Great for a drink if you've been on the beach. Better than average bar food. Monday's are buy 1 get 1 free burritos and they are tasty. Wednesday is college night and they serve $0.50 beers which I think why Wednesday's at Float were nick-named DUI night. I like Float sometimes during the day, all of the bartenders are great, but sometimes at night this 33 year old (who still likes to party) feels just a tad old when going there to drink at night. If you're under 27, hit it up, but those who are 30 somethings might want to walk across the street to Beerfoot for a slightly more mature crowd. Get in their pool? Ew. Eww. Ewwwwww!!!!! We heard this place was cool and had good drink specials. If by cool they meant sketchy, creepy, and down right nasty then this would be a place you would consider cool. They have a giant pool for everyone to hang out in and people were fornicating in the pool in front of everyone and the staff just turned their heads and didn't stop it from happening. People, this is not a place for children. I can't stress that enough. Do not bring your kids. I go there to get hammered and so does everyone i know. I have kids and would never bring them within 100 feet of the float. I've been going since opening day and have made a lot of great memories. The carabooloo is a dangerously good drink. Have only two unless you're an extreme alcoholic and have a high tolerance. The staff is okay most days. The pool is nasty. Nobody gets out to pee. Ewww. Stopped in to Float one Tuesday night after seeing the $9.95 steak special listed on their website. My boyfriend was the one really excited about the steak, so he was more sad than I was when we found out they didn't do it anymore but we decided to stay anyway. We sat there for about 10 minutes before anyone ever came over to say hey and give us menus. This always bugs me when there is not a full restaurant and the servers dont look very busy at all. If you are slammed, just say "hi, I'll be right with you." That way we still know we exist and we know you know we do too. Finally the server came over with some menus and got our drink orders. I ordered a margarita and Nate, a beer. The margarita tasted like pure sour mix. I guess that's what I get for ordering house margaritas but at some places they are good so it's always worth a shot. We ordered some food shortly after receiving our drinks. I ordered the soup and salad since I wasn't crazy hungry. The soup was delicious. It was a chicken tortilla soup and it was brothy but surprisingly awesome and full of flavor. I'm used to the creamy kind, but this was great! Nate got the burger and said it was just a standard bar burger and nothing really stuck out about it. We did not visit the pool part of it because well, it was a late February evening and I'm good on that. We might have to come back when it gets warmer and try it out. read more

Took my cousin that was visiting from Los Angeles here since she really wanted to try authentic Tex-Mex on the seawall. The place looked way more nice in pictures. It seems as if they have not kept up with upkeep for the building in years. Nonetheless the concept is awesome. There is a pool in the middle and margaritas are delicious. We started with the beef messy nachos and ordered an array of different tacos to try the most popular ones. All very delicious. My favorite would be the shrimp taco verdes. Service is a bit slow. My advice is to order at the bar then have a seat. read more

I have to say this was a fun, different little spot... Refreshing and fun... It is a breezy open windows bar with an outdoor patio area with a pool so you can swim and drink. Small pool the bar is not super big but big enough to have a full house on a wed. night when we went... Juke box music, full bar, we had a blast there! Next time we take bathing suits! LOL read more

Tourists beware!!!!!!!! I live on the island year round. I used to love coming to float especially in the winter when nobody was there so we would get served quickly. I visited float for the first time this summer and was shocked to see how much smaller they had made the burgers. The burger was half the size it used to be in the winter (likely changed to serve more people with less meat and make more money) THE BURGER WAS TINY. Wish I could've taken a picture before but I finished it in 4 bites. I was also disappointed to see they also changed from their amazing special fries to normal fries that were bland and soggy. The place was packed (I get it it's summer) with no where to sit and music was blaring the entire time. I couldn't even hear the person sitting across the table. My friends and I used to come to float every week during the off season. We were all so surprised how many changes had been made so that float could just make more money and overcharge the tourists for less food than they usually serve. If you go through the other reviews on yelp you can see the positive ones are all during the off season before June. This bar is the kind of place where you show off the island's lackadaisical mentality. Wednesday nights are college nights, but the average age of patrons leans more towards high school. The food is disappointing to say the least. The bartenders are dismissive and will engage in conversation with old pals when there are more than 10 people waiting to order. I would like to say on Halloween I walked inside and the serves was very bad because it took me about twenty (20) minutes to a beer because the bartender awareness visions is not what a good bartender duties but she did apologize and we made up. But the Manager has a very bad attitude plus he was very judgmental and so hateful wouldn't answer any of my questions at all. Also, I saw a female was so drunk walked out the club and nobody didn't even check on her at all but maybe a half hour later a female walked inside the club and told the manager but he didn't show any concern at all anyway he did make a effort to check it out. Great affordable food! Not like a lot of the other places I've gone to. I came with a group of 5. This place is find a table and then they'll greet you sort of place. Our food came out pretty fast, we ordered shrimp tacos, fish tacos, burger, burrito, and queso. I also ordered a mango kiss drink which was good but weak. I would definitely give this place a try during their happy hour since it's the only place near my hotel with good prices that aren't going to leave my pockets empty. read more

