We stopped in here while out for a Sunday drive and has a good visit. It was easy to order and the service was fast and helpful. I had the whole belly clams and my wife had the fish and chips and both came out nice and hot. We ate on the outside upper deck and it was a warm day and we could watch the boats coming in and out. They have a fairly large lot (shared with the marina I think) and while it was pretty full there were people coming and going so not too hard to find a spot. read more

Got referred by a local. The only reason it gets a 2 is because the atmosphere was perfect. I ordered shrimp tacos, my wife got the blt grilled cheese, we got fried pickles and street corn. Not 1 bit of it was warmer than room temp/cold. Was quite shocked since all I did was grab it and walk to the seat. Cold corn on the cob sucks!! Came here on a Saturday around lunchtime and was able to get a seat no problem with a beautiful water view. Prices here are pretty average for the area, and we were able to order and get our food within 10 minutes. The lobster on the lobster roll itself was delicious and super fresh, but it was a little bit odd to get it on a hamburger bun! The fried whole belly clams were a good size portion, but some of them didn't taste super fresh, maybe old oil used for frying? Haven't been here in a very long time and it was just as good as the last time I was there. Had the New England clam chowder with lots of clams and delicious flavor. The clam strip dinner contained a huge plate of clam strips and french fries. The coleslaw was very good. The clam strips are some of the best we've had. You can bring your own alcoholic beverages. Being local residents, we have gone to Costello's for many years. This years first visit was the straw that broke the camels back. First of all it was mid afternoon on a weekday so it was not terribly busy yet the cleanliness was terrible, both upper deck and lower eating area were dirty, in disarray (tables and chairs all over the place), and the tables were filthy and unwiped. My wife ordered the clam strip roll and it was evident by sight and taste that these were frozen not fresh. I ordered the cheeseburger because the menu said it came with lettuce, tomato and bacon. It arrived just cheese, raw and greasy as hell. The clam fritters should be renamed to just fritters as the was not a clam in sight on any of the 6. Perhaps they put some chowder juice in them.....who knows? I don't know whether they have changed owners or they are just relying on reputation as they are terrible compared to what they used to be. We will be going to Captain Scott's from now on. No more chances for Costello's clam shack. read more

Apparently we were very lucky to come here on Sunday that had already been rained on during the day, as my friends told me that it's usually super packed, and we had no problems parking, and our food came relatively quick. I ordered the ahi tuna tacos whci came with fries, so refreshing & delicious, and the calamari was fried to perfection & equally delicious. This place let's you BYOB..I'm sorry what! Mind blown, because I'm from NY & that's unheard of, so the wine I purchased earlier was what I brought with me & my friends have a little cooler with their beers! Wow! 3,stars for the food and 4 for atmosphere The food was just ok. Cooked up by teens. Calamari had a thick batter, was overcooked and no dipping sauce which made it dry. The crab cakes were good, full of crab and very little extra filler. Onion strings were just ok. My friend enjoyed the lobster roll, it looked small in a hamburger bun but seemed to be the right amount of lobster. The bun didn't hold up to the sandwich. The atmosphere is fantastic. The fish sandwich and the belly clam rolls are consistently delicious! If you prefer grilled seafood, definitely get the salad that comes with grilled shrimp and scallops... ask for them on the side! My only disappointment here is the clam fritters. For starters, it was almost impossible to find any clam but in them. And, it seemed that the batter had been sitting too long.. they were dense and rubbery. Not good, and that's where the 5th star went. My daughter and I were traveling and craving seafood. Decided to try this place out. We placed our order and went to find a place to sit. It was a very breezy and cool day but we decided to sit up top anyway! What a beautiful view! It was probably about 10 minutes at most before they called our number and we picked up our food. We both had ordered the clam strips and they were really yummy! If I had to complain about anything it would be how fast I had to eat after choosing to sit in the shaded upper level with the wind whipping through and cooling off the food. This place is a great seafood shack!! 1 - you can't beat the view, right on the marina you get a fresh ocean breeze. There is plenty of seating in the shade or the sun, chairs or picnic tables. 2 - The food, delicious!! The tacos had an amazing mango salsa that just freshened up the plate, the scallops were beautifully fried - not over cooked. But the onion rings were the surprise. Freshly breaded they were delightful, much better than the fries (which were very basic) 3 - the staff was speedy, efficient, helpful, and overall very friendly. 4 - priced extremely well for local seafood. My husband and I were in Mystic for a day in August. We have friends who grew up in Connecticut who told us a traditional dish is fried whole belly clams. This place offered the dish and a beautiful outdoor area to eat. You order at a window and they give you a buzzer. The buzzer lets you know when you should go pick up your food. Worst experience ever. Waited more than one hour for 1 fish sandwich, 1 clam bellies and 1 lobster roll. Rude person at the counter who didn't even call out our order. We sat upstairs and I kept going down to check on our food. My favorite dish by far was probably the steamers. Quality and quantity was very good for the price. We got the fish tacos too, which was ok, but wouldn't go out of my way to get again. Seating is first come first served. Orders took a while to come out. Bathrooms are available on the premise but they only have two one toilet bathrooms. We were excited to try this place. We were looking for something nice with a view and good food. Well......we got the nice view and that's about it. We ordered Steamers, the CCC which consisted of fried shrimp and a small piece of fish, corn chowder with shrimp and lobster bisque. My fish and shrimp was pretty good but was just barely warm. The Steamers were very dry and seemed like they were steamed in the morning and then again in the afternoon. Both soups were pretty tasty but were colder then the outside temperature. We came here from Abott's Lobster in the Rough because we got scared by the line there, but I think it would have been quicker to sit through their line than to wait for our food to get to us at Costello's. They had ~5 people working front of kitchen but only one cook making food in the back. It took us over an hour to get our food! I and my girlfriend ate at Abbott's everything was delicious. I put my order in at Costello's at 6:30pm. I received my order at 8:30pm.. I have never in my life waited to eat food that I ordered from a damn window. If I knew I wouldve been waiting that long, I would've never went there. The customer service of each employee I came across was great but that doesn't excuse their God awful service. there were several people coming into waiting area asking about there food. It was so bad that one male customer stated it's been 45 minutes his wife was in line and we have been waiting another 30 min,...SMDH!! This man was after me and when you order your food I stated to her my order was to go. So I didn't have a # she took my name. There order system sucks, there is no organization. I'm sure my facial expression said a lot. At this point I couldn't take it anymore, I was like what's going on here I've been waiting for fried food almost 2 hours. I stated to everyone that I will be requesting an refund. Because the female and her family requested a refund as she hadnt received all her food. What a beautiful day it was on Sunday. Excited to go to Costellos in Noank was on the top of our list. Costellos has been our long summer favorite. - good food and great views of the water - like being on vacation. This Sunday, may be our last unless I believe the answer to the question "How long is the wait for food?" It's a busy place and you need to know in case you have an appointment somewhere. I was told twenty minutes. Sixty minutes later I was at the window asking about our food. Another 20 to 25 minutes because of big orders. Frustrated? Yes. Two tired hungry kids and four (grumpy) adults are not easy to distract. Maybe they could have said something when we put in our order - "it may by an hour's wait due to big orders." I may not have stayed but they wouldn't have lost four customers going forward. read more

