More than fantastic. Unique, friendly, a variety of pastries to try, and bread for sale - there's so much to love here. The space is large - it looks like a pseudo-barn converted into a bakery. Throw in some Restoration Hardware-esque tables and chairs, high ceilings, with cute rustic decor, and you have this place. It's homey, it's comforting, it's a place you can spend time working, grabbing coffee with a group, or just a place to relax and enjoy the quaint and charming atmosphere. We visited on a Saturday afternoon during a day trip to Buffalo, and picked up one of their famed whole wheat cinnamon buns to try. It was soft, chewy, and light. It definitely tasted healthier than your run-of-the-mill usual cinnamon bun. They even gave us extra frosting on top that made it extra delicious. We would definitely get this again. As well, they have a variety of products on sale (various breads, honey, etc) - some breads were even sugar free. We'll definitely back to try out more of their pastries when we're in the area again. When my sister-in-law suggested that we try the "toast bar" I must admit I was intrigued. She talked up the flavor as well as the presentation and she was not wrong! Each dish that came out was a newly created masterpiece that Picasso, had he been a chef, would have been proud of. If you don't believe me, look at the photos. Each plate came with it's own special utensil and container to fit the needs of what was being served. The toast itself was beyond delicious. I love cheese and had to order the Apple Cider with triple cream brie. I was not expecting the generous portion of brie that came with the price. Five points does not skimp on quantity. Five Points Bakery is one of the true Hidden Gems in all of Buffalo. If you are in from out of town this is definitely not a place to be missed, especially for breakfast. When I think bakery I basically image a wonderland of carbs that should be avoided for the betterment of my waistline. Furthermore, very few bakeries really offer dining services, merely scads of scones (Would you prefer a plethora of pastries?). What I love about Five Points though is Toast...yeah Toast... "I get up in the morning round 6 a.m., grab a little jelly, grab a little jam..." Five Points Bakery makes their own flour, bakes everything fresh and sources locally. You can also buy shares in the place and get a little piece of the vig (i.e., free bread). It's a hippie wonderland which will soon be dominated by hipsters. But this place makes their bread with love, and their Toast...yeah Toast.. I opted for their multigrain bread with homemade cream cheese and pickled hot peppers marinated in garlic and oregano. This is breakfast!! A little hot pepper to wake you up, the smell of fresh bread toasting...so nice! My girlfriend opted for the cinnamon raisin bread with chunky peanut butter and fresh apple, and the halfling (our resident 7 year old) opted for the cinnamon roll bread with icing. Other choices which I will definitely sample in the future include their power bread with gruyere and a hard boiled egg, "Buffalo-style" toast (yeah Toast) with a spicy cheddar hot sauce and artisan style pickles, and their German Bread with sauerkraut and raclette!! So many choices for Toast...yeah Toast!! They had a wonderful organic coffee with a hemp aroma and a smooth finish. We also stocked up on some locally sourced wildflower honey. I've had such a crush on Five Points for months. I'd pass by and look at it with longing, try to get information about it online, rack my brain for an excuse to stop in, and fantasize about taking it out on a date....that didn't quite happen, but I did go on a date with a human male here, and my little crush has become love. This place fits perfectly into the New Buffalo Aesthetic without crossing the line into being intimidatingly hip. The building is well suited to the leafy, quiet street it's on and doesn't seem to be disrupting the neighborhood flow. Every staff member I interacted with was cheerful and polite, and the warm wood interior, mismatched flatware, and borderline erotic scent of fresh bread made me wish this were my living room. I got here around 9:30 AM on a Sunday expecting to beat the rush, but the interior dining room was already packed and the patio filled up before I left. Not that I can blame anyone - if I lived any closer, I'd be here all the time. It's everything you could ask of a local cafe. Now on to the actual food! Discovering the existence of the apple cider toast is the thing that finally got me to make the 20 minute drive down here, and it didn't disappoint. Think apple pie in bread form, then add triple cream brie. My compliments to the establishment for serving the cheese at room temperature, when it's at its most spreadable and