We had a concert to go to at Northerly Island and wanted to grab drinks and food somewhere nearby. This was the perfect spot. Came here with 5 other people and we were seated immediately on a Saturday afternoon. We came at a good time as the patio filled up quickly not too long after we arrived. They have different deals every day, and on Saturdays they have $15 buckets of domestics or Polish brews. My friends went with the latter and had fun trying out unfamiliar beers. We got the salt & pepper calamari to share which was good, and three people from our group ordered the angus steakburger, which came with waffle fries. They all seemed to enjoy it. I picked some fries off of people's plates and man were they addicting. Crispy and perfectly seasoned. We had multiple servers attend to us, which was super nice! Stop 1 on a pizza tour. Had never heard of a Polish/Italian fusion restaurant, but I was quite impressed! We were given 3 types of pizzas to try- italian beef with giardinera, a sauerkraut and kielbasa pizza, and their farmer's market pizza (this rotates in flavors) which was roasted brussel sprouts and a white sauce. My favorite was the italian beef one- nice kick from the peppers and the beef had good flavor too! YUM. I know the Polish pizza made many believers on our tour group (2 people said "I hate sauerkraut, but this pizza changed my mind!"), but I'm not a huge kielbasa fan, and this had thick pieces on it, so it wasn't my favorite. The white pizza was different than expected. I guess when I hear the word "white sauce" I think of crappy alfredo from Olive Garden, but this was a nice feta sauce that had great flavor. The roasted brussel sprouts were thick pieces and also pretty good, but I think my pizza brain couldn't wrap its head around the concept of a brussel sprout pizza, so I didn't end up eating the whole piece. The restaurant is long and narrow, and remained crowded the whole time we were there. There's an outdoor patio area which turned into a heated tent area for the winter. We were forced to sit out there since our tour group had 17 people in it, and the owner/manager felt bad, since it was cold. He came out with a Polish vodka and gave us all shots to warm us up! I was very disappointed in this place. I stopped by here excited to try a new place during restaurant week. When I looked at the regular menu, I realized that the restaurant week special was only am dollar of the regular price. And you couldn't use the foursquare check in offer for a free beer. So we decided it was a better deal to actually get what we wanted. What a concept! We ordered the loaded waffle fries that had blue cheese and jalapeño bacon on it. These were good, but as little too much blue cheese sauce on it. I was expecting solid chunks not a creamy sauce. We had there Italian beef pizza which I was not a fan if. The sauce was too sweet. It smelled as sweet as BBQ sauce. Not so good with an Italian beef pizza. We were going to order a dessert, but our waitress was so slow. We just wanted to leave! After wasiting around twenty minutes my boyfriend went up to the bar to ask for our check and we got out of there. Also, the bathrooms here were gross. That is always unappetizing. read more

Every neighborhood needs a place like Flo & Santos: friendly, down to earth, consistently solid food, and drinks that aren't going to break the bank. The mark of a great neighborhood spot is the feeling of being a regular even after just a couple of visits. Didn't even have to give the bartender my drink order last time I was here (probably my 3rd or 4th time): a bourbon & diet was already sitting on the bar in front of me. On to the food. I'm not much of a pizza eater, but when I cheat I tend to do it here. I don't think you could call it thin crust per se, but definitely on the thinner end of the spectrum with a delicious flaky crust and not too heavy on the sauce. Believe the hype about the waffle fries. And have I mentioned yet that I love the bartenders? On a particularly rough Monday, I didn't even have to explain twice that I needed an incognito bloody mary during a lunch with co-workers: it was out in the same red water cup as everyone else in minutes. I have had this place bookmarked for 6 months, and was finally in Southloop at a time I needed to eat so stopped in for Sunday lunch. My food came, no sauce... 10 minutes later called fries no sign of the server... I went to the host and asked if she could help me, and finally 5 minutes later I got cheese sauce. And it was so disappointing!!! The fries were good and the 78 brand ketchup was amazing. The sandwich was dry and very uninteresting.... I should've ordered pizza. My husband got the wings and was also pretty disappointed. Rated them a 6 out of 10. But, The sangria was good! Let's just say in Polish and from the south, so sports (inherently, as much as I resist) run through my blood. Especially basketball. This is one of my sisters favorite spots in Chicago. She is now a resident of Illinois and the last three times I've visited her we have been here two of those times. If you eat anything on this menu, get the pirogues. Even if you're not polish and didn't grow up eating sauerkraut and sugar free pastries, the pirogues are delicious. You get three types with a side of sour cream and applesauce. Just dab. Little on each one and you have heaven in your mouth.. Promise, Jesus would eat them. This past time I was there I ordered the chicken soup and turkey avocado BLT (both pictures are posted). After not feeling well for a good portion of the weekend this was my first legitimate meal. Man, was it delicious. The soup was hot, the sandwich was fresh and it was perfect. As a table we ask split an appetizer of pirogues. They actually needed up going us 4 potato and cheese ones instead of 2 sauerkraut ones and 2 potato ones. But we pointed it out to them and they comped us two sauerkraut ones. So nice. (And they know how good they are;) I've never had their pizzas... I'm lactose intolerant and it's not my fav., but they always smell and look delicious. We were seated quickly; party of two. I am vegetarian so I had the beyond vegan burger (may not be the right name). The vegan bun and the patty were a delicious combination. My boyfriend had the grilled chicken on a ciabatta roll. He sandwich was huge! Both came with avocado. Yum. The waffle fries were light and fluffy. Just needed to be warmer. We are not drinkers. So