Stopped by here with my 10-year-old son for some hot cocoa/coffee on a cold, rainy day. The staff was super friendly and the prices about what you would expect from a place like this. They had huge cupcakes and some great looking donuts, but my son chose a vegan chocolate chip cookie, which was absolutely delicious! They seem to support local farmers/products, so A+ on that front! My latte was very good and my son would not stop raving about his hot cocoa, which he said was buried under a yummy thick amount of whipped cream. Can't wait to go back and try some more of their delicious and low-dairy bakery options. And probably one of those HUGE cupcakes too! read more

The environment is very calm and inviting. They have a great selection of salads sandwiches and sweet treats. I got the "mutha clucka" which was pretty good. The portion was large and filling. Once when I was in the store, I overheard what appeared to be the owner yelling at some of the employees for talking too loud. This wasn't the first time that I had seen or heard the owner bringing negative energy into the store. As a person that has worked for terrible bosses before, I understand how that can really affect a persons personal life after they leave the work place, and I have a hard time supporting an establishment that treats employees with so much disrespect. I've had nearly everything on the menu. The food is good, but the Thai food isn't very authentic. They also market themselves as an establishment to get wholesome, local food, when this is not entirely true, especially when it comes to the meat. They market themselves as having local meat, when in reality they have Boars Head, which is a huge cop-out. I consider it ingenious, deceiving, and bad business practice to exploit the "local" label in order to manipulate the food conscious community of Athens into believing they are consuming humane meat products when they are not. Boars Head does not treat their animals humanely, and while they are based in Ohio, they are not the kind of farm practice that locavores generally approve of. Like I said, the food is good, but if you care at all about the aforementioned issues, then i do not recommended supporting this establishment. read more

It's on the pricey side for Athens (read: average for most other places) but the food is really fresh, varied and consistent. I like to come here for breakfast, when they have a slew of savory offerings to match their excellent baked treats. At lunch, they have some very nice choices that can be complemented by local beer, which is a nice surprise at a bakery. read more

I've been hesitant to post a negative review of a new, local business, but now that somebody else has, I'm going to say what I've been thinking for a while. I am an avid baker, and I have not had anything at Fluff that I couldn't have made at home a lot better at one-tenth of the cost. Everything I've tried, from the cupcakes to the bread, seems overly hard, and I haven't been able to figure out if it's because they're selling old goods, as the other reviewer seems to think, or if it's because they're using the wrong kinds of flour. I suspect it's the latter, but at either rate, save your money. Fluff is selling lackluster goods at a premium price. read more

You get what you pay for, and in Fluff/Rickshaw Thai's case that means you'll pay higher prices than many places in Athens, but everything is delicious. We came in after going to the website ( I would encourage you to it is great.) The place is small but cozy enough. Great staff , great decor, and then there is the food. I went biscuits and gravy. Biscuits are done perfectly just toasted enough to add a little crunch and stand up to the gravy but not so much so that the gravy didn't soak in. There were two choices of gravy the curried mushroom and the chorizo. My advice is to try both and not sell either short. Whenever I am back this way I will be back. I would have included a picture but I was half way done with my food before that idea occurred to me. read more

I wish I went to Fluff more, since I'm about to graduate in 2 weeks. But what an awesome place to order some local, organic, homemade food! I've had a lot of their meals and desserts, but I think my favorites are the Cheeseball sandwich and the quinoa roasted veggie salad. The Cheeseball sandwich is on delicious focaccia bread with herbs, and the peppercorn mayo is spicy, but adds great flavor to the sandwich. The quinoa and roasted veggie salad has so many fresh ingredients, including some of the best cheese I've ever eaten! Also, the balsamic vinaigrette I got with it was delicious, and it had lots of tang without being too overpowering. If you're looking for something special for lunch, this is a great place to stop in Athens! read more

We were in Athens over Labor Day weekend to visit the Dairy Barn. While walking around downtown, we noticed Fluff's menu and decided we had to try a couple of things for breakfast the next day: the breakfast bagel with hummus, and the cured salmon with roasted sweet potatoes. As others have noted, the place is brightly painted, and though a little narrow with the tables across from the service bar it was overall inviting inside. There is also some outdoor seating. The staffer who took our order was very helpful, as was the cook/server who delivered the food. Being a bakery, I am guessing they make a lot of their baked goods, if not all of them. The bagels were not chewy, NY style; they were much softer, like bread. My plain bagel seemed more croissant-like than bagel-like, which I wasn't expecting. The sandwich itself, though, was delicious - egg, cheddar cheese, roasted red pepper hummus - a vegetarian delight. We were disappointed that the salmon platter did not come with sweet potatoes (the menu does say tomatoes in season, but we erroneously thought it would come with both). The overall platter, though, had a lot of food and seemed worth the cost. I also had a small cookie sandwich - two choc chip mini cookies sandwiched with white buttercream. Sadly, I was more impressed with the idea than the execution; it struck us both as a mouthful of sugar without a lot of flavor (this was true for the cookies and the buttercream). I will note that the overall bakery selection contained a number of vegan and/or gluten free options, which was really nice to observe. A bakery that morphs into a Thai restaurant in the evening, that serves decent food, and appears to have some craft beer on tap - what more could you ask for in a college town? read more

