It was not only the perfect burger, but unlike most chains the fries were piping hot! A huge deal in my world!! All the topping and malt vinegar for the fries. The new razzle dazzle coke machines offered up every kind of soft drink. MANAGER NOTE: Now for the most important comment. There was a staff of three and never stopped working. Not ever! Anyone who thinks this should even be mentioned in the same sentence as In-N-Out needs to have his or her head examined. Repeatedly. Five Guys is not bad by any means, but it's hardly overwhelming. It's just underwhelming, or uh, whelming at best. The burgers themselves are just average. They're a bit too thin and well-done for my taste and actually kind of reminded me of Johnny Rockets burgers (not in a good way). I did like that they had fresh ingredients and had a wide variety to choose from (I got A-1 sauce on my burger, which was pretty cool). But it hardly knocked my socks off. I wondered aloud if they were offering so many toppings and choices to offset such a bland burger. At In-N-Out, the burger speaks for itself. This one doesn't. I'd also heard much about the fries, namely that "if you don't like the burgers, you'll at least love the fries!" Um...no. The fries were greasy, soft and forgettable. They were barely even "fries." More like soggy potato wedges. Look, it's like this. If you just handed me one of these burgers on the street without telling me anything else, I would thank you for the free burger and not inquire further about where the burger came from and how I could get another. Worst fries ever! So being a bit of a Finance guy, I happened to discover this restaurant through a finance magazine I read. It was included in an article that explained how the company started and so on and so forth. I thought to myself, "COOL" where can I find one, I jumped on google and soon found this location was opening up. So I went to their "Grand Opening" and just like the rating bar says, "Meh. I've experienced better." It was way over-hyped. Eating out, I have always considered to be a luxury and to prop out $12 for a nasty burger and salty tasting fries? No thanks! The burger? 2/5. First I want to comment that, trying to compare Five Guys' food with In N Out's is futile. Just because both serve burgers doesn't make their products comparable. It's like trying to compare Sizzler with Mastro's. They're not in the same league. Nor are they trying to attract the same market. Each has its unique, and perhaps important, role. But I wouldn't consider them competitors. I'm not convinced that, even if they were comparable, I'd choose In N Out on a regular basis for a pleasant meal. It attracts highschool and college kids who want a cheap meal and who sit there goofing on each other, doing annoying things like tearing up napkins, along with disgusting things like burping and farting. To give them stink-eye only eggs them on, prompting them blatantly stare at you and burp even more all the while laughing hilariously. That element of society is not present (for the most part) at Five Guys. I'm happy to pay a little more for a pleasant meal. Five Guys has what I'll call a "loose" burger. The patty hangs together but very loosely. I don't know where other Yelpers came up with the word "regular" to describe a size or style burger at Five Guys. There is not and never has been a "regular" burger. Yelpers referring to anything "regular" probably have not actually been to this restaurant... and if they did, they ought to lose credibility for inaccurate reporting. You can order a "little" burger (one patty), or a "big" burger (two patties). No "regular". The kids who take your order are nice and helpful. There is a wide array of choices of items that you can add to your burger for no extra charge. I like the mushrooms, lettuce, and onions. When the burger arrives, it is in a soft, yeasty bun... obviously freshly made; similar to Subway rolls. Doesn't it drive you crazy to go into a Subway and wait a tortuous several minutes for your sammy while smelling that luscious yeastiness? It's similar here. When your order is ready, it's easy to figure out who gets what. The burgers are numbered on the outside and the number matches to each burger order on the receipt, which is attached to the paper bag with your stuff in it. I like it that we don't need to examine the food before finding out who it belongs to. The burger patties are lightly seasoned, so you're going to get most of your flavor out of the extra items you choose with your burger. If you order bacon, you'll be pleased that it's crisp, thick, and smokey. To sum it up, the burger's flavor is as good as you order it. The texture is very good, the beef quality is high, and the doneness is thorough without being over-cooked. Five Guys fries are really good. They're long and