sorry no alcohol report. The pizza smelled fabulous. Didn't have it though. Service was pretty fast. Next time might consider sitting outside. Definitely worth a quick meal before or after hanging out downtown. It can be loud. So be prepared to talk loud enough for your company to hear you. Appetizer time was a little bit of disappointment. To me, F&S defines Chicago: friendly people, good comfort food, sports on big tv screens, beer, beer, and...more beer. Do me one big favor and get their WAFFLE FRIES. It is THE best waffle fries I've ever even in my life. I would fly all the way back to Chicago just to taste them again. It's that good. I got the one with melted cheddar, applewood smoked bacon, and scallions. The cheddar was indeed melted -- and no, none of that stringy gross nacho cheese that hardens after 5 mins and becomes all gooey. It's legitly melted and spreads wonderfully among all the waffle fries. And the fries are perfectly made -- it doesn't get soft and soggy under all the toppings. Eat them hot, and eat them fast! Honorable Mention: Marco's Italian Beef Pizza (shaved beef, giardiniera, caramelized onion, fire roasted tomato) After eating Chicago's famous deep dish pizza, it's nice to know that Chicago makes bomb-diggity thin crust pizza too! The pizzas are HUGE - mind you, a 12" "medium" that serves 1-2 really serves 2-3 people. They cut the pizza in squares, which is kind of cool. I think the toppings were fresh, but I really liked how the pizza was crispy and very thin! Definitely try the pork wings - so good and the best thing here. Braised pork shank, on the bone, then deep fried about slathered in either buffalo, bbq, or teriyaki sauce. Then have the s'mores desert pizza. So good that makes you think that you're at the fire roasting some marshmallows. Pizza....well...just ok. Inventive combinations but not the best here. We tried the pepperoni pizza, margarita, and Italian beef. Def order don't the margarita...like eating frozen pizza I've gotta say. Best is pepperoni but would not come back for it. 100 other places are better. Italian beef was good but nothing special. Service...also just ok. I went here tonight for an event (Stella Artois Summer Music Series) so needless to say it was crowded, but we were able to get 2 seats at the bar. They were giving out free beer, which I don't like so I'll skip right to the food. I'm a huge HUGE pizza person. We ordered the Gracie's pizza and I just found it okay and a little bland actually. The sausage had no flavor and I wasn't a big fan of the crust which is very important to me. The waffle fries were okay. I thought it was a little too much blue cheese and not enough jalapeños. The food was definitely not terrible, but to me it was just okay. I'm a big fan of outdoor seating and they had a nice patio to enjoy the outdoors. It was family friendly and they had outdoor seating which is a huge requirement for my husband. I didn't catch her name, but she was very pleasant to speak to, which enhanced my experience given that I'm a very socially awkward person, and she was phenomenal. We started off The pizza came out very hot and crispy. The cheesy garlic bread had a little too much cheese for my liking, but the bread was flaky and garlicky. Our final stop on the Houston to Chicago roadtrip (well, after the disembarkation to our new apartment, anyway). So it goes here for posterity. Flo & Santos is one of those neighborhood bar and grills that's not unique or super-great, but you'll find yourself coming back to it anyway. It feels like there a few of those in the South Loop area. After getting Pi Pizza in St. Louis (deep dish, natch), it was only fitting that our first meal in Chicago was a thin crust pizza. We ordered the Buffalo Bill's Chicken, which came amply topping'ed and very saucy, just like I like it. Unfortunately, and unlike our Pi's experience, you cannot split specialty pizzas, meaning I got to try neither the more famed Italian Beef nor Pierogi options (since the wife eats neither beef nor pork). One day... Of the salads, both the wife and I preferred the panzanella to the antipasto. A recent experience here with pasta only made me wish we had gone to, say, Little Italy instead. That said, the pizza here is solid, the service is friendly, and the beer list looks very good. The patio dining, especially with amazing weather like now, is a huge plus in the South Loop area, and Flo & Santos does that well. I'd recommend this place for a beer and a bite, less so for a casual dinner. As we continue to scout the area, that idea may move up or down the local list. read more

How have I not been here sooner? Seriously. So now, I trying to make up for it cause I've been here twice this week. I just love the feel of the place. Its a perfect casual, neighborhood restaurant/bar. Its warm, inviting, and just a great place to chill - with friends, with family, with whoever. An added plus is that the service is great. I mean, they are friendly and you can tell they care. Good service is just hard to come by these days and they definitely set themselves apart. The food is good, it doesn't blow my mind, but its definitely good. I've tried a couple pizzas, a couple appetizers, and a salad. My favorites are the onion rings and the antipasto salad. Some of the best pizza I've had, visited my hometown in December and I still recommend the Italian Beef pizza. Fresh gooey cheese, crispy well seasoned crust and delicious beef and peppers. I've even had the Polish pizza too, another good one- the sweet sauerkraut with the bacon, very tasty. Also the pork wings and cheese fries are divine and sinful. Nothing you should eat every day, but perfect for a cheat day. Great service, family friendly and very dark pub feel. Sidenote: Delivery is fast and quick too. Nice big patio that is dog-friendly! That is why we went. Fusion on Poilsh and Italian foods. The pierogi sampler was delicious. Very tasty! Pretty perfect. We then had a pizza topped with pepperoni, spinach and goat cheese. It was very good. Sauce was not too sweet/ not too tangy. They have Żywiec On tap! Amazing!!! Very good beer. So incredibly good. I first came here as part of the Chicago Pizza Tour and knew I'd have to go back! The pizza is thin and crispy with great flavor. They have all the standard toppings and so much more. It's the only place for 300 miles the I've been able to get SAUERKRAUT on pizza and I make the trip just for that treat!
