So after my Margarita situation at Flaco's Tacos in the South Loop, I didn't think I'd ever end up at another Flacos. Well, here I was after a Cubs game AND quite the heavy drinking experience at Streeters (right next door)...and shock me, shock me, shock me, I loved it! The staff was friendlier, the food came out quicker and was tastier, I was drunker, and the overall experience was just a lot better. I had the Arrachera (grilled skirt steak tacos) and some chips/salsa/and guacamole. Yeah, a drunk girls heaven. Well done, Flacos, well done. I'd also like to mention that the owner or manager from the South Loop location contacted me to apologize for the bad margaritas, so I probably woulda gave them another shot based on that anyways. read more

A welcome addition to the Streeterville lunch scene. I had the Flaco's Bowl, it was pretty good. I was expecting a burrito bowl type of thing so I was a little surprised when a salad came out. It was still really good so no complaints. Can't wait to come back and try some tacos. read more

Not bad if you're craving some quickie tacos and rice and beans - bad if you're craving authentic Mexican food. Overall a solid mediocre place. We had the special for the day - chicken enchiladas with rice and beans and a sangrita. We also had a "choose three" combo and had two steak mini burritos and a steak taco with rice and beans and a frozen traditional margarita. We also ordered a side of chips and guac. The rice and beans were fine, exactly what I expected. The chicken enchiladas were good albeit being SMOTHERED in sour cream. Like, literally a LADLE FULL of sour cream all over the top of my plate. The rice and beans for the next meal were the same. For some reason, although all two of the mini burritos were ordered with steak - one of them oddly was just cheese and rice. The steak taco was good but if you don't want cilantro and onions you need to be sure to ask. They're LOADED with them. The guacamole tasted fresh made and was good. The chips were good...when they were fully cooked. They were incredibly greasy (which oddly somehow didn't make me dislike them, they still had good taste) and some spots simply weren't cooked through because of how they fried them. We also had to go up and ask for them for the guac and chips because they forgot about them, which seemed to be a theme. Lots of other people kept going up and asking for things after they had been served. The frozen traditional margarita was incredibly salty - and I'm not just talking about the rim. I'm not sure if they sprinkled salt on top of if the salted rim was somehow melting into the drink, but some spots were unbearably salty. The sangrita was the same pre-made frozen margarita, except with sangria poured over the top. It tasted like a margarita with straight wine poured over it - not good. Overall, it's an easy place to grab a couple of decent tacos and have some rice and beans but don't expect amazing quality of service or food. read more

Um this place is actually kind of bomb, how come no one ever talks about it? It has a pretty convenient location (next to the Chicago Red line) although the space is kinda small (not good for big groups) but its one of the few cheap places to eat late at night (till 11pm) in that area of town. The tacos are hugeeee, service is lightning fast, and its such a great deal for pretty decent tasting tacos. I especially like the al pastor and steak tacos, a little dry but nothing a little salsa can't fix! Nothing can beat the tacos I get in California but for Chicago, Flaco's is the place to go for tacos! read more

I have had great experiences here in the past but after reviving my Postmates order and nearly being finished with my Flaco bowl I bit down on this hard piece of gravel? bone? Something burnt so bad it almost makes you crack your molar?? No explanation for what I found just glad it happened at the end of my meal and didn't ruin my delicious bowl before I even got the chance to start it. ... why do you guys always lie about "being out of the mix" on Monday's when you have $3 margarita's? It's always a hour to half hour before close that you guys come up with this lie. This week I was here is was the earlier I've seen it and before 9pm. I've been a bartender 10 years and I know you just don't want to serve anyone else because you want to make sure you get home in a timely manner. Just do a last call then. It's rude when you walk a ways to get there and then you say this lie. Or when you're sitting there after one margarita and you see everyone going up for their last round and have full drinks, but you're not ready for your's yet. So when you finally go up there now you're allegedly "out of the mix". Give me a break. I saw so many new customers leave on not even that busy of a day. I was in this location once and they were serving till 930 and i was surprised b/c with cleaning and waiting for people to finish drinks I wondering if they would truly be able to close by around 10 pm. I guess they learned their lesson b/c things are different now The whole kitchen is wrapping up their line ready to go home and clearly that's the case with the margs too. If you want to close at 9 then our business hours for 9 and not 10. But stop lying to loyal customers and being selfish smh. The owner doesn't know how much business their losing. Don't even get me started on the attitude and combativeness of the cashiers once you point this out. If you hate your job, quit. Update: The owner wrote in response that a guest cannot take alcohol off the premises. At what point in this review did I ask to leave the restaurant with a margarita? This is how you can tell the business does not care about consumers and doesn't even read these reviews. As I referenced earlier in the interview I've been a bartender and some of the busiest and best rated restaurants in Chicago. I know liquor laws and have never asked to take drinks outside. That is illegal. Not sure what review he is reading. To reiterate: stop lying to guests that you're out of margaritas when you are not because rude workers want to go home early. Train your workers on how to be courteous and call a last call if you want to stop serving (albeit unfair to guests who travel to your location), but do not lie. After walking by hundreds of times, I finally checked out Flaco's Tacos! It is surprisingly cute inside. There is a small, yet comfortable seating area. The food is menu has Mexican classics, tacos, tamales, quesadillas, and fun additions, like Mexican sandwiches. Our food was ready quickly. You can order single tacos, and they are big. I can't imagine ordering more than 2. We shared the guacamole, which was a huge portion. I noticed a board of specials that looked quite good. I remember $3 margaritas and $2 beers were listed. It is a short walk from the Chicago stop on the Red line. Definitely worth checking out. They also deliver!! read more

