I recently rediscovered Flaco's Tacos, and wondering why I ever stopped going there on a regular basis. I can't speak to authenticity, but can say if i'm debating Flaco's Taco's or Chipotle- Flaco's Tacos burritos win hands down every time. My default order is the Al Pastor burrito. The meat is so tender and has a great balance of heat and sweetness. My husband loves the carne asada fries which come with both a generous portion of carne asada and guacamole. Speaking of guac- their chips and gauc make me lose my mind. I think its the fresh chips with just the right amount of salt (although beware- the guac could use a little more heat. I can't speak to the in store experience as I always call ahead for take out, which is quick and easy. Love that they already include utensils and napkins. read more

I probably come here 2 or 3 times a month for the al pasture tacos, which I think are very good. Unless you like super greasy chips I wouldn't recommend ordering them. There are other things that are better on the menu to spend your money on. I was disappointed they didn't do the turkey and sweet potato taco this holiday season, like they did the year before. read more

The Nachos were a standout dish for me. The Tortia is fried in house. I ordered with soup and used the soup to dip my nachos with.

Taco Tuesday!!! If you aren't excited now, move on to the next review. Taco Tuesday is generally a busy affair here as they run an awesome deal which involves $1 taco special on this, the most glorious day of the week. I anticipated a packed place at 2:15 in the afternoon (seriously) and was able to get a table to enjoy three delicious little tacos. I usually enjoy salsa verde with them, but unfortunately the top of the bottle was loose and when I went to apply some green love to the taco, disaster struck! The whole bottle of salsa verde dumps out all over my corn tortilla goodness and created salsa verde soup. Luckily the friendly and helpful ladies at Flaco's quickly hooked me up with new tacos and I blissfully devoured them. See? Some stories have happy endings. read more

SO yummy!! I am a huge fan of the tacos - especially the al pastor. SO simple and delicious. I always ask for a flour tortilla - so if thats your preference - be sure to ask. And the frozen margaritas from the machine - are actually fantastic. On Mondays they are only $3. BARGAIN!! I don't know where they buy their desserts - but wow - are they good. esp the red velvet cupcakes. This is the kind of place I get cravings for. YUM read more

I have to say first off, this is only a review of their burritos, specifically the chicken. I agree with some of the other reviewers, the chicken was so dry and flavorless, I had to drench it in the sauce, and that too had no flavor. There was barely any cheese to help out, and unfortunately i didn't come to this realization until after i had finished half of it, or I would have returned it. Chipotle is, and always will be better, mostly because it has more flavor, with the beans and different salsas. This might have been bigger, which is a plus, but it really is just more bad food. So what's the point? I'll give the other items a try, since I have heard good things about this place, but i'll never go there for a burrito again. read more

Good Mexican style food. We stopped by twice and got the same thing, so it must be good! Tacos are delicious. Try getting the taco with rice and beans. The rice was perfectly done and the taco meat was fresh and perfectly cooked. We also had the torta with chicken and it was also delicious! The chicken seemed to be grilled with little bites of extra toasty char that made it f*ckin' delicious. The only thing I wasn't feeling was the horchata, it was too watery and it had a weird after taste. Overall it was a great experience and I would recommend it. Seriously overpriced. Two fish tacos and a margarita were almost $15, but I can get four tacos and two drinks at other places for the same price that taste way better. A cupcake and a sangria (which, for the Thursday special, was $3) was almost $10. The cupcake had the density of cornbread, which I guess isn't bad if you're into that kind of thing. The fish tacos were pretty bland. The sangria was fine I guess. It wasn't BAD necessarily, I just think Flaco's could produce better food and drinks for that price point. read more

I recently started coming here with a group of friends WEEKLY for their specials such as Margarita Monday. The prices food wise are a bit much, but I don't complain for that.....But what I will complain about is the customer service provided by a "manager" today. Dalia, to be exact. She doesn't know the menu and the different options for non pork eaters, she obviously has a hearing problem because she got my coworkers order wrong AND she sucks at customer service in terms of fixing the problem. I am a manager myself. If I make a mistake on my end, I will fix it on my end. Not the customers. So WHY am I paying extra for someone else's mistake because the order has to be remade? I come from a business that has over 20 employees and we all recently started coming here (scattered) and just like that we can all take our business somewhere else. I personally might give y'all another shot, but the rest of my staff might not because the whole group chat already knows about it . read more

