This is my absolute favorite donut shop in the entire world as I know it. I'm writing this review way too late, I have since graduated UC Davis and moved to Sacramento then San Francisco bay area. I have yet to find a shop as delicious and incredible as Fluffy Donuts... the owner is the most kind-hearted man alive, always remembers your face (to this day- almost six years now, he still remembers me by name and my now-fiance, then-girlfriend as well, and inquires about her and how we are doing, this is beyond customer service, this is familial friendship and takes the whole relationship to a whole new level!). I must say it again- to this date, I have yet to find a place with incredible donuts as Fluffy's, there just doesn't exist a shop that has the "oomph" and "OH MY GOODNESS THIS IS WHAT A DONUT SHOULD TASTE LIKE" along with the added friendliness of the shop owner, incredibly reasonable prices that is like financial assistance to students. I always get the Apple Fritters and their old fashioned donuts with maple, the owner knows me and always reaches out for those two immediately whenever I stop by. This place deserves more than 5-stars on Yelp, I swear. I get tears just thinking of the good times I had here, picking up donuts for myself, for friends and for work as well. Back in the day when I was a wee child and my parents did not approve of junk food, including donuts, my grandma would come pick me up in her boat of a Lincoln and we would drive around the corner to Fluffy's. As my grandma would tell me to keep it a secret from my parents, I would eat my donut and really understand that these donuts are the best kept secret in the world. Fluffy is the only reason for the entire U-mall to exist. So many amazing donuts to behold! It also appears to be a popular hang out spot for many very cool old folk (what donut place isn't?) as well as a healthy mix of frat row bros and lost freshman. Like an old friend, Fluffy has never let me down. The owner is the archetype of a great local business owner, enthusiastically greeting everyone that comes in and is way too excited to help you pick out donuts. And although no one will agree with me on this, Fluffy has the BEST COFFEE EV0R. Once, when the coffee pot ran out, the owner made a brand new pot... just for me. I held in my tears until I got to the parking lot. Plus, the store is sometimes run by his (I'm guessing about...) 12 year old son who is equally friendly. Not many would consider Fluffy a place to experience an awesome collection of artwork featuring native americans, but I would disagree. This is what makes Fluffy a triple threat. I been here four times and they been "Sold Out. Closed Early" for three of the four times I went. I went in on a Monday at 9 am, 11 am on a Saturday and 12 on a Sunday. Their business sign says they close at 5 pm so why not make more donuts until closing or pre-make more. I'd rather go to Pink Dozen near Nugget b/c their donuts taste better, a bit cheaper and has been opened every time I went. My favorite place right now! Super friendly owner and he can make Vietnamese coffee upon request!!! 'Blueberry cream cheese croissant' but not exactly a croissant in my eyes, but it tastes just as good! I love everything cream cheese... Cheat day, everyday! :D Vietnamese coffee is pretty much a coffee that uses condensed milk instead of creamer etc. Although I usually do prefer much more condensed milk in my coffee, I give it a thumbs up. Don't opt for Vietnamese coffee if you don't like that milk feeling on your tongue. Nonetheless, it was exactly what I need for an exhausting day! Also, it's great that it opens at 5:30AM everyday! 5:30 AM is that magical time when after yet another desperate, panicked all-nighter, I realize that Fluffy Donuts is open. Few things in life can get me out of bed in the morning. Two alarms, if I'm lucky. These donuts, though. I would haul my sluggish ass out of the comfiest bed in the world for these things. Objectively, they are not anything spectacular or unique. They're just donuts. But they're always delicious and as light as the name Fluffy Donuts would suggest. My embarrassingly generous standard order is a maple old fashioned, sprinkle cake donut, and a half dozen donut holes. The donut holes are like eating a cloud for real. If you can I recommend going at 5:30. The donuts are fresh out of the oven and warm, and you get to feel all accomplished consuming all of your daily calories before the sun even comes up. Yesterday I went to Fluffy for a donut and coffee to satisfy a deeply-ingrained craving that I've been having for the last 3 weeks. It sure hit the spot. I had an old-fashioned glazed and a cup of coffee for $2.20, and the price was definitely right. The donut tasted fresh, and had a soft texture, and the coffee was good as well. I was suprised to see the place so crowded! Seems like the place to be in the area around 10am on a Saturday. All the tables were taken, but I had to take my order to-go anyways. But since it was so crowded, they didn't have a full selection of donuts available to choose from (which didn't matter, because I was going to choose the old-fashioned anyways, which there were plenty of left). So I went again this morning. Haha. I swear it was to do further "research" before I felt I could write a Yelp Review. And so this morning I came back and was suprised that I was the only one their, with a full selection of glorious donuts in front of me. I got another cup of coffee and a map-glazed donut stick or whatever they are called, and it was once again, very good. And very filling too. It was just good timing on my part, because 2 minutes later, a swarm of people came in, ready to devour their share of fried dough in the morning. These were my boss's way of bribing us to get that field work done over Davis summers. Every so often, there'd be a box of them in the office. Big fan of their plain and simple