The kids and I were running errands and doing some shopping when we decided to pass by Five Guys to see if they had opened. Judging by the long line, it was apparent they had recently opened (just yesterday!). We got in line which moved very quickly. Ordering was a snap and our food came pretty quickly. Pros - Customization - Portion and taste of the burger - Portion of the fries. Stick to the regular size and share with others! - Subtle heat of the Cajun Fries - Malt vinegar for the fries! - Friendly, fun atmosphere - Unlimited Sodas! Cons - Fries were too soggy for my liking; please cook them a little longer - Availability of mayo for fries, etc. They should have a dispenser similar to the one for Ketchup - It took a little bit of time to find a seat. 4.5 stars. I FINALLY got to try Five Guys after hearing about all the mixed reviews and the comparisons with In-n-Out and I gotta say this place wins. SUPER tasty. However, don't expect a gourmet burger place because it's not going to be one. The ambiance is that of something that reminded me of In-n-Out or the food court at Costco. You can choose a grilled cheese, hamburger, cheeseburger, or bacon cheeseburger. You can also get the "little burger" version of each of those options, which is what I opted for. After you choose that, you tell them which toppings you want on your burger. Their options for toppings are pretty extensive and won't disappoint. I got ketchup, extra grilled onions, pickles, lettuce, tomatoes, and mushrooms. You can also add hot sauce, A1 steak sauce, raw onions, mayo, mustard, jalapenos, relish, and probably a couple more that I'm missing. While you wait for your order number to be called, feel free to scoop up some roasted peanuts from the boxes and enjoy! These are actually very tasty and my friends and I went back for seconds. I thought it was random that there would be peanuts but I guess they're trying to promote the fact that they cook everything in peanut oil. I got the "little cheeseburger." It was about $4 for a "little cheeseburger" which was about the size of a typical In-n-Out burger without all the extra toppings. However, I felt like the beef patty was a little thicker (and JUICIER), plus after all the toppings are added on, the burger is pretty sizable. I also shared a regular order of the cajun fries with my friend. The cup may look small but it was definitely enough for the both of us. The fries are thicker cut and they taste a lot like the cajun fries from Boiling Crab. This joint is slightly pricier than I expected it to be, but was definitely a delicious burger experience that will give In-n-Out a run for its money because of its abilities to customize burgers to each customer's liking without essentially penalizing someone for liking more toppings. read more

I decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and try Five Guys again and my original review still stands. I had the bacon hotdog which was basically a hotdog sliced in half with two pathetically over cooked pieces of bacon. When I bit into it, the bacon crumbled into pieces, and not in a good way either. I paid over $10 for a hotdog, fries and soda. I could've gotten a better hotdog from 7-11. The single star is for their wonderful staff who managed to turn over a very busy restaurant in a short amount of time. I finally had my first Five Guys Burger about a month ago. Before I talk about the burger that I ordered, let me talk about one thing. This place was getting packed to capacity at 11:30 AM. Yes, it wasn't even noon and the lines were literally going out to the parking lot. I ordered the large bacon cheeseburger with lettuce. It was just OK. Not very good nor the best. The reason why I'm giving Five Guys starts with the menu board. You have to really focus and know what you will order, before the cashier takes your order. And the french fries are the most expensive for a fast food chain. Almost $3 for a regular order. $3? Finally got around to trying these burgers out. I'm not a huge burger person but every once in a while I just crave a good hamburger. My first preference for hamburgers is actually homemade ones, but if I'm not in the mood to cook or don't have the time, I will hit up my usual go-to fast food hamburger, In-n-Out. I don't like any other hamburgers from Carl's Jr, Jack-in-the-Box, Wendys, etc. I was in NYC and saw a Five Guys there, as it was an east coast thing. I was excited when they started opening them up around here. Walking in, you almost feel like you're at their biggest rival, with the red and white theme. I ordered a single and had them add jalapenos, pickles, mushrooms, mustard, onions, lettuce and tomatos. The burger itself was good, however I wasn't a huge fan of the bun. It ended up falling apart in my hands and it was a little too "doughy" for me. Also, they used those sweet hamburger chip pickles which I loathe, so I was disappointed by that. The other disappointment was I don't even think I had more than a single mushroom, no joke! I did like the jalapenos, they use real raw crunchy jalapenos and I loooove those. Fries were good but pretty greasy. Over all, I prefer In-n-Out, but I do want to come back and try a few other variations. A big bonus for this place is that they offer so many toppings, I love lots of toppings on my burgers. So I will come back and give it another chance with a new combo. Love having options. read more