thick, fried at a proper temperature so they don't absorb oil, and are properly salted / seasoned. And, I'm sorry but In N Out's fries are only good when hot. Once cold they're nasty, skinny, shriveled-up lard sticks. And why would somebody dream of complaining that 5 Guys gives TOO MUCH fries? Feh! Anyway, the Cajun fries are good and for two people, there are PLENTY in the small order. The fountain drinks are fine. I'd love it if they were to have a passion fruit / tropical tea. But maybe that's just wishful thinking. You can eat roasted peanuts and sip your beverage to tide you over til your order is ready. The indoor eating area is loud and chaotic. I much prefer to eat out on the patio. The music is so loud that the people calling out order numbers can barely be heard. I can live without the self-promoting article reprints and quotes all over the walls. This type of thing doesn't add to customer comfort. It smacks of "look at us, we rock!" Give me a break. I don't understand how people can compare this place to In-n-Out, the only similarity they share is that they both serve burgers and have read and white interior. A better comparison would be to Fudruckers, or The Counter. You go in there, you get a generic burger and you pick what you want on it. In this respect I find Five Guys to be superior to both places. The quality of food is not as high as The Counter, but the price is a lot more palatable, and Five Guys, in my humble opinion, beats Fudruckers in every way possible. The only advice I have for people who go to this place is that a "small" fries is big enough for 3 people, and the fries are spicy, kind of cajun style. They also tend to cook them so the potato is stil a bit raw on the inside, so they aren't fluffy and crispy like McDonald's fries or something. Was really looking forward to a Five Guys burger and fries but apparently they now only serve well done burgers. The counter person said it's the only way they can be cooked? I heard so much hype about this place having 'amazzzzzzing burgers' so of course, I had to go try it. I definitely wasn't blown away by the burgers. Nothing special. I'm more taken by In n' Out. I do like 5 Guy's fries though (thicker cut). Maybe I'm not a fast food junkie, but I don't think this place is anything to rave about. I don't normally eat burgers, but when I do Five Guys is at the top of my list. Why is that you may ask? Well, Five Guys burgers are juicy, meaty, flavorful patties on a delicious soft sesame seed bun. What also makes them special is you can add unlimited toppings for free, you can choose one or two patties and finally, you can also choose hot dogs and grilled cheese (also which can be topped with as many toppings as you can handle). What makes Five Guys the absolute best though are the Cajun Fries. The Cajun fries are spicy, hand-cut and pure greasy heaven. They are truly the perfect complement to a delicious burger (or grilled cheese or hot dog). Five Guys in Thousand Oaks has friendly staff, fairly quick service and two nice patios to enjoy your burger and cajun fries. My adventure to this five guys included a single cheeseburger with A1, mustard, tomatoes, mushrooms and onions. It was messy, it was delicious and it was cheesy. The cajun fries were perfectly fried and heavily spiced and survived the rest of the afternoon to be eaten as a snack. Burger Breakdown: The Food: Hmmm, oh so deliciously tasty, fatty, greasy and delicious The Value: $8 and change for the burger and fries. Pricey? A touch, but a small fry is enough to feed a small family for the day. The Experience: Just the way Five Guys should be! Fast, friendly and playing old school music. Just got home from checking this place out with a couple of friends and I can't say it was even worth the 82 mile round trip! Anyway, I tried the regular bacon cheeseburger with everything, fries, and a drink. While they were pretty generous with the fries, the food doesn't justify the $12+tax on a meal. I've had way better burgers for less. While I do like that the variety of toppings they add, when they are all thrown together they don't really stand out. This place is WAY over hyped for being the East Coast's answer to In-N-Out. There has to be better! The burger wasn't bad, but it wasn't special. It didn't have a distinct taste to it to set it apart from the rest. As some other people have said, it is basically Wendy's with a bigger price tag. It might deserve a 2-star. So President OBAMA made "5 Guys" famous back in 2008 when he ate it a coupla times his first year as president and it hit the news cycle. As a burger enthusiast, it really was criminal that it took so long for me to finally make it to a Five Guys, but I finally took the plunge to give it a proper go. Star 1: How was the service and atmosphere? However, the burger is what