Exhaust Works was recommended and they diagnosed my problem, charged me NOTHING but referred me to another mechanic who had the tools and expertise to solve the issue. I sent to the referral and (that's another review) and $480 later I was good to go. I'm not saying this is the usual outcome however it was the HONESTY that impressed me. The recommendation worked out extremely well and trust was born! This is all we used car drivers ask for...honesty and expertise! You won't go wrong here cause they're on the right track!

This place is beyond shady. My mom brought my car in after they quoted her $580 for the job. I…read morealready had another shop offer to do the entire repair, parts and labor included, for $550 total. That's fair -- this shop was not. When I went to pick up my car, I saw they were charging $589 for the part alone. I asked if it was OEM, and the manager flat-out told me, "They don't have OEM for this car." That's simply false -- they absolutely do. When I pressed further and asked to see proof, he got irritated. At first, he didn't want to show me the part details or receipt. Only after I insisted did he reluctantly show me the box. From there, I looked it up myself and found it sold online for $332.99. To make it worse, there were plenty of other options available for barely over $100. When I confronted him with that info, he basically admitted it but hid behind excuses like "we have to make money on the parts" and "taxes." I get it's a buisness but a 229 dollar up charge that's after taxes is kind of ridiculous and mind you if I paid I would've had no clue the stuff he was trying to pull I think it was the shops attempt to show that there labor cost of 200 dollars is low by tagging it onto the part instead but this is downright wrong and misleading. Then they added $124 for an A/C recharge -- something my brother has done for me at home before with nothing more than a can of refrigerant. When my mom called to challenge it, they magically dropped $100 off, which shows how fake and inflated that charge was to begin with. The dishonesty here is crystal clear: * They quoted my mom a low number to get her in the door, then padded the bill. * They lied about OEM availability. * They marked up the part by over $220 and tried to hide the real cost. * They slapped on an overblown charge for a simple service, then reduced it instantly once pushed. Will never do business here again these men are liars and Scum, The other worker also said he told the manager the same thing to call my mom before doing the job but he instead just did it and charged his fees terrible experience Never come here. I wish i could give Zero stars

I feel bad writing this updated review because I have mixed feelings about PW Auto Clinic. (Know…read morethat many of the reviews here are for the previous business at this location - The Car Clinic). The steering wheel power telescoping feature on my 2013 Ford F150 failed. I took it to PW Auto Clinic and when I explained the problem in plain English what the problem was, the mechanic simply couldn't understand what I was talking about. I explained the problem repeatedly but he didn't understand what I was saying even though it was simply that the power steering wheel would not telescope. Even so, I got an estimate for $1,300. (Plus $150 for the diagnosis for a total of #1,450.00) I contacted the manager and he said to bring it back in so he could check it out himself. I had informed him that I found out that the mechanism can jam and sent him a link to a video that described how to fix the jam. He then sent me a video clip of him loosening a nut to free up the jam but it was clearly the wrong nut - the one for the tilt feature which works perfectly, not the telescoping feature. But he thought that the telescoping motor was burned out and needed to be replaced because it pulled a lot of amperage. But pulling high amperage can also mean that it's just jammed. I pointed that out to him but he never responded. By then, I had lost confidence in PG Auto Clinic So I took the truck to BSG Automotive in Yorkville. We went out to breakfast while they looked at the truck. I returned within an hour and my truck was in the parking lot already and the diagnosis was completed. In less than an hour, they did the following: They removed the telescoping motor and tested it. It was hot. So they put it in a freezer to cool it down but when they bench tested it, it heated up again and the bi-metallic circuit protector tripped so they knew the motor was, indeed, bad. But if PW Auto Clinic just replaced it would have burned out again because the root of the problem was that the mechanism was jammed. BSG then (all in less than one hour) removed the entire mechanism, freed it up so it's working perfectly again and re-installed it and the bad motor temporarily and ordered a new motor. The total parts and labor cost is $700 not including the $100 diagnosis fee. Bottom line: Diagnosis was $50 less than PW Auto Clinic and the repair cost $600 less. On top of that, PW Auto Clinic misdiagnosed the problem and, again, if they had just replaced the motor, it would have burned out again because the root cause was the jammed mechanism that I suggested was the root cause of the motor failure. BSG did a full and detailed diagnosis in less than one hour and fixed the root cause of the problem. When the manager sent me the video of him working the wrong nut, I texted him to let him know it was the wrong nut. He didn't reply at all. I didn't like that and it felt like he was giving me the proverbial finger. That's when I decided to take the truck somewhere else and I'm glad I did. BSG was incredibly fast and thorough, they found the root cause of the problem and they are charging much less for the job. I used to recommend the Car Clinic to everyone but I can't confidently do that now since it's PW Auto Clinic based on my experience with them. (Again, keep in mind that some of the Yelp reviews for PW Auto Clinic are for The Car Clinic previously at the same location.) On the other hand, everyone I talked to at PW Auto Clinic was very nice. Too bad the mechanic couldn't understand the problem. Too bad they misdiagnosed the problem and too bad they charged me 50% more for the a misdiagnosis and would have charged me $600 more to replace the motor which probably would have burned out again because they didn't find the jammed mechanism while BSG found it immediately and fixed it during the diagnosis. I'm saving $650.00 total by having BSG do the repair (correctly) rather than PW Auto Clinic. It's also too bad because PW Auto Clinic is right down the road from me and it would be great to have a competent auto repair place so close by. In fairness, PW Auto Clinic might do fine work for other types of repairs but they failed with this one and they were going to charge much more for the repair than BSG is charging me to fix the problem correctly. That price difference alone tells me to look elsewhere in the future.