When I was on vacation in Chicago I decided to make taco Tuesday a thing. I mean it should always be a thing, but I decided that I wanted to eat some tacos, have some drinks and get pretty drunk. Flaco's tacos was my first stop on this adventure. Well I didn't order a taco, haha, my friend totally ragged on me after making such a big deal about it. I ended up having a torta because I've never heard of it and trying new things is fun! =] Well I really enjoyed my torta, for those of you who don't know, like me before going to Flaco's, it is pretty much a Mexican hamburger of magic. I then proceeded to have two glasses of sangria and then continue on my way. Pros about Flaco's good, cheap food made fast. I also really liked the décor. Cons very very crowded. My friend and I had to grab seats and each rotate ordering in order to keep them and the place is a tad bit small. A quick, cheap place to grab dinner. On my first visit, I ordered the fish tacos, but I had to add some necessary hot sauce to give the tacos a little more flavor. Another time, I ordered the flaco bowl to-go and was seriously disappointed. They didn't prepare it according to their own description and I had to go back so they could remake it. It wasn't flavorful at all... think lettuce with salsa. I'll stick to the traditional tacos next time. I wouldn't really call this authentic mexican food, but it'll hit the spot. read more

Got 2 of the 6 pack tacos, chicken, stake, barba, and the cowboy. All the meat was dry as if it was cooked a day earlier and left in the fridge without a lid. Very little flavor and the taco shells where also just as dry. Ended up putting a hole cup of the green salsa on one just to add moisture. At $5 bucks a taco this is a joke for the quality of food and why they add an extra $1 dollar charge for all meat products makes no sense to me so it's actually $6 for 1 meat taco and $5 for veggies or beans. If the meats had some liquid in them and the shells where cooked in a touch of oil it would be a lot better, nix the extra charge for meat and I'd give you 3 stars. read more

YES AND YES AND YES AND YES! I wish I lived in Chicago for the sole reason of being able to eat at this fine establishment every day. I have waited over a YEAR for my Flaco's Tacos! I go, it is still clean, friendly, and awesome. In fact, we ate Flaco's twice in a 24 hour period. We had nearly every taco they offer as well as their guacamole. I actually missed Flaco's so much for their tres leches that I couldn't wait, but then I got so full twice I didn't get to eat it. THIS MEANS I MUST RETURN TO CHICAGO SOON. Overall Good tacos but a little pricey. My tacos (lime steak) were spot on, and my daughter's burrito was massive and delicious. My other daughter had the beef quesadilla which tasted like it had some chorizo in it, but I can't guarantee that. It was tasty! The sauces, which I'm assuming were homemade, were great. My son had the taco salad and it was satisfactory, but not earth shattering. It was just kinda there. Between this and the price is where I dropped it a star. I understand businesses are up in the air during this quarantine and we decided to go against the reviews for this place. Unfortunately, it was disappointing in every way except for the margaritas. The rice was undercooked and clearly reheated because it was hard and not edible, the tacos were cold and the meat was hard. Essentially the whole meal was not edible so ended up being thrown out. A burrito suizo was filled with rice and had no cheese or sauce. This was about $120 worth of food and almost all of it was in the trash. Pretty disappointing for the amount spent. I love the chips and guacamole here! The chips are always perfectly crisp and salty. Finally, a more local restaurant in the River North area to break up the 10,000 chain restaurants. Ordered for carry-out and was pleased with service/speediness. I had the chicken tacos and beef tacos. The chicken was dry and needed more flavor. The beef is probably the way to go since it's juicer and more flavorful. I needed to put a good amount of salsa just to spice the tacos up a little bit. Fish Taco ($2.45) hit the spot; a good sized fillet that was just lightly seasoned. Chicken Tamale ($2.45) was average; the salsas helped the dry texture. I live a few blocks away and have wanted to pop in for a while. The other day I finally did. The place is a bit small inside, so I can see it getting really crowded, but they do have outdoor seating. I liked the variety they have for the tacos,burritos, etc. as well as the weekly specials. Great mix and a lot of options, especially what looked like some pretty good drink deals! I ordered the al pastor quesadilla and my boyfriend got tacos. My quesadilla hit the spot, but was pretty greasy. The small size is small, but was just right for a small meal. If I was hungrier I would have needed the large. Guacamole was tasty! His tacos were good, but he agreed they were a little greasy as well. It's good to know this place is nearby but it was a little greasy for me. I'd have to be in that kind of mood. I do want to come back for chips, guac, and drinks though! read more