I was here for, and for $6.54, I got an average-sized burger with some nice extras (jalapenos, etc.). Nothing huge, but $7 isn't absurd these days for a fast casual burger. Star Granted. Stars 3 and 4: How was the food? Maybe it's In n' Out, or The Habit, or most certainly The Ranch, but the Agoura / Westlake / TO area has turned me into the stingiest of critics when it comes to burgers. I gotta be honest. I have a bit of an irrational thing against Five Guys because they're an East Coast chain trying to sholder their way into my beloved In-N-Out's turf. That being said, they're actually quite different from In-N-Out. They're more expensive, but there's more variety on the menu. (Hot dogs with bacon and cheese? Oh man... Why do you DO that to me?) They also have free peanuts in the shell for you to nosh on while you wait. I think, in the end, if there's a Five Guys and an In-N-Out next to eachother, I'm going to In-N-Out (they have shakes after all), but when I'm in the neighborhood where some of my friend's live and there isn't an In-N-Out near by but there is a Five Guys? The coolest thing about this place is that they customize every burger by allowing you to add only the toppings that you want, no matter how many you want, at no extra charge. The place was clean. We sat outside, because we had the kids with us. The food came up pretty quick. The food is average at best. We went there because someone told my husband that they have the best spicy fries ever. Well, let me lay it out for you. Their spicy fries are just fries with Cajun flavoring. Noting spicy or special about them. For a burger place, there is no kids menu or kids portions. This is a wonderful burger place! The menu was a bit confusing at first but I had a friend with me who had been before so she explained it to me. She advised me to get the jr. burger with cheese and I ordered fries to go with it. I was amazed at how many fries they gave me. Make sure you get plenty o' napkins cuz good eats are meant to be messy! I don't much care for the wait as delayed gratification is not my strong suit. There is an in-n-out not too far away. Should probably go there. The fries are limp and not that tasty. Also they give you way too many fries. When you order, get a small order of fries. They will just fill the bag to the top. I'm not sure what a large order could even be. The burger is fine, no real complaint. In 'N' Out still wins for me.....sorry.........but the FLAVOR of the burger is quite good at Five Guys. A key attraction to this place, though, is that you can build your own burger toppings......they have some interesting additions (mushrooms being key for me). That part is fun and can add to the overall flavor experience. However, I actually prefer my burgers without the buns, and this place will NOT do it that way......it's a burger on a bun, and that's it. I was disappointed with that aspect. i had a great experience at five guys. the costumer service was delightful, the music was right on point, the bright happy faces of the workers was infectious, and not to mention the food was delicious. i would say that this is by far the best burger i have ever tasted. you get to choose any topping on your burger for no extra price and the regular burger comes with 2 patties. tasting the burger is like going back to a summertime barbecue in the backyard with your family. overall, five guys would definitely be a place to go when you're craving that juicy taste of a burger to bring you back. read more

Among all the toppings, the only one you have to pay for is bacon...The fact that it's an option make is a nice plus for me... 4.) Cajun fries...Enough said... The previous five were enough to boost this place from two stars to three... No bias reviews here, five guys make a good burger. The meat is juicy and thick but the bun was pretty bleh. The first thing I noticed was the free peanuts, random or what? Maybe not but it did make the place a little messy with shells everywhere and face it its a death trap if you have a peanut allergy! I read all these amazing reviews online about how awesome these guys were - how they are better than In & Out, etc. etc. etc. So I roped my mom and boyfriend into going to lunch there today. First off for the three of us our lunch cost $22. That's nearly double as much as In & Out would have. The lady at the counter was super friendly and nice. I was intrigued by the amount of toppings offered for the burgers. My bf was upset they only do the burgers well done. I was also not really impressed by the lay out of the restuarant. The inside chairs are super uncomfortable, the outside tables we had a bee bugging us. The free peanuts were a nice touch, but kind of out of place. It was VERY LOUD inside. The staff was using the microphone to call order #'s to the outside