By far - my FAVORITE place to get me some fried catfish filets. I am here at least once a month and every single time they have been cooked to perfection. I like the casual come as you are atmosphere - especially when the weather is nice and they open up the garage door sized windows to get the outdoor eating vibe. This was our first visit to this location. We've been to a couple of others - the last time was the one on Irving Blvd. This one was the best yet. Easy parking for us. They have both indoor and street side seating as well as covered bit open air patio. They were quite busy doing a brisk business but the service was quick. Food was good and hot. I had fried oysters that were a good crispy brown. My husband had a shrimp poboy. We shared fried pickles which could have been crispier. Overall a good dinner - but it was $45 - and we had tea. Yay for a old school seafood joint! Flying Fish is friendly, laid back, and casual - just like a solid seafood place should be, with checkered tablecloths and all. You stand in line, order at the counter, and you're buzzed when you're food is ready for pick up. The menu is extensive and very well-priced. There's even a Protein Plate for you health nuts, with combo options of fish, shrimp, and oysters. I've tried a number of menu items and have enjoyed everything, especially the fried oysters (and I'm a pretty tough critic). I saw a sign for 50 cent raw oysters on Sundays, and I can definitely see myself taking advantage of that special in the near future. The oysters I've had there so far have been shucked perfectly. I really like this place because of the freshness of their food. As I stated in my check in there is another flying fish in Addison that is absolutely terrible. Overall, Flying Fish is a good place. I find it a little bit forgettable because frankly I forget about it. Depending on what you get, it can be a little expensive for casual food, but a lot of that is that seafood in general is a little more expensive. I would say Flying Fish is a place that I would never turn down or not want to go, but also is a place that although it should be right up my alley, isn't a place that I would even think to suggest going so I must not like it much. This location is my favorite by far in the DFW metroplex. The food is pretty consistent and the staff is always very friendly. The fried catfish basket (which I always get fried well) is tasty as are the hush puppies and the grilled snapper. Great Cajun vibes radiating from the many walls dedicated to showcasing the prizes of their fishing obsession and a classic casual south Louisiana menu- catfish, gumbo, hushpuppies and po' boys. The texture and battering for the fish fry (especially the hushpuppies) was perfectly executed, but personally, I could have used more Old Bay and/or Zatarain's seasons. Still, it's some of the best cajun food I've eaten in Dallas. It's also one of the only good places to eat in the SMU area that doesn't have an hour wait time at lunch- probably because of the fast turn over associated with "fast casual" service. I wish this was closer to my home. I'd likely be a regular. They have great gumbo, the hush puppies are perfect. I had my usual, salmon with grilled veggies. I've tried the fries, fried oysters, shrimp. It's all good. I like that they have a good variety and not all of the dishes are fried. You can get a burger if you want too. This review is just for the breakfast! Which sadly ends at 10:30 everyday. Breakfast sandwiches with eggs, cheese, and avocado the SIZE OF YOUR HEAD with delicious crispy hash browns!!! The eggs are super fluffy and the ratio to avocado is perfect. I always get the eggs scrambled but you can get them however you want. There's also breakfast tacos with cheese, potato, and egg and you can add sausage or bacon to it. And it comes with hash browns. Just one order is enough for a person. It's huge too. SO good. Presumably the other items on the menu are good but I can never get enough of these two items to try anything else. I've also had lunch once here: tilapia with grilled squash and zucchini. Pretty delicious and generous portion, but not something I crave or go out of my way for. Ambiance is very picnic-y. Lots of fishing pictures on the wall and the singing bass plaques that were so popular back in the day. The people who work here are so great! They are professional with a friendly tone. This was my first time eating here & I went on a Friday afternoon around 12:15 for a business meeting/lunch. The guy I was meeting with picked this place & I just went along with it. As we walked in, he starting suggesting different seafood dishes & that's when I informed him that I'm not a fan of seafood. He told me not to worry because they have really good cheeseburgers, The place was definitely busy, but there was still plenty of seating. We ordered the food & were given a pager so we would know when our food was ready. Considering all the people that were moving around in there, I'm glad we didn't have to stand around waiting for our food. The food was great! The acoustics of the building are prime meaning that we didn't have to yell in order for us to hear each other. I came here with a few of my colleagues and left unsatisfied. The reviews on Yelp appeared to be good and other users have enjoyed it. However, after visiting this place, there are a ton of better places out there (and cheaper too). The flavor itself isn't bad, but the catfish fillet was so thin. There isn't much fish per fillet and their "jumbo" shrimp isn't very jumbo at all. Maybe the prices at here are higher due to the high rent at Preston Village. I noticed they had 1 pound of boiled shrimp at ~$16/lb. There are way better places (Boiling Crab, Crab Station, Tasty Tails) that are priced much less. I know the restaurants are different but boiled shrimp should be similar. My colleague also found a long piece of dark string/hair in her shrimp. Again this place isn't the worst, but there are much better restaurants out there. read more

Tried this place out for the first time tonight. Ordering was quick and easy. Got a pound of hot boiled shrimp and a 3 catfish fillet basket. The catfish were breaded nicely (not too much) and fried just the right amount of time. The shoestring french fries were pretty good too. The hot boiled shrimp with corn and red potatoes was delicious. The amount of shrimp you get for the price can't be beat. We even had leftover shrimp to bring home. If you like a lot of the shrimp/crab boil seasoning I would ask for some on the side like we did. Not enough on the shrimp for my taste. And they have shaved/crushed ice for the tea and soft drinks which is even better. There was a small mistake on my ticket and I didn't realize it until after I paid but they fixed it without hesitation. As a side note and my personal preference I wish all the grilled plate options didn't come with grilled veggies as the side. Will def go back and would recommend this place to others. read more

I got a cup of their seafood gumbo and a shrimp po boy. The gumbo was terrible. It was black (it's supposed to be brown) and had sausage and shrimp in it. Sausage doesn't go in seafood gumbo. Because it was black, it's clear the gumbo isn't made with a roux in house. It would take way too long to get a roux that color, especially if you are having to make a lot of it.
