Once in a while, you get the courage to splurge on a family dinner. My family and I decided to do just that on July 4th at Fogo in downtown Chicago. Seven people, $700 all in, and so much regret. Service: 3/5 I'll start with the positive: the customer service was overall pretty good. It was raining hard, so after walking a few miles and exhausting other indoor options, we popped in 30 minutes early to see if they could seat us. They could, and they got us in quickly. So far, so good. I'm only giving this three stars because, at the start of our meal, servers poured out of the kitchen all at once. Normally, that would be great--better to be overwhelmed with food than wondering where it is--but the situation resembled chaos more than efficiency. They were in and out so quickly that I barely knew what I was being served. That said, I'll give them credit where it's due: they checked on us several times and kept our drinks full and the table stocked with bread. Food: 1/5 It was just bad. No amount of good service can make up for bad food. The salad bar was "meh." A decent assortment of options, but nothing to write home about. The meat--which is the whole point of the experience--was honestly terrible. It had no flavor, none. Somehow, even the fattier cuts were bland; I wondered if they forgot to season them entirely. It didn't help that almost every piece of meat we received, regardless of what we requested, was well-done and bone-dry. I tried so hard to enjoy it, but every bite was just a reminder that I was out $700 for food you'd usually have to pay me to eat. It was my birthday, and while I was surprised when the staff brought out a lava cake and ice cream, it was a bit odd that half the ice cream was already melted all over the plate by the time it reached the table. Atmosphere: 3/5 It was fine--nothing to brag about, but about what you'd expect from Fogo. My one critique is the smell; it was a lot better outside than inside. There was this weird, clinical scent--I don't even know how to describe it--that permeated the dining room. Otherwise, it was acceptable. Cost: 1/5 Way overpriced considering what we actually got. It really stings to waste our "once-a-year" expensive family dinner on such awful food. We're done with Fogo, unfortunately. read more

We were greeted by the lovely host and then we were taken to our table as reserved. Any table there is worth it, cozy in any spot. We had many servers waiters bc there they don't assign one to a table all servers are there to help any table. We had Eber who helped and he was fantastic and helped us with drinks. Then we had Carlos help us he was a delight and told me I can get a free desert bc it was my birthday which we didn't know so that was a big plus, and omg that crème brûlée cheesecake was out of this world phenomenal it was magic in my soul. Top notch best ever ever ever!! The salad bar was another spectacular view and they had everything I wanted in a salad I felt like I e died and gone to salad heaven. You really need to come hungry, starving, even. And we were, but their cheese bread puff appetizer is also amazing... so don't eat too many with your cocktails!!! There is an enormous salad bar, with so many healthy options that if you've ordered the whole sampling package, like we did, you might fill up on it and not get to enjoy all the amazing meats that are hand carved at your table - all meal long! So caution, pace yourself. We had a large group as we were there for Hawai'i on the Hill with the Chamber of Commerce. We were given a cute card (similar to a beverage coaster) and instructed to flip it to Yes or No as desired. It basically signals the staff to offer you the freshly carved meat selections or not, and you can pause or gorge as you see fit! There's so many offerings, I can't itemize all of them here - but think chicken, pork, beef, lamb, and more, in different cuts, and cooked to perfection in many different presentations! You'll eat all meal long, and even after salads, soups, meats and drinks, they literally bring more side dishes to your table, such as their grilled plantains and mashed potatoes. Love Fogo de Chão...downtown or in Schaumburg specifically. I went for my boyfriend's birthday, and we had a great experience. One of the managers, Will, was super friendly, checked on us a few times, and made us laugh. Our server was nice...he forgot the mashed potatoes, but they made up for it at the end. Compared to the Orland location (which had a weird smell when I walked in and had my stomach messed up later that night), this one smelled like good food, as it should. I also preferred the downtown menu...the indulgent option came with mashed potatoes, seafood, and the usual meats. The lamb chops, bottom round, filet mignon, and picanha were all flavorful and delicious. The crab cake was good, but I liked Orland's version a bit more. The lobster tail was rather small and it didn't taste the best in my opinion. For dessert my bf got two (one came with the meal & one free for his bday) we had chocolate molton cake (which was decent) and a papaya creme (I wouldn't recommend!) The space was large and had nice decor, and