flavorful. I also tried the brown sugar tea, which I can't wait to come back and get on a cold day. My dining companion is a bit of a rye bread aficionado and spoke very highly of his marble rye toast with charcuterie. On our way out, we picked up a bag of various bread heels (75 cents!) and got to try a few of the other breads, which were all super dense and flavorful. After spending a random Friday off for the kids at the Buffalo Museum of Science, where we did battle with crowds of enthusiastic Curious George fans for the chance to interact with exhibits, we were all fairly exhausted and hungry. I told the kids I would find a treat, and the Yelp ap directed me here. Now, seeing "bakery" I was expecting glass front cases and cupcakes, etc. Having only skimmed the reviews before setting off, I just thought maybe everyone around here really likes toast... it did not occur to me that the actual emphasis of the establishment was in fact, toast. The confusion must have been all over my face, because the woman behind the counter kindly guided me through their toast selections (a hearty mix of healthy, savory, sweet, etc.) as well as the more typical sweets available, as she knew the tiny people who accompanied me were more about the chocolate chips than the brie and bread. My kids also pulled a fast one on me and picked two 12 oz juices from the case (for $2.75 a piece) and as my kids are more of the Capri Sun than the cold pressed fresh juice variety, quickly exclaimed they did not like it. Oh, kids. So cute. I ordered the sourdough ciabatta bread with nutella, as well as an iced coffee. The portion of buttered toast was generous and delicious, and the iced coffee was also amazing (with special ice cubes that I take from another review were covered in a special rub? Whatever it was- fantastic.) My kids devoured a cowboy cookie, a brownie and a chocolate chip cookie respectively (I have three kids- not one, overly enthusiastic sweet lover) before they disappeared under the stairs to play with a decent selection of toys. My son fell in love with a transformer that I think was clearly from the 80s, and we are lucky he was able to put it down for a nap and leave it there. While they played, I was able to savor each bite (rather than fight off little fingers desperate to steal my Nutella) and sip my coffee. Sitting there, you really appreciate the beautiful atmosphere of the place- so much exposed wood and subtle touches like the fancy utensils and old-school sugar container (which I ruthlessly hoarded without shame.) I loved this place so much, I tried to figure out how to go back today. Being out in the burbs, this proved difficult, but I have a plan for when some out of town guests come next weekend. Despite its location on the border of the Westside, this place is anything but ghetto. It's more like a tiny slice of indie bakery heaven, and I love that it's a block from my apartment. This place is famed for its cinnamon rolls, and for good reason. They're made from hearty whole wheat dough, and they go perfectly with the delicious house coffee (regular only -- no espresso drinks as of yet). They've won a slew of prizes for both from every publication in town, so if you've only got one shot at this place, get the coffee and rolls! However, if you're local, you'd best be stopping in often. 'Cause Five Points offers a slew of other local groceries to go along with your breakfast: local milk, eggs, cheese, meat, honey, and amazing White Cow Dairy yogurt, in more flavors than the Lexington Co-op carries (albeit at a slightly higher markup). They make their own house brown sugar (in re-usable jars that you can re-fill, presumably, at the bakery), and sell big ol' jars of granola, too. They also offer a variety of their breads toasted each day, with complementary sides like hard-boiled eggs, egg salads and goat cheese to spread on top. To top it off, they offer free wi-fi and one free re-fill -- so you can park it here all day long and sample (almost) everything! And if you're on a grocery mission, you can stop next door at Urban Roots (a gardening store) for seeds, herb plants, and soap. Toast? Toast!!! I was so confused when I walked in. A menu full of toast? Was I missing something? I had no idea what to order because I just wasn't expecting a menu full of toast. I totally get it now. This isn't your average toast. This is fancy, delicious, homemade bread with fun toppings. I was going back and forth on what type of toast to order but was convinced when the girl behind me mentioned that she ordered the special the day before and loved it (multigrain with ricotta and heirloom tomatoes). I went with it. I also ordered an iced coffee to go with it. They give you your coffee at the counter and a number for your table for your order. I