We had high hopes for this restaurant. Except for the service, which was very good, we were extremely disappointed. Two apps and two entrees == none good. The probably tasty PEI oysters were drowned in a vinegary sauce. The diver scallops had a sauce that was way too sweet. The skin on the duck was flabby and fatty; the rice served with it was crunchy. The pickerel was bland with berry preserves for no apparent reason. On top of that, it's not inexpensive. read more

My family and I went to the Flour Mill Restaurant for the Christmas dinner fixed price special. However, we were extremely displeased with our visit. After ordering, we asked our waitress for water - although she never came with it, even as the appetizers arrived. We had to ask a different waiter for water. As appetizer, the Champagne Field Greens did not have any chestnuts, which were listed in the description on the menu. We informed our waitress who said she would ask the chefs why they were missing. She came back about ten minutes later to say that they had forgotten to add them, and gave us a plate with three chestnuts. In addition, the description said the salad would be served with champagne vinaigrette. It was not. It was just pure olive oil. We decided to let it go but the main was just as disappointing - a hard overcooked salmon. Moreover, the cannoli dessert was practically inedible - tasted like soap with candy cherries sloppily stuck on. The service was also very slow, although the restaurant was not even busy. For $40 a person for a family of four, I am extremely unsatisfied and will not be back. read more

I was not very impressed with the hotel or the general proactiveness of the staff ... other than the maintenance team that worked on the shower that wouldn't work, Daniel that checked me in, and this wonderful Indian lady that helped me get to the falls ....so the morning I wandered into the Flour Mill, I was in a fowl mood to begin with. The restaurant manager paired us with Semeron...our server. People, there are those that are just borderline acceptable in way of customer service....let me tell you...I've met many...but Simeron is the highest caliber of elegance, grace, customer service, and provides the utmost rapturous joy over every dish served. I kid you not, this woman and her impeccable style changed my entire day!!! The food was amazing and the flare, and grace with which it was served was superb....to top it off she was so humble...si I tipped her heavily...credit where credit is due. My wife found this place on the computer and we decided to give it a try solely on the fact that it used to be a mill and looked decorated in the style my wife loves. It's in a hotel that doesn't look like much from the outside, but once you come in, WOW. What a great spot. The Flour Mill restaurant itself, was, at one point, obviously a flour mill. It has high ceilings and stone work throughout. When we arrived, we were the only ones in the restaurant for the first hour and a half of our evening. It felt like the place was solely ours for those moment, and the wait staff certainly made us feel like we were special as well. We arrived as a family of four with two seven year old kids. The waiter was fantastic, taking care of us with drinks for the kids, making beer & wine recommendations, letting us taste different things, etc. We were seating right next to the fireplace and the restaurant was still decorated so nicely for Christmas. The cod appetizer was flaky and delicious. I ordered the chefs special, which was a pork tenderloin dish that was out of this world. The kids had their full complement of kid's menu items, which pleases my son, as all he eats are nuggets. My daughter on the other hand is constantly eating off the plate of my wife or I, and she managed to eat my wife's bleu cheese crusted nochi and my pork dish. She was very happy with what she ate, as were we. The nicest touch was that the chef came out to personally finish off the creme brulee dessert that my daughter orders, and he gave her quite the show. First off, the holiday decorations are lovely. It's as if a outdoorsman robbed a West Elm. But it is truly a luxurious experience walking into this restaurant. The staff were very welcoming and friendly. They were well aware of all menu items and specials and able to answer all our inquiries. My friend and I opted for the gnocchi and the chef's special, horse with mushroom ravioli. It was amazing. Richly flavored, expertly cooked and beautifully presented. The end of the evening found us sitting in front of a fire in the bar area, sipping beer and a Niagara Maple Manhattan. This is definitely a great place for special celebrations or holiday meals. Brunch was fabulous! Love the old mill charm! The room we sat in look newly remodeled and very comfy and bright. The server came off a little curt at first because we asked for the breakfast menu (GF due to celiac) and said everyone has to order off the same menu. It all worked out thanks to the kitchen being flexible. The server came around too and she lighten up and was very accommodating. Back to the food...we ordered the bacon tree which was a caramelized bacon tree which was oh so yummy! See pic! Even the table next to us took a pic of it. The coffee can in a press which my husband enjoyed almost every drop. The brunch was very delicious we got the omelette with cheese which was gooey, the chef skillet we bursting with flavors due to the mounds of potatoes , cheese, sausage, and two poached eggs which couldn't be finished because of such a large portion )you could share this dish), the berries clouds were sweet and the berries pop with sweetness, and the eggs Benedict were cooked perfectly. Ok... this is a great restaurant. Staff was fantastic, service was great! But that's not why you go out... it's the food! The food here is FANTASTIC!!! Was so delicious. Had a melt in your mouth Lamb Shank! The tenderloin was marvelous. Just awesome food sitting next to a beautiful fireplace. Discovered this place by chance and it is hands down the best place to eat at when in Niagara Falls! We had breakfast here and loved it so much we came back for dinner! Took the in-laws there for a nice meal on our first trip to Niagara Falls. The menu is not huge, but there is a nice variety of dishes to choose from. I started with a salad with candied walnuts, dried strawberries and an aged goat milk cheese that was delish. Mother in law had baked local cheese, but had to ask for extra bread to go with it. Husband and father in law had venison tartare. Lets just say that some meats are better for tartare than others. They also had the pickerel and it was excellent. Mother in law had cauliflower soup and an order of scallops. Both were very good. I had a scrumptious lamb chop. Honestly, my portion was a little small, I could easily have eaten two lamb chops, but it was prepared perfectly with roasted sun chokes and baby vegetables. The only reason I gave it 4 stars was because our server was a difficult to understand and there were a bunch of fruit flies that flew around our table the entire night. We were here July 3rd and we thought it was amazing! The restaurant is decorated very differently. There is wood and stone and then purple couches and some glam with fake animal heads on the walls! Their homemade bread was so wonderful, I took some home! The vegan risotto was amazing as well. The wait staff that night were very nice and made recommendations and didn't look at me funny when I asked to take the bread home! Loved the orange cheesecake as well!! In the top of the worst experiences I've ever had at a restaurant, especially one that charges what this place does for dry, hard-as-a-rock rabbit and leathery venison (which we sent back--terrible). The drinks took 30 minutes to arrive, then we were never asked if we wanted more and had empty water and drink glasses the rest of the evening until we finally went to the bar ourselves (and the wine we ordered to come with dinner didn't show up until 10 minutes after the mains arrived and we were basically done). The server mentioned there was a wedding happening as some kind of an excuse for the delays...but...the manager should staff appropriately for that. The server did his best(ish), and was apologetic and mentioned he had spoken to the manager about the issues, so I was disappointed that the manager never came over to check in or apologize, leaving the server to take the brunt. Bad service and bad food equals a bad manager. We had been looking forward to going there, and it was so disappointing and would not recommend nor ever return. They make their food fresh each time and you can totally tell by the taste of the food (everything was amazing!!).