Great tasting, fresh, meaty, filling, and juicy burgers. I absolutely must have the little bacon cheeseburger with grilled onions, and lettuce, with BBQ sauce and mayo. The bacon adds a little crunch to the already appetizing burger and it being "little" is more so a regular at some other burger joints. The Cajun fries are really great too. Plus, you can order hotdogs here, which are just as awesome, and yummy. They also have really great cajun fries, too. Doesn't hurt that they have all-you-can-eat peanuts to hold you over until your burger is done, either. Staff here are super funny and nice! The burgers are more expensive then most burger places but these are def worth it! Since it was my first timed I ordered the smaller version! It was still a good size. About the size of a mcd's double cheeseburger! I ordered mine with jalapenos and it was the bomb dig! Just the right amount of spicy and it tasted great with my free refill lemonade. The cup of fries is hue and took a while for my family to finish. I've been having a burger obsession lately, and I stopped by the Sunnyvale Five Guys when I happened to be in the area recently. I haven't been to Five Guys in a few years since there aren't any near me in SF, but I used to frequent the Sunnyvale and Redwood City locations when I worked in the South Bay. I remember Five Guys to be really good -- very juicy and meaty, with excellent fries and free peanuts -- a very worthy rival to In N Out. Unfortunately, it's just not as good as I remember it to be. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Super Duper, but my recent burger at Five Guys was OK/Good but not great. It was floppy and mushy, and a bit bland. The meat was not as flavorful as Super Duper or In N Out, and the fries were mushy, greasy, and a bit soft. The free peanuts, of course, were still great. Overall, I'm going to have to say that the next time I'm in the South Bay and hankering for a burger, I'm heading to In N Out. I came in to get a Keto (no bun) burger today- Which I did- and it was great. Issue I have is that I have read everywhere that if you get a Bacon Cheese Burger with no bun, they will give you extra bacon and cheese for no charge if you request it. I asked the kid at the register today and he knew nothing about this? Is this the only location not offering this for those who order the BACON CHEESE BURGER? Disappointed only because it's being advertised everywhere that this is standard for keto burgers. Please let me know if I need to escalate this inquiry to the Branch Manager?. First time at this Five Guys in Sunnyvale and things I liked about this one more than the SJ one: 1)Two doors! I don't need to exit through the queue of people waiting in line to order. 2)Bigger dining area which means more room for to-go order people like me to stand and wait. 3)Parking: lots more than the Curtner location...although at lunch, it does fill up. But in most cases, there is more parking. .5 star upgrade for the second exit and .5 star upgrade for the bigger spaces. Otherwise, everything else is the same from the fries choices to the way the burgers are made. Ironically, there's a Rubio's near each location(weird?), froyo shop(Pinkberry), and a Toys R Us within walking distance. Place your bets on where the next Five Guys will be and I'll bet that a Toys R Us and a Rubios will be nearby! Oh and the online ordering or ordering by text message is pretty sweet. They are now serving hand spun milkshakes. We past by, saw that milkshakes sign and immoderately knew we need a milkshakes break in this hot Saturday afternoon. Pro's: Taste's fresh, not bad for price. Con's: Pretty packed constantly. I'm not going to compare it to In-N-Out because I think it's two different types of burgers, so I don't think its fair base it off that. Little bacon burger all the way, it was so delicious. Its been so long that I've had a burger that wasn't at a fast food joint and tasted like real burgers you throw on the grill at a BBQ. And the bacon, that was cooked perfectly, crispy all the way, and never went soft during the meal. I think next time though, I'll get the regular burger, because the little size wasn't enough for me. Cajun fries are good, not really spicy in my opinion. So I think I'll get regular from now on. It's located in a new retail space on the corner of South Sunnyvale Ave. & E El Camino Real. The parking lot is connected to the Toys R' Us parking lot if you miss the first entrance. The bottom line is that Five Guys Burgers & Fries is a step above In & Out's greasy burgers that give you heart burn. These burgers are made the way you would make them if you could step behind the counter and they don't skimp on the bacon. You can see a pile of bacon on all the bacon burgers they are prepping. Most people complain that they weren't blown away, but if you really expect to have a life altering experience at a burger place you've seen too many action movies. I consider these burgers to be healthier than In & Out's only if you get it with all the vegi toppings. It has a good taste, but I feel that there isn't a lot of seasoning that goes into the burger. I think the patties are purposely low in salt, but this may enhance the flavor. On average you'll pay a $1.50 than In & Out. The Pros: 1. Not as crowded as In & Out. 2. Hamburger wasn't greasy (at a lot of burger places the bun seems soaked in grease). 