Rudest behavior by staff I've seen in my life. I ordered a double espresso on ice (which they charged $5.00 for!) and it was served in a small glass with no room. I like to add some milk to this drink, and Starbucks and all the other coffee shops I usually go to have the milk / cream etc. on the counter for you to add how much you like. I asked for a bigger glass, and was given a different one that seemingly didn't have any more room in it. I grabbed a to-go cup that was sitting there, asked for the milk, pour some milk in it, and sat down to enjoy my overpriced coffee beverage. Imagine my surprise when the staff started harassing me at 7:30 in the morning about "stealing" their milk! Not in a funny or cool way! Really cute cafe next to Cleveland Clinic. I didn't order much besides a tea, but overall, the cafe offers a very quiet and charming atmosphere to either study or meet with a friend. I was a little underwhelmed with the customer service - the server seemed a little cold. Not only that, but the pastry case was already empty by the time I arrived. (To be fair, though, my friend and I had entered the cafe an hour before they closed.) On the bright side, I liked how transparent the ovens and baking trays were. It gave the impression that all the baked goods were freshly made, and customers didn't have to worry about purchasing old pastry items. Always quiet for when I want to study. The sandwiches may be on the pricier side, but I really enjoyed my turkey sandwich. Their pastries always look so delicious, but I haven't tried any except for the croissant. I've been a fan of Fluffy Duck, ever since it opened. The breads, the pastries, the sandwiches, the coffee- it's all good. Like REALLY good. The bakery is limited though, on the supply. They have limited amounts of pastries and bread, so, once they're out for the day, they're really out. In terms of bread- I've tried all their breads, with the rustic oat bread being my absolutely favorite. The way they make their breads- it's soft in the inside, slightly crunchy on the outside, with a nice consistency of chewiness. They know how to make bread and they know how to make it well. In terms of sandwiches- my favorite has to be the rustic turkey, as they use fresh ingredients for their sandwiches on fresh bread.... Their pastries are so good. The kouign amann is always a winner and their croissants are out of this world. So buttery and so soft. The cookies are baked to perfection- I don't even usually like oatmeal cookies, but theirs is so good. They do make one mean chocolate chip cookie though.... which is practically a meal in itself. And finally, they serve great coffee- in fact, it's MadCap coffee from Grand Rapids. That was a plus for me, for sure. Sunny spot with delicious treats. Unfortunately, I was shockingly asked to leave by the owner because I wasn't spending enough money. For the past couple of years, I'd pop in once or twice per month to have tea and work for a few hours during their off hours. Occasionally I'd get a muffin or loaf of sourdough bread and bring other people there to meet. Always tipped generously regardless of what was ordered. Went to this cafe prior to work on 8/19/21 and the man working the register was quite rude. I only wanted coffee because they were out of blueberry danishes. He said anything to eat when I just ordered coffee and I said no and he replied that's what we do here, is we have food. Whereas when the man behind me just ordered coffee he said nothing. Unfortunately, I have to give a bad review. Food safety is extremely important. I rave about this place left and right because the pastries are typically flawless. I went in a few weeks ago after lunch with several other dietitian colleagues, we are all ServSafe certified, not that you need to be in order to recognize poor food safety when you blatantly see it! If you are looking for fresh made every day pastries this is your place. They also have a very good cappuccino. There in a great location if you have a doctors appointment at the main campus Cleveland Clinic they've only been here about two years so I feel like not a lot of people know they're here. This is the first time I've been here. The employees are friendly and helpful with a lot of information. Everything is made in house fresh daily. They have gender neutral bathrooms. read more

DO NOT FREQUENT THIS PLACE. Totally awful. I have been to Fluffy Duck a number of times over the years, always happy to support locally owned businesses. I've picked up lunch or sometimes a round of coffee for my colleagues. I have hosted three work meetings here in the past two weeks, as my office recently moved easily within walking distance. Two weeks ago, I took a colleague for coffee and a sandwich, the jerk behind the desk chided us for ordering coffee because they "do pastries here". (This, despite my having ordered a sandwich...). We were no doubt surprised by the tone (and the strange communication), but I laughed it off. This morning, I came in to order a cappuccino to go. The same jerk from before asked, "Would you like ay food?" I said, "No, thank you. Just the coffee." He responded, "Well, this is what we do here," as he rang up my order for coffee. I responded, "So, you don't want my money?" He shrugged and said, "I'm just trying to tell you what we do here." I said, "Forget it." He shrugged again, and I left. No apology. No attempt at conciliation. AWFUL customer service. Not only did they lose a single customer, but they've lost my entire office and the food and coffee we would have purchased for the number of partners we host for meetings. Gorgeous little cafe. I found the bright interior of Fluffy Duck to be very soothing and the smells coming from the bakery were mouth watering. I recently stopped in on my way to the Cleveland Clinic across the street, FYI there is additional parking in the back of the building. Their cafe latte was fantastic, they use local whole milk and you can really taste the difference in the quality of beans. You couldn't go wrong with any of the huge selection of fresh pastries but I specifically recommend the croissant, lemon blueberry scone and if they have them the kouign amann which was fantastic! Make sure to stop in to grab a cup and don't forget something sweet to pair it with, you won't regret it! read more