We had Noank chowder, a lobster roll, and a seafood plate of a few whole belly clams, scallops and an over fried piece of batter dipt white fish... nothing that we would ever order a second time..... the chowder was like hot clam water! My husband digs fresh clams and we make delicious chowder with them...I would have expected Costello's chowder to be tasty, too! Fish platter was skimpy at best! I'm originally from CT and have lived all over the world since I joined the USAF and served worldwide and settled in Colorado after my retirement from serving 23 years. So I can't get fried clams. And I miss them. My order there was ordinary and included ground shells in the batter. I'm over 65, and have NEVER had shells in my fried clams. This was our second visit at Costello's. Our first visit about a month ago was great and made our decision to return an easy one. Oh what a mistake. We ordered two whole belly clam dinners. After about 15 minutes our pager went off and I went up to pick up our meals. One was hot and one was not. I returned it and was told they would cook a new one for me. 15 minutes later a new order arrived at the window. A month ago all we got were fresh sweet whole belly clams and lots of them. Today in each order if there were six whole belly clams that's giving them something. On top of that there was a burned taste like they were cooked in old oil. Never again read more

My visit to Costello's Clam Shack was stellar! My journey here branched from a desire for delicious fries, coconut fried shrimp, and oysters. They informed me they had been out of oysters. So much to my demise, I had to go without any oysters. In terms of serving size, I cannot say I was left hungry. But wanting more is a different story. The friend coconut shrimp were not simply golden brown and had a savory crisp to them, but the drizzle of that sweet sauce (I forgot the name) couldn't have been more heavenly. I wish I would've known what it was because I would have asked for a side or two for dipping. I have zero negative notes to report on my food. The size served was excellent. The taste of the food passed the taste buds test, and the location was miraculous. The reason I am not giving Costello's a perfect rating is that the tables and chairs were uncomfortable. The wait was over 25 minutes, they did not offer me a menu when I approached the cashier, and seating was minimal. My friend and I had our legs sticking to the plastic. We also had an unfortunate situation where a table we liked- and had been approaching- was snagged by another party--a sad consequence due to the free-for-all atmosphere and charm of Costello's Clam Shack. At Costello's, they offer outdoor seating with a view. The stunning ocean is home to a fabulous Ship Yard and Marina. You may dine at the lower level or take a walk upstairs, enjoying your food overlooking the sea--overall a great restaurant with lots of charm. This is a must go to for the best summer seafood. It is tucked away in the quaint village of Noank. Seating is outdoors in front of the dock with a beautiful view. BYOB is also permitted so bring your cooler if you wish! Today, we ordered the OMG lobster roll which was topped with double the amount of the regular lobster roll. Butter on the side which assures you do not have a soggy bun. The bun is perfectly toasted and warm. It was everything we wanted. This came with a bag of chips and a small side of cole slaw. We also sampled some fresh oyster which was served with cocktail sauce. The mussels were cooked with garlic and were within normal limits for taste. This is a summer shack not a gourmet restaurant. It's good, casual, clean & efficiently run and organized. The people are friendly and helpful. There are non seafood options and a children's menu. The wait was minimal. It is past other seafood restaurants in the village. This is more of a local secret and actually a sister restaurant to Abbott's which is across the way. read more
