Local neighborhood gem. Recently visited after too many years away and was not disappointed. Great outdoor covered seating too. Bartender was delightful and who knew, she's my neighbor. Cool people hanging out @ the bar too. A place I would feel very comfortable going to by myself. Good selection of beers @ reasonable prices. Met 3 friends there, 2 who chose not to eat, but 2 of us did and too bad for them. Let's see, we had the Nacho's, which weren't as good as I remembered and here's why. Yes, they were very plentiful and only a wee bit warm. What was the greatest turn off was ALL THE TOPPINGS were piled high in the middle and on top of the chips. So when you dug in, all you got was naked chips. It wasn't even the least bit appetizing. May not get those in the future. We did have a pizza - Carmel Blue which was quite tasty, good combo of ingredients and well spread out over the entire pizza. Crust was not great and paper thin, but, I would get this again. My boyfriend and I came here for Brunch and Bottomless Mimosas on Super Bowl Sunday using a Groupon. The brunch wasn't bad! The Groupon gave 2 items, so we got the "Birdnest Pizza", which was a breakfast pizza with eggs and potatoes on top, and the Chilequiles. They were a good quantity and we could eat only 3/4. The mimosas were fine - I could tell they were using a cheaper champagne, but who cares. It's very much a bar type setting, not the most sophisticated ambiance, but great for game day. Last time I was there, the hardest alcohol they had were soju along with soju based cocktails, but now they have a full bar! First patronage of the decade and met with the friendliest of service. We weren't here long on New Year's Day while we waited for our table to open up at Brenda's but still managed to sneak in a bottle of bubbly for some celebratory cheers. It's got a homely neighborhood vibe and it wasn't crowded. The bartender was so lovely with her infallibly positive energy and made sure we were well taken care of. Came here for brunch with two friends and we ordered the breakfast pizza, hash, and sandwich. Food: 3.5/5 stars. Hash was filling, but pretty salty and a tad overcooked. Service: 3/5 stars. Slow. There was only one girl waiting tables and she seemed pretty overwhelmed even though the place wasn't that packed when we went - most customers were at the bar. Hopefully they have more servers on staff during busier hours. Ambiance: 3.5/5. Tables are old, lack of windows in the room. Art pieces on the walls make for a good conversation starter though. Just one of THOSE days (that a girl goes through)... Yesterday happened to be one of THOSE days where everything compounded to the point I resorted to something I rarely do; use FB as a venting mechanism only to look like a total attention whore. BAD IDEA. People, this is why health insurance covers "mental health". USE IT. Perturbed over something that went awry, I was up all night tossing and turning all night only to then oversleep. The endorphins from my morning cardio session was temporary as I got into an argument with my melodramatic friend over something very arbitrary. This followed with finding duplicate charges on my debit card only for Wells Fargo to cancel my account without my consent. Leaving work early so I can get a temporary card, I found out upon arrival Wells Fargo were out of cards and going forward I will be charged $15/month for my account because I don't have a home mortgage tied to it (WTF?). Geez, can this day BE over already? My anticipation for dinner with my girls at Bar Crudo only turned into disappointment as we left $60 poorer, hungry, and offended by the service we received there. After my date and I met up with some people we have not seen in over five years at Solstice, we decided to head out to Fly after one drink. The number one reason? Because I have not been to Fly and I wanted to write a Yelp review about it :-)! There was a very nice crowd (college students, business men, couples, etc.) at 12:20am, but my date and I still managed to find a table. I really liked the drink menu written on a big chalkboard at the bar. Atmosphere is pleasant -- I loved the art prints on the wall. I did however, found it odd that I was the only Asian woman there... We enjoyed a half pitcher of Sangria as we psychoanalyze people. I loved the Sangria, but it was a bit weak according to my date. I always have a good time at fly bar until I have to go to the bar and order a drink. The gal this evening on a Friday night was very kind and lovely. But the man working behind the bar has never been kind to me or any of the people I brought with me. This is my third or fourth time coming to fly bar and dealing with this particular bartender. So before I left I asked the female bartender for my bill. She goes behind the bar and print out the receipt and starts waving it in the air. I thought that was my cue to grab it. I very quietly walked behind the bar and grabbed it. When she saw that it was me she looks surprised. The other bartender came over and started aggressively telling me to leave the back of the bar. When I explained my side of the story he was nothing but rude and again aggressive and did not understand whatsoever. I'm sick and tired of dealing with the bartenders bad conduct