Flaco's, oh precious Flaco's... where do I begin? Okay, I am from down south where Mexican food is AUTHENTIC. I take my Mexican food seriously almost to the point where it could sound annoying. Keep that in mind with this review. I was looking for a Mexican place that delivers, and this place definitely does. Late too. Call them. Order online. Parachute in. They take it all. I am the laziest of the lazy so I chose my delivery to happen via the internet. I placed my order which they said would take something like 60 minutes, but was actually more like 15. Maybe even less. Lightening fast. Probably flew on the wings of angels. Anyway. What sucks, is... well.. the food. KINDA. Okay, the chicken tacos are pretty good, but they don't even have 2 of the MOST CRUCIAL aspects of Mexican dining for me... QUESO, and ENCHILADAS. NONE. Neither. What's up with that? On the third time that I ordered from them I found "enchiladas" on their menu, but when they arrived they were simply flour tortillas folded in half with a lot of spicy green chili sauce poured on it.... Everything is pretty spicy too, and that red salsa will make you freakin CRY. Holy HOT. Their chips, however, are OUTSTANDING. If only they would just deliver chips and guacamole. Hu-mon-gous. That's my first thought when I saw the burrito, which I hardly ever order anywhere because I know I can't finish it in one setting. But I was in a burrito mood and both my colleagues ordered it so here we go. I like the wrap, which was surprisingly light and crispy. It was jam-packed with beans, veggies and al pastor. Coming from Pilsen I'm a bit of a Mexican food snob but have to admit this isn't too bad for this area. Good lunch option but come before noon to beat the rush. The food was very good. Especially the meat, which was flavorful and tender. The guacamole was delicious, and the chips were light and crispy. The tacos were tasty and I'd come back for those. I got a mango margarita, which wasn't worth the extra dollar for the waitress to pour some flavoring in the traditional margarita. The traditional would have tasted just as good. The reason I'm giving this place a 3 star review is because of the kitchen staff. When we ordered, the cashiers were rude and condescending, especially when we didn't know what certain menu items were or were unfamiliar with the logistics of the restaurant. My friend and I each ordered a margarita and got chips and guacamole. Trying to carry all that, the order numbers, and our bags outside was a mess and we were spilling our drinks as we tried to get outside. No one offered to help us. This was below par, and not in a good/golf way. Prices were reasonable and service was fast. But the food taste was very, very bland and the margarita was bad (of course, it was on special, so $4 for a bad margarita maybe isn't so bad). I had the chicken flautas dinner special; I can't say that I'm a flautas expert but the chicken was not so great. We came here starved after some shopping, and appreciated that it wasn't overly busy knowing that the area can be pretty busy since it's so close to the Mag Mile. I think there was a few tables left, and able to place our order right away. I got the Southwestern Chicken salad and was pleasantly surprised by the size and the taste as I wasn't expecting much. Flacos Tacos. Part 2. Yay! Another good spot to eat by my work. Albeit, it's a bit of a walk, but it's still good. Got here at 12:30ish. PACKED. Wall to wall burrito seekers. I got in line and I ordered a veggie burrito with guacamole on the side. It was ready REALLY fast, and I somehow scored a seat. I like efficiency. Anyway, the burrito had roasted poblanos (MMMMM), beans, rice, lettuce, cheese and sour cream in it. I had my side of guac and 2 big ass bottles of salsa to drizzle on my burrito. I was READY. I was able to eat about 75% of it, which is an obscene amount of food. It was really good. I'm REALLY happy this place is around, and not a carbon copy of the burrito restaurant clones. It's delicious. I'm pretty sure I had burrito all over my face by the time I finished, but it was worth it. The only thing I would change it that I'm not a huge fan of rice in burritos, so I'd probably get it without the rice next time. I will be back! read more

I was contemplating where to go on my lunch break, walking down Chicago Ave., and I was just about prepared to go to Soupbox when I spotted 'Flaco's Taco's.' The only close to decent Mexican-ish joint I've had in this area was Qdoba Grill. Being the connoisseur of Mexican food that I am, I had to try it. Ofcourse, I had to try a steak taco- my first real test to see if the establishment is worth my time. For $2.50, not bad, as the taco itself was bigger than most south side tacos I'm used to. They use 'chihuahua' cheese, whatever that means, and served with cilantro and a little too many onions. I will definitely tell them to go easy on those next time. I was happy to see they serve tamales as well, so I tried the pork- also $2.50. It was a little dry, but still tasty. The red salsa made my mouth burn a little, and I love me some hot sauce. I also got a side of rice for $2, and they were pretty generous with this, served in a soup cup container with cilantro. I was shocked to see that they close at midnight during the week. Also, Mondays are $3.00 margaritas. I will definitely be back. read more

