Fontaine is a quaint restaurant located in Old Town. They have two different seating areas. The tables in the front of the restaurant are close but you don't feel like you are sitting too close to the other tables. Although we were sat quickly. There were several tables who received their order before my table. Somehow the order for my table was impacted by a computer glitch. One of the hostess offered a crepe to make up for the error. I went on a Saturday and they were only serving the brunch and the crepe menu. The French toast was okay, definitely have had better. The French toast is a single slice of brioche bread with powdered sugar and walnuts. I opted to add the fresh strawberries.

Got GF crepes and tasted so yummm you could barely tell. Service was sub par, but we did come in half an hour before closing. Price was expensive, but outdoor seating was nice and service was quick I didn't even mind. Will be back!

I got the strawberry and Nutella crepe. I asked for the strawberries on the side instead of in the crêpe.

I got the strawberry and Nutella crepe. It tasted so delicious. My only complaint is that it wasn't enough food. I wish it came with two crêpes, especially for the prize that you're paying...

Crab cake sandwich... was bland... and this coke cost $4.00 which is unreasonably insane.

While the ambiance was charming and the restrooms were clean, the overall experience left much to be desired. The food was overpriced given the lack of flavor, and the service was slow, we had to request nearly everything. On a particularly hot day, the minimal ice in our drinks didn't help, and we waited far too long just to place our order. But my friends loved it! ‍

What a beautiful restaurant in the ever so quaint, Old Town Alexandria. We came for brunch on a Saturday morning, and were seated outdoors on a beautiful crisp sunny day. The brunch menu is different to one which you would ordinarily find at a restaurant. Being that it is a French restaurant and Crêperie - the brunch menu was very on brand. The options varied from a wide variety of sweet and savoury crêpes, a breakfast bruschetta, smoked salmon and scrambled eggs, quiche du jour and much much more. Delicious, divine and delectable. I had the savoury Sultan crêpe, and was really impressed with the full range of flavours from the spicy lamb sausage, lentils, spinach & feta cheese!!! Such a unique take on your usual ingredients in a crêpe, and literally an unforgettable meal!! Sometimes having a table outside means that you can get forgotten, but this was far from the case in this instance. Our server was extremely attentive and also gave great recommendations for things to order when we were indecisive.

Chocolate ice cream and dark cherry wine sauce nestled inside a warm crepe. A perfect, melting bite. Nyomm!

My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch. She had a savory crepe while I had the quiche. Both were really great! It was packed, and we waited a bit but the food was worth it. The vibe, atmosphere was cozy but it's a little cramped. I'd rather wait longer and see fewer tables. Overall, worth coming to though and we'll visit again. It is pricey, though, so be prepared.

*** updating the review and dropping to 1*. Reference the below very, wow, interesting response. Before I wrote the review, I went inside and talked to 3 employees and asked if they saw any of the money in the markup. All three said no. So, I did make an effort. Odd that none of the three employees knew enough about their benefits to clarify. Fellow readers, you decide. /////////////// Nothing special. I considered 2* but hate to do that. Enjoyed the outdoor sidewalk seating. Just stopped for a coffee and thought the large crepe menu looked interesting. Had the Wild Berry Crepe. Nothing special. Mostly strawberry icecream. Had a few strawberries. Not really what I expected (more "wild berries" maybe?). More of a dessert for sure. *** Watch out for the 10% "Restaurant Fee." It doesn't go to the staff just the owner. Hate to write but I probably won't go back anytime soon.

    Shakshuka

The shakshuka was not very flavorful. Among whatever other reason, I'm sure it is in part due to the fact there are no tomatoes, just lightly seasoned tomato sauce, definitely from a can. The crepe filling was good on the old towner but the buckwheat crepe wasn't a personal preference. Great ambiance though!

Great location. Large. Inside and out. Good service. Breakfast. Cinnamon buns too. Get there now! Inside large clean modern hotel. Park underneath hotel. $20 for all day.