tried the iced coffee before adding cream and sugar. I typically like iced coffee black. I thought it was cool that they used coffee ice cubes and pour hot coffee over it. I wasn't impressed with the taste of the black iced coffee but I really liked it with cream and sugar syrup. There was more seating than I expected there to be. We were able to find a table in the back which had a nice breeze with the barn doors open. Our food was brought to us quickly at our table. I really liked the plating of the food. They use unique dishes and silverware to serve everything on. It really added to the experience. My friend and I liked it so much that we grabbed a menu, marked what we ordered, and have turned it into a checklist of what to try each time we go. I cannot say enough good things about Five Points Bakery. I went for the first time this morning and I loved everything about it. The ambiance is amazing...so rustic and homey. Somewhat of a hippy feel but it just adds to the atmosphere. Who would have thought toast, cheese, and jams could be so delicious. I ordered the oatmeal toast with farmers cheese and plum cherry jam with an apple added on. My boyfriend ordered the granola with yogurt. We got two cups of coffee and of course had to try the cinnamon roll that everyone raves about. I wasn't sure what to expect upon waiting for my food but I was not disappointed. The first thing I noticed was how beautifully and delicately everything was plated. Absolutely amazing. It all tasted delicious...my toast was hot and the perfect softness and the combination of the cheese and jam was out of this world. My boyfriend really enjoyed his food as well. And as for the cinnamon roll...wow. I'm going to leave it at that. All of the workers are so friendly and I love the open style kitchen. Wow, how have I not reviewed this yet? Golly, I come here as much as I can! Five Points combines a lot of things for me that make it an important place in Buffalo. It has purpose, ingenuity, grassroots, activism, homegrown, cinnamon rolls, and coffee. That basically means its perfect - right? I cannot rave enough about the cinnamon rolls. Their toast meals are also quite great. My favorites tend to be the goat cheese and power bread combo, as well as a cheddar bread and blue cheese dip combo. The latter is not for the weak of heart, but it will certainly wake you up for a great day! The atmosphere is great - I love sitting in here for hours. People are of all types, talkative, and kind. I'm there right now, actually, and must stop typing so I can return to my cinnamon roll. read more

Holy gazunga! So I first heard about the concept of a toast bar years ago on an NPR segment. There were several in California and people would just line up outside the door...for toast. I thought, man that's gotta be some good toast or people just buy anything that's trendy. It might be a little of both (this is a trendy place), but holy smokes their toast really is good! So where do I start? This place is a little gem. The inside looks like a reallt old-fasioned bakery based on the brick walls with high ceilings meant to let the air out instead of bake the inhabitants. You can see all the cooking right in front of you and there is plenty of seating. What I love the most, even if I am not out there, is the outdoor seating. There's this beautiful mass of trees outside that you wouldn't expect in this house-rich area. The patio itself seems quiet and secluded despite this place being busy often. Now onto the food. You walk up, order from the menu hanging above (usually sweet or savory, plus a few sides). I had iced coffee with coffee ice cubes so it wasn't watered down. For toast, it was a cinnamon raisin w peanut butter brown sugar and apples. Holy smokes! Thick yet not too dense buttered toast-very flavorful and rich w raisins and walnuts, the Apple was cut in a cute spiral, the peanut butter and brown sugar were on the side (which is great bc I don't really need much sugar). I could have honestly been happy w buttered toast alone at Five Points. Definitely check this place out. So I've been coming here for years every time I'm in Buffalo and the toasts and cinammon rolls are the best. The presentation of the toasts and all of the delightful spreads and cheeses and sides are so amazing. This time seeing that they had added breakfast sandwiches to the mix I was excited to try one. I ordered a simple egg and cheese. My friends got beautiful toasts (as expected) but my egg and cheese was flat and uninspired. The bread was cold, the cheese was not melted and the egg didnt even look like a real egg. I took a couple bites but it was not good and not to the expectations that I have from Five Points. This quaint, earthy joint serves fresh baked products that are made with the