Along the way, they kept me informed of the approximate time it would be ready. They have such an accurate system that they greeted me by name as I entered their door, at the beginning of the job. oh, and they also replace windshield wipers! Very competent service. They should be schooling Toyota dealerships on how to do service.

Another hour and a half later, close to closing time, they called to tell us that while driving our car the 20 or so feet from their work bay to a parking spot, our car's ENGINE HAD SEIZED UP AND WAS NON-FUNCTIONAL. They tried to play it off like it wasn't their fault and said they'd "help us" by finding a used engine at a junkyard (of equal mileage, approx 77K) and installing it. Took them about a month to do so. They gave us a 6 month warranty on the "junkyard" engine and free oil changes. Needless to say, they screwed us. Our car now reads 88K miles EVERY time we check the mileage on a mechanics machine, our air conditioning was never charged on the new engine, our spark plugs are crap, and our alternator needs to be replaced. Basically, they managed to render our car useless/destroyed during a SIMPLE OIL CHANGE. Andrew, the manager, said he would "help us out"... the car is now worth nothing for a trade-in because of their BS. My husband is a nice guy who had recently been through a bypass operation, and Andrew and the owner took advantage of his being nice and not one to make a fuss. DO NOT TRUST this place, DO NOT patronize them! I don't know how they did it, but they seized up our engine and destroyed our vehicle without a real care in the world about what they had done. My husband and I BOTH FEEL USED AND ABUSED. We own the car, and now our property is basically useless for driving or a trade-in. An oil change at this Merlin might seem like a good deal, and cheaper than a dealership would charge, but it's NOT WORTH IT. If they screw up your car during a simple oil change and seize the engine, they WON'T "make it right". They'll "fix" it as cheaply as they can and leave you screwed. STAY AWAY FROM THIS MERLIN AT ALL COSTS!!!

To begin, I bought this car brand new at Toyota of Elgin, but every time I go in for a simple…read moreservice, they give me a dozen things it does not need and make it imperative that I have them done asap plus do not check for what I want done. And, the service check takes forever (think 2 hours on a Saturday): 1. New tires (I went elsewhere for half the price, but that place told me i had at least another year on the old ones, so I was switching them out early) $2500 at Toyota ($1130 for four locally, better brand, original equipment). 2. Brakes: they did not check them even though they said they would. Instead tried to sell me a front caliper cleaning $117, rear caliper $117 nope. What I did need was the supposedly free brake check that they "forgot" to do. At local shop, told I have 80% wear left. Free check. 3. Rodent Deterrent -$303 nope don't need that. I use bait boxes in garage. 4. A/C Heater Cleaning $205 nope, don't need that 5. Fuel Induction Clean $299 nope, don't need that 6. Wheel Alignment $159 nope, don't need that 7. PCV Valve Replacement $142 huh? 8. Brake Fluid Exchange $267 yes, local shop said I could use that but they charge $140 9. New rim (it's a large scratch, who cares) $994 So, I came in for a brake check that they forgot to do, windshield wipers, and a tire check, and they wanted to charge me $4143, but I got out for $77 for the wipers and what they termed a "basic car check" that does not include checking brake pads. Who can afford this larceny? And, how can a "basic car check" not include the size of the brake pad remaining? My car has 35K miles on it now (it had 33467 at the time of the Toyota basic car heck). Guess where I'm not going back to today, now that my car keeps saying I need the oil changed? And, how do I need the oil changed when it's only been 2000 miles. I'm guessing that's because it's been 6 months. So okay, that's fine, I had it done locally for $95.00 and $38 to rotate my almost brand new tires. At least Pinnacle will do the brake check for FREE. Note that terribly damaged (not) rim in the photo on back tire. If you buy a Toyota, do not have it serviced at Toyota of Naperville, unless you like throwing cash out the window.