I was in the mood for some quick and easy Mexican food so I decided to give Flaco a shot. We ordered a burrito and three tacos: Ground beef, chicken, and al pastor. Overall I felt the food could have been fresher. I did enjoy it but only after dousing the food in sauce (since it was a bit under seasoned and dry). The chicken was especially dry and it was lacking that zesty oomph that is usually associated with Mexican cuisine. Overall it was not bad and obviously it was lightyears better than the abominable Chipotle but I was slightly disappointed. Maybe it was just an off day for Flaco. read more

Not the cheapest Mexican place in town, but any joint that serves up well-seasoned al pastor tacos on corn tortillas with onion, lime and cilantro is cool with me. I just visited Flaco for lunch this afternoon and had the steak torta after reading how amazing they were in these review. I have to tell you these reviews are wrong. The bread was soggy, the steak was waterlogged and bland. Stingy with the avocado slices. All in all definitely not a $6 sandwich. And definitely not an authentic torta. I've been coming here for bites and margaritas for two years now and I've never been disappointed. The two who always work the register are always kind. The food is always tasty. :) and the margs have to be some of the best in Chicago. Sometimes I've gotten off work and it's been a miserable day and the margs hit the spot! I usually get the taco dinner and love it. But today it came out with my rice and beans inside of a hard shell bowl smaller than the size of tiny fist. Don't cheat me out of my portions when your portions used to be so much better than this. The rice and beans sat inside a small shell. The rice had like two silverware spoonfuls of rice and like 1/3 portion less of beans they normally serve(with no cheese on top) I was pissed. So I returned the food and went somewhere else. If they want to cheat me, I just will not come back unless they stop taking away my portions and think a taco shell can replace. The hard shell does NOT replace the usual portion. Pros: It looked nice, I care about the getting my usual money's worth than some hardshell tortilla bowl I'm going to throw in the garbage anyway. The staff was very gracious and nice. read more

Where to begin? I'm from Wisconsin and here for a long weekend. Just popped into the place when we saw that there was a $4.50 margarita with sangria special. Glad we did! The sangritas were delicious, as were the chicken tacos and the black bean/squash tacos. The refried beans were a great texture and tasty, and the rice was well-seasoned. I would like to give Flacos tacos five stars for the great margaritas and fast service but... The service is not always the friendliest. Sometimes it's great and sometimes it's not. The only other thing I would say is everything is a little blah until you add a bit of salt. It's not that bad since it is an easy thing to add but I just wonder if they taste even the guarc before they send it out. Always taste the product you want people to buy from you. Very happy though about the new location on Clark street though and excited to try it. I am guessing they use the same recipes and looks like they have a full size bar. read more

Most likely the worst Burrito ever served , after the longest wait. Then watched my order sit while they flirted with the girls and guys. Finally, after having to ask someone to hand me my sitting order, it was full of bib lettuce veins, and ribs. Not actual lettuce, but the hard to chew ribs of the lettuce plant. If you're looking for good Mexican food in downtown Chicago, this review is for you: Right now you're hungry for Mexican food and there aren't many choices downtown, so you think "Flaco's Taco's" sounds good. I encourage you to think again. It's just barely good enough, and that's the best thing I can say. It's expensive and feels like a rip off. On my first visit I ordered the taco of the day thinking, hey, it's taco Tuesday, can't be bad for the old wallet. Instead, I got two minuscule tacos masquerading as real tacos. I paid $4.95 per taco. That's nearly twice the amount you'd pay at a humble, authentic taqueria, and you get far, far less. When I walked away from the counter with bag in hand, it felt like they stuffed it with napkins, not food. When I want Mexican food, substance is important. Each taco came as follows: -- In two factory-made tortillas. For the price, you'd expect hand made -- Inside, was braised chicken meat in a mole-ish sauce under a layer of sour cream and a few red onion strips. The meat was so overcooked it was almost soupy and lacked texture -- Two watery salsas on the side, one green and red -- There was no abundance, no love. I could have rolled it up like a taquito as there was so much more tortilla than filling. What I got was an appetizer, not a meal. For what they gave me, I wholly admit they were tasty, and that's why I'm awarding two stars. Otherwise, I was taken, and that's why I'm penalizing them for three stars. Unlike the humble, authentic mom and pop Mexican establishment, this place is clearly about profit and probably has a board of directors who are eager to see this place skyrocket as a chain or franchise business. It's a complete contradiction to good Mexican eateries, but if you don't care, go spend. They're laughing on the way to the bank. Flacos delivered on time and there was no mess. The Steak Burrito and the Tacos Al Pastor were juicy, flavorful, hot, and filling. The Burrito was large, huge, MASSIVE I had to save half for dinner!!