A great, small taco shop perfect for the walk home after a long day. The main reason I'm a fan is the vegan cupcakes. Yes...it's completely random and totally unexpected but they are AMAZING. The cookies and cream and triple chocolate cupcakes are both vegan and they are out of this world. The tacos, especially shrimp and fish are delicious, and a great value. Makings for good quick takeaway at the park: al pastor tacos and a horchata . Or so I thought... Not even the sunshiny late afternoon and children's laughter could remedy the unfortunate rough and tough bites of fat and tendon that filled my tacos. Not authentic and not tasty either. This review is simply for their burritos. I tried two different burritos - tilapia and steak "con todos." First of all, I don't know why, but the different styles of burritos are not listed on their menu. I only knew about it because I went to the website and clicked on "order online," which is when I saw you can get burritos "con todos," "tradicionales," burrito bowls, "con suiza," and the tilapia one. It's not even posted in their restaurant. Anyway, both burritos are least 2 lbs and approximately $8 each. It's a good value, but it wasn't a good meal. The tilapia was over salted and gray (not fresh), and the beef had little flavor. I also agree with the reviewers who said that the tortillas rip. I feel like if Flaco's Tacos made smaller burritos that don't require 3 hands to hoist up to my mouth, then the tortillas wouldn't rip as easily. I've gone here several times and every single time, they've messed up my order! Whether its carry-out, delivery or eat-in - I kid you not, they messed it up. The first couple times I've been, I thought maybe they were still working out the kinks of being newly opened. But I went yesterday and sure enough they did it again! Let's level set here, the food is ok. Its not great, its not bad! BUT why on earth can't they get my food order right? Is it the cashier not paying attention and not using good listening skills? Is it the kitchen staff not doing their job? Now that there is Taco Burrito King down the street, I will never return to this place unless I am paid to do so. Great food . I love the nachos, tostada are my favorite. Tuesday they have $1 tacos. Chorizo tacos are great. But what I enjoy about flacos tacos is Tannesha friendly Demeanor . I had Flaco's Tacos a few hours ago and I really enjoyed them. I order the Al Pastor, Pollo and Fish Taco. The Al Pastor was really really tasty but I was hoping for some real pineapple chunks in the taco. The flavor was there and the texture was there. The pollo was my least favorite but their in house salsa/sauces made it taste way way better. The fish taco was my favorite taco there. they drizzled the fish taco with their house made dressing. The fish was cooked well and there was a good amount of fish in it. The highlight of my visit was the hot sauce and red/green sauces they had. They were super duper tasty. It made their 3 Star Taco into a 4.5 Star taco. the flavors were robust and pop like a fire cracker in my mouth. Real glad this taco place is by my school. They even had burritos. My next visit i will make sure to order the burrito. The workers there were very polite and very accommodating, they delivered my food to my table and even removed my empty tray and plate. My husband and I ordered the chorizo tacos and what we got was tortillas with a small piece of chorizo, and overloaded with onions and cheese. As a Californian, I am impressed. Is it the best thing ever? No, but it's solid. I usually get the chicken burrito or chicken torta (ahem, torta de pollo). The place has cozy feel to it, might be the space or the hearts on the wall. Its a medium size space. It's been three days pass valentine day, they should take the hearts down for the haters. Decor is great, I do notice a it's getting dusty above the air ducts, I hope they keep that maintained. Washrooms are great, they even have a cabinet right next to the toilet for spares. I ordered the chicken torta which was decent. Everything in it included avocados which u would usually have to pay for in other restaurants. They have daily specials for 8.95 which I barely looked at, but if I come in with more time i would. When you sit, u have a container filled with utensils, salt and pepper and Valencia hot sauce. When u order they give you a number on a stand so they know who to serve their food to, but they serve it without the napkins or the Mexican green or red hot sauce. I'm not lazy, I work on foot all day everyday. Wouldn't it make sense to either bring the sauce and napkins to you, or just fill the containers on the table with them? My daughter and I recently enjoyed the experience that is Flaco's Tacos this past weekend. Having never visited this establishment before, we were a little befuddled as to what to do, but quickly figured things out. The environment was slightly crowded, but not overwhelmingly so. It was clean and pleasant. My daughter had the Cowboy tacos, which she said, and I quote, "was the best thing I've ever eaten in my entire life." I asked if she might be slightly exaggerating a little for dramatic effect, but she vehemently stood her ground that it was the best. I tried a few bites of her tacos, and I will say they were very good. I had the homemade Chicken Pozole Soup, which was very good. It was quite flavorful. The cilantro added such a nice touch to the bowl of deliciousness. The only negative thing I'd have to say about this place is that they use plastic silverware, which is not really very Earth friendly. I'd much rather see them use actual silverware. Otherwise, I would have given them a full 5 stars. My daughter and I will most definitely visit this place. She fell in love with the location as well as their tacos. :) read more