This place is odd... First off they have reviews that seem to good to be true. I received a business card on my Passat while grocery shopping, and actually, I almost threw it away! I then decided that I would let the inner gear-head in me do a quick check online. The reviews were all eerily positive. So i was naturally skeptical. I then checked their website out (www.fluidmotorunion.com) and saw their blog. Wow, how had i not known that a world class performance company was minutes away from my work? In house fabrication and custom ecu mapping was showcased on the pages and pages I read through. Ford, Nissan, BMW, and Lamborghini were just some of the vehicles I read about. Domestics, Asian, classics and specializing in European, these guys appeared to work on everything! Well as much as the performance interests me, I just don't have the money to put into making my car go faster, I just need it to run reliably. I recently moved back to the chicagoland area and have always been hesitant of the dealership. I was still hesitant at this point because i just didn't think a reputable performance shop would be good at repairs, the two just don't seem like they go together. I was still curious, so i called for a quote on some small issues i believed i had going on. The woman on the phone was very polite, but told me she couldn't give a quote over the phone. To me this seemed like the first warning sign that i should stay away, but as it turned out i was wrong. She stated that we don't charge to take a quick look at your car, and we will let you know what you actually need. Still a bit apprehensive about going, and quite frankly intimidated by the whole performance thing, I finally worked up the courage to go in. Again, Wow, the place was packed with high end vehicles outside and people were moving in and out and workers were dashing in between buildings, it was amazing! I walked in and was greeted by Marilynn, who took my keys and car concerns and they were off to work. I will admit i was a bit bored, no cable TV, and i forgot my laptop to take advantage of the wireless. I was getting an oil change and some issues i was having checked out. It took a very long time to do an oil change and i was just about getting irritated, when Marilynn came to me with a list of things that i would need to get done in the future with them itemized in order of importance. They told me there were things wrong, but not to worry, and gave me a time frame of 6 months before i should worry. I was even taken on a tour of the facility's and got to meet OJ, one of the owners, who advised me on the state of my car and some possible upgrades to do. The place has a full fab shop with some of the most unbelievable projects going on, its wild! They didn't charge me extra for the diagnosis as they give an hour diagnosis for free with the oil change, and they even cleaned out my interior and engine bay as if it was detailed. THIS PLACE IS ALMOST UNBELIEVABLE! Great pricing, great techs and its a fun place to go just to check out. I don't normally write this much about anything but I really want this place to succeed! Positive: Professionalism, Punctuality, Quality, Value Wonderful experience. I reached out to Fluid MotorUnion to seek help In fulfilling my life long dream to own a proper E39 BMW M5. First I sourced a fair to good quality unit sight unseen from an online auction platform. The vehicle was located in Canada during a pandemic at the time. Touched base with Marilyn at fluid motor Union to set up a plan. Her team was very happy to help in the process. Second I set up shipping of the vehicle directly from Canada to FMU for a full inspection. OJ and his team at FMU not only are master technicians and great people, the team at Fluid MotorUnion are automotive enthusiasts. They dug deep into my E39 BMW M5 as they inspected the vehicle, which every vehicle that receives a basic oil change receives this same thorough inspection. And we set up a plan to have everything that they recommended serviced to have a happy car. Once you make your first contact with Fluid Motor Union you are treated like family, better yet you are now part of the Union. They will go over any questions and present many options that will be in any budget that one may have in mind. FMU also offers online, text based scheduling system that is great. With online links to all your inspections and service recommendations with bills of lading and photos and videos of service being performed or a part that may need to be replaced in near future. as well as in person or over the phone for your custom fabrication and individual needs. As a over the road truck driver I wanted FMU in charge of this task because I knew I could trust them and as enthusiasts they would properly handle what I was looking for with my dream project and they over delivered. Marilynn & Team continues to do great work for myself and my family. The Team serviced my Dad's car which wasn't run in over a year and they brought it back to life, while identifying all the issues required. The difference between FMU and the Dealerships is that they take the time to do the root cause analysis, pics to establish confidence and competitive pricing. I've taken several of my Mercedes many times to the dealership, though