Not the tacos I was expecting after a friend recommended this place. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I'll start with the good....the chicken tamale was very good and the flavor of the picadillo was good. The meat in the steak taco was extremely dry and chewy. The chips were beyond greasy, I felt like I was eating crispy oil. And the beans were so salty I couldn't eat them. My friend and I tried Flacos Tacos after work one sweltering Friday afternoon. I recommend the Chicken Pozole Verde - it's a hominy-based mexican soup that is as spicy as it is healthy - yum! I don't know how I missed this place so many times. I guess I didn't "miss" it... all of the signs for every other restaurant in that little strip of Chicago Ave. just drowned out Flaco's Tacos. I came in because I thought why not? The food: I order a steak torta minus beans and avocado. I absolutely loved it. Put meat on bread and you've already got me, but the ingredients topping my sandwich were all fresh which added to my enjoyment. There was an awesome worker there (a busboy? I'm not quite sure) who made sure I had everything I needed and offered to clean up my place. I never expect that at a walk up to order place. I've been meaning to go back for a while, but whenever I'm in the area I'm never looking for a fast meal. Usually I'll go to a sit-down restaurant. I will definitely be back though. read more

I recently went to Chicago for a one-day business trip and I was super excited to try Xoco. I'm from NYC and we have great tacos here so I wanted to see how Chicago Mexican compared. Unfortunately, Xoco was closed so I doubled back to my hotel for a taco recommendation and got sent to Flacos. One word: meh. I got the chicken verde soup, a chicken taco and a fish taco. A great place for a quick and casual lunch or dinner. I've been to the Printer's Row location before and didn't even know this one existed until we were doing some shopping on Michigan Ave. on Saturday. It's close to the stores but tucked away enough that it isn't crazy crowded with tourists and shoppers. Also, I get REALLY bored with Chipotle and this is a good alternative with many more menu options. The tortas are good and so are the quesadillas-- you can also order any entree with a variety of protein options including fish or veggies. The burritos are huge and the chips and guac were also a way generous portion (too much for the two of us to finish along with our entrees). I walked by one Monday and saw the sandwich board outside their door that mentioned 4 dollar Margaritas, so I go inside and It was recommended to me to also try their chicken flautas. I was afraid that I might not like them since I never had them before, but the way it was described to me sounded like something that I was willing to try. It turned out that it was the best recommendation I ever had for food. The food is very clean, very fresh tasting and not oily or greasy. It's my only guilty pleasure to do once a week. It's one of those things that if you have to break your diet, it is so well worth it because the food is so delicious and so satisfying. There frozen margaritas on Mondays are very potent, and such a great deal, after two you will definitely feel relaxed. I usually go In the afternoon, on Ronnie's shift (11-5 p.m) where the customer services is stellar!!! He's great and very accommodating the whole staff is wonderful. If you want fantastic service, fantastic food that is very fresh, definitely come to this Flaco's Tacos Water-tower location. The best chicken flautas i've ever had in life! I was pleasantly surprised by the size of the tacos. I had only two tacos and they filled me up. I had an al pastor taco which I really enjoyed. A lot of meat, a lot of tortilla, worth the price of $2.45. I was a bit disappointed by the fish taco. It was also big with two fat pieces of meat, but I didn't think it tasted good. The creamy chipotle sauce was bland in my opinion. It was $2.99. All in all, the experience was better than I expected. These tacos don't meet the standard of LA tacos, but I can't complain.