Came here for the first time today to try it with my roommates, and we were very openly excited. The girl at the counter taking our orders gave us a dirty look while we were taking pictures of the display and fawning over the pastries, even though we were the only ones in line. So service is just okay... I got a ham and cheese croissant, and while the cheese was well-distributed throughout the interior, the ham was just a thick blob in the middle. The pastry itself was good, but I was disappointed by the ham blob. Their in-house chai is flavorful and light, on par with Algebra teahouse's chai. I ordered a kouign amann as well, which was sizable and tasty, but a little dry on the edges. The center part is delectable and perfectly balances salty and sweet. My hopes were high based on the other reviews, and the fact I was visiting mid-weekday. But they were cleaned out of pastry, and the shop itself, although lit with full sunshine, was really messy. Crumbs everywhere. I ordered an iced latte, and was disappointed to find they were making it with a pitcher of premade iced coffee (could've been toddy, but unsure), and it was very overpriced for the size and quality. Sat in to work on my laptop, and that was when it was really noticeable how hot it was in the store. Now, granted, I could clearly see they do a lot of baking, (and people must love their goods, because they were sold out), but it was uncomfortable to see the staff members sweating, and odd because there was no apparent strenuous project happening at the time. The parking situation is not ideal either, it's a pay station where you enter your plate number and select time. All in all, I really hope I just picked a bad day, but I don't know that it's worth my time and $ to try a repeat visit. read more

Mmmm fresh baked bread. Fluffy Duck might become my go-to coffee shop. Clean, modern interior feels very open and spacious with lots of natural sunlight from the clear windows. Very relaxing ambiance. The pour over coffee is great and as good as Rising Star or Pour with a better price point ($4.50 for a cup). What knocked this place out the park was the food. They have a more extensive menu than you expect at a coffee shop with different sandwiches, pizzas and salads. I ordered the turkey sandwich and it was delicious. The rye bread, which they bake in-house, was the perfect texture of chewy/crispy and had a distinct wheat flavor you don't get from store bread. Wonderfully constructed supporting ingredients with fresh tomato, lettuce and juicy turkey slices. I will be back here soon! Can't wait to try a pizza here. read more

I loved it here!! My family and I were staying nearby and wanted to find a cafe for a coffee and a bite to eat in the morning. I found Fluffy Duck on Google and decided to give it a shot. Everything here was homemade and you can watch the food being made in their big open kitchen. The pastries were absolutely delish, especially the croissants. We also tried their egg and cheese sandwiches which were equally perfect. Even their chai lattes are from scratch. When we stopped in we saw huge mounds of cookie dough and asked when they would be baked - they told us about an hour and we asked if we could pay for two in advance and pick them up later because they looked too delicious to pass up. They agreed and we picked up the cookies later in the day. No surprise - they were amazing!! It's clear that everything in this cafe is made with love and it's truly a pleasure to see. This place is a find in Cleveland. It's difficult to find croissants that replicate the ones you find in France with the crispy outer layer and soft buttery inside. These fit the bill. The coffee and chai are quite good as well. The Kouign Amann is different from others I've had (i.e. not typical) but still delicious with a caramelized crust on top. The space is airy and gets quite a bit of light. Just be sure to order your pastries first before ordering the coffee per the staff's request. Will definitely go back again. read more

