I'm a big guy who lovesssss to eat, and this place instantly won me over. I ordered the pork fried rice and asked for extra pork--it's only $2 more, so naturally I went for $4 extra. Totally worth it. The portion was huge, the flavors were spot on, and the whole meal (tip included) came out to under $15. It brought back major nostalgia of the old Chinese spot that used to be at the entrance of Mayport Naval Base in the old Food Lion shopping center. Same comforting vibe, same "I need a nap after this" satisfaction. If you're craving fried rice or just want a solid, affordable meal, give this place a try. You won't regret it. read more

Well it's an end of an era. Fong's is under new ownership. The food is terrible. Nothing tastes the same. The chicken and broccoli had a chemical smell and taste. The honey chicken was soggy. The egg rolls inside were soggy. The cream cheese wontons were ok. The pork fried rice tasted different but not great. They were giving out free sodas because the wait was very long. After 30 years it's time to find a new Chinese place. Why purchase a successful restaurant and change everything. read more

Amazing service. Very sweet family who owns and runs. The son running the register even helped bring my to go order out to my car because my hands were full with my toddler. The serving sizes are ENORMOUS. Had lunch for a few days after. Great little spot. read more

Really sorry but this was one of the few meals that I have eaten and had to throw away after a few bites. The chicken with vegetables was swimming in sauce. So much sauce that quite a bit spilled out of the container and into the plastic bag. I drained the rest into the sink but that didn't help, the food was inedible. I LOVE Fongs! We have gone to Fongs for at least 15 years. By far the best take out Chinese food around. I will always get either the House or Pork fried rice, my husband gets either the orange chicken or house fried rice. We also always get the egg rolls, cheese wontons, fried dumplings, and wonton soup. Everything is absolutely delicious. Mrs Fong and her family are sweet and I will always go there for our Chinese food!! read more

I just moved to this area and decided to try Fongs. It is take out only which was fine to me. At first glance they aren't a cookie cutter Chinese restaurant. They have all the hits. The menu is not overwhelming. I got the sesame chicken large with rice - the size was family sized!!! Great quantity for price and then I tasted it and it's really good!!! For a merely $28, we ordered the following, shrimp fried rice, cream cheese ragoon , pork fried rice, small wonton, chicken with garlic sauce and egg drop soup. Ordered and took less than 15 mins for them to cook! The owners are super sweet and are very accommodating. The cream cheese was by far the best I've had , lightly sugared on the wonton wrap and deep fried to perfection. Egg drop soup was not dense and you can taste the flavor! Add some black pepper if you want a little extra flavor. Shrimp fried rice was your normal, nothing to out of the ordinary. read more

If could give less than 1 star I would. All 3 plates were an absolute disappointment. This tastes nothing like Chinese food.

My SO loves this place, I however was disappointed the first time and thought I would give it a try again. This time even more disappointed. We ordered Hunan with steam rice and orange chicken with lo mein. Check out the pictures below because they look the same. There wasn't a single orange in his chicken, not a single spice in the Hunan chicken which is supposed to be spicy. When we called to let them know she says, general Tso's and orange are similar. Well what does that have to do with my hunan? We were only going to simply let her know but after that phone call, the world should know. I'm not doing this place any more. There's more. Food was bland even after adding soy. Just really disappointed. Guess we'll keep making our own Chinese cuisine at home. read more

Fong's is a little family owned restaurant tucked into the Winn - Dixie strip mall on the corner of Atlantic Blvd and Girvin Road. When you walk in there are maybe 12 tables, a soda fountain and the counter to place your order. You immediately notice all the familiar smells associated with a Chinese Restaurant and expect the same in taste. Wrongo Mooseface! The food is fresh and well prepared. I have never seen an advertisement for them so I am going to assume the extra budget goes toward good ingredients. I am a Sesame Chicken girl and my order came with tender chicken and none of the hard fried batter stuck to the ends. After reading, researching, and generally driving myself crazy finally decided to place a pick up order with Fong's. Rainy day in Jacksonville so Chinese sounded like the ticket. Ordered General Tso's with no veggies. Large portion. Best my son every had - nice and spicy. He commented that generally it is not spicy enough (get the kleenex ready as your sinuses will open up). I ordered Moo Goo Gai Pan (no broccoli). Delicious too but way too many of the "other" veggies. Egg drop soup did not disappoint either. Only reason for 4 stars and not 5 is when I asked for fortune cookies I was told there is an additional charge - so I passed. What Chinese restaurant does not give "complementary" fortune cookies? Never had this happen either dining in, delivery, or pick up. Inside restaurant - only about 6 tables. Not a place I'd stay for dinner. Maybe lunch? But in my world generally a pick up dinner type of place. Definitely would recommend for this type of dining experience. read more

I really REALLY wanted to LOVE Fong's after reading all of their great reviews on Yelp but the truth is I didn't love it all....I mean I liked it, but ..... And that's where I'm stuck. I went into Fong's expecting to be blown away, which I guess is the main problem. I felt pressured to place an order as soon as I walked in. I expected there to be more options than there actually were, so when they didn't offer what I had really wanted I was disappointed but went with another Chinese favorite- General Tso's Chicken. I waited for my order for what seemed like forever, but was understandable considering Fong's is a mom & pop type place. Here's my review of the actual meal.....the chicken was yummy, and definitely spicier than General's chicken would be at other places, but I love spicy food so I was just fine. Really, that's the only memorable thing about it. I'm not sure if I'd try Fong's again....so I'll just leave it at that. read more

The egg rolls were very greasy but tasted like every other egg roll you've ever eaten. Nothing to write home about. The next thing we ordered was the general Tso's chicken. I'm not sure where they got the recipe for this dish but it did not taste like any other general Tso' chicken we've ever had. It was a little spicy-more like a mild Sriracha. It had a funny flavor no sweetness at all. The last dish was sweet and sour chicken which came exactly as expected. Thank goodness for that or we both still be hungry. Warning, do not Ask for fried rice. They don't know how to make it. The rice was very bland there was nothing in it no egg no vegetables nothing. I rate the food two stars.
