The service is top notch here.. Why go to other chain places and get a gruffy ugly attitude when you can get wonderful service with a smile and good food to boot.. Everytime I come here I am compelled to ask to speak with the Manager to compliment my server. The first time I made the compliment I found out my server was the manager himself.. Stopped in for breakfast on our way out of town. Prices were decent. Menu was basic diner breakfast. Great, that is what we are here for. I didn't need anything fancy just an omelet. I ordered the Denver omelette. It wasn't a folded omelette stuffed with veggies as much as veggies in a pile with egg and cheese on top. At any rate it was good. Grilled veggies, fluffy egg, not a lot of cheese but there was cheese. I gave my pancakes to my huibby so I can't comment on their taste but they looked fluffy. Overall it was a quick, decently priced, good basic breakfast. No frills. The service was good. I would stop again for breakfast or perhaps to try lunch. read more

We visited Flapjacks once previously at the old location and it was decent enough to give it another try. Our second visit was abysmal and will definitely be our last. In all fairness, we came in for breakfast on Presidents Day. It seemed they had their normal Monday morning crew working... and it was not enough staff to handle the crowd. Our server appeared to be covering at least 15-20 tables. I don't care how good you are, that's too much for one person. It took around 30 minutes for her to show up to take our order, and we later had to go find someone and ask for our check. I could forgive them for the service if that was the only problem, but the food... I ordered the breakfast burrito. A bit of salsa might have made it more palatable, but as it was, it was bland, greasy, and completely unappealing. My breakfast partner went with the buckwheat flapjacks. Imagine that someone mixed sand and old cigarette ashes together and you'll have a decent idea of the texture and taste of those flapjacks. The food was served lukewarm (granted, this was probably directly related to the lack of staff), but I can't imagine that being served hot would have improved the flavor of either. Maybe on a normal day, their food would be better. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and say it might be. But I won't be going back to find out. read more

The food here is horrible. We ordered the eggs Benedict, me with hashbrowns and him with country fried potatoes. The sauce was disgusting and lacking. The eggs were undercooked in the whites. The potatoes were lacking in any flavor and seasoning. His country potatoes were burned on one side and undercooked on the other. If it wasn't for the fact that I'm diabetic and had to eat, we wouldn't have eaten our food. While the server was nice, she never checked on us and we waited a long time after we were finished before she came close enough for us to ask for our check. read more

I would have normally passed up on a place that had 3.5 stars but I'm glad we decided to go here. The only reason the ratings are so low is because people are self proclaimed food critics now and think if everything isn't fine dining it doesn't deserve 5 stars. This restaurant is classic American diner food. Great bacon and eggs with tasty pancakes. Service was on point. Was very pleased with our visit. 5 star service. Food hit or miss. 2nd review. Same consensus. Brunch with friends. Buckwheat pancakes and waffle-way too sweet for me. Ok for friend. So hard to find buckwheat cakes in town. We had to try. Poached eggs perfect. Over medium we're way too hard. Was taken care of easily by our server. Sausages ok but rather small. Biscuits and gravy-meh. Bus quit ok but gravy was so weak. Needs more creaminess and flavor. Place was pretty packed so I guess it is doing ok, We've been coming since it was Walts-loved the goulash and the comradarie with the owners.. Came also when it was waffle something and trying hard to be like Cracker Barrel. Loved the fried apples and potatoes. Now it is just a pedestrian place. Nothing sets it apart. Mediocre. With prices that are a bit too high for the quality of product. I know restaurants have to watch costs but a diner cannot survive without something that sets it apart. Above all, it cannot skimp on gravy, hollandaise ( if they serve it), real butter, and kitchen skill with eggs and potatoes. In this incarnation it is hit or miss. It ain't Walt's! read more

I love their all-American ambiance, their reasonable price and breakfast menu. They don't put salt on the food that they serve, I was told by the waitress. And that's good because salty foods are not good for our health especially for the more senior customers. The downside, I don't like their coffee, I can tell it's the cheaper kind. Met up with family in Sacramento and was deciding between this place and Mel's since they both had good reviews. Glad my sister chose this place. I later found out she chose this place because of the name. Lol the service was fast and friendly. Food was amazing!! Tasty and big portions. Country fried potatoes just the way I like them. Waiter asked if I wanted the onions and bell peppers which of course I said yes! Everything we ordered was delicious! My friends and I went here today. It was the first time for most of us. All of the staff were extremely nice, friendly, and helpful. Seating and service were good, no problems there. The food was good, your average diner food, but decent. I love the unique milkshake flavors they have, I loved the Irish Cream one I had! Their menu has some dishes on it that usually aren't found at diners, so that's nice. Can't wait to try the other unique flavors of milkshakes. And of course the 60s decor is fabulous. I'm glad this place made a comeback and I can't wait to return. read more