While the pizza was actually more like a cheese pizza, it was pretty good. The crust was nice and chewy and the sauce was flavorful, with great basil seasoning. Went with my roommates for the first time today and was very excited to try out this new cafe right across from the Cleveland Clinic where we work. Customer Service: Albeit, we were very cheerful walking in, chatting with each other about what to get and pointing at the food. No one else was behind us, so it wasn't like we were holding up a line. Maybe the cashier was having a bad day, but her face was piqued and she clearly wasn't too enthralled of our excited. Food: I had a savory scone with cheese caramelized onions and a local honey latte. The scone was just what I needed to start my day--very tasty and filling, and surprising moist. The latte was delicious and full of flavor--a beautiful balance of espresso, milk, and sweetness from the honey. Atmosphere: Very clean and bright, great for studying and getting some work done. It was fun to watch the chefs prepare the pastries as we ordered. Seats about 25 customers. Overall, food was great and customer service could be improved. The Fluffy Duck Cafe pastries look delicious, but do not let the "Cafe" part of the name fool you nor the Siri recommendation for Fluffy Duck Cafe as a coffee place. My father and I came here for some coffee and ultimately ordered plain, black coffee. The coffee selection is ridiculously minimal. Furthermore, do not let the row of hanging mugs fool you, either. If you order solely coffee, you are not allowed to stay in the building. Coffee is only "to-go" style. They will make you leave unless you order some of their food. This is not due to being busy nor having too many customers. The building was empty except for an elderly couple (who notably was not eating or drinking anything), and several chairs and tables were unoccupied. Yet, my father and I were still told to go, simply because we ordered coffee---coffee of which was more expensive than a Panera latte, despite being plain, black coffee. This was not due to Covid regulations. Nobody in the cafe was wearing a mask. The cashier was incredibly unsettling. He seemed as though he did not want to be there and acted likewise. He occasionally made eye contact but almost immediately diverted his eyes to another location. My father attempted to cordially converse with the cashier, but the man would dodge many of my father's statements, as if he was incapable of small-talk or friendly conversation. This place may have delicious pastries, but the cashier was rude and unsettling, and this is not the place to go for coffee concerning both the small coffee menu and the "to-go" rule. I'm updating my review because while I've now been several times and actually really like their food and coffee, I (and pretty much everyone I know) have completely stopped coming here because of the service. If you stop in to grab a coffee on the way to work, you'll be met with a glare and asked why you aren't ordering food since they are a food place. This has happened to me multiple times and to many other people I know who have tried to just get a coffee from here. With the proximity this place has to the hospitals and schools I am surprised they aren't more okay with people making them their regular coffee shop. Even if you do order food, they still act like you are imposing on them by coming to their business. I have been on the cuisine adventure every day in Cleveland (it's what I do). Day 6 here I find the bakery of bakeries. Fluffy Duck gets 1st Prize. Wow! It's small and simple and centrally located. We ordered the ham&cheese croissant, the blackberry&lemon danish, and what people rave about the most:Kouign Amann. One of the best things I have ever put in my mouth! Perfect combination of layered flaky pastry covered in caramelized butter sugar. No lie! You will not regret it!!!! Keep these humble people in business Cleveland!!!!! This bakery may have my favorite croissants in the Cleveland area. Their baked goods are huge and wait for it... fluffy! The croissant was perfectly crisp but also baked to have consistent, fluffy layers. I've also tried their savory goods and it's all excellent. Located in the Innova building off Chester, they have 15 min street parking around the corner if necessary. Hoping that as the medical and dental schools are completed, the area will become more walkable (urban planning nerd here.) The cafe itself has about 20-25 seats with free WiFi- good for stopping in for work or leisure. Very clean and modern look and they sell madcap coffee - go visit them! read more

My first visit here on a lunch break. The space was very clean and bright with natural light. I was impressed that they make all their bread on site. I ordered the ham sandwich. The bread was amazing. So soft and fresh. It really made the sandwich delish! They also had a good variety of pastries. Cookies, Danish, etc. They're drink variety included bottled beverages. Teas, water, coke, chocolate milk. They also offered coffee, espresso drinks, and hot chocolate. They have Pizza but you have to wait for it to cook unless you come on Fridays when it's Pizza day and it's sold by the slice. What I had was really good and I didn't mind the price since it was so fresh and the bread was made right there. I like supporting the small guy. If I could make any suggestions it would be to offer a few varying sides to go with the sandwiches. Perhaps some chips, cole slaw, or pickles? Also, the sandwich choices were limited to 3 or 4 types of sandwiches only. Maybe more options or a build your own option? I also would have enjoyed mustard with my sandwich. I didn't see any condiments out and available. If they are available it wasn't obvious. Overall I can't complain. The food was good and that's key, right?! Keep it up! This place has become quite the magnet for us as it's both walking distance from work and in the same building as the little guy's daycare. So we are practically forced - forced I tell you! - to get a pastry and latte from here every day. The espresso drinks and pour over coffees are always fantastic and you will not have a better pastry many places. Emily, the barista is always friendly and EXPERT at her craft. The honey latte is outstanding and the vanilla variety features a house-made vanilla bean syrup. Both are delicious - perfect for an afternoon treat. Speaking of treats - get over there and try a Kouign Amann. I don't know what the hell it is, but it is fantastic. Flaky, buttery, just a touch sweet and just a touch salty. A LOT delicious. The father/son team doing the baking and lunch-preparing are in constant motion; it's cool to watch them doing their thing. I've tried several different menu items for lunch and all have been extremely fresh and delicious. Small rotating menu of salads, sandwiches, and pizzas is just right for a bakery cafe. Overpriced, subpar food, the most uncomfortable clinical feel of a restaurant, and the worst customer service. If you don't want a job where you have to talk to people you probably should have chosen a different profession. Essentially both of the people that work there (and I'm fairly confident one of them is the owner) act like working there is both beneath the and/or like it's part of their court-ordered community service. There is literally nothing special about this place to choose them over any other coffee shop in the uptown area.