glazed donuts. They're true to the name- fluffy and fat donuts, bigger and even slightly better than krispy Kreme donuts. My other favorite is the sugar coated donut. Stopped into Fluffy Donut with my roommate to satisfy a craving. We decided to go halvsies on a dozen after the man behind the counter told us they were out of donut holes. So we asked for a dozen and rather than waiting on us to choose donuts, the man instead started putting random donuts into the box. Thankfully, my roommate stopped him and asked if she could choose which donuts to put in. He said yes, but didn't bother to remove the ones he'd picked for us. Also, the entire time my roommate was choosing, he kept interrupting her to suggest different kinds. At one point he even said he was "just trying to speed the process." All in all, we ended up getting to choose about 7 or 8 of the donuts and the remaining ones were random picks of his. After boxing our donuts, he gave us our total and my roommate got out her card to pay. He asked if we had cash, and sadly we didn't. Thankfully he let us pay with a card, though! Overall, I was pleased with the donuts themselves but not impressed by the service. I understand that the shop was busy, but I didn't really appreciate being rushed, because I am also a paying customer! So I'd say, yes, go for a donut if you're craving one! I can't believe it took me a year and a half to try out this place. It's so conveniently located by UMall but I just always forget about it since it's around the corner. I ordered a BBQ Pork sandwich, Vietnamese coffee, and a sprinkled donut in the morning. Sandwich was alright - probably will try something different next time though, because I didn't like the pork very much. I'm not a frequent coffee drinker so I don't have the palate to say what's good or not, but I enjoyed the Vietnamese coffee here a lot! Would definitely recommend it! And the sprinkled donut was just a sprinkled donut, no surprises there, and it was a pretty good donut. The total cost was just around $8.50! I was honestly expecting it to be more expensive for everything I got, so that was a pleasant surprise. The place isn't too crowded in the morning compared to Starbucks. I like this place! Definitely does look like your average donut place with the cheap benches, but the donuts are good. They also have a wide variety of sandwiches, chips, drinks etc. The place itself is always very quiet, with few to none sitting down to eat. I tend to be the only one that sits in here to relax and eat when I come. But that isn't to say that there are people walking in and out to buy donuts, coffee and such. It sucks coming from San Jose because my standards for any ethnic food is probably way too high. It was godd don't get me wrong but first off, they don't really have a menu you can order off of for their banh mi, and second of all the owner (I assume) said "Asian sandwich" and started making it for me.. When I was a freshman, quite a looong time ago, I use to walk over to the place & find that there were barely any donuts. I was always disappointed. But I took a chance on this place a second time when I had to work earlier & only had a few choices of quick breakfast meals. I kind of regret not coming in here more often since I'm in South Davis, which saddens me because I've enjoyed my stay here many times before. The reason why this place is so good is because the Asian guy behind the counter is a legend here in Davis. He's been running the business as long as I can remember. Being a legend that he is, he knows what goes around and comes around when it comes to customer service. He never disappoints when satisfying his customers, as well as his doughnuts & pastries. I have never experienced anything bad about this place. It's homey, warm, and has a vintage look to the restaurant. The doughnuts come soft, FLUFFY, and extremely addicting. And the best part about it is that it's cheap, which makes me a happy camper. His Vietnamese sandwiches are also a must to pick-up when you're craving lunch. In my opinion, it's more heartier than Sunrise's. Also, I don't know why you would go to Starbucks to get your coffee fix when you can get Vietnamese coffee for cheap at Fluffy's. It has more flavor and kicks in much faster than American blends. Come by to Fluffy Donuts when you have the chance. I walked into this restaurant this afternoon and I noticed this place was extremely empty. There was a total of 4 people in the store - the owner, my friend and I, and another customer. This place wasn't too clean and it looked a bit rundown. There walls didn't look white and there were pictures that obviously haven't been updated in a while. Hell, they even have a gumball machine. Not sure if it;s safe to chew on... Let's move on to the food. I ordered a turkey sandwich, Thai tea, and 12 mini donut holes. In total it cost me about 7 bucks and for that price, it was pretty decent. We received half off the donuts because they were made yesterday and weren't fresh. +1 Star for honesty. Although the sandwich was little thin though, it tasted fresh and it was delicious. The sandwich consisted of two slices of meat, a layer of veggies, and a slice of cheese. The Thai tea was pretty damn good and it was made just how i like it. Sweet and it had that distinctive tea flavor. The donuts were pretty good, even if it weren't fresh. two words: VEGAN donuts! the purple yam donut is yummy and beautiful in color (i grow purple Japanese yams in my garden too!). and i bought "regular" donuts for my family. they are all light, tender, not too sweet and very fresh, these donuts are delicious and orders of magnitude above any mass-produced, commercial donuts sold in supermarkets or chain stores. i wish i'd thought to take a photo, but we ate them as soon as i brought them home. not surprised to see the responsibly socially distanced and masked line extended out the door on Saturday morning.