and it was squeaking horribly! The decor leaves a little to be desired as well. I just kind of think it's funny when a place has to constantly tell you how amazing they are, and how great everyone says they are all over the dining area. It should have been my first clue... Well, we got our food in a to go bag, which is a little annoying. Our burgers were super messy. The topping proportions were not enough. Mom said if she had known she would have order double mushrooms. The boyfriend said the jalapenos were raw and not spicy, the onions ruined the burger because the taste was off. Our patties were small and took up only about half the bun, they were dry and tasteless. I didn't care for the fries at all. The cup of fries was pretty much empty, with all of them being rolled at the bottom of the bag. I felt they were overdone and just not tasty in general. When we left I was disappointed. I would have rather gone to the Jack in the Box across the street. Needless to say I won't be going back and I suggest you skip them all together. So finally gave this place a shot since its right up the street from my work, needless to say.. I wont be coming back here anytime soon. As soon as you step in, reminds you of a different version of in-n-out instantly, with peanut bags all over. Went to order and the young blond girl there had an attitude as if she was ready to pull the trigger on herself. Horrible service from her by all means. After ordering single burger, small fries and a drink total came up to $11 bucks.. While waiting, you can grab and munch on the peanuts around. Burger... mehhh it was okay.. really nothing special at all.. Fries.. were good.. just insanely greasy.. and you get a bunch of them.. But, I dont see myself coming back here anytime soon.. What do you mean you don't eat meat?! Okay...I'll have a Five Guys Burger with Bacon, Onions, and Jalapenos! I seriously rarely eat red meat unless it's Bulgogi or an occasional carne asada street taco but it's extremely rare you see me biting into a burger. I eat mostly vegetarian or seafood...and cook vegan at home but when I'm outside of my house, all bets are off. I'll eat whatever I feel like but try to pace myself so that the majority of my meals are vegetarian. A few months back some friends at work invited me to Five Guys for lunch. I thought..."what am I going to eat?" Then I decided I'll try a burger but ask that it's cooked well done. I know most people like their beef not cooked as much but it's the way I like it. We walked in and there were some choices I had to make. I've been known to go to a place like IN-N-Out with a small menu that never changes and take some time to decide what I want...always ending up ordering the same thing. In this case, I had never been there before. As I got closer to the counter, I knew I had to make some decisions...okay...um...if I'm going to eat meat...I might as well go big and get BACON! This is what makes their burger in my opinion...their bacon is perfectly crispy with the right portion. I also ordered the Cajun Fries. It's a lot of fries so you can share them if you go with someone else. In fact, that's what we did...we shared the fries. One bite of the burger and two bites of the fries...perfect! I'm suddenly a burger fan...even when I used to eat meat more often, I rarely went for the burger. Later, I found myself in the Dulles Airport eating a Five Guys Burger with Bacon...and some Cajun Fries! Ahhh-yeahhh! If you're not much of a burger fan but peer pressure is weighing on you...go ahead and try a Five Guys Burger...trust me...it's safe. Cheers! read more

Prices for a burger is way to expensive !! They need them to be cheaper I don't have that much money

Well, I am glad I can finally cross this place off my list. My friends have been bugging me to try 5 Guys for over a year. I ordered the Bacon Cheeseburger and it was fine. It is a good burger, but I do not understand why people rave about this place so much. I guess they are really used to some REALLY bad burgers or something. The french fries looked like they would taste great, but they were bland and moving toward cold very quickly. I was the only person ordering anything when I walked in--everyone else (about 6 people) was eating. So why am I being served fries that are barely room temp.? I do not plan on coming back and would definately choose In-N-Out over them anytime. read more

Why are you still closing at 6? Is dinner time not a great opportunity to make money? I really want to give you guys a chance since I fell in love with Five Guys when I lived in a different city, but it's like you don't even want my money. Also pretty stingy on the fries, I used to get half of a bag full of fries when ordering the Regular size. This joke of a restaurant really makes me miss my old Five Guys. read more
