The chicken katsu was perfectly crispy on the outside while staying juicy and tender on the inside, paired with a flavorful sauce that brought everything together. The kalbi short ribs were just as impressive, marinated well with that sweet and savory balance you expect from great Hawaiian BBQ, and cooked to perfection with a nice char. Sides: Each plate came with white rice and macaroni salad, and both hit the mark. The rice was fluffy and a perfect base for the meats, while the macaroni salad was creamy, simple, and exactly what you want alongside a hearty Hawaiian meal. Appetizers: We also grabbed a classic spam musubi, and it did not disappoint. The spam was nicely seared with a slightly sweet glaze, sitting on perfectly seasoned rice and wrapped in seaweed. Simple, but done right. Ambience: The vibe here is as authentic as it gets. It truly feels like a small family-run spot where the focus is on good food and good service rather than anything flashy. I felt compelled to leave this review because this place truly deserves more recognition. Luau Grill is a newer spot in Westlake Village, and while I often see it quieter than it should be, the food and overall experience are honestly impeccable. The food is extremely consistent -- which is exactly what you want from a restaurant like this -- and every time I've come in, everything tastes just as good as the last visit. The restaurant itself is immaculately clean, the portions are generous, and the prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity you're getting. On top of that, the service is excellent. There's a staff member I often see working there who is always attentive, friendly, and makes the experience even better. I also really love seeing Hawaiian culture and beach vibes making their way into Westlake Village -- between this spot and the new Hawaiian coffee shop coming in, it's such a great addition to the area. I usually call to place my order to avoid a long wait when I get to the restaurant. The employees are always professional and friendly when placing my order and in store. I usually get the Hawaiian BBQ mix and since I don't like macaroni salad, I sub it with vegetables. They have a self service section with teriyaki sauce and katsu sauce. I have tried only a few of their plates and it's so far all been tasty. I will have to try something different the next time I visit. read more

Clean bathrooms are always an added plus. Great music playing inside and I super appreciate that they have all of the sauces available in the lobby to grab. This was a big plus for me (no awkward asking for extra sauces or worrying that sauces won't get packed). Another strong plus was the service. The gentleman that helped us behind the counter today was very friendly and helpful in answering our questions. A nice guy. The food overall was good, standard tasty chain Hawaiian bbq. I ended up going with the duo of chicken plate. Hawaiian chicken (like a grilled teriyaki) and their chicken Katsu. Solid all around but I definitely prefer the Katsu. Their Hawaiian chicken was a little stringy and not super juicy. Still good. Their Mac salad is a 10/10. Love the hints of tuna and how creamy it is. Delicious. Paired my meal with a Hawaiian juice and you can't go wrong. Meals are about $20 a person. Pretty good sized proteins. Huge portions! We got the Hawaiian BBQ Mix and BBQ and Katsu mix. The beef and kalbi were a bit dry, but for the price, I really can't complain. On the other hand, the chicken texture was very tender, and the chicken katsu perfectly crispy. My boyfriend and I stopped by here for dinner the other night since this is not only a new spot in town, but one of the only places in what feels like a 30-mile radius that sells Hawaiian BBQ. It was fast and easy, given that the set up is from what used to be Jersey Mikes, so they got the speed for sure. Normally I do not like ordering fried fish to go because to no fault at all of the restaurant the breading becomes mushy and not pleasant. Not this place. The island white fish was moist inside, fish was very flavorful and some of the crispiest breaded fish I've ever had. I Highly recommend if you are craving some good fish filets. The price of the plate was more than fair for the amount of food you get. Mac salad was great , rice was the perfect temperature and cook like it should be on a Hawaiian plate. We got there just after opening. The meat was perfectly seasoned and well cooked. I got the Hawaiian Mix bbq plate and my wife got the chicken katsu plate. The Mac salad was delicious. I think the star of the show was the chicken katsu, made with chicken thigh and the katsu sauce that went with it. You could eat it off a shoe.
