    Red chile glazed sweet potatoes.
    Felisita C.

Our first visit did not disappoint! We shared the Mother Earth bowl with no added protein and the red chile glazed sweet potatoes. Both were delicious. The potatoes had a perfect spice level, coming from someone who does not care for spicy food. The ingredients tasted fresh and clean. I also got the Earl Gray tea- it is delicious. Every employee we interacted with was helpful, pleasant, and gracious- lovely! There is ample seating, some more cozy spots, which I prefer. Really cute decor. Clean. Prompt removal of dishes. I can't wait to come back! Re: sharing these dishes, I don't exactly recommend this, the portions aren't huge. We are on day 38 of fasting and aren't eating much these days, so we were satisfied but not stuffed.

Salmon with Gluten-Free Mac & Cheese, kale salad and steak salad

Absolutely love this place. Food is always so fresh and delicious. Staff is incredibly nice and helpful with suggestions. I always order the salmon with the gluten free Mac and cheese, it never fails. The kale salad is probably my new favorite side I'm obsessed!! Lots of indoor and outdoor table, casual and quick place to grab some food.

    Classic Hummus

Having a poor experience at the Uptown location, I was a bit hesitant supporting Flower Child. It's not about the food, the food is always great (they even have green chile queso now), but moreso how the cashiers enforce boundaries, and behavior of the patrons and leadership. This trip was a refreshing change. At around 1pm on a Monday, the restaurant was near full, but there were no lines (likely because the lunch rush was seated and finishing). Everything arrived with a smile, and although the chips are simple yellow corn, the queso is nice (which I was not expecting). The hummus is always hummus (love that they offer the choice of veggies, pita, or both), and the miso vinaigrette salad is incredibly flavorful. I love spots that reduce the friction in clean eating, I'll definitely consider revisiting.

My first time trying out Flower Child. It's in a popular location near the woodlands mall. I placed a to go order for myself and my dad. I got the build your own bowl, which comes with an entree and 2 sides. I got chicken, gluten free mac & cheese and the roasted broccoli. It seemed a little overpriced for $15.45. The Mac & cheese and broccoli were honestly really good and I did thoroughly enjoy them both. The chicken felt like it was just the store bought strips that you heat and eat. There wasn't much seasoning or flavor to it, just bland chicken strips for the most part. I wouldn't mind trying the tofu next time in the bowl or even just getting 3 vegetarian sides, which is an option. The enchiladas were $15.75 and it was a good size portion. The inside has plenty of seating available and has a nice interior. I would come back and try something else on the menu. I know it's supposed to be a healthier place so I understand the higher pricing, but I think the taste should reflect the pricing.

As soon as we got to the restaurant the woman at the front taking the order of the Party in front of us was very irritated because they were indecisive then once it was our turn. It was very transactional. She did not look happy to be there. No smile . I ordered kombucha it was flat. As an entree I got steak with sweet potato fries and a side of fruit also a cup of chicken tortilla soup. Steak was flavorless the fruit was not fresh seemed like from a can. Fries were burnt on the edges. Chicken tortilla soup was mainly just broth. I felt like I was eating hospital cafeteria food.

Flower Child (FC) is a place that helps me eat better. Speaking from personal experience, this can be a challenging endeavor in Houston if you don't manage how your food is prepared. I was craving Tex Mex for a few days. Looked through the menu and ordered the Chicken Enchiladas and Glow Bowl. OK, your first reaction maybe - "Wait, you come to Flower Child in Texas and order their Chicken Enchiladas???" Well, yes. I am a fan of FC's Chicken Enchiladas and Mac n Cheese. Didn't order the mac n cheese as I made the dish last week inspired by FC and I was craving Tex Mex. The Chicken Enchiladas dish was delicious and resolved the enchiladas fix. The only drawback would be that it was a wee bit too salty. If they could tone down on the salt, this dish would be fab. The dish has a lot of flavor standalone but I use a bit of yellow bird's green or red hot sauce on an as needed basis. Glow bowl is a FC classic and gave a needed vegetable boost. The sauce was good. The ambience was relaxing and spacious. There was only 1 charging station. If your juice on the phone or laptop was running low, please do note that the location was by a door. The restrooms were great. Lighting and decor gave a good vibe.

I enjoyed my first visit to Flower Child. It was easy to place my order and my food came out quick and fresh. Everything was sooo good! Can't wait to visit again.