3. Cleanly restaurant. 4. All the topping are free, so you can essentially get a premium burger for a few dollars more than In & Out. 5. You can also get vegi burgers, hot dogs, & Kosher hot dogs. The Cons: 1. The patties are thin. 2. No grilling options (I.E. Medium Rare). 3. No garlic as a toping or seasoning. 4. No different types of cheese. 5. No Milk Shakes (WTF!! This a basic thing a burger place should have in California). My Opinion: In order to make this a five star burger joint they need to have Milk Shakes, season the meat more or have meat seasoning options, have thicker burgers, and have grilling options. And the regular bacon cheeseburger is only $6.19 - not need to sit, wait to be served, and tip for a delicious burger. My burger was perfect! The meat wasn't dry. No topping out did the other. It was balanced and sooo good! And to top it off the tasty cajun fries! Score! The professionalism doesn't seem up to par with In & Out's, but its a burger spot, so it is what it is. I love my In & Out and will go there for more fresher flavor, since they load their burgers with fresh(er) tomato and lettuce. But when I want 'the works', a fully loaded burger - I am going here. We stood in line for lunch, ordered and got our meal with 5-7 minutes. while we waited, they encouraged us to get unlimited free peanuts. My burger was juicy, greasy and huge!! And we got the large fries which were cooked to perfection!! They were definitely have that crunch when you bite into fries. I came to this Five guys location for like 2 years. It has been great. Solid 5 stars like other locations in the East Coast. But for my experience in recent months (~3 months), it has been bad. The food from this Fives Guys made me sick, literally, my stomach was not happy - you could say I have gotten food poisoning once. I will not come back to this location for awhile because I do not want to get sick. The burger is really moist and the meat isn't crispy anymore. Taste bad and makes you sick. I liked the bun too. I didn't really like the texture or taste of the fries - I prefer either it taste more like potatoes or have a crispier more thinly cut fries. Theirs were somewhere in-between, like it didn't know what it wanted to be. I'm still undecided on the "cajun" part of the fries, since the cajun part seems to be just seasoning added after frying. I guess I was expecting jack's curly fries or something. I very much love how they have multiple iced tea options rather than just plain soda. I totally loved washing the burger down with unsweetened iced tea. They also had green tea, regular sweetened black tea, and sweet tea. Offering A&W root beer is good too. Yum. So that summarizes it - burgers, fries, and soda/iced tea. What else can you ask for? (A good beer!) I've been to a few other Five Guys locations, so I was expecting this one to be just as good. I ordered a hot dog with A1 sauce and grilled jalapeños. When I got it, I opened up the bun and saw the saddest jalapeño slices I've ever seen and no sauce. Today I was there to eat brunch and Overheard a delivery guy picking up a customer's order asking if he could use the restroom quick. The manager outright and high-handedly refused the guy's request and said that restrooms are for customer's use only. This is the only Five Guys location I continue to visit. The staff are always welcoming and attentive. However, this past weekend my family and I had visited this location for dinner. We had two issues during our visit. The lettuce in the burgers were old and the shake was too watery. We never had a problem with this location before. Such a shame. I placed an order online for the Sunnyvale location to be delivered. FiveGuys.com gave me a message about not being able to do orders at Sunnyvale before 11:45. Fine, I picked a later time. The submit order button took a few tries before it accepted the order. Then my order confirmation message says my order is going to Prospect Road in San Jose. Whaa? I call up the Prospect Rd. location to say I don't want my order made there and delivered cold. They couldn't do anything about cancelling/refunding/redirecting the order. The burgers can be good, except the buns are lame. They are like wonder bread and turn to mush from the stuff you put on your burger. read more

I heard a GREAT joke the other day. This guy said "five guys is way better than in-n-out." I laughed for five minutes straight. Whoever has the audacity to even compare these two burgers should be ashamed of themselves. The burgers are big. Yes. They are bigger than in-n-out. But just because they're bigger doesn't mean they taste better. And yes you can add bacon. But if you add bacon to dirt you just have dirty bacon. The actual patty itself isn't bad but it's nothing special. And these burgers are so sloppy. They are impossible to eat without making a mess. You'll need a lot of napkins to contain the fallout from your burger. The bun also gets soggy from all of the excess muck. The fries aren't bad and are way better than the burger. No. People would still be talking about the burgers. So the fact that the peanuts are such a big deal just goes to show that the burgers themselves are worthless.