I appreciated being seated along the wall instead of in the middle of the dining area. I love the Fogo de Chao brand, and have for a long time (where long should probably be interpreted in the context of my expected lifespan given my cholesterol level). That said, this is one of my least favorite branches in the family; feels like you are in a fast food restaurant almost. Last time we went on a weekend, and I've hired a private investigator to try to determine who are server was. While I enjoy a mystery dinner party as much as the next person (not at all), it was ridiculous. The food is pretty good, but the diversity of the cuts of meat coming to our table was not super inspiring. While we are on the subject, do we think it's worse to be the "garlic chicken" gaucho or the "picanha" gaucho? It almost seems like the former is a punishment for bad behavior; the server always looks a bit depressed but unsurprised when we say no... read more

I came into this location for the $1 Caipirinhas deal during the last week of July. The drinks did have a 2/pp limit, which waa fine b/c that's plenty. I found out that they have them same special on Tuesdays, all day. The only ask is that you're a reward member. You dont earn points but you earn perks for things on visits. Now outside of that I also came for Happy hour which is all day everyday. I've been to fogo several times for their Brazilian experience, including this location and I am not a huge fan of their churrasco experience. The food seems to come out slow, bland & not hot. However I do enjoy the Happy hour menu, which includes $6 bites & $10 cocktails. Outside of the HH menu they have $16 lamb chops & they are pretty good!!! I haven't sat down for the churrasco in about 2yrs & hope that they improved since then. I was shocked that the bar area was empty at 5p on a Friday night. A buddy took me here for a late birthday celebration and had an okay experience. We were seated in a corner of the restaurant and felt like we were being ignored half the night. It wasn't until I made an active effort to tell one of our nearby waiters that we weren't getting any appetizers or certain dishes that then we started getting those. But i shouldn't have to ask that, as the restaurant was not even busy. The meats themselves were done nicely and they have lots of juicy cuts of meat, with a variety of cooking preference. My personal favorite was the bottom sirloin and picanha. The salad bar was also pretty mid - lots of the dishes seemed like they were not fresh and had been sitting out for awhile. The sides were good though - especially the classic pao de queijo (cheese bread) and mashed potatoes. But if you want to go to a brazilian steakhouse, it's hard to recommend this place. Its conveniently located but i wouldn't say it's worth the steep price for a head. Came for Thanksgiving with a very large group and it was surprisingly easy to be seated upon arrival, although the entrance area is quite chaotic as per usual. This was my second or third time and unfortunately the worst visit I've had so far. The variety of meats was much more limited than the last time I came and they did not have turkey (which they said they would serve that night). They also consistently served medium well instead of medium rare which was quite frustrating - it might have been too loud to hear in the room? They ran out of several items rather quickly and they seemed to struggle with having enough for the amount of reservations they accepted. Valmor was our point man and did a great job serving us, ensuring we had everything we needed to offer our clients a great time for our Trends & Friends trunk show. He was so friendly and helpful and made me smile! Hostess Wendy did a great job of ushering our guests to the private room; Cyrus kept the salad bar looking beautiful; Nevo and Alvaro went above and beyond to come in super early to serve as valet and handled several cars lickety split! They even got there before I did which I greatly appreciate! And it's good to see a familiar Anthony Bourdain like face again :P The private dining areas are spacious and modular so you can customize them to your needs. The food is always delicious and the manager Reido made sure everything went great with the final bill, he even made it easy for us to visit again by offering us thank you gift cards! I usually come here all the time but today I was absolutely disappointed. They barely came around with steak, but when they did it was the same kind of meat being served. We waited and waited and waited but nothing new came around. It was sad that we ate more of their salad bar than the actually meat. Overall the experience was ok. Given that it was Mother's day it was crowded and loud. Which was to be expected. The only problem I had was a toddler that was sitting at the table next to us, was crying the whole time we were there. It kinda ruined the experience, I didn't get to enjoy my meal. As far as the food it was also ok. They gave us a small spoonful of mashed potatoes for 2 people, which was ridiculous for as much as it cost. The portion would have suited a child. For a top notch restaurant in the heart of Chicago and a $200 bill for 2 people, the service was very disappointing. I had high expectations, and my experience did not meet them. For context, I have been to several different Foga de Chãos, but this was my first time at this location. I've been to MUCH nicer locations, in terms of service and decor. Most of the servers and waiters seemed to hate their job. There was only 1-2 meats on the floor at a time, when other locations that are similar sizes had 4-5. We had to wait 20 minutes for our check and eventually had to ask someone to bring it to us. The food was pretty good, but that's the only reason the restaurant doesn't get 1 or 2 stars. read more

