Blonde bartender with long hair took my order last Sunday and for whatever reason decided to serve every person at the bar top nearby that ordered before and after I did. At one point I kindly told him "If you're busy I can go to another bartender" to which he just laughed. After waiting over 20 minutes for drinks and seeing every new person that showed up being served before me despite already giving him my order I decided to leave. I hadn't been here in a while but STAY AWAY. Me and my friend got our phones stolen last night and met 4 more people the same night that theirs got stolen too. 6 stolen phones in one night! And those are the ones I heard about, this one girl told me she had phone inside her purse! There is a sign saying that they are not responsible for stolen phones which means they know there's several people watching your every move so they can steal from you. Welfare Wednesday is pretty lit. If you know what Hillcrest entails. It was crowded when we came and there was no cover charge. Drinks are basically the best thing because they were only $2. It was fun for what it was. I didn't have any negative experiences with the bouncers (like what the other reviews had stated) and from what I saw, everyone else was enjoying it. Honestly I had a lot of fun here until I realized how rude the staff were. The crowd is fun but management seriously needs to learn some respect. Was yelled at for going to the wrong restroom on accident, in which I apologized but the staff member had a serious attitude. Mind it be known, I had only one drink here and was taking care of my friends. As I waited outside to call a friend, I was rudely told to move away from the side of the road I was on. It was no longer very crowded, so I let them know I was just trying to make sure my friend could find us. I was not causing any harm and was yelled at. The woman security guard said I was blocking the sidewalk and Uber's, although I am a small person simply waiting for a friend and the line was no longer existent. The way she approached me was completely unacceptable so I let her know I disagreed with how she reacted and then she had the audacity to tell me I was the one with the attitude problem. Then when trying to go back inside to remove my friend from the scene, they refused to let me grab her and leave. The manager also told me to leave although I had not done anything wrong, and was trying to be responsible and get my friend home safely. Maybe speak to customers with respect. I visited Flicks with some friends while in town for business in May on a Thursday night. I took a Lyft because it's busy at night and there is very little parking in Hillcrest because there is a vibrant night scene here with a bunch of bars and I did not even want to try to deal with that. There was no cover when I arrived and they had dancers and loud music. I can't remember what was happening the night we were there but they had some money booths set up where you get inside the blow-up booth and they blow money around inside for you to try to get as much as you can in 30-60 seconds. So that was fun. I think if you come during a special themed night or on weekends or for a show it is really hopping and fun - when I was there on a week night with no special theme it was just really a space-out group of people sticking to their cliques watching the sexy go-go dancers. Awesome Club! Nice and friendly staff. My partner recently lost most of his hearing and has issues because of it. The club was pumping last night, and of course, the music was expectedly loud. But, it became too loud for my partner. I asked an employee if they had any ear plugs I could purchase from them. Immediately, the staff member left and quickly returned with a pair of ear plugs for my partner. And, he wouldn't take any money for them. Because of his kindness, we were able to stay at the club and continue having a great time. You don't get good or friendly service at a lot of places nowadays. We came here for drag brunch and it was the first and last time we ever will. While waiting for our brunch seating, we had a round of drinks inside, and I gave my credit card to the bartender to start a tab. We then proceeded outside for the drag brunch seating. After an hour (seriously) of trying to flag down a bartender (they kept bee-lining for other tables, not even glancing in our direction), we finally got to order a second round of drinks. I informed our server that I had a card on file inside already and he confirmed everything was good with the tab I had started. The show itself was a lot of fun, and once we finally had our server's attention, the service was great. The problem came at the end when it was time to close my check. The server brought back a slip for me to sign, but there was no sign of my credit card. I asked him to check with the bartender I had given it to and he told me, "We return the cards after we authorize them." Well, four people at my table (myself included) can confirm that the bartender, nor the server, returned my card. The server insisted I must have gotten my card back and it had to be in my pocket or my wallet. Uh, no, and here is the blank space in my wallet where it would be, if you had returned it to me... I went inside to track down the bartender that I originally gave my card to and asked him where it was. He also insisted that he gave it back to me, another lie which us four patrons quickly repudiated. My husband has the same credit card (Costco Visa) as me and we showed him exactly what it looked like. He checked their three-inch-thick "lost" card stash (Side note: Why do you have a stash of cards if you give them back after you authorize them? ) and didn't find it. The bartender suddenly had an epiphany and realized he gave my card to another patron. He ran around the bar, inside and out, and tried to track them down, but it was too late. They were gone, and I was just standing there, a victim of his incompetence. Thank you Flicks, for what was truly a memorable experience. Never trust a bar that charges for a drag "brunch", and only has four food items on the menu. It looks like whoever the bartender gave my card to is trying to actively use it. My husband and I were out on Halloween in the early evening and walked by flicks, decided to stop in for a drink because it looked fun. Busy, but not crazy without room to move. Luckily found a spot at the bar and patiently waited for the bartender to come take my order. Unfortunately, he kept serving multiple people that arrived after me, even after acknowledging I was there with eye contact. After a little while longer of waiting, the bartender poured himself and the shot person a shot and took the shot while I was waiting. Like with any place there is always room for redemption. Flicks seems to have parted ways with it's non colorful past, at least in my eyes. I went there with a friend on a Sunday afternoon. It wasn't busy but we stayed for a drink before we headed to a wedding. They ask for a credit card up front so I gave them mine. We realized the time and had to leave quickly got the bill filled out the CC form and left. I realized after I left San Diego that I didn't have my card. I have tried repeatedly to contact via phone and email to find out if I left my CC there. No one answers the phone or has replied to my email. I have a hold on it so I'm not worried but it's frustrating that I can't reach anyone that works there. read more

I don't know why this only has 3 stars. I've had quite a few fun nights here. The bouncers outside are always scanning the crowd making sure that people are having safe fun. The bartenders (though overwhelmed) make sure they always get to you in the order that you arrive to the bar. They're really friendly and social when it's slower. I like coming here because it's somewhere I can be my truest self without judgement from anyone. Most people don't dance which is really sad because they play great music. I'm not sure why this only gets a 3 stars average. Flicks is a Hillcrest staple and guaranteed fun time. Inexpensive drinks, good service, fun karaoke, cool bartenders and karaoke hosts. I sing with the San Diego Gay Men's Chorus and enjoy chatting with out-of-towners, running into regulars, and making new friends between songs. I've seen it dinged on another review for having an outdoor patio that allows smoking. But I've never had an issue with smoke blowing inside. Moreover, as a singer, I benefit from vaping medical marijuana, and to me having an outdoor patio that allows smoking is a reasonable accommodation given the prevalence of smoking in the LGBT community (I'm also a doctor). read more

It was very packed when we went on a Friday night, even more packed when we walked by on Saturday night. Lots of people standing around in groups chattering. My kind of bar. I love the laid back/casual feeling of this bar. Drink prices are comparable to most places and the bartenders seem to be fairly quick. There's a stage at the front on the side of the room. Doesn't look like there's much use for it, but I'm guessing there may be performances on other nights. Only downside to the bar is the open patio. The inside of the bar pretty much smells like cigarette smoke because the doors are left open.
