Stopped for a shake and had a fantastic black and white malt. Why 3 stars? Pricey malt for milk and ice cream (remember the $5 shake on Pulp Fiction) this was much more. Nicely stocked market. Tonight I stopped by Flo's Diner in Chalfant. I've visited on several previous occasions and it's always consistently good no matter what you order off the menu! This visit I enjoyed the 1/3 lb Hop Along Cassidy burger with garlic fries. The fries were good and "garlicy" (is that a word?), the burger was perfectly cooked! The BBQ sauce was tangy! On previous visits I've enjoyed some of Flo's other burgers, their BLT sandwich, combo pizza (not to be missed, probably the best in the Bishop area!), and my dad had the fish and chips and really enjoyed it! They also feature chicken, sandwiches, hot dogs, various dinner options, appetizers, soup, salads, and even homemade chili! There are also kiddie options for your little ones! Decor follows a 1950s era diner complete with an old fashioned juke box, TVs, comfy booths and chairs. Bathrooms are spotless and super clean! Outdoor seating is available where you can gaze at the majestic eastern Sierra across the valley. Flo's also features live music on Saturday's from 6:00 - 8:30 pm on the patio. If you're in the Bishop area take 10 minutes to drive over to Chalfant Valley on Highway 6 and stop by Flo's for a great meal and perhaps some live music entertainment! We were visiting Benton Hotsprings for the first time and when 4:00 rolled around I was feeling a bit hungry. It was our first time visiting the area and I didn't realize that there weren't many food options by the Inn. Other than a convenience store with limited options, the second closest place for food was actually Flo's Diner 20 minutes away. Not wanting to drive over an hour to another place to eat, we decided to give this place a try It didn't feel like we were settling or anything. We just didn't have very many options Thankfully the Diner delivered in several wags. I mean ways. More on that shortly There's minimal cell reception in the area but it's hard to miss this diner and it's 20 minutes from the Benton Inn Hot Springs. There's a mini gas station adjacent (with a significant markup but that's not too surprising given the scarcity of options in the area.) When we walked in, we were greeted warmly by someone (was she Flo the namesake? I forgot to catch her name but it's the blonde woman and she was so so kind and amazing!) We ordered fried cheese curds and two of their classic burgers- one of the burgers had a side of fries and the other burger had a side of a baked potato. I got a Diet Coke too. Total for 2 entrees, a side upgrade, a soft drink, appetizer and tip was about $60. We sat outside because we brought our furry friend with us. The waitress was so kind to her and even came out into the cold weather to check on us to see how we were doing Burgers were great. I wouldn't call them spectacular, but they're a pretty decent, solid burger. Order substitutions and customizations were acknowledged and carried out. Cheese curds were great! They reminded me of mozzarella sticks but bite sized There's a neat convenience store attached to the restaurant where you could pick up essentials or snacks to much on if you still have a bit of a drive. read more

Latin Market from mammoth took over recently. Still the super cute 50s style diner with Mexican food. My mom and I had a burger and a Cali burrito. The burrito was delicious and came with charred pepper and onion also rice and beans for 12$. The home made salsas were really good! My mom said the burger was tasty as well. The server was really kind and chatty. Allowed us to sit with our dogs on the patio and brought everything to us. Also very attentive if you have allergies to foods. We will be back!! read more