they are top notch, everything is always replaced without the understanding of, "should it be replaced" or "can I get some more life till my next service"; this is the difference. Our dollars are important and the value of a product is important. Use the parts or fluids if it does not compromise the vehicle. I want to start with a huge thank you to Fluid Motor Union. I first met Marilynn a couple of weeks when I stopped in to make an appointment. (A must!) Marilynn opened up her calendar and found an open spot for my Tiguan. My vehicle went in for noise coming from the front. The team at FMU detailed their finding during the inspection and provided images. I have spoken to Marilynn multiple times during the two days my vehicle was there. The noise I was hearing was hard to duplicate. She then mentioned that OJ pinpointed what I was hearing. Overall they went beyond to make sure that I was satisfied. I've had this vehicle from day 1 and now at 99k miles, I know what noises are typical and what needs attention. Fluid Motor Union is NOT the stereotypical repair facility that wants you in and out. They listen to their customers and give 110% to assure you are satisfied. When it was time to reconcile, Marilynn said no charge. In my 30-plus years of taking vehicles in for inspections/ service, I NEVER had such news. If you need work done don't hesitate to give them a call or stop in to discuss your concerns. Fluid is the most honest car shop I have ever been to!!! I came in after getting a quote from the dealer. They told me that I didn't need my breaks changed yet and exactly how long I had left on them! They didn't even charge me a diagnosis fee since I did get it serviced there. There diagnosis is top notch and these guys really know what they are doing. I had a problem going on with my car and I took it to about 5 different shops and they were all stumped. The reception was also very nice and treated me like family. I got a tour of the shop and they have some mind blowing things going on. I would highly recommend it to performace freaks as all their work and welding reeks of quality. I felt confident after seeing all the high end cars in the parking lot...Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Lambo, etc. but what really impressed me was the technician's willingness to talk to me and explain what was going on with my car. This place is bullshit. Don't know if it was because I was white why I received such poor service and attention or if they just screwed me for personal reasons. Regardless, stay away from this place if you don't feel like being a repeat customer from falling into their scam. Mediocre work with nothing to back up anything they claim about their employees. Any articles you read about their cars are in fact owned by them or their friends. As for the scam, they will put codes in your computer to throw lights so you have to service your car more often as well as do intentional damage trying to get as much cash out of you as possible. Any positive feedback is from friends or family members as you will not find one legitimate feedback from someone they personally don't know. The woman running the shop knows nothing about cars, repair, or customer service. If you live in Naperville or are in the outlying western suburbs, and you are having problems with your European vehicles and or just want to give it a look that sets it apart from all those other Chelsea Tractors out there. Then Fluid MotorUnion is the right RX for your vehicle. OJ and his staff are second to none in knowledge and support. They have a great waiting area with a big screen TV, DVD's, XBOX, Games, and loads of magazines. All of which to keep you busy as well as the wife and kids, while your baby is getting a check up in the garage. Now my wife's grocery getter is tip top, and I would even take it out for a joyride every now and then. If you don't want to spend big bucks @ Perillo or Bill Jacobs and not get service with a smile. Then go to Fluid MotorUnion, get exceptional service, a smile, knowledge, and a bit of class for your vehicle! I was pleasently surprised at the service this place gave. Everyone knows their stuff here and I loved that they went over every detail of what work needs to be done and why. I was also happy that they were willing to work with me and gave me great advice on what work needs to be done and what I can wait on. They didnt try to upsell me which is hard to see these days. They seem to be very passionate about their work and it shows with the kind of work they did on my car. The place is also equipped with everything to make ur stay enjoyable. We have been customers of FMU for over eight years and had four of our German vehicles serviced there religiously. I'll echo all the comments regarding fair price and knowledgable staff but even more important is the EXCEPTIONAL customer service. Case in point - I recently had a panic situation requiring emergency work on a Saturday afternoon. Without hesitation OJ and Marilyn invited me to the garage and immediately proceeded working on my car. The shop closed at noon, yet work continued for nearly two hours into their afternoon until the issue was remedied. FMU is the reason my 11 yo BMW runs like a clock at 200,000K! Bravo!! read more

