Went to Dallas from OK specifically to eat here. Was able to make a Thursday evening reservation using the Open Table app.
They do have complimentary valet parking which I recommend using as most of the parking around the restaurant are reserved & you can get towed. So if you chose not to valet, proceed with caution and read posted signs.
You could dress business casual up to dressy here. Be sure to check out the meat skewers around the open flame in the front entry when you enter. You can see it from the outside and the inside. Cool touch.
Had 2 in our party, was immediately greeted and seated. Waiter showed up, greeted us and explained the process as it was our 1st time and took our drink order and turned us loose on the salad bar or Market Place as it is called here.
There are no menus to view because you're here to eat as much meat as you can handle, right? Each diner has a round card. One side is red, one is green. When you are ready to start the meat part of your meat, turn that card over to green, grab the tongs at your plate and in seconds, meat arrives. The tongs are for you to grab the meat that is sliced by
42 different types of salads, cheeses, bread, soup, salmon. This is more than a salad bar. Oh, and you can go back. I had an apple salad that reminded me of waldorf salad. Forbidden black rice with mangos, 3 or 4 different cheeses, and so many different and delicious things that I can't remember anything but that my mouth was happy.
Once you turn that card from red to green, prepare to be quietly and politely approached by men (one at a time) with meat on iron tridents and a sharp knife to ask if you want what they have to offer. If it's yes, he will begin to carve if a slab of meat or will slide a piece of meat if that was how it was prepared. It was about every two minutes it was man, meat.
You have tenderloins, sirloins, filet, ribs as well as chicken, lamb, pork, pork loin, sausages. When you need a breather, turn your card back to red. You can start over at anytime, just go green.
Watching the gouchos(?) with their metal tridents and sharp knives move around the dining room from table to table was like a ballet. They were experienced, no one ran into anyone in the busy dining room. It was beautiful to watch as I stuffed my face with meat. That may be the real magic of Fogo's. Watching the meat appear and be served.
We had a lovely assistant server who kept our tea full, brought us a plate of garlic mashed potatoes, fried polenta that resembled French fries and were delicious. Pao de Queijo which was rolls made of yucca flower and parmesan cheese. Super delicious! After the fact, I discovered that there were sauces we could of had with out meats, so next time for us, but don't your forget. Oh, and did I forget to mention the caramelized bananas? Also delicious and not too sweet.
I am assuming the manager went by each table to see how things were going and if anyone needed anything. If you did, off he went to have someone bring it to you. There is a meat list on your table so you can see what you've had or haven't had. When the manager heard that hubby was missing 3 meats, he got them sent over pronto.
No one waits and gets hungry here.
We were there for almost 1 1/2 hours, but it didn't seem like it. Oh, and our waiter who we met at the beginning of the meal? He brought us the check and was the cashier. We saw him 2 times, the "assistant" waitress we saw several times and she explained what things were as she served them. And we saw at least 10 different "goucho's" with meat at our table.
Glad we experienced it and if I lived near a Fogo, I would take out of town guests there for the experience. read more