and just being downright RUDE! I also live on Fulton Street. So this is a real shame. Only come here when I get the groupon. That deal is the way to go if you want bottomless mimosas. You have a select menu with that but the pizza is really good. Not your typical pizza but its a hitter for sure. One time the lady was super slow at pouring and that pissed me off, and another time a dude was standing on the bar with his shoes trying to fix the sound system. Besides that it has been chill. Came here for a bottomless brunch with a groupon we bought. The brunch menu had a handful of items that were pretty unique including pizza (which I got). It was actually an awesome spin on a breakfast pizza and a very large portion. The mimosas were mediocre at best. Likely they used the cheapest possible champagne. I've been to Fly Bar once. It's a cute place with a lil pool table and lots of #locals. What really stood out to me and the reason I'm writing this review is because of the lovely bouncer I met -- Lucky !! Lucky was truly lucky. When I arrived at Fly Bar, I struggled to get my ID out of my purse, not because I was too drunk but because I decided I should bring a notebook in case I had any noteworthy thoughts. Tragically, the notebook made it so my purse couldn't open. I was worried that it was going to be stuck like that forever, but Lucky snapped his magical fingers and he FIXED IT!!! Later in the night when I left the bar because I discovered there was a caterpillar on my pants and I had to return it to a home of its choosing, Lucky listened to my entire tale and told me I was a kind caterpillar mom. This is a place I love to go to whenever I'm in San Francisco. Especially when I stay at Metro Hotel. It's conveniently close by. I like coming here more in the afternoon than at night. Really low key spot for Happy hour - so worth it! My BFF and I decided to come after reading some great reviews, and walked in to a very quiet ambiance. But to my surprise, I really liked it, because I can actually hear our entire conversation, didn't need to yell, and didn't need to fight anyone for the waiters attention. We decided to get a half pitcher of Sangria ($14), which was about 2 1/2 tall glasses for each of us, which was plenty and gave us a fun buzz! The beer and sake specials are wonderful and can help ease yourself into a long night, or provide a nightcap if you have had a walking tour. I hate Mondays. But not Happy Hour Mondays! The much raved about happy hour at Fly Bar is unbelievable. Happy Hour is from noon - 6:30pm. EVERY DAY. That's 7 days a week. Holy cow. Who wants to start drinking at noon?!? Their happy hour specials rock: $3 draft beer and sangria. $4 sake cocktails. Half-off pizzas. I mean, you can literally just have $20 in your wallet and walk out of here with a buzz and your tummy full. Man, the pizza. The crust was neither thick nor thin but it held the toppings well. We sampled the Shroom pie (portabello, mozz, pesto sauce) , Funky Chicken (BBQ chicken, red onions) and Margherita (I wasn't expecting real tomato slices but they had a nice salty cheese on top of em so it was okay). My sangria was refreshing and the glass it's served in is tall enough to quench my thirst. A couple of peeps played pool (only 4 quarters needed!) and we had a fun time. With the lack of any bit of social life lately, I was excited to be able to attend a little gathering with other fellow Yelpers here at Fly Bar for Happy Hour this past Monday, organized by my sweet gal pal Janice C. Talk about convenient Happy Hour! This place has serves up 1/2 off on all their pizzas, and $3.00 Draft Beers, Sangria, and Sake Cocktails between the hours of 12pm-ish to 6:30pm 7 Days a week. I opted for a Sake Nectar cocktail. It was just what I needed to calm myself down. We also ordered a few Pizzas--Margherita, Funky Chicken and the Shroom Pie. I liked the texture of the crust as it was nice and chewy. I also liked that the toppings were dispersed well on the pie as well, not overloading with one particular topping. Good compliment to some drinks. All in all, I definitely enjoyed the company of some of my favorite fellow Yelp buddies, and thanks again to Janice, for organizing this little get-together! Fly Bar has really Fun (and at times random) music that took me back and sake drink combos that intrigued and then got me a little buzzed. The flavor and consistency reminded me of Kern's guava juice. But then the alcohol slowly crept in and told me this kind of juice isn't meant for kids. My wife and I met up with Gill C and her friend Ting (no, not that Ting) last night. It was the Divisadero Art Walk Night and did not quite know what to expect. Gill had warned us that the restaurants and bars would be packed and that seating would be a premium. And she was right. I arrived first and walked up and down the street bouncing between Madrone and Fly Bar looking to secure a table. But it was my wife who showed up late who was able to snag a nice table with a street view for us. Fly Bar offers beer, wine and soju only. They do have Duvel which is my favorite Belgian Ale of the moment. To the person who I saw drinking a Pabst at Madrone. Your beer is trendy, but it sucks. Do yourself a favor and drink a good beer. Anyway, enough with my