Tried replacing back brakes on my 328i on my own but wheels were seized to the hubs. Contacted Mike M. via e-mail and set up appointment. Brought parts I had purchased on my own and they used them without issue. Car was fixed incredibly quick and Chris was pleasant to work with. Only issue was that like Gerry H. said, I was pretty much ignored while I was waiting to pick up my car even though someone was stationed at the front desk. I just had my front bumper resprayed on my Porsche Cayenne Turbo and I'm thrilled with how it turned out. I have been told that silver is hard to match but it's perfectly blended color wise with the hood and fenders. Also, I they really went the extra mile replacing two bulbs and diagnosing and tightening a suspension component free of charge (I just paid for the bulbs). I took my Mercedes CLK550 in for a brake job, and then left it with them for evaluation on a little hot-rodding. Fluid has great experienced techs for repairs, and can test and tune anything with wheels. They have a dyno facility, cnc machining center, and Craig's fabrication skills are awesome. Whether you need simple repairs and maintenance, whether it's a toyota or Lamborghini, these guys are reasonably priced and skilled techs. Say hi to Marilyn for me while you're there. read more

Just took my mom's mercedes into the shop. The car was in limp mode and not moving. These guys were deeply concerned and helped me get it back on the road without it costing an arm and a leg. The boys cleaned up the module that filled with oil, cleaned it out and refilled the fluids. They could have charged me thousands but charged me for what was needed and what they did. This company is horrible and don't believe anything good you hear as they have an internet team posting false reviews just to get in your pockets. These guys are a bunch of young hacks who really don't know anything when it comes to cars except how to bolt pieces on which anyone with a tool set from sears can install. Take my advise and head to a REAL shop if you don't want to regret them screwing up your car. read more

I'm very happy with Fluid MotorUnion. Turns out they not only work on high-end imports, but they successfully removed the spark plugs out of my 2004 Ford F-150. Everyone is always super helpful and they go up and out of there way to help me and my STI out. My first visit was for 2 dyno tunes. One tune on 93oct and one on E85. Both tunes are flawless and really woke my STI up and made me fall back in love again with my car. To Whoever reads this do your own research before coming here for any service and if you have no other option and if they cannot guarantee your vehicle will be in working order when it is received back to you IN WRITING do not sign anything and walk away. I emailed p&L to book a tuning appointment for my 2013 Subaru wrx hatchback and get some parts put on which one being a Blow off valve. Ian who responded to my email asked if the Blow off valve I purchased came with a recirculation kit because without it the car would have drivability issues. I reached out to vendor to see if the blow off valve I purchased came with a recirculation kit and was told yes it did. They install the parts and their tuner Josh ran my vehicle on the Dyno. After the first run he told me it wasn't making the horsepower output it should be and Josh recommended replacing the spark plugs. After that it was put back on the Dyno for a second run and Josh said it's still not making the power output. I said I was never worried about horsepower gains I just wanted my vehicle to run safely. He said ok. They took my vehicle on a test drive and 10 minutes later they came back and told me my engine was knocking. I asked if it was drivable? Ian said yes and no and Josh just shook his head no. Josh then proceeded to tell me it was knocking on the first run on the dyno. Great customer service telling me that information but not until they were "done" with it. My vehicle should have been taken off the dyno and I should have been told immediately. Ian offered me for them to find out went wrong but at my own expense and I declined. Had it towed to my trusted mechanic but he didn't have time to look at it himself because he is also the service director of the shop he works at. So it got transferred next door to a mechanic my trusted mechanic trusts that had been servicing that car since new (I only owned the for car 2 months before the appointment at P&L). He stripped down the engine and found that 2 rod bearings were completely spun and gone and the main bearing caused the crankshaft to bind meaning P&L over revved my car hard. Once that was fixed it still had to get retuned. So my trusted mechanic (who I should of asked where to get it tuned to begin with) knows someone who recommended dynosource performance in Antioch Illinois so my car went there to get retuned and they did it right unlike P&L not to mention dynosource charged me for a recirculation kit for my BOV so p&L never put my recirculation on and they did that on purpose and there was no mention of it on the p&L invoice and Ian should of included that in my customer file. I did my part and made sure all the parts I purchased were for my car, made sure they were the right parts for my year, make and model, and all the parts I bought were brand new. P&L argued because my engine was rebuilt at 104k miles that's one of the contributing factors to my cars engine blowing. Engine is brand new so that means definitely nothing should have happened. It blew because Josh over revved it and they didn't put my recirculation kit on. I will post pictures of invoices. Total repair costs me just short of 10 grand. P&l are cowards and hide behind their waiver and use it as a get out of jail free card. Paul (who is the owner of P&L) hires people who don't care/don't know what they're doing and doesn't care about anything but your money.

They emailed me a soft copy but also printed it out and went over everything they came across without talking down to me. It probably took around an hour for them to inspect the car, but there's a nice waiting area to get some coffee and water. It's hard finding a trustworthy place and is reasonably fast. I'm glad there are auto shops like this that can restore my trust and faith in these places.

They took accountability from missing that were any other mechanic could've just charged me a fee for something like that. They are very honest mechanics and they've been established in Naperville for a very long time.
