Brought in a KitchenAid 6 and 1/2 quart stand mixer before Christmas time to get it repaired for my wife. Paid a deposit for the part which was $80. I was told the remainder would be $120 and I could pick it up in a couple weeks. I said fine. Life happened and I couldn't get the money back in time for the two weeks so I called the guy and let him know that it would be a while before I could come up with the extra 120. Finally have my affairs in order today and found out on the phone with him that he already sold this mixer. What the hell am I supposed to do now? I was never told that this was the agreement that after 60 days it would be his. I was never informed of this and I never signed anything that stated this. What action can I take here? read more

I would give this shop 4.5 stars for the repair of my Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer. I researched online looking for KA repair around the entire Boston area and even considered one in NH after my mixer made a strange screeching noise for a few weeks. This was the most reasonable pricing of the few handful of shops that I called in the area. Before dropping my mixer off, I called to explain the issue, ask about prices and confirm hours (as previous Yelpers had suggested). Although I never got his name, the old man (who was at first difficult to understand over the phone with his accent) was helpful and knew what was wrong. If you're expecting 5 star customer service, this is not your place. If you want your stand mixer repaired by someone who looks as if he's been repairing them for 30-40 years, this if your place. The man is not overly friendly, but will answer any questions you have. He does a bunch of appliance repair and sees a lot of kitchen aids as well, there were a few there for repair and pick up when I dropped mine off. When I called to confirm his hours, he let me know there was a $50 CASH deposit when dropping off which covers labor and diagnostics, and then you pay for any additional parts needed. He had to replace a pretty large part on mine - he was honest and said the whole part cost him $90, but was able to salvage a part of my old one that he could use again and charged me $43 for the part. All in - I was happy to have my mixer back and running for $93 total (other Boston area shops quoted me $120+). When I got home, I was worried about the smell when I turned it on, called him and drove back again to make sure everything was okay. I'm no expert, so the smell seemed like an electrical issue but he took it apart right then and there the second time and confirmed no issues and told me when such a big part is replaced, often times you can smell it a little as the machine gets used to it. It's been a few months now back in it's glory and I don't even notice a smell anymore and it's been working great. Long story short, I searched high and low in the Boston area for someone who I could trust with my KA mixer that wouldn't charge me the cost of a new one to fix it, and I would recommend his shop! read more

I took a touch activated halogen lamp that is an unusual color to Fixmaster, because it was perfect for my needs and I could not find a replacement. It was not an expensive lamp but i thought I'd see if it could be repaired for a reasonable amount. The owner of the shop was very knowledgeable and he diagnosed it and ordered a part. When I picked it up he demonstrated that it worked and he chatted a bit about his life, which was very interesting. The charge was very reasonable and I was pleased to have my lamp back in perfect working order. This guy is a treasure and a repair whiz! read more

Well first of all, it was a waste of time and money to hire. None of them even have a special license to do sealed systems repairs. I know a professional that has all the special licenses to do all that but unfortunately they are in new York. I had them on the phone the whole time asking the technician questions that he apparently didn't know the answers too. The technician said it would be over $1 k to fix Which my professional friend that does this for a living and has all the licenses necessary that price was a rip off. I am so pissed off that I wasted the money for it. read more

Horrendous, this sums up my experience with Fixmaster. I took my dehumidifier here to be serviced and after paying over $100 to have it "fixed" it still does not work. The owner was rude and so unprofessional and told us we were using his business as storage and it always worked in his shop. I'd avoid at all cost. read more

I called Kitchen Aid to get a recommendation for an authorized KA repair business and they gave me and I've used FIX MASTER out in Salem, MA. I have been very happy with everything. If you decide to make the trip, as I did, be sure to verify his hours and that he's in, before going there. He's getting pretty old now and is likely cutting back some. When I told him the distance I came, he offered to fix my KA mixer while I hung out in the area, so I didn't have to make another trip back up there. Without my asking, he even demonstrated my mixer's repair, so I knew it was working, before I left. I was more than thrilled with the service I received. read more

This is the only place in the Boston area that I've found to fix a Kitchenaid mixer. Living in Waltham makes this a drive to get to his shop on Salem, but worth it. His customer service is lacking - but I can deal. Cash only. Sure. No niceties. Ok. I trust he will fix my appliance. But what I can't really take is him not being at the shop during the posted business hours. 2:15pm on a Thursday - shop sign says open, gates are locked shut in front of shop. That's frustrating. This shop tends to look like it's closed because the owner only opens up the metal gating in front of the door. When you first go inside the store does look a bit of a mess. There are all sorts of items in the store. But this guy does something that so few people do these days. He repairs appliances. Our trusty Kitchen Aid mixer (which is the most used appliance in our home) broke we were able to bring it in to be repaired. We managed to blow out the ball bearings. A new mixer would have cost at least $200, with labor included he did it for $85 (most of the cost was the new part). While the shop may not look like much the owner provides a rare service these days. And my trusty Kitchen Aid is back where it belongs. read more

