't know, but I won't be eating at Five Guys again. Seriously, a cheap slop burger from Dick's is more sophisticated in terms of flavor. My next attempt in finding a good burger is the Macho Burger truck parked a few blocks from my house. I was in a big hurry so I called in my order and told them I was just around the corner. I arrived 5 minutes later hoping to run in and pick up the order and go. When I got up to the register and paid for my order the guy turned around and told the fry cook "Laura is here, you can start cooking her fries. They had already finished my hamburger when I arrived and it was on the back counter. I asked why they hadn't cooked the fries at the same time and he told me it was their policy not to cook the fries until the guest had arrived so that they always received hot fries. I pointed out that because I had called in my order I was penalized by their policy. Not only did I have to wait just as long for my order to cook as I would have if I didn't call in, but my hamburger then would be cold when the fries were hot. That has got to be the most idiotic policy I have ever heard. Wow. Good food but total morons managing the place. read more

Remarkable place ... but not in a good way ... Huge, always empty or near empty... Red Mill is only a mile or two away in two directions is much better and cheaper. No shakes, just sodden greasy burgers (average wait in an empty shop - 6 - 10 min. Wendy's is actually better a block away. I'm sure that I've had a worse burger... just can't remember when. Very eccentric place, no shakes or malts but plenty of comical boxes of ... peanuts ! (which nobody seems to buy... they actually look dusty ...) These burgers are amazing...I mean really. The staff is always friendly. It does take longer than other fast food places, but that's because they are grilling your food right in front of you, they don't make it until you order it, and I love that I watch my food being made. The fries are real potatoes. Yes it may be greasy, I believe they use peanut oil for cooking? Anyway, sometimes there are long lines, so I call in my order 10 minutes before I start to walk over from my work, and it's ready. The customer service is great. I am so happy to have a decent food place in Ballard. It is so easy to get burnt out on all the other chains. Their portion size is worth the price for sure. There have been a couple times where I was given tomatoes instead of pickles on my burger. No big deal. I made a comment and since then they haven't made the mistake again. For fast food workers, these people go above and beyond for their task duties. I'd rather my food take longer, seems like it hasn't been sitting in a warmer and that sure makes me feel better about putting it in my body. read more
