I've been a member for about five weeks now. I wanted to wait to write an informed review…read more Cost: It's comparable to Planet Fitness. About $27/monthly and $50 annual fee. App: Nothing useful (can't sign up for classes, as an example) except for scanning your membership card on arrival. Amenities: Three lane pool. Functional. Equipment: I've yet to use a cardio or weight machine that needs servicing or calibrating. I've not seen any that were out of order. They could use additional cable tv stations - there are about four total. They have a wide range of free weights, benches, and weight machines. Cleanliness: Here's where they fail. The women's bathroom (not locker room) is old an consistently dirty. I've seen grossness left for a couple of days before it was cleaned up. The gym floor is obviously not swept or vacuumed regularly, either. ALSO: The spray bottles of sanitizer are often missing, empty, or filled with water in lieu of actual sanitizing spray. The paper towels were empty for two consecutive days. Environment: Zero fans over the treadmills, but plenty over the weights area - this makes no sense. And there have been days where the gym itself has been fairly hot. I normally like to work out very early in the morning and then head to the office, but the women's locker room is is hot and HUMID - fine for a Saturday or Sunday, but I can't shower, dry my hair, and put on client-appropriate clothing and not be a giant sweaty mess afterwards. (I should note here that Planet Fitness did just fine in this aspect - they didn't skimp on the AC.) Classes: Don't bother with the spin classes. The bikes are bare-bones and old. I went to a yoga class (one of the few on the schedule) and I couldn't hear a thing over the AC and the basketball court (which shares a wall with the yoga studio). The instructor was nice enough, but didn't use any of the appropriate terminology for the poses and didn't make any form corrections during the class. So I was stuck craning my neck watching what she was doing so I could mimic her. It wasn't a bad class, overall, but you REALLY need to be able to hear an instructor during yoga - craning your neck while trying to achieve a pose is a good way to hurt yourself. She provided options for beginner, intermediate, and advanced students, which was great. I will try another class or two. The staff is overall friendly and responsive. Is it worth it? Sure - at this price point. Would I pay more for more amenities, etc. YES! The last major city I lived in I paid about $140/monthly, and that included towel service, a monthly locker fee, and a slew of classes including martial arts. I get that this place is an economy version of LA Fitness - if LAF were closer to my office, I would've opted to sign up there instead.

All I can say is "WOW"! I wish I would have known about Melon and Miracle Swimming a long time ago…read morebut the universe works on it's own time. I am going to be 66 very shortly and this was my birthday gift to myself. 60 of those years were spent taking lesson after lesson with no success. Nobody targeted my fear, I never felt SAFE! From start to finish, Melon stressed to listen to our bodies, go at our own pace. If you feel unsafe or nervous "come home to your body". She allowed us to move as fast or as slow as we wanted, we were in control. She encouraged play and lots of it. When we play, we are relaxed, discovering how our bodies move in the water and how the water will naturally bring you to the surface if you allow it. Also, she encouraged us to move slowly, don't rush anything. I played and played and played some more, slowly gaining confidence and comfort in the water. I released all inhibitions and felt like a little kid again. Melon said when you're in control, the skill will come naturally. Boy, was she right! I listened to everything she said, did everything she said, and if I wasn't comfortable doing a certain thing and felt out of my body, I took a step back, returning to my body until I was 100% comfortable and ready to move on. By day 2 I was treading in the shallow end, by day 5 I was in 12 ft. doing cannonballs and swimming, unassisted, un-tethered and felt a joy, satisfaction and pride I haven't felt in a long time. I always felt safe, comfortable and heard. I never felt pressured to do anything. I finally let go and fell in love with the water! If you are fearful of water, the deep end, not being able to touch the bottom or just want to feel 100% comfortable in the water, take this course!! There is no judgement as we are all there for the same reason. We want to be heard, seen, understood and to feel safe without the pressure of what is "expected". Come as you are and trust Melon. She will guide you to success!!!

Miracle Swimming offers great swim lessons for adults!…read more If you have had a hard time learning to swim for any reason and you're an adult, this is the swim class for you. Some of the students are very afraid of water and some not so much. The class size is small allowing for lots of time with the instructor and lots of practice time. The teachers are super experienced and very patient as well as super nice. The Berkeley pool is WARM! You won't freeze in there - perfect for beginning swimming. The Berkeley classes come with practice sessions for the 8 weeks following class, so you can practice in a nice, warm pool with other students. I have taken 3 of their courses, and I very much recommend them! I took the Beginning and Next Step classes in Berkeley with Richard (a great teacher!) and Ocean 101 in Sarasota, FL with Melon (founder of this school). Sarasota has the #1 beach in the US - look it up! Miracle Swimming has classes all over the country. IT'S TOTALLY GREAT! I had the best time and it was well worth the money to me. If you are at all interested, don't be shy about contacting Miracle Swimming with your questions or maybe buy their book first.

This gym set me up right from the start with a trainer to show me the equipment and run a diagnostic on me to show me my fat / water ratio and set a baseline for me. I decided that I liked Becky and set up several training sessions as I was just starting and felt I would need some assistance at the beginning. I did do 8 sessions and it's gone great. I will be on my own after two more, but I now have more confidence in what I can achieve and a better understanding of what I need to do. Equipment is great and they offer a good variety of machine style equipment and free weights. If you're just starting, I recommend going for a trainer if you can do it. It makes a big difference. Yes, the crowd is older, and there are some in rehabilitation, but I've yet to have a problem getting on equipment and everyone is polite and nice. I'm not surrounded by a ton of physically fit athletes, but I'm not intimidated and it's encouraged me. I had done a water aerobics class which was fun and you really get a workout. I plan on trying some others, but I know I can only do evening ones. Unfortunately, my work ours are such that the day classes are not for me. IF you really want to do classes, I'd review that part as it may not be for you. If you want to do some aerobic equipment and weight lifting equipment and get in and out of a gym and feel like the equipment is well made, I would say this is a great gym for you. The women's locker rooms are nice and clean. Showers are well built with privacy area. Hot tub is really nice and lap pool is gorgeous and big. I'm buying swim fins to try and do laps next. Lots of amenities which I like that a lot of other places don't have like the size of this pool.