Super cute place, inside and especially the patio. You order at a counter, and get a number, the service was all really nice and professional. I took the two kids a nanny for. I got the avocado toast, which was nicely seasoned, and really tasty. My tiniest friend got the kid meal with steak mashed potatoes and gravy. It was definitely a portion for a child, and she asked for sweet potato fries, which I went back in to order. My other small friend got a chicken wrap, not realizing it only came with a side salad. I said let's see how you feel after your meal, as we could all share the sweet potato fries. Littles hogged the sauce (so good, it made me rethink one sweet potato fry was enough), and then my other little needed more to eat. He did eat it all, and it looked delicious. This is a great place to eat in the area. Just order everything all at once, I need to tell that to my little friends we need to go this. It was all delicious, pretty healthy (I think). They have nice attention to detail, pretty S&P shakers, cucumber water on the patio. Definitely a great place when we have nice weather.

Mother Earth bowl with salmon, Kale Salad
    Justin V.

Had an awesome dinner at Flower Child tonight. This place is a great option for a healthy meal with tons of protein and veggie options (perfect for vegetarians). I had tried the pick a protein plus two sides combination the first time I visited and didn't like it as much as the Mother Earth bowl I got tonight. While the two sides were delicious, I just found the protein to sides ratio was a bit off. Adding protein (the salmon as pictured) to the Mother Earth bowl tied everything quite nicely and made the plate feel more diverse but also complete! Not to mention it was super delicious! I ordered an additional salad fearing I would still be hungry after a plate of mainly grains and vegetables but it turned out to be unnecessary, the bowl itself was a great size. The inside of the restaurant is very spacious with additional outdoor seating available. Having been during both lunch and dinner, I say I prefer the vibe at night because of the softer lighting and quieter atmosphere.

Food is some of the best vegetarian around. The service however always touch and go. I waited with another person while the server at the front just kept talking to her friend. I finally asked if I could place my order. Halfway through my order she went back to talking. I had to ask if I could finish ordering so I could sit down. My friend would later come in and try to place his order and same. Several customers were sitting outside and all were frustrated just like us. I grabbed the manager as he walked by. He apologized and offered a dessert. Thanks for the pumpkin muffin, but really need improvement here.

Mother Earth is delicious! Loved the red pepper miso vinaigrette and the broccoli pesto!
    Karina N.

We got it to go so I'm not sure about service and atmosphere but I absolutely loved the Mother Earth bowl! Everything was so fresh and tasty! There was a miso red pepper sauce on the sweet potatoes that was awesome! I got extra avocado as my protein. I didn't even miss the meat. The portobello was super tasty. The entire bowl is worth it! I hadn't tried this spot before and now I'd like to come back or visit another location!

    Melissa P.

We came here after church because they offer vegetarian options. They have a great variety of food options and we loved what we ordered. I ordered the flying avocado wrap and the black bean falafel wrap. The restaurant had a cool vibe and the staff were friendly! We will be back!