Traveling and stopped at this cozy place reviews seemed reasonable and the area is very nice. We arrived as a party of 9 and the expression on their face was a shocked. They sat us towards the back where they have a larger sitting area. From the start they did not seem very happy with us visiting. We would ask questions and the responses were as if we were annoying to them. The food was good but very pricey, not worth the pricing considering all the additional charges at the end of the bill. We came during lunch/brunch and they only served brunch. You can not order anything else on the menus but brunch (including lunch is excluded). Our bill was close to $250 with all the additional fees and charges. I would have expected a much more friendly service considering the price, location and the ambiance. It's a shame that as tourist this was our impression of the area.

Although they offered us the elevator, it was located on the opposite side of the restaurant, making it a bit difficult. I asked if it would be possible to move to the first floor, and they kindly accommodated our request, which we really appreciated. The food was absolutely delicious, and the drinks were just as good. The portions are quite generous, so if you're not a big eater, you may want to consider sharing a dish. One thing to note is that the restrooms are gender-neutral. While they were very clean, I found this a little inconvenient when visiting with children. If you plan to go on a weekend, expect the restaurant to be lively and a bit noisy. Also, avoid the parking lot next door if possible--it was very chaotic and not worth the hassle. Overall, we had a wonderful dining experience with excellent food, great drinks, and friendly service. We arrived at 7:45 on a Saturday night to see if there was room for two or at least room at the bar. I wish the hostess had told us that we could wait at the bar for a table to open up, as we saw that's what many other patrons did, but she told us there was bar seating and high tops and so my husband and I went on up. We easily had our choice of two seats at the bar or a high top, and we selected a high top. After 5 minutes of no one acknowledging us, my husband and I told each other we would wait two more minutes before we would bail. Right as we were about to jump ship, a server came by and asked if we wanted menus. We said sure but it was just strange that no one greeted us, it was just "you want menus?" Lol. Another server brought us menus and asked if we would like water and a breadbasket. We said yes and after about 15 minutes, bread arrived. We chatted with the server about what drinks we should order; I ordered a French 75 and my husband ordered a special Sazerac. We also ordered the tuna carpoacio. After about 10 minutes, the server came back and to confirm if I wanted the soft side cocktail and if my husband wanted an old fashioned. We said we did not and corrected him. Then, a server tried to give our drinks to the table next to us and our server corrected him and brought steak tartare. And then he goes "oh wait, did you order this?" We said no and he asked if we wanted it because if not he had to throw it away lol. And then 5 seconds later, the tuna came. Both the tuna carpaccio and the steak tartare were delicious. But this was the entire evening: we ordered something, something else came. I ordered a glass of sparkling rose, and an espresso martini appeared on the house. We had to ask for our bill twice and when we got our bill, it was definitely someone else's. Finally, as we were preparing to go, the original server comes back and goes "here's your espresso martini." Like bro we asked you originally for the check and we are clearly leaving. Luckily, my husband and I had plenty of time before our show, it was a great atmosphere, and the food was super delicious. It was just such a comically bizarre experience and I feel like they are definitely losing money. I think we paid for half of what we ate and drank and probably ate and drank other people's food! Maybe we will go back? Maybe not lol

My cousin was running errands in the area, so we made a reservation for a weekday afternoon. It was very easy to reserve online the day before. We were seated upstairs to the right in a very sunny room with skylights, wooden rafters, and a thin carpet. Unfortunately, the carpet isn't thick enough to muffle sound, so it was very noisy. Our server, Nadir, seemed distracted, using his phone in a corner of the dining room, and wasn't too attentive. Another female server helped him manage his tables and took my drink order. My cousin ordered the veggie quiche and I opted for the French dip. Nadir asked if I wanted cheese and I assumed it came with cheese, so I said sure. When he then listed four different cheeses, I chose Swiss. When it arrived, it was clearly not Swiss. When I pointed it out to Nadir, who was nowhere to be found until we were ready for our bill, he said, "At least it is all natural cheddar!" Hmm... Then I saw that it was $4 for cheese. Our lunch total was $60 (no alcohol). My cousin said she will not be returning due to the low quality of food and service. I'll likely give it another try, but my expectations will be much lower next time, and I'll probably just order takeout instead.