We went on a cold rainy night and still had a great time, the bartender was very nice! Drinks were strong and cheap. The locals were laid back and friendly! The younger patrons in the corner were having fun playing beer pong. We had a great side view of the outdoor pool that is a swim up bar. This place is probably a blast during the summer too. Ah Float. Float, float rows my boat. Let me start with the service, the only word for it is impeccable. All the servers here are professional and service is almost immediate, day or night, it doesn't matter. The atmosphere is something out of Hugh Heffners wet dream. The pool water is so clear I THOUGHT IT WAS EMPTY the first time i saw it. The floral aroma that greets you at the door is positively heavenly. The entire place is so clean Jesus would eat off the floor. They play a variety of music that keeps you on your toes but you can always groove to. Okay now a couple words of caution the clientele ranges from successful to very successful and they have a VERY strict dress code. Don't come looking like a scrub or you may not be so happy with your reception. They'll love you anyway, but may not serve you. A couple other side notes. The food is so gourmet youd think Anthony Bourdain was in the kitchen. Oh and the fountain oh my monkey muffins its one of the most beautiful things ive ever seen. For people watching, Float is hard to beat. There's tremendous entertainment value observing folks imbibing and splish-splashing, so for this alone you should consider visiting Float. I won't be commenting on the food because it's been forever since I ate anything there. If it is helpful, I don't remember it being alarmingly bad or anything...but that said, it would seem it wasn't all that memorable either. So, on to the drinks. I am perfectly happy with my seven & seven served in a plastic cup (no glass at the pool!) with a lime wedge and a lemon wedge, but poor Dan has serious issues with Float's beer selection and won't consume their mixed drinks because they store bottles in the same ice they use for said drinks. Storing bottles in the drink ice does seem odd to me but I've decided that the alcohol should kill any germs that might result from this practice. Back to the sad, sad beer selection: on draft, they have Dos Equis, Ziegenboch, and Land Shark plus (probably) the old standbys Bud/Bud Light and other similar brews...Dan says he doesn't recall because his eyes filter all that swill out. Much to his annoyance, there is really excellent beer at Beerfoot Beach Bar, but you can't buy beer there and bring it to Float because of stupid liquor laws. So, ultimately, I can only drag him here occasionally, and when I do, he looks so aggrieved that it seriously screws with my enjoyment. This was my local spot 3-4 days a week for about 2 years. bartenders are awesome, drinks strong, the crowd can be hit or miss but for the most part good. 50cent beers on wednsdays! perfect beach view from the patio. I was on a bachelorette party, plenty ready to spend money.. and all we wanted were SKINNY margaritas. The server proceeded to tell me that she didn't have time to squeeze my limes for my drink. Me and my wife have been to the float about 8 times and have always had a great time until this past weekend. We went here this past weekend and we were so disappointed in the place, it was terrible. We always get a room at the hotel behind it just so we can stay at the float and have a good time. We ordered a pitcher of beer first, the guy also brought us some limes in a bowl which had a nasty long dark hair in it. I was going to ask for more but then i saw a waitress carrying limes which she dropped on the floor then started cutting them up without washing them off, so limes were out of the question. We ordered our food, i ordered the fried shrimp like always and my wife ordered grilled shrimp, I kid you not our food was taking over an hour and there wasn't even allot of people ordering, the waitress gave us some excuse about the fried shrimp taking longer, I finally got fed up and canceled the food order. We just finished our beer as fast as we could and got the hell out of there, we walked to Fish Tales a block away and got a great meal.The float has really gone down, it was dirty like no one wipes down tables or the bar, the place is crawling with what looks to be out of work locals just hanging out barely ordering anything and taking up all the chairs and tables by the pool, no one was even in the pool. I would have thought the manager would of asked us what the problem was but I'm not even sure if it has a manager because we never seen him or her.Needless to say, we will never be back to the float, instead we will stay at the holiday inn who has their own pool bar down the road. read more

Pros: cool concept, strong and cheap drinks, outside showers to rinse off If you go on the weekend plan on it being crowded. If you're in your early 20s and looking to party this is the place for you. I went to the ladies room to change into my suit and a couple came in together, obviously looking to use a stall for some sexy time. Yeah it's that kind of place. Cons: safety hazards galore The pool water looked like it hadn't been cleaned in forever. I'm pretty sure I just sat in pee from 30 different drunk people. Bar tenders were throwing each other over the bar and into the water right on top of the bar stools. The entire area around the pool was wet and slippery. Not good when most of the clientele are drunk. Unless my friends really wanted to visit I would not go out of my way to visit this bar again. It's too bad; it would be nice if Galveston had a really good swim up bar. read more