There are 2 kiosks for ordering, but also a manned register. The food did take a while to come out but after the first bite I knew I made the right selection. It's sliced just right so that it's easy to chew, tasted like a steak, and it was indeed a healthy meal. I enjoyed everything about the sandwich, even got a few bites of some apples when eating the 2nd half of the sandwich which was a nice surprise/addition. Here, unlike another healthy fast casual place in town, I did like the available tea selection. I also ordered a cookie for dessert and it turned to be really tasty as well. Drinks and food arrived quickly and were fantastic - the drinks were on point, the food ample in quantity and flavorful in taste. The Fudgy Brownie was divine! Well-done! [EDIT only to correct to "Postino"]…read more I use the one-stars sparingly, I really do. This has nothing to do with the food, as we never got that far in the course of my miserable experience at this location (not sure if it's a chain or not). Walked into a relatively quiet restaurant somewhat later in the evening after strolling a bit in the summer Houston heat around the Woodlands. A couple of people recommended Postino. The issue arose when I asked for a possible menu modification. Specifically, I was trying to avoid GOAT CHEESE on the meatball dish I had my eyes on (which otherwise looked pretty tempting). The server indicated that they probably couldn't do it but I nevertheless requested this... a couple of minutes later the server returned with the bad news. Apparently, it simply had to be served as-is, according to the menu. This in itself wouldn't have got me to the point of writing this review. However, I, incredulous, was kind of laughing (you have to laugh) and said something like "so I can only order exactly what's on the menu, and the kitchen can't do anything different?" (slight paraphrasing, perhaps). There wasn't much further conversation with the server but within about 30 seconds of this exchange, a "manager" stormed over to the table and borderline-abusively shouted "is there a problem?!". This "mini-manager" as I will refer to her, proceeded to inform me that they could NOT accommodate changes because it would "violate the integrity of the restaurant" ... I of course I also found a bit humorous, and in this state inquired further about what sense it made to be so obnoxiously strict for someone just trying to grab a quick bite about 30 minutes before closing. I'm sensitive to the work involved in running restaurants and serving obnoxious customers, but I was NOT rude, obnoxious, or difficult. Just blown away by this treatment. I was then informed by the mini-manager that she was from LONDON which I assume meant I should accept that her cosmopolitan background and (I assume vast and high-level culinary experience) meant that I should shut my trap and stop being so picky. At this point I was compelled to mention that I, too, grew up overseas and was very surprised at this complete lack of flexibility. Within another 30 seconds or so of this dialogue, the mini-manager tipped the menu over on the table and abruptly shouted, "you know what, I'm refusing you service!" That made it all easy from there as we promptly (while laughing, partly out of shock) exited the facility. Huge disappointment and embarrassing in my view for a restaurant that seems otherwise to have maintained a great reputation - and especially so for the fact that service (and people in general) in Houston tend to be kind and accommodating, not typically RUDE or reactionary. I'm encouraging this restaurant to have a look at the service model. I can't say I'll try Postino again the next time I'm in Houston, but I certainly hope it continues to truly earn its 4.5 star rating, 'cause they sure did NOT when I was there this weekend.

1-Star Review: Absolute Disaster - Never Returning to True (False) Food Kitchen…read more We had one of the worst dining experiences imaginable at True Food Kitchen. We ordered our food, and it simply never came. After a long wait, our Brazilian waitress kept stringing us along with repeated false updates about how soon it would be ready. She left us hanging the entire time with zero accountability. What made it even more infuriating was the staffing situation. There were visibly more servers and kitchen staff than actual customers in the restaurant. Yet somehow, nothing was getting done. We watched plates of other customers' food sitting in the pass window for over 10 minutes while seven different servers casually walked right by, letting it sit there getting stale and old. Our server in particular seemed completely disinterested in doing her job--she had zero urgency or care for our table. The cavalier, neglectful attitude from the entire team felt like a systemic problem, not just one bad shift. It was as if the restaurant's "healthy, mindful" branding was just a front for pretentious, ill-mannered service that couldn't care less about actually delivering on basics like getting food to the table. We finally flagged down the manager, who at least gave us straight information: our order would still be another 10 minutes on top of the already excessive wait. At that point, we'd had enough and left without eating. This place is a nest of neglectful incompetence. Between the false promises, indifferent staff, and total disregard for customers, we will never patronize True Food Kitchen again. Save your time and money--go somewhere that actually values service.

The cookies finally came in a brown bag that was taped at the top, so I didn't rip it open to check my order. I mean, it was a simple order and they only have 1 type of cookie on the menu. When I got home I had one cookie that looked like a chocolate chip cookie and another cookie that didn't show any resemblance to a chocolate chip cookie. But I get that sometimes the chips are hidden inside. So I didn't think twice. Well, I can confirm that second was devoid of any chocolate chips. I took mini bites to see when I actually might encounter an actual chocolate chip. But I got nothing. I double checked my receipt and it says chocolate chip cookie and chocolate chip cookie, each @ $2.95. I double checked the menu thinking maybe they gave me another type of cookie but the menu only lists chocolate chip for cookies. So how on earth does a chocolate chip cookie have zero chocolate chips? I think that takes some serious skill to make one without a single chip in it. And I actually might not complain if it was still an awesome cookie nonetheless, but it was a far cry from that. It was a tasteless soft lump of dough. And clocking in at $3 that's just not right. Does this establishment have no quality control to prevent something like this happening? I don't think I've ever experienced something like this at a place charging this much for a cookie. And even commercial establishments like Walmart do a better job. I don't know what "true" means in their name, but for me it only meant only one thing: true disappointment.