My wife and I came here today about 9am. It looked real busy, but we were seated within 5 minutes. Awesome ! My wife ordered the " Meat Lovers Omelet " and I had the " Triple Jack Breakfast " The food could have been a little hotter but overall it was really good. The pancakes were the only thing really hot. Steam from the cakes.. :) We will definitely be going back again. Lots of things I want to try. Prices very reasonable. Lots of good food. I had to have an extra empty plate so I could have room to eat all they gave me. Service was great. Our server "Rhonda" was exceptional. On top of all things all the time. Always checking on us making sure we were happy. They even have a person walking around just filling drinks and picking up dirty dishes. No matter where you live in the Sacramento region.... I expected to need A-1 for the pork chops. I didn't. They were cooked perfectly NOT dried out. Every employee I encountered were pleasant. I will be back. Thanks! The last time I was there I was ignored. The waitress was sitting with customers chatting when I arrived buy that is no big deal as it was not crowded. This is the same waitress who runs around frantic like she is overwhelmed even when the place is empty. I was seated along the wall. A couple had been waiting for a long time till the lady got up and searched for a waitress. At this point she no longer chatting while sitting at a table. She just disappeared. After the lady fetched her the frantic running started. We see you! When I wanted to ask for napkins not one person acknowledge me. I raised my hand. Waved my hand. Right before I got up to get them myself the hostesses spotted, stopped chatting and ran over to me. I told her I do not like to be ignored. The waitress ran over and apologized as I was leaving. She told me my meal was competed. You bet it was. If I do not exist neither does my money. read more

We love this place. Found it by accident. It is within walking distance of where we get our car serviced so decided to have something to eat while we waited for our car. The pancakes and eggs I ordered was so good that we keep coming back for more. Now it is our go to place for breakfast or lunch. People are friendly, they remember and chat with regular customers. The place is clean and food choices on the menu are normal, with a bit of low cal and vegan in there too. Meals are made to order and served without delay. read more

Flapjacks on El Camino was one of our favorite "in the mood for a big eggs and pancakes breakfast" places. So when they had a fire that closed them at that location, we were kind of bummed. The alternatives we'd tried just didn't cut it. So when they opened on Arden JEO Howe in the old Tex Wasabi's site, we thought we ought to try it out. Same tasty, filling breakfast. Exactly what you expect from a pancake house. And totally willing to accommodate weird substitution requests. Friendly staff (shoutout to Jackie). And this new location is far better than the El Camino place. More open format. Good use of space and the big screens for Saturday college football (if you want to watch from almost anywhere in the place but not be overpowered by sound) are part of why we'll go back. read more

Love this place! Even if they are short staffed and having a breakfast rush!! Like every restaurant just depends on your server. They could use some help in the front of house and letting customers know what is the up and up for that moment in the restaurant. -hint: not everyone comes from the background of the restaurant world and have little patience for waiting. This is my first time trying Flapjacks and it will not be the last! From the hostess to the server, I was greeted with a smile. Aside from the food being amazing, I was struck by how friendly the staff was. There was an older gentleman (who I'm sure is a regular) by the name of Joe that sat at the table next to mine. Now, I know his name because no less than six different staff people stopped to greet him and asked how he was. Amazing! I normally feel uncomfortable going out to eat by myself but not this morning! Felt like a family and I loved how the staff interacted with one another. If you are looking for good food in a lovely family environment, this is the place for you. Flapjacks has tasty food that looks and tastes home made. The staff is always very friendly and polite and service is usually very prompt, even when they are busy. It is the only place in Sacramento that has pancakes that I actually like, and I am not a pancake person at all. There are quite a few different options on the breakfast menu, so it will satisfy most people. We love it. read more

we got sat pretty quickly, but then it took around 15 minutes to even get our drink order taken. then the waitress proceeds to disappear for another 10 minutes and forgets one of the drinks at our table and doesnt bring it until our food has come out. once we ordered our food, i had ordered the corned beef and hash, which looked like it was from the can and was gritty and tasted like cat food. i also ordered the banana caramel pancakes and the bananas we hard as rocks. i dont understand how that can even happen. our waitress was nice but other than that none of us enjoyed our food and would probably never come back here. read more

The venue is large and open, bustling with families, couples, and people of all ages. Rather friendly atmosphere. Menu had a good selection of items and the food was actually pretty good. I got the Chicken Fried Steak with Eggs (based on other yelpers' recommendation) and a side of hash browns and toast. The hubs got a BBQ burger since it was closer to lunch. I loved the hash browns! It was crispy on the outside and gooey on the inside, resembling mashed potatoes. Chicken fried steak was crispy without being too greasy and had a good helping of gravy. Eggs were perfect. The BBQ burger was surprisingly good even though it didn't come out looking all that appealing. Sadly, I'm giving a 3-star rating because the service was soooo slow to almost non-existent, which was a surprise to me because other reviewers reported otherwise. I understand it was peak hour, but we never got our coffee and didn't get any water refills even after reminding our server whenever we had the chance. Also, our food took almost 30 minutes to arrive while others who came after us had already gotten theirs. When we were ready for our check, the server forgot to take off the coffee so she went back to fix it, and took another 15 minutes to come back with our receipt because she somehow lost our ticket right after. She was a very friendly and sweet elderly lady, however, we had errands to run so we were getting impatient. Overall, the food was very satisfying, so I will give this place another go. Hopefully the service will be much better or I'll only go during less busy hours. I will update my review then. read more