What a throwback in time . My wife and I walked in there and the first thing we did was smile. Yeah it's a mess, but you don't see many places like this left. It will be a true loss when this is gone. I am repairing a Tiffany lamp and needed a switch. After 3 futile attempts in different stores I went here and he pulled out what I needed in 10 seconds. Kinda' threw an insult my way to boot and my reply was "I ain't as smart as I look" Nice to talk to a real person and not some robot. I have been driving by this place for years and the place has always looked closed. He charged me 7 bucks but I had no cash (he said "but you are old you should have cash...ouch..lol) so I wrote out a check for 10. Place is a true treasure. Needed a "Coupling" for my old Kitchen Aid blender. Research online showed it as an easy job so I was prepared to do it. KA support told me that the closest shop was Mixmaster. On my way I went. Yes - the place is old and musty. Sure - he wasn't a conversationalist. But, he had the part I needed on hand and I got my blender fixed in one day. Done and done. The part was $10, a bit more than online - but I had it in my hands and not a week away in the mail - and I knew it was the right part because I brought the blender with me. No returning/mailing back needed. Plus, it's a way of supporting a small locally owned business that's providing a service that's hard to find anymore - Countertop appliance repair. I asked about labor cost and he quoted $15. The price felt appropriate for the amount of work. Took me 15 min to fix it myself. It's not a glorious shopping experience by any means, but he had what I needed, was convenient, and reasonably priced. Plus, he gave my 3 yo. a big genuine smile... I lived in Salem up until this past summer and always passed this shop but never got around to taking my stand mixer here even though it has been broken for a year. As the holidays are approachIng I finally made the trip down from Maine this week. I told the owner this as I laughed at myself for waiting until I moved out of state to bring my mixer in. After hearing this he was kind enough to offer to fix my mixer within a couple of hours so that I wouldn't have to make the trip back down. I grabbed breakfast and did some shopping and was on my way home with my fixed mixer within a few hours. As other reviews have stated, he only accepts cash and does require a deposit. I was prepared to have a mediocre experience because of some the the reviews. Indeed, the shop looks closed because of the gate over the windows. And yes, it is an absolute disaster of a place inside. However, I found the owner to be welcoming and open to my questions. He repaired my KitchenAid Mixer in just two days, and it cost $85. I broke my Kitchenaid mixer on Christmas morning. I don't use is a lot but I couldn't stand the thought of not having one, but I also didn't want to spend $300+ on a new one. I brought it here and he fixed it in 2 days for $85. As other reviews have noted, the shop isn't pretty, but in my experience, the gentleman who owns it is a friendly and knowledgeable older man. When I picked it up today, he spent a fair amount of time telling me how to take better care of it "so you never have to come here again." If you have a small appliance that's not working, I highly recommend bringing it here. Call first...the hours aren't traditional and bring cash. Though the store is very old and tired, there is a very valuable service inside. A real 'diamond in the rough'. The owner has been doing this work for a long time and could tell that he's under-appreciated. I brought my KitchenAid mixer in on Thurs. 1/31 & just picked it up today (2/8) right as Blizzard Nemo began pelting the area. He had replaced the drive in the mixer's motor (the 'stir' setting wasn't working) & replaced the lock I bent a few years ago. Now it runs like a dream and all for less than $90. Was worth every penny -- especially since I didn't have to ship my mixer to Kitchenaid. I'll be going back with any other appliance I have that needs repair. He doesn't project the best customer service image but in person he was very helpful and provided a part for a 47 year old Sunbeam Mixmaster. Read the reviews and decided why not take a ride over and see what the cost would be? Location was just as described. Looked closed but it wasn't. The gentleman greeted me and was very courteous. Told me not a problem to fix and at a very reasonable price. He said it would only take about 15 minutes. Perfect. No waiting, no shipping, No hassle. The shop was filled with replica lampshades and light globes that told a story. Thought it was worth the trip He saved the appliance, I saved money and I helped a local merchant. This shop is the worst! I took my kitchenaid mixer here because it is the only kitchenaid certified repair shop in my area. The shop is 45 minutes away from Boston. I dropped it off and the guy said the repair would be $90 and asked me to leave a $40 deposit. Because the shop is so far away, it took me awhile before I was able to get back to pick it up. It had been there 3 weeks when the owner started calling me saying that I was trying to use his shop as a storage place for my mixer. (Like I am really going to drive 45 minutes away to store my mixer) He said he was going to start charging me storage fees and was immediately rude and confrontational. So the following weekend I made a trip out to Salem to pick it up. I arrived at 1:00pm on a Saturday and the shop was closed. I called the owner only to find out the shop is only open 9-3 on weekdays and from 9-12 on Saturdays. Which means I only had a 3 hour window to pick it up as I am a working professional. When I told this to the owner he insulted me and said "Ya I know what work you do". Not exactly sure what he was implying but it was rude nonetheless. He now said that I owed him $75 for the parts he needed to fix the mixer. I asked for the part numbers and names and called kitchenaid. They said the total cost for all the parts was only $30, confirming that this guy was ripping me off. When I finally got there to pick it up the guy said the new charge was $80 and he was not giving me my mixer back until I paid him in cash whatever he asked for. THIS GUY IS A RIP OFF ARTIST!