I've been coming to Fogo de Chão for over a decade - at least 50 visits - and it remains one of my favorite restaurants in the city. If you're a first-timer, here are some tips I've picked up along the way to get the best possible experience: 1. Sign up for their emails. They regularly send out $25 coupons, which makes a big difference on a meal like this. 2. Ask for chimichurri. It's not listed anywhere, but they'll bring it for free if you request it. The acidity and herbs really brighten up the rich cuts of meat. 3. Choose your sides wisely. The mashed potatoes, caramelized bananas, and cheese bread are all excellent, but skip the crispy polenta - it's bland compared to everything else. 4. Be strategic at the salad bar. Grab two plates: one for your salad items and one empty plate to take back to your table. That way, you'll have plenty of room when the gauchos start bringing meat around. 5. This place is a relic. Like a real ancient reminder of what steakhouses used to be. The decor upon entry was immediately underwhelming and it explained why half the restaurant was empty. My hubby and I recently dined here for our 6th year wedding anniversary because we had never been and we will never be again. The cold buffet gave me pandemic heebie jeebies as if I would have eaten there before I learned about the danger of breathing on other people's food let alone sharing utensils. And the fact that the food was cold told me that there was no heat to kill any potential bacteria being spread from one patron to another. This felt like a high priced cafeteria and I understand why I saw tables with small children with vacationing parents choosing to dine there. Our waiter was new but there were more experienced service staff who tried to make our experience as pleasant as possible. In this order I enjoyed the following: 1. Cold bar chicken salad only because my hubby found it and it had the most flavor in the entire place. It was out when I went up to the cold bar before him. 2. Bottom sirloin medium. The rest of the meat lacks seasoning cause they're just churning it out without much TLC. 3. Breath mints as you exit. Sad but this handful was the highlight of my life. STOP and STAY FAR AWAY from this location! On Nov. 23rd my purse - hidden under my coat which was draped over my chair- with my wallet, phone and car keys inside was stolen from this location. We believe it was an inside job done by the waitstaff. Why? At one moment during my dinner with my husband and two friends 3-4 servers ambushed our table at the same time with different cuts of meat. This is when we think my purse was stolen. After we notified manager on duty that evening who offered no assistance and said "there's not much we can do." I emailed the corporate office and informed them of what occurred and I NEVER RECEIVED A RESPONSE. Shortly after my purse was stolen my husband pinged my phone to East Ohio Street, just past St. Clair, up in one of the apartments. I am Brazilian by marriage and my husband is born and raised in Sao Paulo. We are repeat customers to Fogo. The quality of the meat here has gone down. The pieces of picanha we received had ends that were tough and chewy. My husband thought there wasn't any seasoning on the meat. The pao de queijo (cheese bread) was hard. The meat service seemed a bit scarce for the amount of people dinning. At one point, we waited about 30 min for a gaucho to come by. Taste wise, it was the best cooked meat I've had at this chain. The waiters seemed overwhelmed as well, I ordered a second caipirinha ..... never came but we were charged for it. It was loud, which is understandable since they were at full capacity. We also ordered the wine bottles that were half off. $67/person and we ate sooo many amazing meats. My favorite was the sirloin and filet mignon... literally overwhelmed by how good it was. Initially it was a bit overwhelming at first when they come at you with literal meat skewers and knives. This place is definetely a high energy experience. We were celebrating a couple of birthdays and so a group of 4 of us got there at 630pm and I am glad we did, the place filled up pretty quickly. It's basically an all you can eat steak house with a salad bar stocked full of cheeses, charcuterie, and salads of all kinds. Then with little coasters to indicate if you're ready for the meats, servers will come around and slice up various cuts for you. The meats were the star of course! Dessert was good, drinks were okay.
