I ate here tonight with my boyfriend and his family for his step-dad's birthday, and felt compelled to write about our great experience! First of all, what really stood out to me was how this restaurant doesn't blast their music. It's very low and quiet, meaning you can actually hear people talk to you. I can't stand a loud restaurant. We were taken care of by Adam, who was very knowledgeable about the menu and thoroughly explained everything. He made good suggestions when some of us were struggling to make a decision. My boyfriend's step-dad did not want a big deal made out of his birthday and declined dessert, but Adam very sweetly brought over a fried banana with a candle in it and lit it at the table so he could make a wish. I thought it was a very nice touch! He also brought a side of sweetened condensed milk (I believe), and a side of chocolate sauce. All of the food was good too. I wasn't in the mood for meat so I just did the market table. I had seen several $49-$59 dining experiences online, but for some reason was unable to actually locate the offers. Instead I planned a lovely bar luncheon experience for my god-daughter's birthday celebration (September 23rd), however, we didn't even get to eat there: I called a bit after 3:00 pm on the 22nd: I got an AI-Robo-Operator, that had no idea what I was inquiring about. I asked it several times getting nowhere, finally after asking the AI-Bot for a manager, I was placed on hold. After waiting on hold for several minutes, I got to an answering service/machine (at this point I was fuming) and was directed to leave a message, my name, phone number, & inquiry. I cannot imagine why at this hour that No One Bothered to Answer, so I did as the machine asked: I left a brusque message inquiring about corkage fee w/ my name & telephone number. The machine assured me that someone would return my call. No one bothered to return my call... A bit after 5:00 pm (two hours later) I called again. The woman answering didn't know the answer & went to inquire for me. When she returned she informed me that the fee to uncork a bottle of wine was $35. Seriously? I have been many, many places and no place that I have ever been has charged that much... That being said, do they really think that I'd pay their price for a bottle of house wine/champers instead? After much discussion, we decided that it would be best to dine elsewhere.... This is not the first time that a Fogo has provided less than decent customer service. I had high hopes for Fogo de Chao, especially celebrating my wife's birthday with our family of 8 (6 adults, 2 kids). Unfortunately, the experience left us disappointed. The Good: The food was excellent. Almost every meat we tried had great flavor and was cooked just right. Some of the bacon wrapped items were surprisingly a little dry and tough. The salad bar is a nice touch, offering excellent variety and the ability to customize your plate exactly how you want it. Truth be told I thought it brought a wonderful ambiance to the place as their backdrop and center point when you walk into the restaurant. The Bad: Service was painfully slow and inattentive. My mother-in-law ordered potatoes (nothing special, just as a side) they arrived an hour later after we'd already ordered dessert. The meats came around slowly and inconsistently. When we ordered dessert we were told they were out of creme brûlée, 30 minutes after ordering it. That information would've been helpful upfront. We had no drink refills throughout our meal. I had to chase down a server for a simple second cocktail, and eventually had to approach him again directly to request the dessert and the check because we were pushing 2 hours and our kids were done. The Bottom Line: While Ingrid (I think one of the managers) tried to make amends with comped desserts and a small gift card, it didn't offset the experience. For a $500+ bill on a special occasion, better service coordination is expected. read more

We've been coming to Fogo de Chão for a couple of years now. It has always been one of those places my husband and I look forward to, whether it's for my birthday or one of the rare date nights we get to have without our kids. Unfortunately, our experience this past weekend was completely different from what we've come to expect. This time, we decided to bring our kids and have dinner as a family. After being seated, we waited about 20 minutes before our waiter finally came over to greet us, and even then, he wasn't particularly friendly or welcoming. During the entire hour we were there, we only saw our actual waiter twice. Any time we needed something, we had to stop other employees walking by and ask for help. What made the experience even more uncomfortable was watching the tables around us receive completely different service. Employees regularly checked on them, while no one seemed to check on us. There was also a customer service representative walking around the dining room who never once stopped at our table, despite repeatedly visiting nearby tables, offering them items, and checking on their experience. I do want to give credit where it's deserved. The servers coming around with the meats were AMAZING. They were attentive, friendly, and made us feel