I wasn't much of a coffee drinker until my brother Lou suggested that we explore The Fluff Bakery. Boy, was I in a treat at Fluff's. Several different types of baked items, such as cookies, cupcakes, croissants, and cannoli, and each was as beautiful as it was delicious. The staff were very friendly and willing to accommodate special requests, such as heating up the baked goods or selecting nice, big coffee mugs for the wonderful Silverbridge Coffee. My bro and I just love the Jamaican Me Crazy coffee, a smooth, delightful coffee flavored with caramel hazelnut and kahlua. We love being able serve ourselves coffee with the carafes, adding milk and sweeteners just the way we like them, and there are free refills! We enjoy choosing a nice seat near a large storefront window where can watch people walking up and down Court St. Some other reviews complained that Fluff is pricy, but I feel what we pay reflects the high quality of food and coffee at Fluff's. If you are on a budget, try the day old pastry specials and ask the employees to warm it up for you. Either way, Fluff's Bakery is a memorable treat! read more

Fluff is a great place to meet friends or have a quick lunch. My absolute favorite thing is their breakfast sandwich on the cheesy biscuit with eggs, pesto, & cheese (you won't need to eat for the rest of the day!), although I also love their bagels with specialty cream cheese. My husband loves the bacon pretzel wonderland but all of their sandwiches are delicious. It would be nice if they were served with a side of chips or something, but it's still good. They also make a pretty good cappuccino. The only thing that keeps me from coming more often is their lack of wi-fi, although it's likely intentional, as their space is not so large. Fluff is one of my favorite places to eat dessert in Athens. The only reason I give them 4 stars is because their savories are not quite as good as their sweets. When I walk in, the staff is so great-- friendly, inviting, accommodating. I've never had a bad experience with these guys. I love the comfortable atmosphere-- very chill. The only thing I'd change is the ordering area. It butts right up against dining space, and is pretty uncomfortable. Otherwise, there's quiet, more private seating in the back, or busy, loud seating in the front, with or without window watching. My favorites of the savories are breakfast. I'm always happy with one of their breakfast sandwiches on a homemade bagel with egg, cheese & cilantro pesto. They make all of their pestos, cream cheeses, hummuses, sauces, etc. in house. I've also enjoyed the biscuits with gravy (both pork & mushroom were great). Not a fan of lunch-- sandwhiches tend to be too bready, rice bowls would be better if the veggies were steamed for just a couple minutes more. We recently tried their dinner service. I enjoyed the flavors on my salad, though the smoked pork was tough as leather. My husband had the burger on na'an and didn't care for it. We both enjoyed the fish cakes, though they were a bit "watery". Baked goods and coffee drinks are where it's at for these guys. INCREDIBLE. My favorites include ALL of the cookies and cookie sammies, any of their specials (love the almond bars and slice day), and their brownies are pretty damn good. All of their coffee beverages are amazing-- BEST coffee in Athens, I will go no where else! If anything, come for a latte and a sugar cookie. Worth it! read more

What is it with these restaurant owners? Prices are high here and at Rickshaw Thai. Yes you are local and yes we should support you, but over charging because you are local, in a town where many people don't have a lot of money, is just plain wrong. Fluff has a great sandwich...probably the best in Athens. But you will pay $10 for it by the time you get out the door. Which brings me to my next point. Tipping... I don't mind tipping when I go to a full service restaurant, but to ask me to tip 20% to take my order and call my name 20 minutes later to come get my sandwich is ridiculous. The other day I went in to buy a loaf of bread and they wanted me to tip them 20%. Seriously? As far as the baked goods-- I'm not a fan. It goes without saying that they are WAY overpriced, but they also might want to consider using local butter instead of corporate crisco. Most of their baked goods are covered in a sickly sweet vegetable shortening frosting. If you like it, mix some crisco with some powdered sugar and you can have fluff frosting to your heart's content without the high price. Kudos to the sandwich though! Seriously they are really pretty good. Unfortunately this business owner's practices upset me enough that I seldom go in--even for a delicious sandwich. Buying local should not equate to getting ripped off. BTW they have a huge nasty fly problem in the summer which makes eating there an even more unpleasant experience. My husband and I stopped in here for an afternoon snack while visiting Athens last week. We were aghast at the price for a single cupcake ($4.25? really?), which was more than we'd paid for a cupcake anywhere, including NYC and Paris. We like supporting local businesses, tho, and we were on vacation, so we purchased a chocolate cupcake with chocolate frosting. I'm sorry to say that it was one of the worst cupcakes I've ever had. It was very dense, and cold, and dry, and not at all flavorful. The frosting was also dense and thick, but not in a nice, fudgy way. It was just gross. We didn't even finish it. I'll throw in a single star because they carry Jeni's ice cream. I regularly pay $12/pint for Jeni's, so I'm used to paying for quality ice cream, but the Jeni's terrine slice we had was incredibly tiny for what it cost. Very disappointed. read more

Everything looked so tasty...especially when you're hungry. We ordered a cheesecake round, peanut butter cookie and s fruit bar-strawberry. It was fairly inexpensive so I can't complain. The only thing I could have done differently is that the fruit bar was a bit more sweet than I would have liked, but I did enjoy the oats. Yum! read more