We needed something to eat while staying at Benton Hot springs and it was the only place available nearby, so we weren't expecting a whole lot from such a small place in the "middle of nowhere". This place is awesome. They have a little convenient store and a diner inside, and I think I might have seen a bar? The staff was extremely kind and hospitable in a situation I was in today. Our car broke down and they let us stay well beyond their closing time for us to use their WiFi and stay warm. We wanted to try something different, so I pulled up Yelp and came across Flo's, which I've seen a few times on Facebook. I saw that it was in Chalfant Valley... "Oh, that's just outside Bishop" I said, as I had only driven that route once before from Benton. After 20 minutes on a deserted highway we arrived at Flo's which had to be the only restaurant between Bishop and Benton. The little town was pretty cool though and the views of the mountains were incredible. It was definitely different. Service was friendly. There wasn't any cell service on Verizon so I couldn't look up recommendations, so we played it safe with the Flo's Classic burger which was great. It had both cheddar or American cheese, and a white cheese as well, and had some kind of Thousand Island variant, which was very good. My parents got the garlic fries and I got onion rings. The onion rings were large, crisp, and there were a lot of them. The chicken tender dinner looked interesting (tenders with mashed potatoes, a salad and something else). I also got a strawberry milkshake (you must at a diner) which was also really good. Clean restrooms too. I found it humorous that a '50s diner was only playing '80s music ;). There is a small store in the front with necessities and things like maps for people, and I think a gas station or a pump. Next time I am the mood for a good milkshake or sundae, or feel like getting off US-395, I'll be back! read more

We visited Flo's a few Sundays ago while vacationing in Bishop. Chalfant is a bit out of town with beautiful views of the mountains. The service was very friendly. There were tables outside (it was still warm) but we ate indoors. A fun 50s vibe with matching decorations added atmosphere. The spinach salad I ordered (with a chicken upgrade) was delicious, as was the huge burger my husband devoured. Free refills on the soda were appreciated. There's a small grocery store on the other side of the restaurant. Clean restrooms too. We were delighted to find this unique spot. Recommended! read more

This adorable 50's joint only opened two months ago. It is inside the old Chalfant Mercantile general store on Hwy. 6 in Chalfant, CA. I drove down from Mammoth to meet friends for lunch there, then to run errands in Bishop afterwards. The three of us enjoyed our experience in this great little place, had excellent and friendly service and delicious meals for decent prices. The place is spotless with clean restrooms. We were the only ones there for the first hour they were open (11:30) so that was a plus especially during this pandemic. On warmer days patrons can sit outside on their covered patio to dine. My Forrest Gump Shrimp Po Boy was mildly spicy and delicious and my chocolate shake nice and thick. My friends enjoyed the Chicken Fonz sandwich and homemade chili. It may be a bit of a drive to reach this location, but well worth it if you have the time. read more

Wonderful spot. We ordered the cheese burger it came with your choice of regular fries, garlic parmesan or onion rings. The garlic parmesan fries were delicious. The cheese burger was delicious too it came with two different types of cheese. We also had the fried mushrooms they were on point. Im visiting Bishop for a few days and I went to Flo's diner today with my dad. It's a little over 10 miles outside of Bishop, and nice drive. My dad got the Elvis sandwich which was a grilled peanut butter with bacon jam and banana sandwich and he said it was awesome! The fries were good, the fried pickles were fresh, ranch dressing was excellent and the plant-based burger there was really good as well. They're open for lunch and dinner, so my dad is planning to go back to try out their dinners. The place is immaculate clean, they have a great outdoor seating area and the inside is decked out in red and white like a 50s diner. Hallelujah! A new and great place for lunch or dinner! I went to lunch today and am pleased to post a 5 star rating. The decor is terrific- modeled after a 1960s burger place. The dining area is spotlessly clean, tasteful and fresh. Both indoor and outdoor seating are available. I asked for the roast beef melt w/ fries and my friend had a burger. My meal was delicious... the beef was cut into tiny cubes and was very tender. I expected a French roll as a vehicle to carry the meat, but instead it was on grilled grain bread. The cheese was hot and stringy. I had a cup of au jus to dip the sandwich in too. I'd highly recommend this meal. The staff, (owner, server, cashier) were very friendly and efficient. We were told, prior to being seated, that it would be a bit of a wait due to how busy the restaurant was, but it didn't seem long at all. I look forward to returning for a different meal. The Burgers are excellent. The Fries, The Fries are Hot, Salty and Crispy....All three things required for an outstanding French Fry. The fries are really, really good.