welcome. They were honestly the best part of our experience. They are always the best. Unfortunately, when it was time to leave, things didn't improve. We had to wait again just to get someone's attention so we could ask for our check. When we finally did, we were met with a snarky comment about dessert that just added to an already disappointing evening. I normally always leave a tip when we dine here, but this was the first time I genuinely did not feel comfortable doing so. What bothered us the most wasn't simply having slow service. It was watching the tables around us receive attention and hospitality while our family was repeatedly overlooked. By the end of dinner, my husband and I both walked away with the same feeling. We felt like we were out of place and not as welcome as the other guests around us. That's a terrible feeling to leave with, especially from a restaurant we have genuinely loved and chosen for special occasions over the years. After sitting at our table for a few minutes without any server stopping by, we flagged down the hostess as she walked past to ask about the meat experience. She kindly explained it, brought us cheese bread, and started filling our water. As she was pouring, our server finally arrived. While our server was nice, she was very inattentive throughout the meal and rarely checked in on us. The servers that brought the meat frequently came with different options and were kind; however, we still felt as if our main server was neglecting us in comparison to how often we saw her at the other tables. The hostess ended up returning multiple times to refill our water, and my husband noticed she was bussing tables as well. This led us to believe the server's poor service was likely due to the restaurant being understaffed or her being overwhelmed by the larger party there. Regardless of the reason, the experience was disappointing. I rarely write reviews, but felt compelled to share this. Wow awesome service I had the most attentive amazing service staff from samantha and unfortunately I wanna say cat but samantha was our main server who talked us through the entire evening gave us the most amazing drink and desert recommendations. I was happy well fed and so impressed by this outstanding server I had to write a review. For context I am a plantain obsessed individual who made that known in advance where I she went above and beyond to keep our 4 top stocked with all the accompaniments, recommendations for what meats to look out for. And even salad bar (which was smaller than some other locations but at least per her recommendations were done excellently) I was so happy in there at peace with a main server and co server who took such outstanding care of us I could only sit there pretty and eat and chat with the table. Made a reservation for a late lunch to celebrate Mother's Day a day early to beat the crowd and typically long service time. There was no hostess to greet us when we arrived, because apparently she was also bussing tables. They did not have anyone else. When she finally came to greet us, she was very polite and friendly. She said our table will be ready soon, so she left to clear our table. While we were waiting for our table to be ready, I went towards the restroom to wash my hands. On the way, I saw a male manager standing to the side of the bar area talking, along with a female manager comfortably drinking a cup of cappuccino. Once seated, a nice lady came to take our drink and food orders. Unfortunately, the entrees took forever to come and they all came at different times. Keep in mind we came in at 2pm when the dining room was clearing out. However, the kitchen apparently was still backed up. We had a young kid (my son) in our party, who had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for a cheeseburger (over 30 minutes). My mother-in-law waited for her salmon over 40 minutes, and it wasn't worth it, because it was overcooked. My daughter had to wait over an hour for a tofu plate! Before they all the entrees arrived, I had to ask the waitress for an update as opposed to her letting us know. We were offered complimentary fried bananas that were soggy instead of having that crispy outer shell because of the crystallized sugar. As for the meat that goes around, there was basically only one server going around at any given time. On some occasions it might have been 2 of them. Kind of ridiculous for a Brazilian steakhouse. I will say the meat servers were friendly and polite. The other positives: the filet was tender, the ribeye was flavorful, the bacon wrapped chicken was fine (mostly because you can't go wrong with anything that has bacon), the pork sausage was ok. They did keep clearing our plates when we were done with them. The salad bar was just okay. I feel like the dinner version has better options and varieties. There was supposed to be an omelette station but there was no one manning it the entire 2 plus hours that we were there. We had to keep asking for water refills. We were never asked if we wanted more drinks. To add to what was already a frustrating experience, when our waitress came near the end of our meal, we asked for to-go containers so we can order some desserts. She never came back. Perhaps she went