most quality ingredients, including house milled flour, local honey, and farm fresh eggs and butter. I am impressed with how seriously they take the local food movement. In addition to their bread, they sell local farmers' products, such as meat, cheeses, yogurt, eggs, and butter. As everyone's said, their cinnamon rolls are delicious. At first glance they appear small, and I had my doubts that it would fit my breakfast bill. However, since it's whole wheat (fresh milled) flour, it was very filling. They are a bit too dense to beat out my all time favorite wheat cinnamon roll, but they're damn near. Their coffee was also good. It complimented the cinnamon rolls well, and I appreciated the free refill. We wanted to try their breads so we bought several slices toasted and buttered. Best decision ever. It's lame to say, but the warm bread with the soft center, perfectly toasted crunch, and farm-fresh butter melting all over it was the best thing I ate that day! So wonderful...especially the sharp cheddar bread. If you like what you taste, you can buy a share in the company which comes with bread perks. The head baker was also terribly sweet and accommodating, which was a nice contrast to her hired hand for the day who seemed a bit frazzled and unsure of what she was doing (and rightfully so since she did not officially work there and was brought in out of staffing desperation). I was a bit skeptical about a place that specialized in "toast", but I was always a big fan of bakeries, so I was up for something new. I came with my boyfriend who is a local and we actually visited Five Points' new location in the west side. Their menu is very simple but exactly what I liked about it. Everything in the bakery is visible to the public, so you can see the large industrial ovens behind the counter where the magic happens. Overall, seating was limited on the first floor but business was just picking up at this time. There is a seating area on the second floor but at the time, it was closed. I ordered the cinnamon raisin toast which came with peanut butter, cinnamon sugar and a sliced apple. Presentation is definitely something they care about here. Two thick slices of toasted cinnamon raisin bread were cut in half and placed on a plate next to a small container of peanut butter, a tiny cup for my cinnamon sugar to be sprinkled and a spiral cored apple. I had a cup of coffee (free refills!) on the side and the experience was everything. I would love to come back on a weekday in the morning and sit in the corner and read a book. This is a great first date location and I would recommend bringing anyone new to Buffalo as it is definitely a great treat and something different! read more

As someone who lives on the west side of buffalo there isn't much on the side of good, healthy, and affordable food stuffs. Five Points bakery is the best place that I can get to in five minutes. Their coffee, iced or hot, is delicious. You can also feel like a special butterfly by using any number of sweeteners and creamers that they offer. I can't even begin to talk about their toast. I tend to frequent the classic wheat with strawberry jam but the fact that I could stray to a goat cheese is nice. I have even purchased their whole loaves to make French toast at home. Everything is delicious. Especially now that summer is coming I tend to disconnect from the world by going to Five Points and reading a book for hours on end. The music is just loud enough to provide atmosphere even if the place is packed. In short I love Five Points. If you're looking for a full meal this is not the place for you. If you're down to hang out, drink some coffee, and munch on some local goodness then this is the spot for you. read more

The only comparable product in Buffalo is Breadhive, but Five Points' product is more interesting with a more developed crumb. --- In response to Cristina: I really cannot believe the comments about this place being unsanitary (gloves are not needed to handle food), "not kid friendly", and "in the hood." Five Points recently relocated across the street and their new location is beautiful on Brayton St.! Full of character including exposed breams, brick, and a funky bar seating area. We spent a good amount of time just looking around at all the different details that were put into the new space. The entrance to the new space is a little tricky to figure out mid-winter, but I think once it warms up it'll be a little easier to find. We ordered the Cinnamon Raisin Toast and the Cinnamon Swirl bread! I also got a hard boiled egg on the side of my toast. The portion sizes are always great and the presentation is impeccable... they use a bunch of vintage mix and match pieces as serve-ware and it really makes the presentation interesting each time.