rant. Fly Bar also offers a better than average bar food bites. Pizza, sandwiches, chicken thingies, salads etc. We were a hungry group and sampled a few of these. I had the margherita pizza which I found to be delightful, thin crust with a healthy topping of cheese, tomatoes and basil. My wife went with the hummus appetizer which I did sneak a taste of and loved. Gill and Ting split a spinach dip app that looked of top quality as well. The bar is crowded and if you aren't careful you may find a strangers elbow resting in your face. But despite all the craziness, the service is good and the servers very friendly. Fly Bar remains a reliable hang-out spot for the area. It's an easy place to stroll into and find a place to sit (though on the weekend it can definitely get busy) and their pool table always seems to be popular. Their hummus plate is definitely worth ordering if you want a healthy meal and their other menu options aren't too bad either. I particularly dig Fly Bar, because their staff are welcoming and understanding if you don't drink. I popped in here yesterday and sat down at the bar. The kind bartender - was quick to get me water and checked in on me throughout the evening to see if I wanted refills. That being said - if you're like me - and enjoy gulping down the H2O - then get ready for a wait for the bathroom. Fly Bar only has one. If you're looking for a more cozy or social spot in the area - I'd recommend others over Fly Bar - but for a casual hangout, some solid sangria, and some decent food - Fly Bar knows what's up. Cool bar in my 'hood.' Used to be somewhat of a regular, but haven't been in awhile (well, OK maybe because I took an ex there for one of our first dates). Clearly, I need to get over it and head over to Fly, no?! I always have a great time at Fly. Good beer, wine, and soju selection. Music is always jammin' (whether the resident DJ is there or not). The vibe is pretty cool, although there were a few times where it seemed to be amateur night and all about the students and youngins. You can't go wrong with the reasonably priced-food (from the apps to the salads to the sammies). I am a cheesy gal, so one of my fav apps is the baked brie. It's served warm, and spreads so smoothly on the baguette. The garlic isn't overpowering either. Oh, and as a cheese lover, I heart the grilled cheese sammie. Hello, it's on sourdough, my most fav bread! Oh, and it's somewhat healthy since there's tomato! I've been to the Fly Bar several times. It's a cool for Beer, Wine, Sake and Soju kind of drinks. The Happy Hour offers a few specials and 1/2 off the pizzas. I used to take my grandmother here for pints of stella and pizza, I remember how much she loved it. It's been a long time since I've been back, but it was worth it. For a place without a hard liquor license, Fly Bar is surprisingly awesome. It's in the somewhat hipster neighborhood of NoPa (North of the Panhandle), so getting there can be a little sketchy (which is s what makes it cool). The decor inside is really loungey - red walls with random art. It's a small place that doesn't seat many people, but I was there for an engagement party, so we took up half of the tables in the location. We got to sample the pizzas, which were really nice; they looked and tasted a lot like CPK-style pizza, which is fine by me. I was starving, so I also ordered the Foghorn Leghorn sandwich. It was soooo good! The Foghorn Leghorn has chicken, bacon, guac, and other delicious things that came on delicious bread. To drink, I had a sake madras (oj & cran). It was pretty tasty. The crowd was somewhat mixed in age, gender, and hipster status. The music was really great. It seemed to mostly consist of good quality, less-than-mainstream 90s and 00s hip-hop. Here on vacation and stopped in for a drink with a local friend. A little slower for a Saturday evening that usual. The staff was very friendly. We sat at the bar and the bartender recommended a few things. FYI this place has no hard liquor. Only beer, wine, and hard kombucha. I definitely recommend the food. We were told the pizzas were small but honestly when we got ours it wasn't as small as I though it would be. We ordered the three cheese and it was amazing. One of the best pizzas I've had in a long time. I'm probably never going to come back since I'm only in town for vacation, but if my path ever leads me back to this area I'll be sure to come again. We headed to Fly Bar before a concert at the Independent. While the concert was a little bit of a disappointment, Fly Bar was not! I enjoyed a couple glasses of delicious sangria and was thrilled that a large glass was just $4. A lot of the beers were also only $4-$5! They also had soju cocktails and a couple with soy milk as an ingredient... interesting! Everyone who ordered food loved their pizza's, sandwiches, salads, etc. My bf ordered the Mediterranean salad and it was huge and great! It included fresh greens, beets, spicy peppers, green peppers, feta, tomatoes, etc. It was too big for him to eat on his own but perfect for me to steal several bites of! Even better, it was only about $8 (less than Mixt Greens!) The bar was busy but we were able to combine tables to seat about 10 of us. Good times, good food, and cheap drinks! Yippee! read more