Living in Southern California for most of my life, i'm used to authentic mexican food. This tiny little place was very good. I ordered the chicken nachos, the chicken was good quality pieces, not leftover scraps that sometimes find there way on nachos or burritos. the guacamole is REALLY good and my best friend loved the green sauce they have in bottles on the tables. it's a little expensive but it seemed like everything is in chicago and the portions were worth the price. we went back two nights later and the steak tacos were also delicious! read more

Flaco's has excellent food. It is fresh and authentic tasting. The prices are decent. The staff is quick and friendly. I love their nachos, real cheese not that disgusting queso liquid. The vegetarian tamales are also one of my favorites. Often overlooked are the deserts which look and taste homemade. Worth the trip to pick up a gourmet cupcake alone. I'm also impressed that they use biodegradable plastic utensils. Small detail, but I appreciate it. My only complaint, no fountain drinks. I like big drinks and I cannot lie. ... why do you guys always lie about "being out of the mix" on Monday's when you have $3 margarita's? It's always a hour to half hour before close that you guys come up with this lie. This week I was here is was the earlier I've seen it and before 9pm. I've been a bartender 10 years and I know you just don't want to serve anyone else because you want to make sure you get home in a timely manner. Just do a last call then. It's rude when you walk a ways to get there and then you say this lie. Or when you're sitting there after one margarita and you see everyone going up for their last round and have full drinks, but you're not ready for your's yet. So when you finally go up there now you're allegedly "out of the mix". Give me a break. I saw so many new customers leave on not even that busy of a day. I was in this location once and they were serving till 930 and i was surprised b/c with cleaning and waiting for people to finish drinks I wondering if they would truly be able to close by around 10 pm. I guess they learned their lesson b/c things are different now The whole kitchen is wrapping up their line ready to go home and clearly that's the case with the margs too. If you want to close at 9 then our business hours for 9 and not 10. But stop lying to loyal customers and being selfish smh. The owner doesn't know how much business their losing. Don't even get me started on the attitude and combativeness of the cashiers once you point this out. If you hate your job, quit. Update: The owner wrote in response that a guest cannot take alcohol off the premises. At what point in this review did I ask to leave the restaurant with a margarita? This is how you can tell the business does not care about consumers and doesn't even read these reviews. As I referenced earlier in the interview I've been a bartender and some of the busiest and best rated restaurants in Chicago. I know liquor laws and have never asked to take drinks outside. That is illegal. Not sure what review he is reading. To reiterate: stop lying to guests that you're out of margaritas when you are not because rude workers want to go home early. Train your workers on how to be courteous and call a last call if you want to stop serving (albeit unfair to guests who travel to your location), but do not lie. Something burnt so bad it almost makes you crack your molar?? This place was awful. I can't even put into words how awful the dining experience was here. The staff was nice enough and the place was clean but the food was one of the worst experiences I've had. I ordered a burrito bowl type dish and I had trouble continuing after the third bite. There's a reason Chipotle is so big in Chicago and that's because Mexican food in this city is non-existent. We were walking the streets of Chicago looking for a quick bite before heading out and came across this place. Always down to check out a new place but unfortunately I guess we should've kept walking. The service was nice, the employees were pretty patient since it was our first time and they gave us some suggestions. The place is pretty casual, nice window seating. As for the food, we got the bowls and some small tacos. They said three would be filling, but it sort of was since they weren't really satisfying. Surprisingly the bowls were better than the tacos. I ordered the fish, chicken, and steak tacos. The chicken was alright, the steak was the best, the fish was a bit dry and seemed as if it was just thrown together quickly. Got 2 of the 6 pack tacos, chicken, stake, barba, and the cowboy. All the meat was dry as if it was cooked a day earlier and left in the fridge without a lid. Very little flavor and the taco shells where also just as dry. Ended up putting a hole cup of the green salsa on one just to add moisture. At $5 bucks a taco this is a joke for the quality of food and why they add an extra $1 dollar charge for all meat products makes no sense to me so it's actually $6 for 1 meat taco and $5 for veggies or beans. If the meats had some liquid in them and the shells where cooked in a touch of oil it would be a lot better, nix the extra charge for meat and I'd give you 3 stars. read more

Overall Good tacos but a little pricey. My tacos (lime steak) were spot on, and my daughter's burrito was massive and delicious. My other daughter had the beef quesadilla which tasted like it had some chorizo in it, but I can't guarantee that. It was tasty! The sauces, which I'm assuming were homemade, were great. I understand businesses are up in the air during this quarantine and we decided to go against the reviews for this place. Unfortunately, it was disappointing in every way except for the margaritas. The rice was undercooked and clearly reheated because it was hard and not edible, the tacos were cold and the meat was hard. Essentially the whole meal was not edible so ended up being thrown out. A burrito suizo was filled with rice and had no cheese or sauce. This was about $120 worth of food and almost all of it was in the trash. Pretty disappointing for the amount spent.