on a break which is fine, but it is customary that you tell your customers and another staff member should cover for you. We patiently waited without complaint, but annoyed that almost 30 minutes past before another server walked by to ask how we were doing. At that point I was not in a good mood and expressed it in my tone. To his credit he got us what we asked for (to-go boxes, bill, and bag), and when he did come with those things our regular waitress all of a sudden showed up with him. No apologies. I have to note that before the young man came to check on us, the same lady manager I mentioned earlier walked past us twice looking around never acknowledging which is what you would expect from a manager doing their job. I point this out, because the root cause clearly lies with ineffective managers who don't do or don't know how to perform their job. When we first asked our lady server we needed to-go boxes, we were excited to checkout the dessert menu. After that horrible experience, we just wanted the bill and leave. Unfortunately, similar to my experience at the other locations, the customer service can't keep up with what the ambiance and price point demand of it. There was one Gaucho who was flat out rude, but for the most part, it just seems like employees aren't well trained. That being said, there are a few who stood out because they provided the type of service you expect when you're spending close to $100 per person. The salad bar was regularly refilled and the endless variety of meats were constantly offered to us, but this location does seem to over salt their meat. Went on a week night after a Costco run, figuring too late to start cooking dinner at 6:30. The restaurant had fewer patrons versus a Friday or weekend. The salad bar selection and cuts of meats did not disappoint. It was an outstanding experience with wonderful dishes and even better service. Someone who stood out was Miguel who constantly would ask our preference of next and additional meats, cheeses, pineapple, etc. Everything was incredibly delicious, our drinks were refilled which very nice to have done without request. I think $112 is overpriced and only because I'm comparing it to Mastros which offers about the same amount of seafood including oysters and a large helping of crab cocktail (and no mess) for $80. Still I do recommend it just be prepared for the mess :o) The Market Table & Feijoada Bar is amazing! So much to choose from and so hard to not over eat! Included with the meals whether you choose an entree or the full CHURRASCO which is where they're constantly bringing a variety of meats to the table! 2 of us had that and 2 of us ordered the SINGLE CHURRASCO CUT with top & bottom sirloin *excellent! I don't eat beef, but my boyfriend does, so we decided to go to this Brazilian steakhouse since they also offer pork and chicken. I was excited to try it, but honestly, it didn't go as I hoped. First of all, I waited around 15 minutes for any chicken or pork to come by, while steak kept coming nonstop. My boyfriend really enjoyed his steak, so that's definitely a plus for beef lovers. But when I finally got some chicken, it was completely dry. Then I tried the pork with parmesan, and it was so tough I could barely cut it. I was also looking forward to the salad bar, but it was pretty disappointing. Maybe it was because we came on a Monday and there weren't many people, but a lot of the items looked like they hadn't been restocked. The pineapple I took was still green and not sweet at all. The only thing from the salad bar I really liked was the corn salad--it was actually delicious. I understand this place focuses mainly on beef, but I think the other meats should still be tasty and well-prepared too. It kind of felt like they didn't put much care into anything besides the steak. The grilled cheese with honey was amazing, and the service was good. The atmosphere was cozy and nice too. She handed me too different menus and that my Server would explain how it all works, ok. So briefly I asked how does the self serve Salad bar work and she said it costs $39.00 per person and if you want meat it would be an additional cost up to around $79.00 per person. Mind you not it's all you can eat. But really how much can we really eat? So I was waiting for the server to explain to me the different options that are available and she really didn't explain to us how it all works. So as I'm setting here I Saw a Big Hamburger go by my table and I said I would order that along with the Salad Bar. The Burger was Delicious and the cost of it would blow you away and unfortunately I'm not going to tell you the cost. You'll have to experience it yourself. So to some it all up. It would have been better and more pleasant if the Server would have explained the brief explanation of the menu's and inform the customer how it all works rather than just asking us are you ready to order. I've been to several Fogo de Chão locations, including the Midtown Manhattan location in New York City. While the Thousand Oaks restaurant is not as large, it has a charm of its own. The restaurant is located in a relaxed shopping center with a pond and walking paths nearby, making for a pleasant setting. The service was excellent.
