I love the concept and they always have fresh ingredients and sauces. Service is a bit rushed. $6.99 for children under 10, and $14 for adult lunch special M-F 11-2 You have to pay for egg, cheese, roti 75cengs extra. That used to be included years ago. They give lotssss of chicken/protein. They have a poster explaining how you put your name on a stick and all these directions, but that existed years ago. They just take your order now. It can be so hard to figure out what is and isn't vegan. All the real vegans know that issues can be lurking around every corner. Why aren't those chips and salsa labeled vegan? You have to ask these questions. Thankfully, at flat top grill, you can fully customize your meal AND all the sauces are clearly marked if they are vegan or not. My meal bowl allowed me to try seitan (sp?) for the first time while my lovely girlfriend got some tofu with delicious roasted sesame garlic sauce. Our waitress was so nice as well and attentive. Would highly recommend if in the Chicago downtown area. (Note they do not sell alcohol, at all). Oh and the plant based chicken is offered on a day by day basis. read more

We arrived within the first hour of them opening and it was pretty empty since they had just opened. The server was friendly and quick to seat us and the place was clean with upbeat music playing the background. Since we were the only ones in the restaurant, it didn't take us long to order so we did the beef skewer appetizers and two of the signature fried rice. The beef skewers themselves were amazing. Great flavor and very tender however, I feel like they made it with brown rice and I'm not a fan of brown rice especially when being used in my Asian dishes. The house signature fried rice my son loved it, but I'm not crazy about it. The flavor is great, but it's not traditional at all. It's full of corn and it has a very nutty smell and taste. Apparently the sauce they cook it in as a peanut sauce. The meat is very tender. It's very hot and fresh since it was cooked to order and the flavors are there, but there is a uniqueness to this fried rice. I mean it is an Asian fusion restaurant. The bread they give you. I'm not sure what kind of bread it is, but it reminds me of like a light pita or maybe a light roti bread. Although it wasn't what I expected, we would definitely come back for more. However, come prepared for their unique flare or something different than what you would traditionally expect from Asian cuisine. Again, it's a fusion restaurant so take that into consideration. They do have a raw buffet where you can get as much as you want as many times as you want and they'll cook the food fresh on a flat top hibachi grill. I feel like we would've enjoyed that better because we could've flavored the food to our liking, and everyone who came in after us didn't order off the menu they ordered off of the raw buffet. These Mongolian inspired flat top dishes are always a hit or miss. You know why? Coz it's all depends on what sauces you choose and which sauces to mix up. Everything else is the same anywhere. A choice of protein. A choice of carb ( noodle, rice or quinoa) Bunch of veggies and toppings to choose from. And a plethora of sauces you have idea what taste good and what to mix together. Of course me having no idea how and what to mix ended up asking our waiter for help and ended up with a questionable outcome lol. Haven't enjoyed my dish. My husband got the lobster fried rice, this was decent. The crab Rangoon was a disaster. Omg. Wasted dollars They don't have liquor licenses but they have an elaborate drinks menu. Why? My coworkers hadn't been here in a while so they wanted to check it out. This was my first time. Before we got there I looked at the menu and planned on having their Signature Fried Rice. When we arrived they told us we can only order Create Your Own. How disappointing. I had no idea what to add. You pick your protein with the server then put your own veggies and rice in a bowl. We ordered the signature fried rice, drunken noodles and 2 create your own bowls each with our choice of 2 proteins - we chose steak, sausage and pork. There was a large variety of fresh veggies to choose from so it was fun building my own bowl! The dishes weren't that great however and the BYO bowls were decent at most; maybe I put too much sauce and didn't choose the right sauces since it didn't suit my taste. Didn't have high expectations and they did not exceed my expectations. To start, I guess they were short staffed and were not serving alcohol. Disappointing but still gave the place a shot. We ordered a round of trio's with gyoza, edamame, shrimp skewers, and steak quesadilla. Everything was ok, the standout was the steak quesadilla and everything else was pretty bland. The way it works, you pick your protein and head to the bar to add your ingredients to a small bowl for them to cook on the flat top. After it's prepared they bring the meal to your table. The place had gnats flying around that kind of through experience off. I chose steak as my protein and again, very bland. They have several sauces you can choose from and it does make the meal. ADD SAUCE before and after the meal is prepared. Overall, I most likely would not be back. read more

Flat Top Grill reminds me a little of "FiRE+iCE Interactive Grill & Bar" in Boston. While I've only been once, the concept is very similar. Toss what you want into a bowl, it's cooked on a large flattop, and bon appétit. A key difference IIRC: F&I is AYCE only, and you choose what any how much meat you want, with Flat Top meat is added by chefs at the grill. You can also go AYCE for $6 extra if you so prefer. FTG has a lot of great things going for it! There is a generous amount of veggies and starches to choose from, as well as a sauce selection that even rivals Shinwa Korean Steakhouse. The ingredients were fresh and well labeled. However, the sauce section could use some refinement. Grabbing veggies with tongs generally a pretty clean affair. However, when it comes to a small ladle of sauce from under a sneeze shield, it is much less so. Further, while the sauces were labeled with a very short description, some more detail would have been welcome. As a sauce combo makes or breaks the bowl, a spectrum for sweet, salty, sour, bitter, savory, and spicy would do wonders. Where it comes to proteins, I opted for Steak + Sausage, both of which had good flavor and were provided in ample amounts. The bowl I made for myself came out not too shabby, though I suppose I gave. I one to blame but myself. At the same time, having better sauce labels would have gone a long way. Thus, while FTP isn't anything revolutionary, it remains a respectable choice for a working lunch. t the same time, I would not classify it as a foodie destination. read more

Went here for my sister's birthday lunch with the family and kids. Kids always love making their bowls with their random concoctions of ingredients Kids pick. Its a hit for adults and kids.
